Building knowledge translation capacity across projects
Moving from research to impact
IDRC’s ambition, in addition to funding major research, was to develop a knowledge translation mentorship program for researchers around the globe.
Knowledge translation, the process of communicating research results in a way which can lead to positive impacts (e.g., policy change), is an important component to ensure that research does not remain on the shelf.
With a goal of sharing best practices, information, methodologies and contacts, IDRC sought to build bridges, foster collaboration between stakeholders and to build capacity to encourage positive impacts on both civil society and policy. Activities included the development of the research strategy, theoretical and practical guidance on developing policy briefs, and simulations to practice engaging with policymakers and presenting information in a way that encourages a clear understanding of the role and benefits of taxation on tobacco.
