ANATARA VILLA PADIERNA PALACE RESORT

Alferini Golf Course Review

VillaPadierna Golf Resort Review of Alferini course, venue for this year's LET Andalucían Costa del Sol Open de España.

We spoke with Ken Lingwood, membership director at Los Naranjos GC, venue of last year's LET Andalucían Costa del Sol Open de España.

'I have comprehensive experience of this course under professional competition conditions, having set up and run 7 three day tournaments over two years for young professional and elite amateurs in mixed events. I also have first-hand experience of how last years (2021) Ladies Tour finale was set up.

The Alferini golf course at The Anatara Villa Padierna Palace Resort is set out on a sensational piece of land, it is completely devoid of any surrounding villas or urbanisations. The players will be completely at one with the incredible nature and natural landscape.

That is where the comforting nature ends, for this is a wonderful yet tough track. Depending upon the set up it can be very long, It is also known for it's vast and

undulating greens.

On first viewing and playing it can look very tight, but herein lies the beauty of the design landing areas are deceptively generous and good play in rewarded. From a competition stand point, holes 1,2 and 3 set the tone and holes 16, 17 and 18 are where a good score can be undone in an instant.'

Played from approximately 300 meters, this is not long, but the tee shot will look very narrow. A long iron or rescue club will no doubt be the preferred club choice as the is danger left and right, to the right there is a penalty area the full length of the fairway, although there is bail out space to the left. A good tee shot will leave a relatively short iron over a ravine to a well protected very large green. If early nerves play their part this becomes a tough opener.

This is a long uphill dog leg left. It will be played from approximately 350 metres. The fairway is divided by a wide ravine around 200 metres from the tee. It will be foolhardy if not impossible to carry the ravine with the tee

4 LADIESGOLFLifestyle FEATURE

shot, therefore a 3/5 wood from the tee is required leaving a significantly uphill second shot of around 150 metres.

The elevation is worth two clubs to the high 3 tiered green.

Be happy with a par as a par will gain on the field.

This is a beautiful yet long downhill hole of around 160 metres, across yet another ravine. It is another intimidating tee shot with a long iron to an enormous green with 3 distinct tiers. Hitting the green is the easy part, it´s the two putting of the green that will be the real challenge. Again, be very happy with par.

If a player can start their round and be level par after 3 holes then with their confidence up, the middle half of the course can be where a good score is made.

LADIESGOLFLifestyle 5

Having negotiated your way around this great course the last three holes can make or break a score. Making birdie on these last three holes can see someone race through the field, they are the very essence of “risk and reward”.

This will be a long par 5 at around 460 metres and no doubt will take a regulation three shots to the green for 90% of the field. The view from this tee will send chills down your spine. The fairway appears to be just a handful of meters in width between the hideous ravine and vegetation on the left and the rising valley wall on the right both marked as water hazards. Missing on the left requires you to drop your ball back at the very beginning of the fairway! The view from this tee will send chills down your spine. The fairway appears to be just a handful of meters in width between the hideous ravine and vegetation on the left and the rising valley wall on the right both marked as water hazards. Missing on the left requires you to drop your ball back at the very beginning of the fairway!

The ravine on the left has a ledge half way down from where you could theoretically play your ball should you have the misfortune to be there, beyond the ledge are the canopies of trees that rise up from the ravine bottom deep in the valley. This hole is outstandingly beautiful.

The line to hit is on the bunker set into the right side of the fairway. In reality there is sufficient room not to have to worry. It does not look so from the tee box!

The fairway narrows marginally at 70m from the green where a bunker on the left sits waiting to eat errant second shots. The green is huge making an inviting target for those with the fire power to reach in two. A bunker on the front right will catch many of those attempts, further bunkers on the rear left look as though they are intended to catch shots that run through .

Five meters of apron surrounds the green beyond that a water hazard on the right. This is a deliciously demanding par 5 that requires courage and controlled aggression to force a birdie.

Played from around 160 metres. Another large and undulating green is well guarded by a cavernous bunker to the front right. Anything long and the ball is gone forever down to the valley floor. It really is an excellent hole, the green feels like three small greens on different levels joined together, keep on the correct level and the putt is achievable.

A sensational tee box set on top of an escarpment, the fairway is some 40/50 meters below and a 180 meter carry over a ravine. From the tee the fairway seems an impossibly thin target, but like many of these courses´ clever design, there is plenty of room when you get there. But with the tournament on the line this will make for a nerve racking final drive. A driver or 3 wood will still leave a significant second shot, but again, hit the fairway and a birdie beckons.

VILLA PADIERNA, venue of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2022

TheAlferini Golf course, in Benahavís, hosts a Ladies European Tour tournament for the first time between November 24 and 27

Alferini Golf , located in the municipality of Benahavis, will open its doors at the end of November to the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open in Spain, proof that it will close the season on the Ladies European Tour and that will crown for the third consecutive year not only the tournament champion but also to the winner of the Race To Costa del Sol, the order of merit of the European circuit.

This tournament, erected as the finishing touch of the women's season in Europe, has a vertigo list of winners since it became the closing of the RACE to Costa del Sol. In the 2020 season, the Danish Emily Kristine Pedersen achieved the double-tournament and RACE to Costa del Sol-, to put the rubric to a spectacular year. Last season the tournament was awarded to Carlota Ciganda, thus achieving the only tournament she had yet to win in our country, and the order of merit went to the Thai Atthaya Thitikul.

José Antonio Mena, mayor of Benahavis, the host municipality of the tournament, has assured “that the best players of the year on the European circuit come to play in Benahavís, it is a great decision. We, through the municipal golf school, encourage many girls to start in this wonderful sport and, without a doubt, this event will motivate them to continue practicing it. We are going to have the opportunity to make use of our great complementary offer, based on the weather, but also on our hotels, our organizational capacity, our gastronomy, our leisure and our culture. And I have to say that we are going to do it with all the generosity that a tournament like this deserves”, he concluded.

The Andalusia Costa del Sol Open in Spain, again sponsored by the Ministry of Tourism, Regeneration, Justice and Local Administration of the Junta de Andalucía, Costa del Sol Tourism and Planning and Acosol, will be held in one of the Costa del Sol jewels of Villa Padierna and signed by Cristóbal Guerrero. The Alferini Golf course is an example of the spectacular level that Andalusian courses offer, and the outcome of the Race to Costa del Sol 2022 will be decided on its well-cared greens and fairways. tournament as well as a bonus of €250,000 for the top three classifieds in the annual ranking.

“It fills us with pride and satisfaction to once again host a Ladies European Tour tournament at our facilities. In addition, now it is also added that we will see the champion of the Race To Costa del Sol crowned at Alferini Golf. This is a magnificent course that will be a great challenge for all the players, it is a challenge both for its length and for its design. I'm sure we're going to see a great show hosting the best players of the season.

Its integration into the Costa del Sol landscape with no buildings around it makes it a unique route in the area” explains Ricardo Arranz de Miguel, owner of Villa Padierna.

One more year, the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open in Spain will act as a magnet for players and fans thanks to its position as the last round of the Ladies European Tour calendar, its generous prize pool that attracts the best players of the moment, and the undoubted attraction of Benahavis and its surroundings, a perfect example of how much Andalusia and the Costa del Sol have to offer. The Villa Padierna complex will host the tournament for the second time after the edition played on the Flamingos course in 2010, when the English Laura Davies emerged victorious.

The news of the Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España can be followed on the openfemenino.com website, the @Openfemenino Twitter account, the @ spanishopen Instagram account and the @openfemenino Facebook page .

The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España 2022 is held at Alferini Golf from November 24 to 27 and is part of the Solheim Cup 2023 program, an event declared an Event of Exceptional Public Interest (AEIP) and which provides significant tax advantages to participating companies. The Andalucía Costa del Sol Open de España, the last event on the Ladies European Tour calendar, is sponsored by Andalucía, Costa del Sol and Acosol as main sponsors, together with the Marbella City Council, the Benahavís City Council and Reale Seguros. QUINTESSENTIAL BRITISH BRAND, MEG & BEE,

Chosen for Wives & Girlfriends of European Ryder Cup Team

London, UK, September

2021: ‘The Classic Kit Bag’; a leather bag designed by quintessential British brand, Meg & Bee, was worn by the wives and girlfriends of the European Ryder Cup Team whilst supporting their partners out on the course during

last week’s matches at Whistling Straits, Wisconsin, USA.

Founders of the London-based company, Meg Tudball and Bee Paul, could not have been more honoured or more excited to provide one of their eye-catching crossbody designs for the captain’s, vice-captains’

and players’ partners in attendance at the 43rd staging of the Ryder Cup that was won in such convincing style, 19 points to 9, by an indomitable American team.

“For a young, fledgling company like Meg & Bee to be asked to be a part of one of the world’s greatest sporting events is totally overwhelming and to be chosen over hundreds of other established fashion brands is simply an amazing compliment for our bags,” commented Bee, who alongside great friend Meg established the brand just three years ago.

When the brand was chosen by European Team Captain Pádraig Harrington’s wife, Caroline, as the oncourse bag for the week, Meg & Bee put together a selection of combinations (ie a bag, strap, tassel and charm) to reflect the European Team colours. The bag chosen was a navy leather camera style crossbody (The Navy Classic Leather Kit), a dark blue strap embossed with gold stars (The Navy Gold Circus Strap) and a contrasting Suede Navy Tassel. It proved extremely popular with the wives and girlfriends, most of whom were seen wearing them out on the course whilst following the golfing action.

The eponymous brand only launched in 2018 but already its striking bags, straps, tassels and charms are loved and worn by many women all over the world including a range of high profile personalities here in the UK such as Gaby Roslin, Davina McCall, Lisa Faulkner and Dame Kelly Holmes.

Meg & Bee boasts a variety of different-sized crossbody bags named Major Kit, Classic Kit, Mini Kit & Limited Kit as well as their New Mobile Kit, all of which can be customised with various straps, tassels and charms. Each design bears the brand’s unique signature gold star disc charm, the hallmark of a Meg & Bee bag. All individually designed by Bee and Meg, from handpicking the leathers and choosing threads and inks, the affordable, high quality leather bags and wallets are made in a small workshop in Spain. Available in a plethora of brightly coloured and soft pastel leathers and suedes, means there is something to suit everyone’s individual style.

Q&A

Q. What was the inspiration behind the partnership with the W & G & will more partnerships be developed for future golf tournaments?

Earlier this year received an email from the European Tour asking us if the wives and girlfriends of the Ryder Cup could wear our bags throughout the tournament week. It was such an honour as well as a very exciting moment for us to be involved in such a prestigious event - certainly one of the world's greatest sporting events with a worldwide audience. We’re thrilled to have made a few new 'insta friendships' as a result with some of the lovely wives and girlfriends and greatly enjoyed watching the tournament. Naturally we'd love to be involved in more golf tournaments; of course it would be fantastic to be involved in some of the professional ladies events,

perhaps even the Solheim Cup which is another thrilling golf event.

Q. Tell us about the bags that you provided for the Ryder Cup

Once contacted by the European Tour about the opportunity, we put together a selection of combinations (ie a bag, strap, tassel and charm) to reflect the European Team colours. The bag chosen was a navy leather camera style crossbody (The Navy Classic Leather Kit), a dark blue strap embossed with gold stars (The Navy Gold Circus Strap) and a contrasting Suede Navy Tassel. The final choice of bag that was worn at Whistling Straits was made by Caroline Harrington, the European Team Captain’s wife, and it proved extremely popular with the wives and girlfriends, most of whom were seen wearing them out on the course whilst following the golfing action. We feel our Meg & Bee bags are the perfect hands-free bag for wandering around the golf course!!

Q. I can see a very positive response from the partnership and opportunities at future Ladies European Tour & Solheim Cup events. Are there any plans to develop relationships with other team sports?

Not at the moment but as a new brand we are loving our adventure and are always excited about future opportunities. Of course if the chance arose to be involved in another sporting event, we'd jump at it.

Q. Are there any plans to expand the collections to any other products?

We are always brimming with ideas so yes, the collection will expand; please watch this space!!

Q. The pop up & fairs are a great way to meet prospective new clients, if an opportunity came up to host one in Spain would you be interested?

Perhaps further down the line this is something that we would consider, especially as our workshop is in Spain so it’s a favourite destination of both of ours. At the moment we are just a little too busy building the brand and working on all the different aspects of the business.

PGA CATALUNYA Launches New Wellness Centre

PGA Catalunya will opened a new €5 million Wellness Centre on the 16th April 2021, offering residents, guests and golfers an array of physical and emotional wellbeing experiences.

The Wellness Centre is a holistic haven embracing movement, recovery and relaxation, offering both traditional and cutting-edge therapies and expertise.

The new centre’s philosophy reflects that of PGA Catalunya, Spain’s number one golf resort: to

provide a space where people can disconnect from the world and reconnect with themselves, relax in nature and spend precious time with family and friends.

David Plana, CEO of PGA Catalunya, said: “After the experience of the past year, the world has gained a deeper of the importance of wellbeing. For us, it’s something that has long been at the heart of the experiences we offer and why our promise to customers is to play well, stay well.

FEATURE

“The opening of the Wellness Centre – surrounded by the pine forests, lakes and mountains of the countryside outside Barcelona – is another significant step towards our objective of being one of the leading golf and wellness destinations in the world, and we look forward to welcoming residents, members and guests.”

Located next to the 5-star Hotel Camiral at the heart of the resort, the Wellness Centre is designed to invite the natural surroundings in, creating a haven away from the stresses of everyday life.

Its design – crafted by the renowned Lagula Arquitectes – takes inspiration from the Japanese principles of unaltered natural beauty, quiet solitude and simplicity, blending seamlessly with the landscape and surrounding gardens.

Guests will re-establish links with nature as they discover the different parts of the 1,000m² space, comprising nine treatment rooms, gym and yoga studios and thermal and water facilities set among areas that reflect gardens, forest clearings and waterfalls.

Healing techniques are personalised for guests’ needs and accelerated by high-tech therapy normally only found at clinics or elite athlete facilities, including cryotherapy, vitamin infusions, hyperbaric oxygen and photomodulation. PGA Catalunya is working in collaboration with some of the most respected experts to provide these services. Partners

include world leading MECOTEC for the Cryo Therapy treatments (PGA Catalunya is the first destination in Spain to have the MECOTEC double chamber cabin) and NADclinic London under the expertise of Dr Saskia Kloppenburg for IV infusions programs.

The Wellness Centre complements PGA Catalunya’s other amenities which support and promote physical and emotional wellbeing.

A European Tour Destination, its two worldclass courses, the challenging Stadium with its exhilarating elevated tee shots and the shorter, friendlier Tour, are carefully designed to offer benefits beyond the euphoria of a well-struck shot. Both courses are also GEO Certified – golf’s international ecolabel – and benefit from the expertise of a full-time biologist.

The Golf Hub combines best-in-class performance golf technology and coaching with the fun-for-all enjoyment of a Toptracer gaming range. It is home to the Sergio Garcia Junior Golf Academy.

Wellness is also integrated into the resort’s real estate, which will soon include the recentlypresented Well-Villa, an innovative property specifically designed to enrich the wellbeing of its occupants.

ABOUT PGA CATALUNYA GOLF AND WELLNESS

Opened in 1999, PGA Catalunya Golf and Wellness quickly established an international reputation for outstanding quality. It is ranked the number one resort in Spain by Golf World magazine, which also recognises the Stadium Course in its World Top 100 Courses.

The 36-hole resort also offers two accommodation options – Hotel Camiral, a member of The Leading Hotels of The World and Girona's only 5* hotel, and LAVIDA Hotel, aimed at the active traveller. In addition, the European Tour Destination comprises a discreet, low-density real estate development, with first-class leisure facilities and a select number of villa plots, stylish modern semi-detached villas, and luxury apartments.

Conveniently situated close to Girona-Costa Brava Airport (five-minute drive) and Barcelona International Airport (one-hour drive), the venue also benefits from the recently completed highspeed train line that links Girona (approximately 15 kilometres from PGA Catalunya Resort) to the rest of Spain and Europe, which provides even faster connections to major cities, including Barcelona, which can now be reached in only 37 minutes.

PENHA LONGA Becomes the First Portuguese Resort to Join the Women in Golf Charter

Q&A

Q. Tell us about your professional golf career prejoining Penha Longa Resort, including your best professional tournament/lowest score.

I started playing golf at 4 years old. I was introduced to the game by my parents, who also played at the time and still do today. It wasn’t until I went to college that golf became a more serious thought, as I started competing at a junior level and represented the Portuguese national team. This just confirmed my ambition of wanting to turn professional.

I turned professional in 2015 and competed on the LET Access Series Tour and Santander Golf Tour. A few years later, I gained my card to play on the Ladies European Tour, this was truly a dream come true!

During my time playing professionally, I became a

three-time national champion and finished in the top three on two separate occasions on the Santander Golf Tour. My best tournament round was 64. In 2021, I decided to end my playing career and focus on becoming a teaching pro to help grow the game of golf within Portugal.

Q. I had read that you were keen to represent Portugal in the Olympics, is this still something you would like to do?

It's not something I’m looking to do any time soon, mainly because I don't compete on a full-time basis like I used to, and it would require dedicating my time to practicing and training, which would mean I would have to give up some teaching time.

However, it is something I would take great honor in doing if I was asked and in the future who knows? Especially with the recent inclusion of golf back into the Olympics.

Never say never!

Q. Having lived in Lisbon for 10 years, have you seen an increase in Portuguese females taking up the sport, whether it’s professionally or leisurely?

Unfortunately, golf has never been a sport played by lots of females and this can be seen within the professional side of the game as well. There are very few Portuguese professionals competing, male or female.

However, one thing that has grown in the area is tourism and that’s brought some global golfers to our wonderful country, including females who have

obviously wanted to experience the amazing golf courses we have on offer.

Q. Women’s golf is seeing fantastic growth in prize funds from the launch of the Aramco Team Series, can you see more filtering through to the LET Access Series Tour to see more events for upcoming professionals?

The partnership between the LET and the LPGA, as well as the creation of the Aramco Team Series (ATS), has brought opportunities and advantages to women's golf. This will only continue with more tournaments, higher purses and more opportunities for professionals to compete.

We’re already seeing golfers who compete on the LET Access Series Tour play in ATS events. It’s a great learning experience playing on a global stage and competing in front of larger crowds is something that will allow them to adapt to life on tour. Of course, the players aren’t the only ones to benefit from the series; the Access Tour will be able to offer more opportunities and more tournaments to a larger number of players who are looking to play on the Ladies European Tour.

Q. Penha Longa Resort has a fantastic course set up, what is the vision for ladies’ golf at the resort?

The Resort recently signed up to the Women in Golf Charter, which is an initiative founded by The R&A and following this we have undertaken a number of different activities across Penha Longa to help promote the women’s game.

20 LADIESGOLFLifestyle FEATURE

Our Ladies’ Golf Academy is one of our most recent of these, which has been well received by everyone involved. It’s a weekly group lesson, ran on Saturdays where any female, member or non-member can come to the resort and experience an introduction to golf. It’s open to female golfers of any level and is a great experience for those who have the ambition to improve and develop their games. I run the clinic myself and it’s great to be able to pass on my knowledge to these women.

Q. Is there a vision to host more Ladies Pro Tournaments at the resort?

Yes! The Atlantic Championship course has hosted the Portuguese Open on several occasions but we’re looking to host future events at the resort. We’re currently in talks to host a ladies’ golf tournament focusing on the next up and coming Portuguese players. Hopefully we can announce that this will be taking place here, very soon.

With over 27 holes across the resort, hosting tournaments is a great opportunity to showcase the tough test of golf and the sights of the wonderful Cascais region.

Q. Our own golf course has seen a great development on our women's membership, and many

are already organising trips abroad. What are the opportunities for ladies’ golf breaks at Penha Longa Resort?

We offer various packages that can be taken advantage of by visiting guests and our most recent package is specifically tailored to females visiting the resort.

The ‘Mind, Body and Golf’ Package is our most recent introduction which offers a full day at the resort. From €195 per person, it gives guests the opportunity to experience 9-holes of golf on the Monastery course, followed by lunch in one our restaurants and access to the Penha Longa Spa, accompanied with treatments. The package offers an escape through the golf courses and wellness facilities - areas that have probably seen the most female involvement at the resort.

Q. Are there any offers on women's golf coaching available to entice groups of females to book?

As mentioned, we run our Ladies’ Golf Academy which has been well received. We may also look to offer a more personal teaching experience to our members. We’re hoping to offer one-to-one coaching sessions, but we want to ensure these are the most cost-effective packages for our members. Who knows, this could be something we offer out to guests of the resort too.

PENHA LONGA

Committed to growing the game of golf, Penha Longa Resort is looking to maximise the potential of opportunities for females -

Penha Longa Resort, 11 May 2022: Penha Longa Resort’s pledge to The R&A’s Women in Golf Charter shows its commitment to growing the game of golf, with a current female staff representation of 48%, the resort is best placed to help grow the game of golf and maximise the potential of women and girls in Portugal.

The resort aims to provide introductions to golf as well as offering resort wide initiatives to grow female representation. As part of the commitment and through supporting the objectives of the charter, Penha Longa Resort will become one of the 900+ signatories, which include National Federations, golf clubs, professional tours and organisations.

The Women in Golf Charter was established in 2018 to encourage more women and girls to both play and pursue a career in the game. Now, with its #FOREeveryone campaign, the R&A is calling upon industry organisations to create a more inclusive culture that safeguards golf for future generations.

Penha Longa Resort has committed to multiple projects as part of the Women in Golf Charter, most notably starting with the facilities at the resort and looking to build upon what they currently offer female members and guests. In addition, the resort hopes to

grow their 135-person female workforce in key areas such as the Operations department and Greenkeeping team.

Golf specific commitments will also be introduced to increase the number of female members to achieve a balanced image of all genders and ages, as well as a further investment into women and girls who are hoping to grow and compete within golf, with the aim of allowing them to play golf at a professional or international level.

Speaking about the Women in Golf Charter, Oliver Key, General Manager, Penha Longa Resort, said: “When the Women in Golf Charter was proposed to us, we knew that it was something that we had to be a part of and an area we want to grow at Penha Longa Resort. We have continually been looking at ways to grow our golf offering and our pledge to the charter cements this further, as we look to fulfil it through a number of events and projects we’re implementing in the coming months. From encouraging family wide representation through our annual events to enhancing our women’s golf collection in the pro-shop, we believe that what we are putting in place will help grow the game of golf in Portugal for girls and women.”

Interview with ANDY DIXON founder of Golfers CBD

Andy recently supported the Ladies Golf Lifestyle Magazine's 'Ladies Golf Evening' with sample Golfers CBD gummy bears, so we wanted to highlight the incredible results the product is helping with amateur & professional golfers. It is now used by many professionals including leading players on the Ladies European Tour.

Q&A

Q. Can you tell us about the creation of Golfers CBD?

My daughter was diagnosed with absent seizure epilepsy and wasn't getting on with NHS meds so I started researching CBD. It influences your endocannabinoid system which controls our responses and emotions , particularly mood, stress response and motor function - which sounded like the perfect supplement for a golfer. My daughter started on 1000mg broad spectrum oil and I started experimenting with it on the golf course.

I was very impressed with the effects on the course, I wasn't as irritated by poor shots and bad luck, I remained calm and focused which had a positive effect on my scoring.

A friend of a friend was running a successful CBD brand that was already established on the high street and they agreed to help us formulate a range of products specifically for golf and the business was established.

Q. Current range of products & any new ones in the pipeline.

Our current range includes gummies, jelly domes, soft gel capsules, slow-release capsules, an atomizer spray, 4 strengths of oil and a body salve. We are

So much of golf is between the ears and it doesn’t matter what level you are playing at. You could be feeling nervous in your monthly medal or you have a putt to break 90 for the first time. I think this can definitely help.

working on some new products for next season including a roll on, suncream and chewing gum. We're also producing tins of sweets (as well as bags) for Europe and the US where conditions can be very hot in the peak months of Summer.

Q. Which current tour professionals use the products and most popular product?

We have players on the Challenge Tour (Jigger Thompson, Ryan Evans, Jacques Blauuw), Ladies European Tour (Catriona Matthew, Gabs Cowley, Florentyna Parker and Whitney Hillier) DP World Tour (Jacques Kruyswicz) and European Legends Tour (Andy Oldcorn) using our products.

I love the brand and I use Golfers CBD every day now whether I'm playing or not. It's been a real game-changer on and off the course. I feel happy and relaxed which helps me stay patient and positive whatever happens out there. I'm playing the best golf of my life and competing to win tour events most weeks.

The slow-release capsules are very popular with tour players as they travel a lot, flying around the world and sleeping in different beds. CBD increases REM sleep which expedites recovery and enables smoother transition into different time zones. On the course most of our pros use high strength oil or the spray and top up with gummies.

Q. We talk about international pro shops stocking the range which countries are you currently supplying?

We have a European hub in Czech Republic. In 2022 we have placed initial stock into Czech, Germany, Italy, Ireland, Iceland and Austria.

26 LADIESGOLFLifestyle

Whitney Hillier

Q. What is the benefits of your brand against others in the market?

We use extract from a strain of plant called ACDC, we chose it for it's efficacy in treating anxiety. Most common problems amateur players face are anxietybased like first tee nerves, short putts and closing out good rounds. We also use broad spectrum extract, it's the most expensive version of CBD but it has other beneficial compounds like phytonutrients, flavonoids and terpenes which add to the overall impact on your mental and physical wellbeing.

We make our products in stronger concentrations than other brands on the market, because we developed the products by using them on the golf course we understand the dose required to have a

LADIESGOLFLifestyle 27
positive impact. Finally our range of products are designed to offer benefits before, during and after golf because CBD can help preparation, performance and recovery.

Ladies Golf Lifestyle Magazine HEALTH & WELLNESS Special Feature

Introducing Hansraj Ramlugun, a passionate practitioner of yoga and holistic health.

I started practising yoga in 2001 and studied and learned to teach yoga at an ashram in India. I have been teaching yoga in the UK ever since qualifying in 2007. Yoga has played a positive role in my life for many years now and it is a privilege to share my experiences, knowledge and passion with you. In this first article I will be sharing my thoughts on “what is yoga?”, to which there is not a straight forward explanation as there are so many aspects to this wonderful science and philosophy.

Yoga is an ancient spiritual discipline that originates from India and forms part of Hinduism. It is believed that yoga is over 5000 years old and

traces of it can be found in the ancient Hindu text called the Vedas. Most of us know yoga to be about stretching and creating unusual postures with the body, which can sometimes feel strange and uncomfortable, but this is just a small aspect of what yoga is really about. The physical discipline of yoga was actually designed to make the body strong enough so that the

32 LADIESGOLFLifestyle FEATURE

individual could meditate for prolonged periods of time, in order to achieve an enlightened state of mind. Traditionally before someone would learn yoga, they would first study Ayurveda, which is an ancient Indian form of holistic science. Ayurveda allows the individual to understand their body type, which provides insight into what kind of yoga practice best suits them. I will cover more about Ayurveda in the next article. Now back to yoga, and the beauty of this amazing science that can provide so many health benefits.

The word 'Yoga' is derived from the Sanskrit root 'Yuj', meaning 'to join' or 'to yoke' or 'to unite'. Actually, the word yoga should be pronounced without the 'a' at the end. As language has changed and evolved, we now commonly know it as 'yoga' instead of 'yog'.

There are different types of yoga, for example there are practices that focus on breath, called pranayama, and disciplines that concerntrate on mantra chanting, cleansing techniques and meditation. All of the different types have the same objectives which are to bring more balance to the individual and to create a heightened awareness within.

Here are some of the different paths of yoga:

Hatha yoga: a physical and mental discipline.

Raja yoga: an approach which concentrates on meditation and follows a path that guides you through the eight limbs of yoga.

Karma yoga: a selfless service, helping the individual to free itself from negativity.

LADIESGOLFLifestyle 33 FEATURE

Bhakti yoga: a practice formed by Devotion and a process to help channel emotions in a productive way, aiding the individual to attain an emotional and mental equilibrium.

Jnana yoga: an academic path focused on studying the ancient scriptures.

Tantra yoga: a ritualistic path, incorporating mantra chanting and mandalas.

The physical practice, which most people associate with yoga, is a wonderful approach to maintaining the body and looking after oneself. The practice consists of a series of movements and poses that stretch and strengthen the body. Yoga is not a competition and the practitioner should learn to work with their own body and understand its limits. It is very important to be patient with your body and not force yourself into postures. There are thousands of yoga positions, from Adho Mukha Svanasana, which is downward dog in Sanskrit, to Bhujangasana, cobra pose.

Yoga has proven to be immensely beneficial to a number of high performing professional athletes

over the years, with many stating on numerous occasions that yoga has helped to prolong their career. For us to understand this in more depth we need to look at the heath benefits of yoga and the positive impact it can have on the practitioner. These possible positive impacts are improved strength, balance and flexibility. The slow, controlled movements and deep breathing increase blood flow and warm up the muscles. Yoga helps to increase the body's overall flexibility, providing many benefits such as reducing muscle stiffness, increasing range of movement and lowering the risk of injury. The practice helps to relieve post-exercise pain, minimise muscular tension and reduce mental stress levels.

There are many yoga poses that engage the core, which can help female golfers increase their overall strength and improve their balance. These benefits are important in sports such as golf, which demands both leading up to and following through with a golf swing.

The golf swing plays a vital role in the female game. Through yoga you can build strength, create

34 LADIESGOLFLifestyle FEATURE

more flexibility in your shoulders and upper body to be able to have a more fluid and smooth golf swing.

Yoga is often perceived as a form of exercise but in fact it is not considered to be so by traditional practitioners. The physical practice of yoga should be done in a way that lowers your heart rate and actually, if practiced correctly, you should not break into a sweat. At the beginning of the practice, a warm up stage, such as a series of movements called surya namaskar/sun salutation, increases the heart rate and warms up the body. Following this stage, the rest of the routine should focus on lowering the heart rate.

Yoga is about longevity and maintaining the body in a holistic manner. Yoga should be done in a room that is neither too hot or too cold, ideally during sunrise and sunset or when the temperature is comfortable. If you were to compare an animal with a low heart rate, such an elephant which has a heart rate on average of 30 beats per minute and lives for around 40 to 70 years, to a cheetah whose

heartbeat is around 120 per minute and lives for an average of 12 years, you can see that when the heart is under less strain it lasts longer. Yoga, when practiced correctly, can help enhance the body's overall wellbeing in a way that allows the body to age in way that can help provide long term health. Yoga can now been seen to be taught and practiced all the over globe and has stood the test of time. The reason being an important and logical one; it is good for you.

In the next article I will talk about the connection between yoga and Ayurveda, and how one should practice yoga. Until then, I wish you all happiness and positivity.

The Aramco Team Series Sotogrande

tournament has joined forces with the Seve Ballesteros Foundation raising vital funds for the famous charity. The celebrity game, dubbed “The Match”, took place as part of the Pro Am ahead of the LET tournament kicking off at La Reserva Club, Sotogrande.

Spanish golf stars Adri Arnaus and multiple LET winner Carlotta Ciganda came together with celebrity Andalucian chef Dani Garcia and Carmen Ballesteros – daughter of the legendary Spanish champion and all-time golfing great.

“The Match” donated €500 for each player birdies with €2000 for any eagles – with a total raised of €21,000 for the foundation.

Carmen Ballesteros is a board member of Seve Ballesteros Foundation that was set up by her late father in 2009, with the commitment to contribute to the advancement of science for the benefit of those suffering from brain tumours. The Seve Ballesteros Foundation seeks to preserve Seve’s legacy and through the Golf in Hospitals program brings golf’s values to children who are hospitalized or at home. They learn to play always in safe environments and following Seve’s values such as humility, sacrifice and perseverance.

Carmen Ballesteros said: “I am delighted to participate in this Match. Thank you to everyone for

your support to our efforts in helping young players develop their skills and making kids stay in hospitals more bearable by introducing them into golf.”

Malaga-born Dani Garcia has recently taken up the sport, around a busy professional life, and relished an opportunity to support The Match.

“I love golf but only started playing two years ago because of all the travel I have to do - but can say now I’m addicted as it’s a great release from my professional life,” he said.

“It’s a great honour and very special for me to be able to support and play for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation today. I was watching Adri at The Open at St. Andrew’s a few weeks ago and now it’s incredible to be able to play with him Carlota and Carmen for such a great cause.”

Adri Arnaus added: “It’s an honour to be part of this match for the Seve Ballesteros Foundation. I have to say he’s one of my idols and to be part of this has been special. We just went out there and tried to make as many birdies as we could – even some eagles. I’m very happy we’ve been able to raise that amount of money for a great cause.

“It was an honour to be invited to join the Pro Am at Aramco Series at La Reserva for several reasons. The course was in great shape and the atmosphere at the event was extraordinary bearing in mind the difficulties to always find support for female golf from both sponsors and the crowd. I was also very lucky having the chance to play with a wonderful team and with two professionals who ended up top 5 in the tournament a few days later. There is no doubt Golf Saudi and the Federation of Saudi have an incredible vision for the future for the development of female golf that should be taken into consideration by other potential sponsors and governments. The organisation was made by

Performance 54 in a very professional way and all players, including myself, felt very lucky to attend such a wonderful event”

"The organisation of the Ladies European Tour Final Open de España at Los Naranjos Golf Club was a real success. The club had not hosted a tour event for 33 years and it was time to return to the tournament spirit for the pride of our members and staff. The organization of a big tournament like this involves plenty of commitment from different parties on top of the own club, such as local governments, volunteers, LET, security and sponsors. The moment we were officially announced as the host of such a prestigious event,

42 LADIESGOLFLifestyle
FEATURE
Carmen Ballesteros playing at the Aramco Team Series Sotogrande

we started setting up internal regular meetings to make sure everyone in the club team knew exactly what they had to do and what responsibilities they would need to assume since the beginning and also during the event. There was also some brainstorming in place about the best way to optimise our infrastructure bearing in mind we are not a club hosting events of this magnitude each year.

The Royal Spanish Federation was very helpful with resources to bring the course to better conditions even though it is not easy in November in Marbella. However, everyone at both Federation and our club was so committed to bring home the best final of the Ladies European Tour ever that they definitely made my work easier.

For a part private club as it is Los Naranjos Golf Club, the challenge relies on the return of the investment made and it is for that reason that hosting this event was used from the very

beginning as a marketing tool to attract golfers from all around Europe. Many golfers felt attracted by how our course was getting ready for the event. The success of the event was also used in our sales strategy a few months after the event and that was key to achieve the financial return while enjoying the benefits and prestige of such event. Hosting the Ladies Open of Spain is always an honour as a Spanish General Manager myself, but even more when it is also de Final of the Ladies European Tour and the Race to Costa del Sol.

Organising a Tour event is always a challenge to face, but a really rewarding and fulfilling experience that I do hope to have the opportunity to enjoy again in the future. Until that moment, we will keep our memories at Los Naranjos Golf Club from an extraordinary event won by the Spanish LPGA Tour player Carlota Ciganda, to whom we wish a further successful career."

WINGS & SWINGS

Hello Everyone, my name is Natalie TsybulskaLainchbury, I am originally from the beautiful city of Lviv in Ukraine, I currently live in Antalya, Turkey.

Together with my husband (who is English but living in Turkey) I work with the golf business “Golf Mad Travel & Events”. The Company specialises in the golf industry with Golf Events, Golf Travel, Pro golf coaching, Sports Camps and MICE organization.

I am an amateur golfer who still has so much to learn in golf despite the fact that my husband is a British PGA Advanced Golf Professional. So you can understand that golf pressure in our house could be sometimes enormous ☺ In one word, there was no way out of golf for me, although before moving in with my partner, I had absolutely no idea what golf was and moreover, that I could become hooked up on it.

For around of 6 years I have been heavily involved in Golf Mad Travel & Events organising Tournaments, carrying out the golf bookings as well as developing the image of the Company in both West and East Europe. To cut a long story short, golf was already becoming my lifestyle without even properly playing it. The Golf Mad journey was and still is incredibly exciting as new horizons are always opening in front of us with new projects and challenges, not to mention the variety of people I have and am meeting on the daily basis. These were the People, our Golfers and Friends who were pushing me into the world of golf saying this will be the completely different stage of my life with fantastic emotions. So it happened so. ☺

Since I Started playing golf, I noticed that it is not always so easy to find a choice of golf outfits for ladies, which will be stylish, feminine, sometimes flamboyant and sometimes strictly womanlike outlined which will be an important and unique showing of the personality. World famous brands are incredible and I love their golf clothes but this you can find everywhere. What about golf clothes showing your particular individuality and your own crazy golf spirit?

44 LADIESGOLFLifestyle FEATURE

So this idea was growing in my head for a long time. For my husband’s company we have already the vast experience of creating our own golf clothes both for men and women as part of our Golf Tournament Events – here however, we were mostly basing on the idea of good quality sporty golf clothes following the main golf trends of the leading sport clothes companies. I found that not being enough for me. In addition, here in Turkey, the country that is world famous for the fantastic quality of its textile, the world is your oyster!

So the decision was made – and I created my very own Company and Brand “Wings & Swings” as mainly ladies golf clothes line being extremely feminine but sporty, charming but goal oriented, flashy but classy. “Wings & Swings” main message is “Hey, I know I am here to play golf and I will do my best but I am damn attractive woman in it, so let’s have a round!”

The symbol of the Brand is a little bird with a golf club symbolizing that in the game of golf only the kingdoms of friendship, peace, and communication are ruling; there are no religion, nationality, politics, age or gender differences here. We are all here linked together – by golf.

So, at the moment I am in the process of my 1st collection creation, however, talking about it to my golfer lady clients and friends I have already found a great interest and open minds. I am using the fabrics from the best textile factories in Istanbul, which give your imagination the real opportunity to let it go and just flow. The idea here is creating the models showing the female character and spirit, which is firstly, how I see it. My main task is to give lady golfers the freedom of showing their uniqueness – thus, tailor-made clothes from “Wings & Swings” will be the source of woman’s growth in golf, beauty and individuality at the same time.

Ladies Golf Lifestyle Magazine is a great opportunity to present and advertise the projects for me and my other fellow lady golfers who want to be fantastic sportswomen but at the same time to make a difference and to make the game look even more irresistible.

I do believe the bright future is ahead of us Ladies, so let’s go for it
