SARAH NILSSON Caddying & LET Tour Ambitions INTERVIEW BY DAVID J NICHOLSON

L

adies Golf Lifestyle Magazine caught up with Sarah to talk about her special relationship with older sister Emma & her experiences as she progresses to the Ladies European Tour.

LADIESGOLFLifestyle

Caddying for siblings is becoming more common, with sisters including the Henderson sisters, Brooke & Brittany on the LPGA.

FEATURE

Q&A

We started by asking Sarah about caddying for Emma & how many events she has been on her bag? I absolutely love caddying for Emma! We both try to caddie for each other when we have the chance, when one of misses the cut we take on the caddie duties! I generally caddie for her a few times a year and her for me as well. What is your funniest memory caddying for Emma? The first time I caddied for her was in The Spanish Open for amateurs when I was 11 years old and Emma was 14. I remember thinking her bag were so heavy and the course was hilly, it was a challenge for me to say the least! We have laughed about that tournament a lot because the last few holes Emma had to give me pep talks to get through it when it should be the other way around. She finished in 3rd place so I got to keep my job anyway! Can you describe your experience caddying for Emma at the AIG Women's Open?

It was a fantastic experience for Emma & myself ! It was obviously a bit different this year because of Covid-19 but the LET & LPGA managed to make the absolute best of it and we had so much fun. It was a great learning experience for me, I tired to soak in as much as possible. The course was a real challenge with the wind and it really demanded great shots. My motivation is bigger than ever to play those events myself ! Royal Troon is a course you have played before what is your favourite hole & which other golf courses are your favourites? I played Royal Troon in 2016 and that was also a great experience. The course as a whole is incredible of course but if I had to choose, I would say hole 8, also known as the Postage Stamp. It

a tricky hole with a small green and some very defined bunkers that you want to avoid. I have played many great golf courses, but I always love coming back to the Evian Golf Resort. My home courses that I play every week are also fantastic, Sรถlvesborg GK & Kristianstad GK! You have achieved bronze at the European Team Championships what was your highlights from that event? Playing in the European Team championships when I was younger was always a highlight of the year! I remember having so much fun with the girls and the coaches, we had a great team spirit and managed to play some great golf together. Golf is usually played alone so it was fun to play as a team as well once a year!

FEATURE What are your plans for 2021? My plan for 2021 is to hopefully be able to play some LET & LetAccess events again. It is a special time right now and I think that we all are eager to get back to playing a lot of tournaments again. Both tours have done a great job with the tournaments this year and I hope we can play next year as well. I am working hard to try and get my full card back on LET next year so I am really excited for the 2021 season. Do you both have the same coach? We both work with Filip Oesten at Sรถlvesborg GK. He is a great coach and we have worked with him for a long time now! Coldplay is one of your favourite bands have you seen them live? No I have not! I am hoping to do that one day. I

have only been to one concert ever, One direction when I was really young! Teenage Sarah were really excited about that. Signing is one of your hobbies what other ways do you relax away from Golf? I only sing in the shower nowadays! I enjoy spending time with family and friends and we like to be active together. We play a lot of tennis and paddle tennis. Emma & I have just picked up a new hobby a few weeks ago, we started picking mushrooms! We have never done that before but we both love nature and food so it is a great combination. We are also trying something new this winter with social media, we are starting a blog and are going to make some YouTube videos! You can follow me on Instagram @sarahnilsson for more updates on that.

ELA CLARK, World Golf Awards Host

BY DAVID J NICHOLSON

E

la is a good friend of the magazine, having worked on our fashion show for the magazine's launch in 2012. Since then she has become the host of the prestigious World Golf Awards for the last 4 years. Currently playing off a handicap of 20, she practises on the Western Algarve courses where she grew up. Ela's journey to co hosting the World Golf Awards. - The World Golf Awards are basically your Oscars of the golf industry. I was born in Devon and brought up in the Algarve, attended 9 schools in 4 languages and 3 countries. I spoke 4 languages by the age of 12, was a keen sportswoman and returned to the UK to pursue a career as an actor age 18. I was awarded a 3 year scholarship to the Academy of Live & Recorded Arts, London, where any inhibitions on stage or in front of the screen were well and truly eradicated. It was a great environment for self discovery and character building.

8

LADIESGOLFLifestyle

I had always been a lover of sports and athletics. I was nominated Head girl and sportswoman of the year at my secondary school and offered a sports scholarship for my running ability and representing the school. (The Porsches International School of the Algarve – now known as Nobel). I went on to qualify as a personal trainer in order to share my love of sport / training as I thought it would also work well alongside acting auditions. I also took up learning to fly light aircraft, loved equestrian sports and had a beautiful horse for 7 years whom I rescued and competed with. In my mid 20s I got involved with radio and was then approached to host events. A television presenter had to drop out last minute for The World Travel Awards, (The Oscars of the travel industry) and I received a call less than 2 days before the event, asking if I could step in.. they liked my international and multi-lingual background and thought I would fit the gig well..

the hardest part was finding the dress in time! I had to bend the dress code a little, pulled it off by the skin of my teeth and couldn’t believe it when I was asked back the following year! I was later asked to host The World Spa Awards, The World Ski Awards and then in 2014 The World Golf Awards alongside Steve Rider, British sports television presenter. This year will be our 5th year hosting together, he’s a true gentleman and a pleasure to share the stage with. Again they liked my international background as well as my love of sport. It was in 2014 when asked to host the first WGA that I realised I needed to pick up on my game and put the time in! I’m still working on it… but as everyone knows

Q&A

Who introduced you into golf? - Friends and keen golfers gave me my first set of clubs at age 29, I had a couple of lessons then but I didn’t really start to put in any time until I was 35! Having the scenic golf courses of the Algarve where you live, which are your favourite golf courses?

Ela hosting WTA 2012

you have to be in it to win it and if I take a break at any time, my handicap really pays for it but I’ve realised that yes I love playing golf but there are so many other things I enjoy in life.. so it’s a balance of putting in just enough practice to still enjoy the game but being able to have time to enjoy other things in life too  (Having said that, I can be known to have tunnel vision when it comes to competing in a sport and had I started playing as a child, I think I would have grabbed hold of any opportunity to have gone pro, jumped at every chance to compete, travelled the world meeting talented and interesting people from all walks of life and then perhaps taken up other hobbies later on in life…) For information on her media & hosting availability please contact elaclarkmedia@gmail.com

- I really enjoyed playing at Sandy Lane – Green Monkey Golf Course, Barbados. The greens were beautifully maintained, the views spectacular and the caddy was brilliant! There are also top golf courses found closer to where I was brought up, ie Quinta do Lago South Course, which was awarded Best Golf Course in 2017.

Interviewing at the World Kids for Sky Sports.

Who is your favourite ladies apparel designer? - I guess it would be Nike really, as I find their skorts fit my shape the best; I have a fairly small waist which is tricky when it comes to fitting clothes! Nike womenswear in general is pretty good. I do however like my classic Callaway shoes… timeless! So I guess I go for a mix of modern and classic. What are your favourite funniest memories presenting the World Golf Awards? - I have to say I always laugh the most when Peter Allis takes hold of the mic as a guest presenter… never a dull moment! (Peter Allis; English professional golfer, television presenter and commentator, author and golf course designer. He has been regarded by many as the "Voice of golf "). What are your future media plans? - I’m hosting in Abu Dhabi this year at The St. Regis Saadiyat Island Resort, so I’m looking forward to getting out on the course and after that who knows what 2020 will bring 

10

Ela teeing off at La Manga for WGA Pro Am

Ladies Golf Lifestyle Magazine will be hosting ladies Pro Am events in the future, who would be in your fantasy Pro Am team? - Oohhh my fantasy Pro-Am team… well first of all there are so many great players out there today that I would be delighted to play with any of the pros, as I know I would learn from all of them! But I suppose if I had to choose, it would perhaps be… Paula Creamer.. her amazing putt at the HSBC Women’s Champions tournament in 2014 still baffles me to this day! Rebecca Hudson, 4 times LET champion, talented pro and lovely person to be out on the course with  Cristie Kerr, an absolute legend.. against all odds came out triumphant! Charley Hull, because she is a very young competitor and it’s interesting to also learn from the younger players because their game has developed through more recently discovered techniques / knowledge from the start which is interesting to compare with the earlier players’ game. Plus Karie Webb, Mi Huyn Kim and Minjee Lee. I’m 5’6 and fairly petit, so I also like to learn from players who are a similar height and build, to see how I can gain more distance with my driver and be able to compete against taller and physically stronger players.

Increase Speed, Power and Distance with Alice Davis PGA Professional at Parkstone Golf Club, Dorset BY DAVID J NICHOLSON

T

Alice Davis, PGA Professional, sponsored by Harlequin Homes and member of the Taylormade Womens Advisory Board

here are always two things that golfers ask me about when I am teaching, regardless of their level; distance and accuracy. Let’s focus on the first one. After watching the physical transformation of Bryson Dechambeau over 2020, speed and distance has been

a popular topic of conversation by commentators, professionals and amateurs. Whilst there is a lot of science behind Bryson’s physical changes, there has also been a lot of talk around his use of a 48” driver in the 2020 Masters and Phil Mickelson’s 47.5” driver. What has this got to do with distance?

LADIESGOLFLifestyle

19

FEATURE

The answer lies in basic maths and physics. By lengthening the shaft of the golf club, you are creating a longer radius arch in your swing causing the head to travel a greater distance. The further the head travels, the greater the amount of potential energy created during the swing, but that will also come at the cost of an increase in the swing time, and a slower swing reduces power. So, why are these players using longer shafts that may reduce their swing speed? The secret is in the modern materials used to create shafts. If we have a long shaft and a short shaft made of exactly the same specification, the longer shaft will be naturally more flexible. That additional flexibility is another contributor to help generate additional club head speed. There is one more element that helps improve the club head speed. Lighter shafts help the player generate swing speed, so manufacturers are now producing these lighter shafts without compromising the flex, kick point and torque. So, let’s bring that all together. Longer shafts create more potential energy because of distance travelled and the extra flex, BUT ONLY if there is no reduction in swing speed. Swing speed is regained by the player by having lighter shafts that behave at the same specification level as heavier ones. As PGA professionals performing club fittings, our testing is to determine which club/shaft a player is able to control to generate the best distance and

20

LADIESGOLFLifestyle

efficiency for their individual swing. Although longer shafts can help generate distance, the fact remains that us humans find them harder to control. So, we need to balance all the trade-offs. So, what is the benefit of more distance? Simply put, a longer shot from the tee leads to a shorter (and hopefully more accurate) approach shot into the green, therefore improving overall consistency. However, longer-hitting players often have to be more aware of course management as more hazards come into play in their game. A player may choose to play safer options, such as laying up short of a ditch or bunker instead of taking a riskier approach, knowing they have the distance in their game to still reach the green in regulation or better. Take our 2020 Masters Champion, Dustin Johnson, as an example. He has been one of the longest drivers in the world for several years, but is well-known to have struggled with his wedge play in the past. Dustin has to juggle a number of factors to generate his incredible scores. He has the distance, but it has been noticeable that the introduction of ‘fades’ into his game have given him a new weapon to deliver reduced distance from mid-irons and other clubs he is comfortable with. So, he is now able to draw or fade off the tee, apply good course management, and gives himself a range of club options for his approach shot into the green. So for Dustin, Tiger and other traditional ‘drawers’ of the ball, they have the distance in their bag when they need it, but use fades to provide reduced distance and control from high-confidence clubs.

FEATURE

Something to consider is that by gaining distance, you will sacrifice some accuracy. 5% offline dispersion at 200 yards is a lot less trouble than it is at 250 yards. There are a few simple ways that you can improve you distance that you can work on at home as well as in your own practice sessions. Speed Training Increasing the speed of your swing can be trained at the range or at home. Using an upside-down 6 or 7 iron, make 20 golf swings as fast as you can, repeating both as a left-handed and right-handed golfer to keep your body working equally. Do this once or twice a day and you will quickly see an improvement in your real swing. Centeredness of Strike To create more distance, you need to generate more ball speed. Players can increase their ball speed simply by striking the ball out of the middle of the club face more consistently. A ball strike that is ½ inch off the face centre can result in a 5% loss in potential distance because of reduced ball speed. How do we know if we are hitting the ball out of the centre? By setting up two parallel tour sticks 4-5” apart either side of your ball pointing towards your target, you can create a visual reference for you to practice your swing against. You will quickly know if you are hitting out of the centre face or not, but further confirmation can easily be given by using face tape, foot spray or dry shampoo on your club face. This simple drill can be applied to full swings, short game and putting to improve your centralised strike, therefore improving ball speed and distance.

Body Rotation A large portion of a swing’s power is generated from body rotation. A lot of beginners and midhandicappers tend to rely on their arms to generate power, but that can only take you so far. An ‘armsy’ (arm-biased) swing will have reduced distance and accuracy as there is a tendency to ‘chop’ or ‘come over the top’ in the downswing. The big muscles of your core are able to play a significant part in swing power, leaving your arms to concentrate on creating a consistent swing path. I see a lot of pupils who lack rotation in their upper and lower bodies; some due to a lack of understanding of the movement but others due to physical limitations which can be revealed through TPI (Titleist Performance Institute) screenings. To introduce more rotation into an ‘armsy’ downswing, consider the technique you tend to use when you skim a pebble over water. You will quickly understand the movement required. The golf swing is a complicated and athletic movement for everyone. Success comes from familiarity of our own individual capabilities, and that familiarity comes from a good level of consistency in our swing, especially over the course of 18 holes. There are a number of techniques we can use to improve the distance of our shots. While distance has a ’feel-good’ factor to it, it has to be balanced with some course management to see improvements on our scorecards. Good luck! The Solheim Cup will then move to even years from 2024 to avoid clashing with the Ryder Cup. "We felt it was in the best interest of the Solheim Cup to return to an off-year rotation with the Ryder Cup," said executive director Dennis Baggett. "When the competition returns to the United States in 2024, I have no doubt fans will have an incredible opportunity to celebrate the best women golfers from the United States and Europe as they represent their home countries."

FEATURE Spanish golfers have played an integral part of the tournament since the inaugural event was held in 1990, with as many as seven players representing Team Europe over the years – with only Sweden and England contributing more players to previous Solheim Cups. More recently, home favourite Carlota Ciganda has participated in the last four consecutive contests while Costa del Sol star Azahara Munoz also has four appearances to her name since making her debut in 2011. Finca Cortesin is an independent luxury golf, hotel and spa destination resort set in the rolling hills of southern Spain between Marbella and Sotogrande. The par72 course – one of the longest in Europe and which measures nearly 7,500 yards in length. Ladies European Tour CEO, Alexandra Armas, said: “We are delighted to announce Spain as the host nation for the 2023 Solheim Cup when it returns to European soil for the 18th edition of this major international team golf event. Spain is a passionate golfing nation with knowledgeable fans and a history

of developing generations of talented golfers while Andalucía’s strong cultural heritage will make for a unique experience for players, guests and supporters alike. The tournament will not only enhance the country’s reputation as an elite golfing nation but the Costa del Sol as a must-visit destination, which will help to inspire the next generation of children to take up the game.” Ladies Golf Lifestyle Magazine will be bringing extensive reviews on Finca Cortesin Golf Resort in upcoming Costa del Sol & UK Editions.

eerless Pedersen wins the inaugural Saudi Ladies International.

Emily Kristine Pedersen struck a fantastic 3 wood to 12 foot on the 18th to finish with a birdie to tie with England’s Georgie Hall at 10 under. The drama wasn’t over as unfortunately Hall found water on the play off hole, leaving Pedersen to hit a miraculous chip shot close enough to hole out & secure her stunning victory. The drama had started early as Hall had a three shot cushion with five holes to play but gutsy Pedersen kept producing birdies to claw back the opportunity on the 18th for force the play off. In total Pedersen's rollercoaster round produced 6 birdies, four bogey's & a double bogey! “I dropped a couple of shots on the front nine but then I got it back and started making a few birdies, which got me confident, added Pedersen. “I was just plugging away

Emily hit an amazing shot on the last hole in regulation and it was very brave. I am really pleased for her as she’s a really nice girl.” Solheim Cup teammates Ann Van Dam (-8) and Caroline Hedwall (-7) showed their class on Sunday to finish in third and fourth respectively after impressive final rounds in the 60s. Wales’ Lydia Hall, who had been rock solid all week, struggled over the tricky closing holes with a triple bogey on 14 derailing her hopes of a fairytale Ladies European Tour comeback. Low round of the day came from Switzerland’s Morgane Metraux, whose stunning run of nine birdies in 16 holes – following a triple-bogey on the second – led her to a 67, finishing on -5. Maha Haddioui, the first Arabic player on Tour, closed her tournament off strongly posting a two-under round of 70 to finish on +3. India’s Aditi Ashok closed on three under for a share of joint 11th after struggling on the closing holes.

Majed Al-Sorour, Chief Executive Officer, Golf Saudi and the Saudi Golf Federation, said: “It is great to see so many players in the field show their backing

for the National Golf Sustainability Strategy by wearing green. At the heart of the scheme is a commitment to the environment and creating a self-supporting golf eco-system that will ensure events like the Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by PIF only grow here and across the Kingdom in the future, so it is fantastic to see these players get behind it right from the off.

Saudi Ladies Team International

T

he Saudi Ladies Team International is a first of its kind tournament where 36 teams – professionals and amateurs – will compete together, with $500,000 total prize money on offer. It promises to be a totally different format and atmosphere to all other previous LET events, with live music echoing across the course, teams arriving on the first tee to their own choice of entrance music, and ice cream stops for players.

Teams were decided using an ‘NFL-style’ draft system that saw each captain pick their first player before being randomly allocated a third professional teammate and a competing amateur, largely made up of event sponsors and partners.

Georgia Hall and Anna Nordqvist show two Saudi women how to play

Inspired by the weekend’s debut Aramco Saudi Ladies International presented by Public Investment Fund - the Kingdom’s first ever professional women’s golf tournament – hundreds of women across the country registered for the membership scheme that will provide free golf lessons, driving range access and full rounds of golf at courses across the country, in a bid to grow the game. The Club, which opened for membership during the events, attracted more than 500 sign-ups in its first 24 hours. By the tournament’s conclusion on Sunday, there was waiting list room only. Put into context, there were less than 20 female members across the Kingdom’s golf clubs ahead of the tournament.

But for big-hitting Dutch star and keen diver Anne van Dam, the glistening turquoise waters off the coast of Royal Greens Golf & Country Club proved just too tempting. While out in the Saudi Arabian coastal city for this weekend’s debut Saudi Ladies International, the 25-yearold took time away from the tournament’s pristine green fairways to check-out one of King Abdullah Economic City’s other leading tourist attractions: its spectacular, untouched coral reef.

'Life after The European Tour' BY DAVID J NICHOLSON

P

eter was born in Orust, Sweden but he has lived in the Costa del Sol since 2004. After a successful career on The European Tour, he has been successfully running the Setune International Pro Am & Setune Amateur Pairs attracting quality fields to these prestigious events.

MEN'SGOLFLifestyle

He has recently launched the PG Golf & Sports Academy at Atalaya Golf Resort, Marbella. He is highly motivated & passionate about giving back to golf by helping amateurs & professionals to achieve their goals. I asked him about his career & future plans.

FEATURE

Q&A

2005 was your most successful year on tour, what were your highlights? After winning the Q-School at San Roque Club in November 2004 & being injured all the way up to the event, it was such a relief to get the tour card. I guess with the momentum & confidence of this, I had a few decent performances in 2005 until the fantastic finishing round at the San Roque Old Course where I shot course record 66 & finished runner up in Spanish Open. This always has made my relationship special with San Roque Club, where I am an ambassador, I suppose a little bit of a love story with one of the best courses and clubs in Europe. When we met back at the Andalucian Costa del Sol Open de Espana in 2019, we spoke about your passion for Kazakhstan with it's great courses, hospitality & opportunities. Tell me a bit more about your experiences? Its hard to start to explain because my experiences in this amazing country with its amazing people where I have made friends for life. I have experienced things I never thought was possible.

I am so grateful to haven been apart of this and it basically happened because two guys loved my flowery Hats I wore at the Kazakhstan Opens. We have climbed to the mountains of Almaty, hiking towards Kyrgijthan and playing golf in a lots of places around the world as friends. We can't pass the subject of the signature flowery hats, was it true that after buying a hat in Dallas to protect you from the sun, at the Welsh Open a boy asked you where your hat was. That inspired you to keep the image? A good friend of mine & a great golfer Johan Edfors went to Dallas to practice before one of the challenge tour swings in Central America. I found this Nike hat and started using it during the season. After a while the hat got so worn, during one of my

tournaments in Hong Kong I found in a store a flowery hat with yellow and inside red with flower pattern. I bought all they had and this is the hat I won the Q-School 2004. In the Spanish Open I changed it to the red color and I was about 5 over par in the 3rd round and I believe I have never played again in a red hat. At least not good. After a while playing in it I thought that I looked pretty good, so I decided to play in them. At the Welsh Open on the 13th a boy was standing behind the tee box and asked where was my flowery hat & that was when I knew I could never take it off. Up until today I play in them and I have flowers all over. It is a great thing and the colors makes me happy and even more when I can give a hat away to some children.

How has Covid 19 restrictions affected your business, do you think we will see more professionals coming out to stay for longer periods? Please advise what the opportunities are for them to stay & receive coaching? We had our annual planned Setune International Pro Am by Qazaqstan Golf in Costa del Sol planned 24-27th of March and also a lot of bookings for golf trips reserved and in 2 days all was cancelled or postponed. I was in shock how bad this had become. Now with the academy we are open to all amateurs and professionals to come over to bring Pro Groups, or to bring their clients to us and also teach their clients. We are aslo planning to host events for WAGR players and Professionals to make players come to Southern Spain again.

Tell me a little more about the PG Golf & Sports Academy at Atalaya Golf Course, how it came about & it's future plans? I have to say this plan came out of nowhere. I had a meeting regarding some golf trips & the director mention the Academy was for rent but I didn’t think anymore about it until in the middle of the Pandemic. My business with something like Covid 19 could erase all my income in 1 day as it did in March. I started making a proposal in May and with the changes we have made now we looking at so many possibilities for creating a great Golf Academy for Professionals, Amateurs, Group and Tour Operators. Also very important a Golf School for children to give back from everything I learned in golf during the progress from the Swedish National Team. We had a great system and I have had a fantastic career with endless experiences which I want to share with people and I believe I can do this through the academy.

You have helped Noemi Jimenez Martin, did you consider Golf Player Management as a career option? I am always trying to help people as much as possible and it was great to help Noemi in 2019-2020 unfortunately now being busy with the academy and events we parted earlier this year. She is a great person and fantastic player and I wish her all the best and will keep helping her in any way possible to reach her goals.

MEN'SGOLFLifestyle

Your other sporting passion is paddle, Antalya are building some courts along with new apartments will this be under the Academy? We are planning to build padel courts in the academy & we believe golf & padel together it can be a fantastic mix with padel booming in Northern Europe it also seems to be the only way for me to get a game nowadays working 15 hours a day to get this project to achieve it's potential!

'I was lucky enough to travel across Europe & the USA, representing the area but as far as becoming a full time tour professional goes, it was very limited.' He currently is a teaching professional based at Parley Golf Centre and wants to push the idea of golf coaching to all, a little like his clothing. 2021 Zen Green Stage is global breakthrough for indoor golf BY ANDY HISEMAN

I

n pandemic-hit 2020, the thought of playing golf indoors has never been more desirable.

But up until now, however you get your golfing kicks undercover – whether on a games console, with a launch monitor, or in a golf simulator – one thing has remained constant. The floor. Flat, unrealistic, unmoving – and unsatisfying for a true golf lover. Golf is a game of slopes: from subtle ones on the greens, to often-extreme slopes out on the fairways, or on the sides of hazards. If you’ve ever tried to hit a fade with the ball above your feet, you’ll know how difficult it is to master those variable gradients and lies out on a real golf course.

44

MEN'SGOLFLifestyle

Now, that’s all been solved with the 2021 Zen Green Stage®, the world’s first fully-adjustable playing surface for indoor golf – available for installation in your own home studio now. For players, the 2021 Zen Green Stage now adds an ultra-realistic feel to a home golf studio. “Zen Green Stage is great practice. It’s the business” said Ian Poulter, European Ryder Cup icon and Green Stage owner. People throughout golf are now seeing a future where adjustable playing surfaces are the norm. “Just as launch monitors have become universal, within a few years Zen Green Stage will be everywhere” said Tour putting coach Jon Karlsen.

FEATURE

It recently made its TV debut when Europe’s biggest sports broadcaster, Sky Sports, made it the centrepiece of its studio for the 2020 Masters Tournament broadcast. “The Zen Green is a brilliant TV tool, and enables our presenters to demonstrate the putting challenges which face professional golfers” said Sky’s Jason Wessely. Developed in Sheffield, nowadays a European powerhouse of advanced science and technology innovation, the adjustable 2021 Zen Green Stage connects with your swing studio tech for the complete indoor golf experience, giving golfers and their coaches new ways to play, teach and learn. Offering precise Wi-Fi control from your phone or tablet, the Green Stage enables you to experience minutely-adjustable sloping lies for both putting and full-swing golf to around 0.1% degrees accuracy. You can practice shots to the green from sloping lies, or practice any makeable putt on the planet – even double-breakers. On a Green Stage, you can try Tour golf ’s most iconic putts for yourself. Jack Nicklaus’s gentle double-breaker from 18 feet on the 17th at Augusta in 1986, on his way to a closing 65 and victory. Graeme McDowell’s crucial left-to-right 15-footer on the 16th during The Ryder Cup at Celtic Manor in 2010, which set up his Cup-winning victory against Hunter Mahan. Seve’s slippery 12-footer on the last at St Andrews, to win the 1984 Open Championship. Tour putting coach Phil Kenyon, whose putting drills are used by legions of Tour golfers including Tommy

Fleetwood, Justin Rose, Francesco Molinari and 2019 U.S Open Champion Gary Woodland, said: “The 2021 Zen Green Stage has joined launch monitors as one of the essentials for the modern golf studio.” Zen founder Nick Middleton says: “Many are now saying that the Zen Green Stage fundamentally improves indoor golf, no matter what other tech you use.” Although a prototype version has been in use in golf academies and private homes around the world after making its debut in 2017, the 2021 Zen Green Stage is an all-new model, with a wide range of capabilities including: • Unique all-direction movement, including double breaking putts • Robust Putting and Full Swing configurations • Rapid slope transitions • Up to 10% gradient left / right • Up to 8% gradient up / down • NEW Precise Wi-Fi control from your phone or tablet • NEW Future-proof: connects with tomorrow’s technology • NEW Precise accuracy +/- 0.1% • NEW Stand-on-stage control • NEW Auto self-levelling and calibration • NEW Intuitive control system • NEW Safety features • NEW Self-assembly option • NEW Ultra-real putting turf • NEW Strengthened design supports multiple players at once • NEW Dramatic in-floor installation option • NEW Adjustable Strike Turf mat

FEATURE

When used with a launch monitor, the 2021 Zen Green Stage enables you to capture new data which you never had before, more accurately mirroring the real-world playing conditions found on an undulating golf course. ‘Let’s look at your numbers’ has never been this powerful, or as much fun. “I would categorise the arrival of the connected, adjustable playing surface as a fundamental evolution of indoor golf ” says Nick Middleton. “We believe it’s a seminal moment in creating the complete indoor golf experience.” Green Stages are appearing throughout the world, as Zen works with global partners to design and install next-generation indoor golf experiences. The new product also offers a simple selfassembly option, for

people who are building their own indoor swing room. Zen is also promising a brand-new ‘Augmented Reality’ product is just around the corner, which will integrate with the 2021 Green Stage to provide an even more spectacular experience. “The Zen Green Stage is the final piece of the jigsaw. No other technology has its capabilities” said Phil Kenyon. “I now give better lessons simply because I have the Green Stage. In that respect, it is priceless.” The 2021 Zen Green Stage retails from £20,950. For a tailored quote please email info@zenoracle.com, or call +44 (0)114 262 6933. www.zengreenstage.com

e caught up with Michel after his recent accreditation to cover the European Tour, Estrella Damm N.A Andalucia Masters at the Real Club Valderamma. Michel’s passion for photography started 12 year’s ago covering diverse male & female sports from extreme sports to golf, cycling & paddle tennis. Currently living in the Costa del Sol, Michel covers events in the region but plans to extend his work across Spain in 2020. As well as golf events, he also works with professional golfers in the Costa del Sol on individual photoshoots. He covered Noemi Jimenez’s win on the inaugural AGP Costa del Sol professional tournament. To find out more about his work and availability, please visit his website www.michelmartinpics.com. He has kindly provided us with these excellent images of his work. When did you start getting into photography? - I always liked sports photography and photographing all the sports I practiced. I started doing it more seriously about 12 years ago. Photographing mostly extreme sports. We understand that you also cover other sports does this include ladies sports? - Yes, I try to cover any sport, whether extreme or not. Surfing, skateboarding, wakeboarding, golf, paddle, cycling, ... And of course I include women's sport in any discipline I photograph. I would not understand a sport without women practicing it. Are you looking at covering more professional tour events in Spain? - Of course, I would like to cover all possible professional events in Spain, never forgetting amateur sports. I currently live on "La Costa del Sol” (Malaga) and cover upcoming events but I hope to cover the event all over Spain very soon. Do you work with individual golfers for photoshoots for their websites? - Yes, I have worked with some professional Malaga golfers. I really like the photo sessions without the pressure of the competition, they are much more fun and you can get very spectacular images.

STABILITY TOUR SHAFT

FROM BREAKTHROUGH GOLF TECHNOLOGY

Editorial Review. BY DAVID J NICHOLSON

S

tability Tour shaft is the result of feedback from the best golfers and coaches in the world and offers the same state-of-the-art performance as the Original Stability Shaft. Barney Adams, Breakthrough Golf CEO, states “Introducing a tour model is just a natural progression of the brand. Stability clearly has filled a void in the putter category and now golfers who want to play exactly what the pros play will have that option with Stability Tour”.

52

MEN'SGOLFLifestyle

STABILITY TOUR FEATURES: • Look. Streamline, slim look which tapers to a 13% reduction in the shaft diameter. Stability Tour also offers a complete blackout appearance to reduce line of sight distraction. • Balance. Stability Tour will balance like a steel shaft which makes it easy to recreate a specific swing weight when re-shafting.

FEATURE Better golfers can replace their steel shaft without appreciably changing the balance of the putter. This allows the most discerning players to achieve precise specifications on their equipment. • Feel. Offers a softer feel. It will match the balance point and flex profile of steel with 30% more carbon fiber for crisp, responsive sound and control preferred by discerning golfers and tour professionals. The Stability Tour shaft is designed with BGT’s patented Advanced Materials Technology, a scientifically proven platform which delivers the face square at impact. This results in a lower launch for predictable roll and better distance control. Blair Philip, VP R&D says “Testing confirms that both the Original Stability and Stability Tour deliver the groundbreaking performance that BGT has pioneered in our tour-proven putter shaft designs”. Stability Tour Shafts are available for immediate shipment from the USA.

Founder Barney Adams About Breakthrough Golf Technology In a suburb of Dallas, Texas lies a new golf shaft company with 100 years of experience. The state-of-the-art facility utilizes the latest technology to develop and bring to market the finest, most precise shafts available. Founder Barney Adams, who has always had the unique ability to see what is truly missing in Golf equipment, decided to focus on the putter shafts since there had been no significant innovation for decades. A team of award-winning engineers was assembled and no shaft company on the planet delivers innovation in golf shafts like Breakthrough Golf Technology. Men's Golf Lifestyle Magazine Review. Our trials recorded that the Tour Stability Shaft was more consistent over 5 & 10ft as opposed to long distance of 15ft where results varied. In conclusion the 10ft putt was it's highest accuracy consistently.
