“Impact” At the time of publishing this piece still stands. The term ‘piece’ is very subjective. So bad that it’s unbuffable? Maybe... Shouts to the artist for having one of the longest running burners in Memphis..

The ropes were shown to me. I learned where to enter, when to enter.. Always to climb over and to always avoid crawling/ crouching under. Sprayed lines and curves slowly began to make sense.. Monikers became as familiar as old friends. Respect was paid to the train’s wail that seemed far away and the intensifying rumble of the rails. Although I’ve been fortunate, I know if you play with the ‘bull’, you get the horns.

One of the things I quickly grew to appreciate, sometimes even more than the piece as a whole, were the little blurbs sometimes left. They are the punctuation. Not everything has to be a sentence but we sometimes get a better understanding when it is.

It is what it is. Fact of the matter is that some parts of the city will always get certain things before other parts. There are a lot of things that factor into these decisions. A lot of things that turn on cogs far removed from my own. As I stood in the crumbling parking lot, wind in my face, camera to my eye, I felt the same thing I always feel when capturing the grittiness that many harp about but never see firsthand; ‘this is beautiful’. Definitely not in the traditional sense.. but it is.

The great ‘equalizers’.. firearms and dollar bills. Having a pocket stuffed with either one can make you feel very empowered.
Both are plentiful but often hard to get a hold of when you truly ‘need’ it. ...Especially in a place and time where many strive to stay flushed and strapped.
