The cinema programme at the Institut français d’Ecosse screens a new film every Wednesday at 2:00pm and 6:45pm. This February we will be screening a hand-picked documentary every Tuesday at 6:45 pm. These #ifcinema film screenings are FREE and for our MEMBERS ONLY.

Illustrated by Hélène Rajcak, Panthera Tigris is, in fact, the story of different types of knowledge. A specialist on an expedition to deepen his knowledge on tigers crosses the jungle with a local guide. When their journey turns up unexpectedly, our protagonist will have to evaluate the usefulness of theoretical vs. practical knowledge. Vineet Lal will be giving us a talk about his translation of the children’s book «Panthéra Tigris» by Sylvain Alzial. During his talk, Vineet will be sharing with a young audience anecdotes from his translation journey.

The obscure cities «Between Utopia and Dystopia» DATE

Currently Professor of Graphic Fiction and Comic Art at Lancaster University, the novelist, graphic novelist, intellectual biographer, cultural historian and screen-writer Benoît Peeters will be giving a talk on his famous comics with François Schuiten «Les Cités Obscures» at the Institut français d’Ecosse. The Obscure Cities inspire dreams about the infinite shapes cities could take now and later. The event is co-organised by the Institut français d’Ecosse, Wallonie Bruxelles, University of Edinburgh (UoE) School of Literatures, Languages and Cultures as part of DELC Seminar series and follows a masterclass entitled «An icon in the making : Tintin», on the same day at the UoE Project Room, 50 George Sq at 16 10 am.
