Welcome Message Dear IFMSA Family, Not long ago, over 800 young health leaders from all around the world gathered in Rwanda to discuss a diversity of global health issues, learn new skills, gain exceptional experiences and make the most critical decisions for our Federation and its future. We parted ways in high spirits after experiencing this unforgettable and unique adventure.. Sadly, this feeling was short-lived as the looming threat of the COVID-19 pandemic became inevitably true. The effects of this pandemic were immediate. Our daily lives, plans, and dreams have all been put on hold as our governments implemented various measures to contain the outbreak. The months that followed demonstrated what a united world can accomplish through urgent action and global solidarity. Initiatives sprung from all corners of the world to help those who are most vulnerable and affected by this imperative reality we all found ourselves in. We as well did not falter. We quickly adapted to this global health emergency… The ceaseless years and efforts focused on capacity building aimed towards equipping medical students with the knowledge, skills, and values to take on health leadership roles on a local and global level proved their worth. The members of IFMSA effectively-identified where and how they could help, showing their proficient ability to tackle this far-reaching challenge. Learning about the successful projects and awe-inspiring initiatives across the globe by our members warmed our hearts and motivated us to take on this challenging pandemic and show the world what IFMSA can do. IFMSA General Assemblies represent the highlights of every term, the pinnacle of our work, and continuous motivation to work towards the vision of IFMSA. Each meeting is filled with the unique sharing of funny, inspiring, and unforgettable memories; sharing of a diversity of opinions about upcoming discussions and decisions to be made; anxiousness to reconnect with dear friends as well as making new friendships. Words can not describe how extraordinary that 5-day journey is. It is only when we are under the same sky and walking in the same halls that IFMSA is able to unlock our true potential. Canceling the 69th IFMSA General Assembly August Meeting in Panama was one of the most difficult decisions that needed to be made. Throughout the year, we already work at a distance, looking at screens, texts, emails and all the other virtual spaces modern technology provides us with. COVID-19 pandemic has maybe denied us that unique opportunity to connect, meet new people, and make new friendships and memories, but only in the way we have done it for years. The marvels of modern technology have now given us the chance to challenge the situation we are in and to look at this obstacle as one that we can overcome. In the months following the announcement of cancellation of the physical meeting, we have been working day-and-night to provide our IFMSA members with the next best thing: the Online 69th General Assembly August Meeting 2020. We have prepared for all NMO members a uniquely diverse mix of open access and closed, more interactive sessions for particular global health topics. Be ready for a once-in-a-lifetime experience as we bring the decision-making processes of IFMSA to your home for the first time in the history of our Federation. Now it’s up to you to join us and shape a very special Online General Assembly, proving yet again the relentless capabilities of IFMSA and its hard-working members. Our impact should never stop not on ourselves, nor on the world. Nebojša Nikolić. IFMSA President 2019-2020

NMOMANAGEMENT SESSIONS 7
NMO-Management Sessions
Introduction The impossible we do tomorrow, miracles take a little longer
Dear IFMSA members and CB passionates, Months ago we ended NMO Management sessions in Rwanda with the hope of meeting again soon. We might be sad, demotivated and even disparate since we won’t enjoy the experience of a full physical GA in panama. Yet as future health care leaders and CB enthusiasts we should take the responsibility of moving forward with our plans and not give up. Thus we decided to host the first ever Online General Assembly in IFMSA. This is going to be a unique, amazing and unforgettable experience where you will go through the different aspects of NMO Management from the comfort of your home. The sessions will be designed based on the most modern E-Learning methodologies and on the needs of your organization. We aim to equip you with all the skills and knowledge needed to tackle the biggest challenges your organization is facing on the level of
8
finances, public relations, External affairs and organizational development. We have been working hard with the session team members to give you the opportunity in attending several parallels based on your organization needs as well as granting you the space to discuss, share and collaborate with your fellow NMOs. Always remember we are not just random medical students, we are more than that. We are meant to be future health care leaders in facing all the challenges. And this is our first challenge so lets make it an opportunity.
Looking forward to meeting you all soon.
With love
Hayder Noori IFMSA-VPCB 2019-2020

Sessions Description Organizational Development
Strategic Planning Strategic planning is important to an organization because it provides a sense of direction and outlines measurable goals. It is an essential tool for guiding day-to-day procedures. Have you ever heard about VMOSA? Or how to make an effective strategy that shapes the reality of your NMO? If the answer is no, don’t worry, this session is the right place for you! We will talk about how to write our NMO’s Vision, Mission, Objectives, Strategies and Action Plan (aka VMOSA). We will also discuss some tips to develop a great plan of action and avoid a lot of problems. Come join us!
Strategy evaluation and follow-up After setting your strategy based on your needs, does it serve the purpose you set it for? If it does or doesn’t, how can you know that? In order to make an impactful outcome we need to evaluate our strategy and if so, does it really meet the desired goal you already set?. We will learn several approaches to evaluate the strategy based on different aspects. Stay excited and let’s strategy!
CB Establishement You might have heard the term “Capacity Building” in IFMSA before, but do you actually know what it is? Are you aware of its importance for us as a federation? Would you like to make it real in your NMO? Would like to work on creating your CB Plan? Then it’s time to start from scratch! We have the answers to all these questions and more in this session!
10
CB Development So your NMO already has a working CB system... Congrats! Let’s take it forward! In this session we aim to build on the already existing structures, to tackle the main issues, problems and obstacles you may find and and create solutions. If you want to create a more structured regime that suits your NMO’s individual needs and to DEVELOP capacity building to the next level, don’t hesitate to join us!
Handover When you held your latest leadership position, you might have gone through an amalgam of concerns and motivation. Over time you must have gone back to the past and searched for material, documents, resources and even the relevant person. It is sheer luck for many positions and the position holders to be able to progress from where someone left or start anew from scratch. When we reach out for a position, it’s usually due to our binding motivation and will to work for a specific cause. After achieving this place and reaching a certain success in our plan of action we establish some ground on which a foundation can be built. It takes effort, love and energy to reach our set milestones, and it takes organisational skills and courage to give shape to one’s endeavour for the successor to take lead from. It is this very competency we will be mastering in the session where we learn about handover.
Online Facilitation Times are changing, technology is evolving more and more every day, and so is Capacity Building! In the past months we have all needed to adapt to online settings in every aspect of our lives, also when it comes to training sessions. Who said they were limited to physical meetings? IFMSA is developing its online platforms and courses, and it is time to give facilitators and trainers the keys to online facilitation and the tools they need in order to keep on developing their online skills. Do you want to make a great learning experience out of your online sessions, as if they happened face to face? Then you can’t miss this opportunity!
Members’ Engagement One of the main problems an organization can face is the lack of active participation of the members during the different activities (organizing or just participating in them) and this is a situation presented at Local, National and International level, so don’t worry that’s not only your NMO or Local Committee situation. This is why we need to learn about the different ideals, approaches and situations involved in the proper engagement of our members; The objective of this session is to help participants understand the importance of having their members empowered and well trained in specific areas. This will make them to have a clear horizon on how to continuously and effectively motivate their members.
11
External Relations Stream
Meaningful Youth Participation and Partnerships As youth working in a youth-led organization, we are bound to interact and work with adults and other organizations, and strive to initiate partnerships that support our work, with externals who have similar vision and goals. However, we sometimes find ourselves not participating in the decision making processes equally with adults, or given conditions on our participation or even having our opinions amended. In this session, we will explore how youth and adults interact, how to ensure we are meaningfully participating in ways that contribute to change, and spot situations where we are not effectively involved. We will also explore how to find, analyse and approach stakeholders to create -and sustain- partnerships in national contexts, allowing mutually beneficial collaborations and the summation of efforts towards the goals we strive to achieve.
Advocacy in External Relations Global Health Advocates; 3 words I would use to describe us as IFMSA members. Most of the work we do revolves around advocating for the causes we believe in; whether it is SDGs, health for all, better medical education, protection of human rights, gender equity or any other cause. Advocacy is how we influence change and convince others with our cause, making it an essential skill in the world of External Representation. But have you paused to think about what those 3 words entail? What does it take to be a good advocate? How can I promote the causes I believe in and influence decision making processes? Malala, Ghandi and Mandela were all advocates, for different causes and in different ways, because there is no “one way to do it” in advocacy, and there is no roof to the impact it can have. If you’re interested to learn more about all the different ways we can advocate, and the process for effective advocacy; this is a session you shouldn’t miss.
12
Finances Stream Fundraising and Budgeting Two core financial activities needed for any project we might engage in. The session is aimed to show the different ways the IFMSA NMOs can fundraise to sustain their projects as well as to acquire the needed resources to keep a sustainable organization. On the other hand, budgeting is crucial to organize the funds we might receive and it is critical to control expenses. This session aims to give the members information on how to build a sustainable budget, to ensure they are spending their money wisely.
Internal Management of Finances Finances are a central part of administration and NMO management. The medical curricula does not include the managing of funds and how to use them to further and improve projects. This session aims to show the basics on how to keep financial management in an organized, project - driven and safe way. Internal control mechanisms will be the central topic of this session as to minimize financial risk.
PR&C Stream Show, Don’t Tell l Video Storytelling 101 Nowadays, the usage of video for marketing purposes has been increasing. One survey found 92% of marketers said it’s an important part of their marketing strategy. As video is a medium that’s easy to digest, entertaining and engaging. But only if it is made in the right way. As nonprofit organizations, video can be used to help fundraise or promote activities and projects, or to recruit volunteers and increase future impact. However, if it’s not made in the right way, it may only be a video. Video isn’t about a recording or animation for particular minutes that tell audiences about the aim of the video. It is about showing the message you want to tell. In this session, it will explain the benefits of using video as marketing content, types of storytelling (web series, short video, documentary, thematic video, biography video, explainers, vlogs, interviews, live videos), tips for video storytelling, creative concepts, using recorded documentaries), and a simple 101 ways of creating creative videos (which applications to be used, free video stocks, using free templates of After Effect).
13
Sticky! Brand Your NMO and Connect! You might not think about branding when you think about nonprofits, NGOs, and other social enterprises. Branding sounds like something strictly for big businesses. The truth is branding is an important factor for nonprofit organizations just as much as it is for businesses. Branding is all about your public image. It’s how the world sees your organization and the work you do. A strong brand can help you raise money, increase awareness, and build a reputation. Here’s why you need a strong brand as a nonprofit organization and some tips for creating a brand strategy. It’s not enough to have a great cause you’re fighting for as a nonprofit. You need to know how to market that cause in a way that people will actually want to help. Branding helps your organization stand out in a world with so many different causes. It helps the public learn about your story and how you make the world a better place. People like to donate and volunteer for organizations they trust and understand. Your branding bridges this gap between average people and your organization!
What to Prepare ? • Good internet connection. • Have your camera open during the sessions. • Make sure you come after a good breakfast/lunch. • Boost your energy and ambition to learn. • Engage, participate and make new friends.

STANDING COMMITTEE SESSIONS 15
Sessions
Introduction No word felt right to start this welcoming message. Maybe it is not right of me to welcome you anyway. Who am I to do so? What privilege do I have to say whether you are welcome or not in the largest students’ gathering with the aim to discuss Medical Education and students’ leadership in the field? I don’t think I have that power, not on my own anyway.
The SCOME Sessions are not defined by 4 walls that bring us physically closer, or a Zoom link we can enter to listen to someone’s presentation with all the IFMSA buzzwords, but rather it is the connection and network that are built among hundreds of young people who are passionate about Medical Education, it is that fear you let go of once you know you are seen, heard, understood, and most importantly, belong to a global community of medicals students, it is that butterfly feeling you get once you think the sessions are over, but yet a journey is about to start without your knowledge nor consent. Simply said, the SCOME Sessions are defined by you, as you read this document and prepare to engage in a global conversation with medical students worldwide, to challenge the status quo, and voice what ought to be instead of what is with
16
our world. As we are going through special global circumstances where engagement is needed more than ever, social distancing should not be a barrier to carry the torch of Medical Education Advocacy, as the digital world brings a whole new pile of possibilities we have never thought existed before, one of which is the online SCOME Sessions. As we are going online this IFMSA August General Assembly Meeting, the online SCOME Sessions are a new opportunity to break the barrier to attending a physical IFMSA Meeting and bring closer to you the IFMSA global discussions about Medical Education. Thus, the SCOME Sessions Team are working day and night (depending on which timezone), to ensure the highest engagement around the current hot topics in Medical Education and IFMSA, so as to exchange good practices, discuss local issues and open our eyes to new perspectives. Dear members, worldwide, we hope the sessions will bring you the impact it had on many of us throughout the past years, as thanks to the SCOME Sessions I constantly feel empowered, inspired, fired up, and ready to go.
Are you? All the best, Marou.

Welcome Message Dear SCOPEople, Even before our Rwandaful experience in March was over, we were already counting the days for us to meet again in Panama for the August Meeting. Due to unexpected circumstances we are not gathering in person, but we, as good IFMSAian people, have found a way to do it online. Soon, we will be together again. Your SCOPE Sessions Team is preparing everything with love and cannot wait to enjoy the next few days (or should we call it weeks?) with you! If you have any doubts, do not hesitate to contact us!
Lots of love,
Your Online General Assembly SCOPE Sessions Team

Welcome to SCOPE The Standing Committee on Professional Exchange (SCOPE) was founded in 1951 and is one of the first standing committees within IFMSA. It started small, beginning with only 8 European countries, but since then has grown into one of the largest student-run exchange programs in the world, with around 17.000 medical students participating every year from more than 100 National Member Organizations. The SCOPE exchange program is a quality educational and cultural experience organized entirely by medical students with the help of their medical faculties.
SCOPE VISION Ex(Change) the world!
SCOPE Mission The aim of SCOPE is to promote cultural understanding and cooperation amongst medical students and all health professionals, through the facilitation of international student exchanges. SCOPE aims to give all students the opportunity to learn about global health, and attains this partly by having its exchanges accredited by medical faculties across the world.

Welcome Message Dear SCOREans, Normally, it is that wonderful time of the year again where SCOREans from all around the world gather in one place to get to know each other, share discussions, learn new skills and tools to improve our exchange program, and of course gather for the Contracts Fair. Sessions
Welcome Message These past months, when a pandemic started hitting every corner of the world, SCORA members worldwide have been leading amazing initiatives to advance SRHR in many different ways and ensure SCORA work doesn’t lose momentum. This is a shout out to you all: once more you’ve showed a strong sense of commitment and delivered outcomes to your communities that do justice to our vision “A world where every individual is empowered to exercise their sexual and reproductive health rights equally, free from stigma and discrimination”. “Challenges and opportunities” would perhaps be a catchy name to title, not only the next SCORA sessions, but as well the overall next General Assembly. We are getting into a new space - still a safe space though - we are trying new things for the first time and we are doing our best to take advantage of every opportunity that is presented to us in this new scenario. All in all, the same goals that a regular GA has; building capacities and new skills, networking, sharing good practices, building friendships, grabbing coffee at 8:55 when the session starts at 9 and come up with great energisers to be able to focus on what is going on, will be present. I firmly believe the SCORA spirit will get into your rooms and we will get to connect and share as we always do. This requires everyones’ efforts and I count on you all to make it happen. Let’s collectively walk towards our vision and challenge the norms now more than ever showcasing how the family we are, is still united, no matter the distance. That we can still connect regardless of not sitting on the floor in small working groups and we can share, even without flip charts and whiteboards. Dear resilient and passionate SRHR advocates, ,Welcome to the first ever Online SCORA General Assembly sessions.
Lalu on behalf of SCORA Sessions Team

Welcome Message Dear SCOPHeroes, It is with great pleasure that I welcome you all to the first ever online General Assembly. To say that this year has been difficult could be a gross understatement. It is unfortunate that we will not assemble in Panama to close the term and say goodbye to each other. However, the silver lining of this cloud is that those who would not have made it in person will now access the GA online. We hope to make the most of this unique experience and still yield the great results that come from a physical meeting. Aptly, the theme of the GA is ‘Youth & Health Emergencies’. We will look at how health emergencies affect us as youth, and how we can contribute to mitigating their effects. We aim to educate you as future healthcare leaders who may potentially have to deal with other health emergencies. Aside from this, we will update you on what the International Team has accomplished during the term and collect your input in order to improve the work done. I encourage you to attend the meeting with eagerness to learn and connect with likeminded people from all over the world. Share your own public health experiences from your home country and take back knowledge to better your community. What we do in SCOPH is ultimately for our communities!
Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, ‘what are you doing for others?’ Martin Luther King Jr We cannot wait to e-meet you!

Day 2 August 14th, 2020
UHC : Universal Health Coverage !
Health Systems Resilience for Pandemics In light of the current COVID-19 crisis, health systems became a hotter topic. In fact, health systems is a topic we must not let behind considering the vital role it plays in shaping communities´ economy and well-being. During this online session you’ll get the chance to know the building blocks of a resilient health system.
Health Equity & SDH in the GH arena Health equity is the foundation of Global Health. Hence, to tackle health inequity we must break down the social determinants of health (SDH), a combination of social and economic factors that influence an individual’s health status and identify areas of improvement continuously. How are SDH impacting us? What’s the role of social and health gradient? What can we do to ensure equity in our communities? Join us and discover the answer to all the question marks present in the global health arena.
Advocacy plan for UHC Access to healthcare is a basic human right. Countries around the world should aim to adopt Universal Health Coverage. However, being multi-pillared, it is difficult to establish. Our NMOs should aspire to advocate through awareness campaigns, lobbying, research... This highly interactive session aims to compile ideas and initiatives in order to establish an advocacy plan on UHC for our SCOPHeroes to use.
Global Health Protection & Security The world is increasingly facing global health threats; from pandemics, climate change and other public health disasters that threaten the global economy and general well-being of the people. This session will educate participants on how collective international public health action can build a safer future for humanity.
44
Day 3 August 15th, 2020
Planetary Health
Climate Change and Infectious Diseases What does our environment have to do with infectious diseases? The answer is; absolutely more than you can imagine! In the middle of a pandemic, it is essential for us to reflect around what is happening in our planet right now that is making communicable diseases a source of concern worldwide, and what is the role we are playing (and the one that we should play) as human beings in this scenario. Join us in this session, to learn, discuss & find new pathways and solutions for the future!
Planetary Health 101 Human activity, which has led to accelerating environmental degradation, has mortgaged the health of current and future generations for development and financial gains. If we want to live a healthy life, we need a healthy planet that can sustain us. In this session, you will learn about one of the most significant and emerging concepts of health set by the Rockfeller Foundation-Lancet Commission-Planetary Health. Such concept spans the human health implications of the rapid deterioration of our planet and natural resources.
Global Governance on CC Have you ever wondered how world leaders work to mitigate Climate Change and its consequences? Have you ever wanted to immerse yourself in one of the biggest fights of our century? This session will introduce you to the fundamentals of Global Governance on Climate Change and Health and equip you with the knowledge and skills necessary to join the fight against Climate Change.
Pandemic Preparedness through a One Health Lens An estimated 3 out of 4 emerging infectious diseases are zoonotic. Epidemics, like that of malaria in South America due to deforestation, can easily get further out of hand. Therefore, to reduce the risk of and prepare for a pandemic, it is vital to take a holistic approach that takes humans, animals and the environment into consideration. We invite every SCOPHero to attend and gain new practical knowledge to put into use!
45
Day 3 August 15th, 2020
NCDs
Mental health and COVID-19 COVID- 19 has created a big impact on us, both physically and mentally. We will also focus on empowering the participants with the knowledge and skill to advocate for mental health amidst the COVID-19 pandemic.
NCDs and PHC Primary Healthcare is and has always been important in the field of Non Communicable Diseases management and prevention. In this session, you will get introduced to NCDs and PHC. You will get to know more about the importance of PHC for NCDs management, in addition to the different approaches among which we can incorporate PHC for the prevention of NCDs. Sessions
Welcome Message Back in April, when we first started to brainstorm for the August Meeting, we never knew what the future was holding for us! Little did we know that we would be heading towards a new adventure, to explore the “not so known”! To somewhere beyond our comfort zone where magic happens! Faced with an emergency, we have an opportunity to move beyond the usual physical settings, and towards a new world wide online settings - one that is indeed more inclusive and sustainable. It is in such unprecedented times and out of ordinary situations the world is currently in, that we need to trust ourselves and unleash our minds. As such, we embraced the challenge ahead, looking for the opportunities in it, to prepare for an unique and out of the box August Meeting. The COVID-19 crisis has also opened the eyes of the world to a variety of crises, new and old, and human rights violations, exposing hidden vulnerabilities and their intersections. This Online August Meeting we will try to shed light on these issues, look beyond our immediate horizons, and reflect on today’s complex, intersectional and turbulent world. As we once again assemble, I encourage you to bear the following considerations in mind. Human rights issues are highly complex and intersectional. Awareness and discussions alone may not solve such deep rooted problems. But youth working together, hand in hand, even if miles apart, can co-create and pave the way for positive change. Let us share our ideas and good practices; learn from each other; and support each other to participate meaningfully, to make an impact, to human rights, to peace … and beyond!

Day 1 August 7th, 2020
To Access Full Agenada
Open Space: Medical Students in Emergency Response: Looking back at previous and current emergencies, the role of medical students in the response has varied drastically from one situation to the other. Between regulated, organized and protected involvement and chaotic, forced and exploited, how are medical students impacted? We want to hear from you on how your experiences have been lately with the COVID-19 pandemic, on how you foresee the role of medical students in health emergencies, what are some of the best practices and what needs to change.
Nuclear Weapons : Not Our Business? How do medical students associate with nuclear weapons? During this session, we aim to introduce nuclear weapons, the humanitarian consequences it presents, and the medical peace work that comes along. Along with our external partners, Kelvin and Franca from IPPNW, we would also discuss with you how medical students can contribute to campaigning and education on advocacy against nuclear weapons.
Day 2 August 14th, 2020 Lessons from the Pandemic: Health for All must pass through Social Justice and Health The world is witnessing the most atrocious pandemic that modern-day times has ever seen. While this crisis exposed many vulnerable situations, social injustice and health inequalities have been especially amplified, as the pandemic took the world off guard both socially and economically. Throughout the COVID-19 experience, there has been an increased awareness of the importance of the underlying determinants of health. This would likely place Health Equity as a golden standard in international and national policies in the coming years. This health crisis has emphasized on both health care and social conditions as fundamental parts of the right to health, both in standard and crisis settings.
50
Building Back Better: The Aftermath of Health Emergencies and Resilience of Communities What happens after a health emergency? Does life go back to normal for the affected communities? Do health systems learn and improve the quality of their services? Will there be any new protocols to be introduced? These are some questions to be tackled during this session. The importance of the aftermath of a health emergency is underrated and not oriented to the needs of the affected community. During this session, we will try to understand what “the end” means in a crisis, how this framing of “timing” affects the experiences of those affected, how global health can create vulnerable subjects, the distribution of risk and vulnerability, and how to know and intervene as health care providers.
Migration in the Time of COVID-19: A New Reason to Move Populations migrate due to certain vulnerabilities, persuading better life stands and better job opportunities etc. COVID-19 has affected almost everyone in the world. A lot has changed, economies are being affected, vulnerabilities are increasing due to this deadly pandemic. In this session we will explore the vulnerabilities that pushed people to migrate before the pandemic and the consequences of this pandemic on populations vulnerable to migration and how it magnified and increased vulnerabilities and reasons to migrate, the short term consequences of COVID-19 on migration and the long term consequences of migration on these affected countries after the pandemic.
Refugees, Gender and Health Emergencies: When Vulnerabilities Intersect Refugees often live in uncertainty with limited access to health services, are not included in public information campaigns, work in the informal economy, and face restrictions on their movement. These problems occurred even when there is no global health emergency. In the context of a pandemic, things get even worse. Within already vulnerable displaced communities, women and girls are at even greater risk. Cultural norms, underrepresentation, and a host of other challenges further marginalize them socially, politically, and economically. This session will discuss more on the intersectionality of those problems and ways to overcome them through meaningful activities and advocacy
51
Day 3 August 15th, 2020 Water Politics: Putting the Right to Health at Risk? Water is a human right. It is also a key determinant of health. Access to an adequate and safe supply of water is essential for individual and public health. This in addition to water being a fundamental factor for the social, economic, and environmental sustainability of every community. As such water holds a substantial value as a local and regional resource with significant geopolitical impact, as its resources extend beyond borders and political jurisdictions. This fact, in addition to the scarcity of resources and lack of safe water, dramatically increases the potential for cross-border tensions in water-stressed regions. In this session, we will look further into the implications of hydro-politics on communities and their health, the consequences of , and the importance of diplomacy in resolving waterrelated conflict.
Politics and Health: Is politics a barrier in the way to health for all? We like to think of health as something we have a certain level of control over: sleep well, eat healthy food and exercise regularly in order to live a healthy life. However, our health is not only depending on our behaviour, a big part rests in the hands of our politicians. Most of the ‘social determinants of health’ are influenced by politics and governance. What influence do politics have over our health status? Who benefits from certain political decisions and who is left behind? Can politics be a barrier in the way to health for all?
Mapping the Margins: Intersectional Racism “When there’s no name for a problem, you can’t solve it”. Racism, rooted in many societies across the world throughout history, is considered to be a key determinant of health. It exposes people to poorer health outcomes, and reduced access to healthcare. When talking about racism, it is common to overlook the unique patterns of discrimination resulting from the intersection of race with different social categorizations like age, class, religion and many more. Have you ever thought about how the consequences of racism can be aggravated when adding another vulnerability to the equation? In this session, we will explore this question and find out why it is crucial to address human rights related issues from an intersectional perspective.
Open Space: Implications of COVID-19 on Democracy and Human Rights The COVID-19 pandemic has been more than just a global public health crisis. It has huge

implications for democracies and fundamental human rights around the world. Some governments are restricting civil liberties, discriminating in enforcement of pandemicrelated measures, limiting parliamentary and civic oversight, and exploiting opportunities for executive aggrandizement in the name of fighting the pandemic. Let’s dive into discussions on real life examples you are witnessing around the world, with an aim to better understand the less mentioned impact COVID-19 has on our society and develop better potential practices through our exchanges of ideas.
Debunking the “Globality” of Health: Critical analysis of Global Health post-colonialism For the last two decades “Global Health” has been a term vaguely defined, at first being used by Northern countries for their interests. Nowadays, the term named as “Global” has lost all of its roots, is being misused and is one of many concepts that can be discriminatory in a certain way, because it does not agree with the different nuances of every population. Since those times Global Health has developed to be a new slogan used by developed countries in order to progress about this topic, but the true reality is that, research and practice take place mostly in Europe and North America, all of this because they have resources, whereas in places named as “South Countries” have low or limited development in the research area.
Day 4 August 16th, 2020 The Diagnostic Gap : How Medical Education deepens inequalities and injustice Each individual’s experience of health is different because of the intersection of a multitude of individual and societal factors. However, modern-day medical education still fails in equipping students to deal with this diversity in health conditions. This failure results in a gap between physicians’ knowledge and practice and , which only deepens health disparities and inequities between different members of a community. As an integral part of the educational process, medical students should be able to reflect on and address the shortcomings of their educational systems in promoting intersectional medical practice, and thus ensuring a dignified, diversity-sensitive and high quality healthcare.
SCORP Out of the Box
a new concept that was introduced last term, offers the platform to delegates to see something a little different – a new and perhaps provocative or idiosyncratic approach to human rights education and discussing human rights issues. Approximately 10 minutes is allocated for each presentation. There is no prescribed format, and presenters may use the time however they wish, with an emphasis on creativity, performance and engagement with the audience.
