TerraZero’s Vision for the Future of iGaming

Interview with Dan Reitzik CEO of TerraZero

In the rapidly evolving world of gaming, TerraZero emerges as a leader with a bold vision for the future. Led by CEO Dan Reitzik, the company is at the forefront of integrating gamified immersive digital environments, transforming how we experience igaming. The Intraverse platform, TerraZero’s flagship product, exemplifies this innovative spirit, offering a unique blend of gaming, social interaction, and ecommerce.

Land-based casinos have tried VR/ AR games on-premises with headsets and hand-controllers, and operational costs aside, while unique and different, players have to be there, headset on, and when they leave, they leave. iGaming offers an opportunity for players to have the casino floor in their hands, on their phones and tablets, wherever they are, whenever they choose to play.

TerraZero, founded by visionary CEO Dan Reitzik, stands at the forefront of this transformation, offering groundbreaking solutions that promise to revolutionize the gaming industry. At the heart of TerraZero’s innovation is the Intraverse, an immersive environment that integrates gaming and 3D virtual experiences, setting new

standards for player engagement and industry growth. Since 2022, TerraZero has worked with brands like Fidelity International, PwC, Bacardi’s Angel’s Envy, Estée Lauder Companies, and many others to create immersive experiences for their audiences. This was a major turn for the future of today’s Internet, one where users experience content instead of just consume it.

TerraZero listened to their clients and partners, learned how they could safely utilize their brands and generate revenue across virtual environments, and developed the Intraverse to serve those needs–not just for major brands, but for artists, creators, and now the world of iGaming.

Having recently watched aYouTube interview between Michael Switow of Global One Media Group and Dan Reitzik, CEO of Terrazero Technologies and BIGG Digital Assets (CSE: BIGG | OTCQX: BBKCF | WKN: A2PS9W, we were intrigued and decided we needed a few more answers from him, particularly his comments on the intraverse platform, bridging the gap between traditional iGaming and immersive virtual worlds, aiming to transform online gambling into a social, engaging experience for a

new generation of users.

Here are the questions we put to Dan and his responses below.

Can you tell us about the vision and mission behind TerraZero and how it fits within the broader ecosystem of BIGG Digital Assets?

Dan Reitzik : TerraZero was founded with the mission to transform the way people interact with digital environments. Our vision is to create immersive experiences that transcend traditional gaming, offering players a more engaging and interactive platform. As a part of BIGG Digital Assets, we leverage blockchain technology to ensure secure and transparent gaming experiences, building trust with our users and partners. Our focus is on innovation and collaboration, providing solutions that cater to both consumers and businesses in the iGaming sector.

The Unique Edge of TerraZero

How does TerraZero differentiate itself from other companies in the immersive augmented reality and gaming sectors?

Dan Reitzik: TerraZero stands out by offering a unique blend of immersive experiences, cutting-edge technology, and strategic partnerships. Our Intraverse platform is a game-changer, integrating interactive virtual environments to create a seamless and engaging experience. Unlike traditional gaming environments, the Intraverse provides a sophisticated, immersive world where users can interact with brands, content, and each other in meaningful ways. We prioritize high-quality 3D animations and customizable virtual environments, allowing casino operators to deliver a unique experience to their players.

What technological advancements do you believe are driving the demand for immersive environments in the gaming industry?

Dan Reitzik: The demand for immersive environments is driven by advancements in AR, VR, and blockchain technologies. These innovations enable us to create more realistic and engaging experiences, with gamification, that captivate players. Blockchain enhances security and transparency, which are crucial in building trust with users. As technology continues to evolve, we are committed to staying ahead of the curve, leveraging these advancements to offer unparalleled gaming experiences.

What challenges have you faced in developing and launching the Intraverse platform, and how have you overcome them?

Dan Reitzik: Developing the Intraverse platform came with its set of challenges, primarily around integrating cutting-edge technology in a way that’s accessible and engaging for users. We faced hurdles in creating a seamless user experience that combines traditional gaming elements with threedimensional virtual environments. Our team overcame these challenges by prioritizing user feedback, conducting extensive research, and collaborating with industry experts. This approach allowed us to refine the platform, ensuring it meets the needs and expectations of our audience.

What are the key trends you’re observing in the gaming and iGaming industries, especially concerning Gen Z and Millennials?

Dan Reitzik: Gen Z and Millennials are driving significant changes in the gaming industry. These demographics have grown up with technology and expect gaming experiences that are interactive, social, and immersive.

We’ve observed a shift towards mobile gaming, esports, and social platforms, where players seek community and connectivity. TerraZero’sIntraverse taps into these trends by offering a platform that combines social interaction, gamification, and immersive experiences, catering to the evolving preferences of modern gamers.

There are millions of young people who have grown up playing MMOs and games like Roblox, Fortnite and Minecraft. This is where they’ve spent their money for years, and how they hang out with their friends. These millions of you people now need something more grown-up that connects them to their interests. The Intraverse ecosystem serves this up for them–and connects them to experiences like iGaming and others.

Can you discuss any partnerships or collaborations that have been crucial to TerraZero’s success?

Dan Reitzik: Partnerships are a cornerstone of TerraZero’s strategy. We collaborate with leading technology companies, streaming platforms, leading brands, and industry influencers to enhance

Available games:

Interview with Dan Reitzik

our offerings and expand our reach. These collaborations allow us to integrate new technologies, explore innovative gaming concepts, and create a diverse ecosystem that appeals to a wide range of players. By working with experts across various fields, we ensure that our platform remains at the forefront of the industry.

How do you plan to address the varying regulatory environments in different markets, such as Ontario and the UK?

Dan Reitzik: Navigating regulatory environments is critical to our strategy, especially as we expand into new markets like Ontario and the UK. We have a dedicated compliance team that works closely with regulatory bodies to ensure our platform meets all necessary requirements. This includes adhering to guidelines on player protection, responsible gaming, and data security. Our proactive approach to compliance helps us build credibility and trust, allowing us to operate effectively in diverse regulatory landscapes.

What makes this special is TerraZero helps other operators reach broader audiences. TerraZero is not an operator, and therefore partners with existing licensed and regulated igaming companies to create immersive versions of their casinos, games and social environments. All deposits, KYC, AML and compliance remains in the licensed

partner’s hands, which means their users stay their users. The Intraverse is, simply, a whole new environment to engage with players in new ways.

BIGG Digital Assets, TerraZero’s parent company, also owns Netcoins, one of North America’s oldest regulated crypto exchanges. That, plus the fact that BIGG is publicly traded, means we’re accustomed to compliance needs, audits and following regulations. It’s how good business is done.

What role do you think social media and influencer marketing play in promoting immersive gaming experiences?

Dan Reitzik: Social media and influencer marketing are pivotal in reaching today’s gamers. Platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube allow us to connect with players in authentic ways, showcasing the unique features of the Intraverse. Influencers play a key role in this strategy, as their endorsements lend credibility and attract their followers to our platform. By leveraging social media, we can engage with our audience, drive awareness, and build a community around our gaming experiences.

As a leader in the tech and gaming industries, what core values and leadership principles guide your decision-making?

Dan Reitzik: At TerraZero, our core values include innovation, integrity, and collaboration. These principles guide every decision we make, from product development to business strategy. We prioritize creating a work environment that encourages creativity and teamwork, empowering our team to push boundaries and explore new ideas. As a leader, I believe in leading by example, fostering a culture of transparency and accountability that resonates throughout the organization.

Looking ahead, what are your longterm goals for TerraZero, and how do you envision the company’s role in shaping the future of gaming?

Dan Reitzik: Our long-term goal is to establish TerraZero as a leader in the immersive gaming space. We aim to expand our platform globally, offering innovative solutions that cater to the diverse needs of gamers and operators alike. We continue to innovate, leveraging the latest technologies to create experiences that are not only entertaining but also meaningful. We envision a future where gaming is a powerful tool for connection and creativity, and we are excited to play a pivotal role in shaping that landscape.

In conclusion, TerraZero’s vision for the future of gaming is bold, innovative, and exciting. With its focus on immersive environments, the Intraverse platform offers a unique blend of gaming, social interaction, and ecommerce, setting new standards for player engagement and industry growth.

As TerraZero continues to lead the way, it promises to transform the gaming landscape, creating experiences that are not only entertaining but also meaningful and impactful.

Tax free tips once more Vegas shows the way.

Advisor, mentor, counsellor, Tim is a highly respected consultant to the casino gaming industry, whether land based or on-line, encompassing project management and operational analysis. He is an expert in risk and reward strategiesas well as successfully implementing change culture in several major European operations. Tim also represents and advises a number of key suppliers & manufacturers within the industry.

From dealer to CEO, in the U.K., Europe and North America, Tim has, for over 40 years, pretty much seen it all in Casino gaming. From running slot rooms where he had to frisk for guns to the running of the Ritz Casino in Mayfair London, arguably the most luxurious casino in the world, Tim has never stopped challenging what we think we know about casinos.

Tim is a renowned conference speaker and proud to have been visiting lecturer at the University of West London College of Hospitality and Tourism, as well as a listed industry expert for AlphaSights.

In the end politics always come down to the pound in your pocket, the dollar in pants, in your wallet, pocketbook, portefueille, whatever you want to call it.So, it was not so surprising the see the U.S. Presidential Candidates courting the hospitality workers vote in Vegas. When I first set foot in America back in the 80s I had a swift lesson from my new American friends about tipping, and ever since I’ve always been impressed by the generosity of American patrons towards hospitality staff. I know the systems are different in each country, and that

tax regimes change, but good service deserves to be rewarded. I am a little confused though about the news coming out of Neveda about both Trump and Harris telling voters that they will abolish taxes on tips. I thought there was no personal income tax in the State, but I guess I’ve missed a nuance. Nevertheless, if workers can keep more of their hard earned tips that’s got to be good.

I’ve always felt a little uncomfortable about some of the tipping regimes I’ve worked under, but in the end I always

felt that making sure the patrons had a great experience was an integral part of the job, and I never felt “obliged” to be nice just for the sake of a few dollars more. Where of course the system gets murky is when adealer or waiting staff member are told to be extra nice to some VIP player just because he’s generous when winning. Often of course these can be the most challenging clients when things are not going well for them, hence the encouragement to be extra smiley.

Senior management partakingin the tip pool can cause severeconflict of interest for the smooth running of a gaming floor. When I was a younger man I had great fun working in a lovely old casino on the Belgian coast. I was getting paid to have fun every night, and the ambience was second to none, plus the wages were really good, purely thanks to the high level of tipping.

That is not to say that all the players were generous through their good nature. The old-fashioned tipping tradition was in place where every winning chip placed straight up on a number on Roulette was considered a tip almost by right. All went

very well whilst everyone respected this tradition, but occasionally there would be a player who was rather recalcitrant. If no tips were forthcoming when the player was winning firstly the dealer would loudly thank the player for “Les Personelles”. If tips were still not forthcoming the table inspector or “Chef de Table” would intervene, thanking the player for not forgetting to tip the staff. If still notips came the Shift Manager would havea discrete word with the player, and normally the message would get through. Perhaps the player was not familiar with the unwritten rules of tipping, or a little drunk, or in a bad mood, but normally they would come around.

But I remember there was one time, late at night, or early in the morning, when no amount of cajoling would work, so finally the Casino manager came to the table and told the player to cash in and leave. It didn’t matter of he was a big player, or if he was winning, or even if he was a celebrity or someone of influence, out he went into the cold night air, never to be seen in the casino again. And as the communications between casinos was very good in Belgium, I doubt if he played elsewhere either. But then again, back I those days even the General Manager was in the tip pool, so the tradition had to be maintained at all costs.

Nowadays tipping is far more formalised in most countries, but there is still the feeling that a big player who tips well may get away with behaviour towards the staff which may cross the line of what is acceptable. I take myhat offto the management teams who protect their colleagues at all costs, regardless of the financial impact it may have.

Until the changes made by the introduction of the 2005 gaming act in Great Britain came into force, tipping was not allowed in British casinos, which caused all sorts of problems when players from overseas tried to tip a dealer. Very often great offence would be given when the tip was returned, but thankfully the industry and legislation caught

up with the rest of the world. Now it seems like the most natural thing for a dealer to get tipped, but back in the dark ages traditionalists in the business thought that the world would come to an end and the gates of hell would open up if gratuities were encouraged, but as always everyoneadapted, and we have a system that works well, but perhaps not at the level as it was in Belgium in 1989.

Can you tip a headlight?

I was thinking back the other day to how exciting to was to see luxury vehicles offered as Jackpot prizes on the slots when I worked in the Casino de Montreal in Canada. I’d never seen anything like it, and the pan -

demonium was amazing when one of them was won. And of course, it gave great comedic value when an old lady would suddenly become owner of a bright yellow Chevrolet Camaro Z28 V8 with 275 horsepower. And we knew it wouldn’t be long before the inevitable cry of “Keep your lousy car, gimme the goddam money!” rang throughthe slot floor.

Still, how would you tip the staff if you won a car?

Thailand Aims For Seven Casino Resorts

According to recent media reports, Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra is set to present a comprehensive casino policy statement to the Thai parliament imminently. This proposal outlines the government’s intention to authorize the development of up to seven gaming venues, marking a significant shift in the country’s stance on regulated gambling.

The proposed plan suggests that as many as three of these integrated resorts could be located within the bustling metropolis of Bangkok, the most populous city in Thailand. This strategic decision underscores the government’s belief in the capital’s immense potential as a lucrative hub for casino operations.

The legislative package reportedly includes specific guidelines for the casino licensing process. Each winning bidder for a Bangkok casino license would be required to pay a staggering $3 billion licensing fee, potentially generating a total of $9 billion in new revenue for the Thai government. This fee, while substantial, is notably lower than the cost of developing a new casino hotel on

the Las Vegas Strip and significantly less expensive than some planned projects in New York.

Given the expected long-term return on investment, which typically ranges from the high teens to the low 20s percentage-wise in the gaming industry, the $3 billion licensing fee is likely to attract several global gaming giants. US-based companies such as Las Vegas Sands, MGM Resorts International, and Wynn Resorts, all of which have previously expressed interest in Thailand, may find this opportunity particularly appealing.

The proposed legislation also includes guidelines for casino licenses outside of Bangkok. These venues would carry an initial fee of $1.5 billion, a figure that reflects the government’s desire to ensure a consistent and regulated approach to the industry’s expansion across the country.

The legislative package outlines specific guidelines regarding the composition of these integrated resorts. It stipulates that casinos should cover no more than 10% of the total square footage of an integrated resort, ensuring a diverse range of amenities and

attractions beyond just gaming.

The Thai government’s strategy to permit casino resorts in Bangkok holds broader significance, as it contrasts with the challenges faced by gaming companies in Japan several years ago. Operators such as Sands and Wynn had hoped to secure permits for integrated resorts in Tokyo and Yokohama, Japan’s two largest cities, but eventually abandoned these aspirations due to resistance from those cities.

Thai lawmakers supporting the country’s casino initiative aim to expedite the legislative process, with hopes that Thailand’s first gaming venues will open ahead of MGM Osaka, which is scheduled to debut in 2030. This sense of urgency underscores the government’s determination to position Thailand as a premier destination for integrated resort development in the Asia-Pacific region.

The introduction of regulated casino resorts in Thailand, particularly in Bangkok, holds significant implications for the country’s tourism industry. As the most populous city in the nation, Bangkok’s status as a major tourist hub makes it an attractive location for casino operators.

Beyond the tourism benefits, the proposed casino resorts are expected to generate substantial economic opportunities for Thailand. The $3 billion licensing fee for each Bangkok casino, coupled with the $1.5 billion fee for venues outside the capital, could provide a significant influx of revenue for the government

Singapore Casinos To Be Cashless But No Crypto

The Singapore Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA) has taken a firm stance against the use of cryptocurrencies in the country’s casinos. This decision, driven by concerns over potential money laundering risks, is set to reshape the future of cashless gaming transactions in the city-state.

Singapore’s casinos, namely Marina Bay Sands (MBS) and Resorts World Sentosa, have recently undergone a significant transformation with the implementation of cashless gaming transactions. This shift, enabled by amendments to the Casino Control Act, aims to modernize the gambling experience and improve security by reducing the need for physical cash handling. The move towards cashless systems is expected to streamline operations, increase efficiency, and potentially attract a younger demographic more accustomed to digital payments.

Amid this transition to cashless gaming, the GRA has made it clear that it has no intention of allowing cryptocurrencies to be used as casino chips. According to Minister of State for Social and Family Development, Sun

Xueling, the decision is driven by the inherent money laundering risks associated with digital currencies.

The GRA’s stance on cryptocurrencies aligns with Singapore’s broader efforts to combat financial crimes and the misuse of its financial systems by terrorist and criminal groups. Earlier, the city-state had lowered the threshold for monitoring cash deposits at casinos, further strengthening its antimoney laundering measures.

The shift to cashless gaming presents both opportunities and challenges for Singapore’s casino operators. On the one hand, the technological upgrades required to implement these systems create new revenue streams through partnerships with digital payment providers. However, the ban on cryptocurrencies may disappoint high-rollers or tech-savvy gamblers who prefer the convenience and anonymity of digital currencies.

While Singapore has taken a firm stance against the use of cryptocurrencies in its casinos, the regulatory landscape for crypto gambling varies across different countries. In the United States, the legality of online gam -

bling, including crypto transactions, is determined at the state level, with many states allowing offshore casinos to serve their residents. Similarly, in the United Kingdom and Canada, offshore crypto casinos are legally permitted to cater to local players, subject to the respective gambling commissions’ regulations.

In contrast to Singapore’s approach, some Caribbean nations, such as Curacao, have actively embraced the crypto gambling industry. These jurisdictions offer a highly accommodating regulatory environment, actively licensing crypto-based casinos and catering to a global customer base.

The GRA’s decision to prohibit the use of cryptocurrencies in Singapore’s casinos reflects the government’s commitment to striking a balance between fostering innovation in the gambling industry and mitigating the risks associated with emerging financial technologies. By prioritizing anti-money laundering measures, the authorities aim to maintain the integrity and reputation of Singapore’s gambling sector.

Norfolk To Have Casino Resort With Boyd Gaming

The city of Norfolk, Virginia, after years of delays and partnership changes, the Pamunkey Indian Tribe and Boyd Gaming have secured the necessary approvals to move forward with their ambitious plans for a casino resort.

The Norfolk casino project, previously known as the HeadWaters Resort & Casino, has undergone a significant shift. The Pamunkey Indian Tribe, the original developer, has now partnered with Boyd Gaming.

The Pamunkey Indian Tribe’s previous partnership with Tennessee investor Jon Yarbrough has come to an amicable end. Yarbrough, the founder of casino game producer Video Gaming Technologies, was originally slated to be the tribe’s corporate partner. However, the city and developers faced multiple delays in the project’s design and proposed two-phase construction, necessitating a change in direction.

The Pamunkey Indian Tribe has now turned to Boyd Gaming, a publicly traded, 49-year-old company with a strong presence in the casino industry. The tribe’s Chief, Robert Gray, expressed excitement about the new partnership, citing Boyd Gaming’s commitment to the community, shared values, and ability to “bring us across the finish line in time.”

The Norfolk casino project will now unfold in two distinct phases, with a temporary casino opening first, followed by

the construction of a permanent resort.

According to the development agreement, the temporary casino is expected to be operational by November 2025, meeting the state’s deadline for the establishment of a casino in Norfolk. Construction on this “transitional casino” is set to begin in late February 2025 and be completed by mid-October 2025, with an opening targeted for November 5, 2025.

The permanent casino resort, which will be the primary focus of the project, is slated to commence construction in mid-January 2025 and be completed by August 2027. The grand opening of this permanent facility is planned for the following month, September 2027.

The resort will feature a 200-room hotel, offering visitors a luxurious and comfortable stay. Additionally, it will boast 13,000 square feet of meeting space, catering to conferences, events, and gatherings.

The casino itself will be a significant draw, with 1,500 slot machines and 50 table games. Complementing the gaming experience, the resort will also offer eight restaurants and bars.

To cater to the well-being of its guests, the resort will feature a 4,000-squarefoot spa and gym, offering a range of rejuvenating treatments and fitness facilities.

During the construction phase, the project is estimated to have a local economic impact of $510 million, generating 2,850 temporary construction jobs and $173 million in salaries and wages.

Once the permanent casino resort is operational, the economic impact is projected to reach $2.9 billion, with 850 permanent jobs and $583 million in salaries and wages.

The Pamunkey Indian Tribe and Boyd Gaming have expressed a strong commitment to the local community. This includes hiring local veterans, who are in abundant supply in the Hampton Roads region, as well as investing in key priorities that will benefit the community for years to come.

The Norfolk casino project has faced its fair share of challenges, including delays and design disputes. However, the new partnership between the Pamunkey Indian Tribe and Boyd Gaming is determined to overcome these obstacles and deliver the project on time.

Maine Sports Betting Revenue Plunges 40%

The sports betting landscape in Maine has experienced a rollercoaster ride in recent months, with the state’s two legal operators, DraftKings and Caesars, witnessing a significant dip in their performance in August. After an unexpected surge in July, the Pine Tree State’s sports betting figures have come crashing down, shedding nearly 17% of the handle and over 40% in revenue compared to the previous month.

The Maine Gambling Control Unit (MGCU) has reported that the state’s sports betting operators saw a total handle of $35.6 million in August, a substantial drop from the $42.7 million recorded in July. This decline in wagers can be attributed to the natural ebb and flow of the sports calendar, with the absence of major events like the Olympics and the NFL preseason, which had driven the July spike.

Alongside the drop in handle, the op-

erators also experienced a significant decline in revenue. After reporting a robust $6 million in gross revenue in July, the figures plummeted to just $3.5 million in August. This sharp decline can be partially explained by the normalization of the hold rate, which had reached an abnormally high 15% in July, compared to the more typical 9.8% seen in August.

revenue from the industry amounting to just $355,000, a significant drop from the $600,000 generated in July.

Despite the overall downturn, DraftKings continues to dominate the Maine sports betting market, accounting for a staggering 84% of the total handle in August. Caesars, the state’s other legal operator, also saw its action drop, but its $5.5 million handle was only 6.7% lower than the previous month.

The decline in sports betting performance has had a direct impact on the state’s General Fund, with August’s tax

The contraction observed in August is not entirely unexpected, as the sports betting industry typically experiences a summer slowdown. However, with the return of college football and the NFL, industry experts anticipate a resurgence in betting activity in the coming months. Maine’s lack of professional sports teams may not be a hindrance, as sportsbooks generally see their biggest returns during the football season, regardless of the state’s sports landscape.

Maine’s sports betting market has been operational since December 2021, with DraftKings and Caesars as the sole legal operators. The state’s regulatory framework has been praised for its balanced approach, fostering a competitive environment while ensuring consumer protection.

MGM Commits To Osaka Resort

Japan for years has been seen as the “holy grail” of gaming, with the potential for up to $40 billion in annual gross revenues. When the country’s Integrated Resort (IR) development bill was approved in 2018, global operators rushed to secure one of the casino licenses. Among them was MGM Resorts International, which emerged victorious in its bid for the Osaka market. However, the path to realizing this ambitious project has not been without its challenges.

More than a year after winning the sole casino license in Japan, MGM Resorts has demonstrated its steadfast commitment to the Osaka IR project. In a recent earnings call, MGM’s president and CEO, Bill Hornbuckle, announced that the company has forfeited its right to withdraw from the ¥1.27 trillion (£6.72 billion/€8 billion/$8.89 billion) venture without penalty. This decision signals MGM’s determination to see the project through, despite the obstacles that have emerged along the way.

The Osaka IR project has faced a series of delays, the first of which was the COVID-19 pandemic. When the IR development bill was approved in 2018, the Japanese government had planned to offer three casino licenses in strategic locations around the country, with more to come after seven years. However, the pandemic caused global interest in Japan’s gaming market to stall, and the selection process was subsequently delayed.

In the end, only two operators – MGM in Osaka and Casinos Austria in Nagasaki – submitted bids for the available licenses, with MGM being the sole recipient of the go-ahead to proceed with its project.

The original agreement between MGM and its Japanese partner, Orix Corporation, included an escape clause that allowed the operator to back out of the project by September 2026 under certain conditions. These conditions included the failure of tourism to recover to pre-COVID levels, unfavorable financing terms, and an initial investment exceeding ¥1.27 trillion.

Unfortunately for MGM, the project has already met the latter benchmark, with the rise in construction costs pushing the initial investment to ¥1.27 trillion, up from the previously estimated ¥1.08 trillion. By waiving its opportunity to withdraw, MGM has demonstrated its unwavering commitment to the Osaka IR project.

With the escape clause now surrendered, MGM and Orix, who each own a 40% stake in the Osaka IR KK operator, are full steam ahead in their preparations for the casino resort. Prep work on the 494-square-meter site on Yumeshima, a man-made island in Osaka Bay, is set to begin in September.

The resort, which is slated to open in the middle of 2030, will include Japan’s first casino, as well as 2,500 hotel

rooms, a convention center, a shopping mall, and other amenities. MGM Osaka is projected to generate ¥520 billion in annual gross revenues, with approximately 80% of that coming from gaming operations.

One of the latest challenges facing the Osaka IR project is the concurrent development of facilities for the 2025 World Expo, which will also be held on Yumeshima. Expo organizers are concerned that the construction work on the MGM Osaka project will disrupt the event with noise and other environmental impacts.

To address this issue, the expo organizers have asked MGM to suspend construction for the duration of the sixmonth event. However, this would add more than ¥10 billion to MGM’s already ballooning costs. Local media reports suggest that Osaka Governor Hirofumi Yoshimura is working to broker a compromise, proposing a two-month pause during the Japan expo.

In addition to the logistical hurdles, the Osaka IR project must also navigate a complex regulatory landscape. Japan’s gaming industry is heavily regulated, with strict rules and guidelines governing everything from licensing to operations. MGM and its partners will need to ensure strict compliance with these regulations to maintain their license and continue the development of the resort.

Star Entertainments Future Hangs In The Balance

Star Entertainment Group has confirmed that it remains in discussions with various stakeholders, including state governments, regulators, and lenders, to address its pressing financial situation. The company acknowledged that it is not yet in a position to release its fiscal year 2024 financial results, as it continues to work with these key players to find a viable path forward.

As part of these ongoing discussions, the company has reportedly considered the application of safe harbour provisions under the Corporations Act 2001 (Cth). These provisions are designed to provide directors with protections against personal debt liability, allowing them to pursue restructuring efforts rather than placing the company into administration.

In a bid to alleviate its financial woes, Star Entertainment Group has approached the state governments of New South Wales and Queensland, seeking tax relief and other forms of assistance.

The New South Wales government, however, has reportedly rejected any further

concessions, having already postponed a substantial increase in poker machine tax and granted an extension for the introduction of mandatory cashless gaming.

The company’s financial predicament has been exacerbated by a series of regulatory setbacks, including a second finding of unsuitability in New South Wales, the home of its flagship property, The Star Sydney. This latest development has further eroded the trust and confidence of the authorities and the public in the company’s ability to operate its gaming facilities responsibly.

In addition to the regulatory hurdles, Star Entertainment Group has also had to contend with a softer domestic gaming market, which has been affected by broader economic tightness. This shift in consumer spending patterns has further compounded the company’s financial woes, as it grapples with declining revenue and profitability.

The absence of international high rollers, a crucial segment of Star Entertain-

ment Group’s customer base, has also contributed to its financial difficulties. The ongoing travel restrictions and economic uncertainties have resulted in a significant reduction in the influx of these high-spending patrons, further exacerbating the company’s revenue challenges.

Star Entertainment Group has also been focused on the development of its AU$3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf Brisbane project, which was recently celebrated with a grand opening. This ambitious project, seen as a critical piece of tourism infrastructure for the city, has been a significant investment for the company and is seen as a potential bright spot in its portfolio.

While the New South Wales government has remained steadfast in its refusal to provide further relief, the Queensland state government is reportedly considering some form of assistance for Star Entertainment Group, given the importance of the Queen’s Wharf Brisbane development to the state’s tourism industry.

Sweden Post $639 Million In Gambling Revenues

The online gambling sector in Sweden has witnessed major growth in Q2 of this year, driving the nation’s overall gaming revenue to rise in the second quarter. According to the latest industry figures, the combined revenue from online and land-based gaming operations reached SEK6.89 billion (approximately $639 million) during the April-June period.

The Swedish Gambling Authority (Spelinspektionen) recently unveiled comprehensive data that sheds light on the country’s growing gaming industry.

The online gambling segment has emerged as the undisputed powerhouse, propelling the industry’s growth to new heights. During the second quarter, online casino and betting activities

generated SEK4.47 billion ($415 million) in revenue, accounting for a 65% of the total gaming revenue.

Despite the surge in online gambling, traditional land-based gaming operations have managed to maintain their foothold in the Swedish market. Casinos, gaming halls, and other brickand-mortar establishments generated a combined revenue of SEK2.42 billion ($225 million) during the second quarter, representing 35% of the total gaming revenue.

To remain competitive in the face of online gaming’s rapid ascent, landbased operators have been proactive in embracing digital technologies and enhancing their offerings. Many have introduced online platforms, mobile apps,

and innovative gaming experiences to cater to the evolving preferences of Swedish players.

The Swedish government has played a pivotal role in shaping the country’s gaming industry, fostering a regulatory environment that promotes responsible gaming practices while enabling sustainable growth.

The Swedish Gambling Act, which came into effect in 2019, established a robust legal framework for the regulation of gambling activities in the country. This comprehensive legislation aims to protect consumers, prevent problem gambling, and ensure fair and transparent operations within the industry.

Pragmatic Play Heads To Sin City

Pragmatic Play has launched Big Bass Vegas Double Down Deluxe, where the iconic fisherman tackles the entertainment capital of the world.

Set against the neon-lit backdrop of Vegas, this vibrant 5×3 slot introduces a new bonus game feature to the popular Big Bass series.

Landing two scatters in the base game gives a random chance to win a third. If the scatters can move down a position without leaving the reels, a respin is triggered. Alternatively, a random hook can pull one of the reels up to reveal another scatter.

Hitting three or more scatters triggers the bonus game with 15-25 free spins.

During the feature, blue and red fisherman wilds award all money symbols on the screen and level up two different cash trails. 10 extra free spins and a money symbol multiplier of 2x, 3x, and finally 10x are awarded after every fourth fisherman is collected in either trail.

Money symbols carry random values of up to 5,000x the player’s bet, with a random bazooka feature bringing money symbols into view if the fisherman lands without any on the grid. If money symbols appear without a fisherman, one can be randomly hooked in as well.

Players in select markets will have a choice of bonus buys, with super free spins requiring only three fisherman

wilds to be collected during the feature to level up a cash trail.

Big Bass Vegas Double Down Deluxe is the latest addition to Pragmatic Play’s award-winning Slots portfolio, following recent releases Mustang Gold Megaways™ and Mystery Mice.

Irina Cornides, Chief Operating Officer at Pragmatic Play, said: “Big Bass Vegas Double Down Deluxe extends an iconic game series from Pragmatic Play, taking players on an exciting journey to Vegas where two cash trails in the bonus game can help to reel in big wins.”

Entain Ahead Of H2 Expectations

Entain, the giant online and betting company has stated that its online net gaming revenue has grown at a pace that exceeds initial expectations during the second half of the year so far. This positive momentum builds upon the strong performance witnessed in the second quarter, underscoring the company’s ability to navigate the dynamic industry landscape and deliver consistent results for its stakeholders, the company said.

The company’s international and Central and Eastern European operations have continued to exhibit robust growth, complementing the resurgence witnessed in its core U.K. and Irish online business.

“The diversity of our brands and geographic reach has been a key differentiator for Entain,” commented the company’s spokesperson. “As consumer preferences and market dynamics evolve, our ability to cater to a wide range of customer segments has enabled us to capitalize on emerging opportunities and maintain our competitive edge.”

While the online segment has been the primary growth driver, Entain’s retail performance across regions has also remained in line with expectations.

“Our retail operations have demonstrated remarkable resilience, reflecting the strong customer loyalty and the continued relevance of the in-person betting and gaming experience,” the spokesperson added. “As we navigate the post-pandemic landscape, we remain committed to delivering a seamless and engaging experience for our customers, regardless of the channel they prefer.”

One of the key challenges facing the betting and gambling industry has been the evolving regulatory landscape, with various markets implementing stricter measures to ensure responsible gambling practices. Entain has proactively addressed these changes, leveraging its technological capabilities and customer-centric approach to stay ahead of the curve.

“Regulatory compliance has been a top priority for us, and we have invested heavily in developing robust systems and processes to ensure that our opera-

tions adhere to the highest standards of responsible gambling,” the spokesperson explained. “By embracing a culture of responsible innovation, we have been able to maintain the trust of our customers and regulators alike, positioning us for long-term success in a rapidly evolving industry.

As Entain prepares to release its thirdquarter update on October 17th, the company is optimistic about its prospects for the remainder of the year and beyond. With the positive momentum carried forward from the first half, Entain is well-positioned to navigate the industry’s challenges and capitalize on emerging opportunities.

“While the industry landscape remains dynamic, we are confident in our ability to deliver sustained growth and value for our shareholders,” the spokesperson stated. “Our strategic focus on innovation, responsible gambling, and customer-centricity will continue to be the driving forces behind our success, as we work to solidify our position as a leading player in the global betting and gaming market.”

Will Genting Highlands Casino Face Closure if PAS Wins?

With the Malaysian Islamic Party (PAS) emerging as a significant force in the country’s recent elections. One of the key campaign promises made by PAS is to shut down all gambling premises, including the iconic Genting Highlands casino, if the party secures control of the Pahang state government.

PAS, the Parti Islam Se-Malaysia (PanMalaysian Islamic Party), has long been a dominant player in Malaysian politics, advocating for a more conservative and Islamic-centric approach to governance. In the aftermath of the 2022 general election, PAS emerged as the single largest party in the Malay -

sian parliament, solidifying its position as a political force to be reckoned with.

One of the party’s core tenets is its staunch opposition to gambling, which it views as a social ill that must be eradicated. Andansura Rabu, the PAS deputy commissioner for Pahang, has been vocal about the party’s intention to shut down all gambling premises in the state, including the Genting Highlands casino, if they win the next state election.

The Genting Highlands casino, located in the Pahang state, is a renowned destination that attracts visitors from across Southeast Asia and beyond. As

the largest casino in the region, it has been a significant contributor to the Malaysian economy, generating an estimated RM5 billion (approximately $1.5 billion) in annual revenue for the government before the COVID-19 pandemic.

The resort’s sheer size and prominence have made it a prime target for PAS’s anti-gambling crusade. Andansura Rabu has stated that “anything that can be harmful to our society needs to be eradicated together, including gambling,” emphasizing the party’s unwavering stance on the issue.

The potential closure of the Genting Highlands casino is not a straightforward matter, as it involves navigating the complex legal landscape in Malaysia. While PAS may win the Pahang state election and form the government, the power to shut down the casino may not entirely be in their hands.

According to Andansura Rabu, the issue would need to be referred to and handled in accordance with the laws and constitution. He acknowledged that the federal government controls casino and gaming permits in Malaysia and strictly regulates the gaming sector. This means that even if PAS achieves victory in Pahang, they may face challenges in directly shutting down the Genting Highlands casino, as the decision could ultimately require a federal-level intervention.

The potential closure of the Genting Highlands casino would have significant economic implications for the state of Pahang. As the resort’s largest employer and a significant contributor to the local economy, its shutdown would undoubtedly create ripple effects across various industries, from tourism to hospitality.

The Genting Group, the conglomerate that owns and operates the Genting Highlands resort, has invested heavily in the region over the years, transforming it into a premier destination for both local and international visitors. The loss of this revenue stream could be a major blow to Pahang’s economic growth and development.

The PAS-led efforts to shut down the Genting Highlands casino extend beyond the confines of Pahang. If successful, it could set a precedent for

the party’s influence on the broader gaming industry in Malaysia.

Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has already indicated that there will not be a second casino in the country, signalling a shift towards a more conservative approach to gambling. The growing influence of PAS, combined with the federal government’s stance, could potentially lead to a tightening of regulations and further restrictions on the gaming sector across Malaysia.

PAS’s campaign to eradicate gambling in Pahang is not solely driven by political calculations; it is also rooted in the party’s interpretation of religious teachings. Andansura Rabu has emphasized that “all religions do not allow gambling,” suggesting that the issue transcends mere social concerns and is deeply tied to the party’s religious convictions.

The Fate of Genting Highlands Malaysia

The public’s perception of gambling and its alignment with PAS’s stance will play a crucial role in the party’s ability to garner support for its antigambling agenda. If the people of Pahang share PAS’s views on the moral and social implications of gambling, the party may find it easier to rally support for its proposed actions.

While PAS’s determination to shut down the Genting Highlands casino is clear, the party may face significant legal and political challenges in executing this plan. The Genting Group, as the operator of the resort, may mount a robust legal defense to protect its interests and the significant investments it has made in the region.

Furthermore, the potential closure of the casino could trigger a backlash from both local and international stakeholders who rely on the resort’s economic and tourism benefits. The federal government’s involvement in

the regulation of the gaming industry may also pose obstacles for PAS’s state-level ambitions.

The Genting Highlands casino is not just a local attraction; it is a significant draw for international tourists, contributing to Malaysia’s overall tourism industry. The potential closure of this iconic destination could have farreaching consequences for the country’s reputation as a tourist-friendly destination.

The loss of the Genting Highlands casino could lead to a decline in visitor numbers, and this in turn, could impact the broader tourism ecosystem, including hotels, restaurants, and other ancillary businesses that rely on the influx of visitors to the region.

As the political battle over the Genting Highlands casino unfolds, there may be a need for compromise and open dialogue between the various

stakeholders involved. PAS’s religious and moral concerns must be balanced against the economic realities and the potential impact on the local and national economy.

The fate of the Genting Highlands casino remains uncertain as the 2024 state election in Pahang approaches. PAS’s unwavering stance on gambling, combined with its growing political clout, has raised significant concerns among casino industry stakeholders.

While the party’s ability to directly shut down the casino may be constrained by legal and constitutional limitations, its influence could still have far-reaching consequences for the gaming industry in Malaysia. The outcome of the Pahang election and the subsequent actions taken by PAS will undoubtedly shape the future of the Genting Highlands resort and the broader landscape of the country’s gambling sector.
