A note from the editor
Lana Thompson - Editor in Chief
Barcelona is calling with latest updates
Welcome to the last edition for 2024 of the Infinity Gaming Magazine and can you believe we are nearing the end of the year! But what that means is we are almost there for the 18th annual International Gaming Awards (IGA), with just a few weeks to go.
With the lucky finalists announced and being almost sold out and certainly will be before 2025, if you have not booked you only have a few days left to join us at the biggest and certainly the most important awards event of the year, this time held at the superb Intercontinental Hotel in Barcelona.
We know here at Clever Duck Media it is a tough time for the marketing teams from so many companies with Christmas and New Year so close to the ICE Gaming Expo and want to offer a huge
well done to the all for working so hard at what is normally a relaxing time of the year.
Of course none of this is possible without our wonderful sponsors who help us raise much needed funds for deserving charities so thank you, Digitain, Betconstruct, Pragmatic Play, 1xBet, Spribe, Alea, Light & Wonder, IGT, Gamomat, Videoslots, Delasport, SOFTSWISS, BGaming, BETER and High Roller.
Now then, to the magazine, inside we have some great interviews with Nick Khin the President IGT Global Gaming, a review of how BGaming has done over the year and also Pragmatic Play looking at 2024 and beyond.
So all that is left for me to say is have a wonderful festive holiday and super New Year and will see you all in Barcelona for the most important awards event of the year, oh and good luck to all your finalists.

END OF YEAR REVIEW
Thank you for talking to the Infinity Gaming Magazine, as we near the end of 2024, we wanted to talk to about the year in general for IGT, can you tell us what was the targets for IGT in 2024 and have those been achieved?
This has been an exciting year for IGT. We’ve made significant progress against our goals and announced the outcome of our evaluation of strategic alternatives for our Global Gaming and Digital business segments. In North America, the launch of Tiger and Dragon slots on the PeakCurve49 and Whitney Houston Slots on the SkyRise cabinet were among our most celebrated product launches. Tiger and Dragon continues to perform above house and zone averages and was named “Best Slot Product” in the 2025 GGB Gaming & Technology Awards. Whitney Houston Slots was the launch title for our SkyRise cabinet and was the #1 widearea progressive theme in the EilersFantini Report for several consecutive months. In Canada we delivered a leading share of VLT units and launched our second omnichannel wide-area progressive jackpot product, Money Mania. This year in EMEA, we became the first supplier to deploy a historical horse racing (HHR) game outside of the U.S. and delivered ourPeakBarTop cabinets across the Netherlands. In LatAm, our award-winning multi-level progressives (MLP) games continue to deliver strong performance results and our Floor Manager solution has proven to help our customers optimize their gaming floors.
The company was initially founded in May 2022, by Jan Svendsen, and we really started to staff up from Q2 2023. We are proud of what we have achieved in a short time span.
There are now so many exhibitions during the year, more than ever, can you tell us maybe the top three the company attends and what successes do you see from them?
IGT participates in trade shows and events in gaming markets around the world and each one holds its own strategic importance. Each year, G2E and ICE are our largest shows in terms of the number of games and solutions that we display, and the volume of customer meetings we hold. We also have a large, cross-functional contingency of employees at these events. There are also quite a few medium to smallsized shows that are important to IGT and our customers. The Indian Gaming Tradeshow and Convention, G2E Asia, The Australasian Gaming Show and the Balkin Entertainment Expo, for example – these are just some of the tribal gaming and regional showsthat help drive the business and serve as great opportunities to connect with our customers.
What would you highlight as the most memorable for the company in 2024?
The most memorable event for IGT in 2024 was the July announcement that IGT and Everi Holdings entered into definitive agreements whereby IGT’s Gaming & Digital business and Everi
will be simultaneously acquired byApollo Global Management, Inc. Since then, we have been working to complete that deal byQ3 2025as we position IGT for a successful future. In terms of the day-to-day business, the continued success of our premium MLP portfolio is certainly a high point. Mystery of the Lamp won “Top-Performing New Premium Game” in the EKG Slot Awards and Tiger and Dragon has proven to be an award-winning, standout game. This year was also a banner year for our GameAce ETG solution. With more than 200 units in the field, GameAce currently reigns as the highest-performing
auto roulette solution in the marketbased on win per unit. We’ve developed the product for peak flexibility, allowing for live, RNG and hybrid gameplay and have refined nearly every aspect of the player experience. G2E was another hallmark event for IGT in 2024. We dedicated a large portion of our booth to celebrating both the legacy and future of the Wheel of Fortune game franchise and debuted 11 new Wheel of Fortune slot games, three new Wheel of Fortune cabinets and Wheel of Fortune content across video poker, ETG and video lottery terminals (VLT). We also revealed the evolution of our award-winning casino management system (CMS), IGT
ADVANTAGE X and a new cabinet, the Sierra27.
Over the year is there any major technology advancements that you have been able to offer your customers that you would like to tell us about?
IGT has made advancements across all our product lines over the last 12 months. One advancement that I am particularly excited about is the launch of IGT ADVANTAGE X casino management system. Significant time and R&D investments were made to ensure that the solution is built to capture the
growth opportunities of today and the future. The CMS is built with an open API to ensure our customers can personalize their deployments and leverage emerging technologies such as AI. Furthermore, its architecture allows operators to capture real-time data and turn it into actionable events. For example, a guest may end a carded play session, and the system can almost immediately trigger a personalized offer or message. The benefits and features of this next-generation system are many and we’re very excited to introduce it to operators for on-premise and cloud-based deployments.
Is there any new regions the company are working in and or any new partnerships the company have forged in 2024?
As a global company, IGT regularly evaluatesmarket opportunities around the world. In many ways, defending and growing positions of leadership is just as important as growing our presence into new segments. In terms of growth this year, we’ve focused our attention on increasing our presence in markets such as Spain, Eastern Europe and LatAm, as well as in specialty segments such as HHR, Class II and ETG. Our ICE 2025 portfolio will be anchored in many of the products and solutions that we’ve designed for these markets.
As we near 2025, what are the companies aims and targets for the forthcoming year?
In 2025 we’ll focus on making progress against our growth plan and targets. We’ve developed a dynamic, marketattuned product roadmap and we look forward to getting those products on our customers’ gaming floors. 2025 will mark the official kick-off of our latest, 10-year contract with Sony to leverage the Wheel of Fortune brand. We have big plans for Wheel of Fortune across the enterprise and we look forward to starting that in Q1 with the rollout
of Wheel of Fortune Video Poker and Wheel of Fortune Cash Link Big Money. And of course, Apollo’s acquisition of IGT’s Global Gaming and Digital organizations is expected to be complete in 2025, which will bringnew opportunities.
For the first time the 2025 ICE Gaming Expo will be in Barcelona, what are the companies thoughts on this?
The IGT team looks forward to connecting with our customers at ICE in Barcelona. With a new venue can come new energy and new interest, and I think both elements will contribute to the success of the event.
Do you think the ICE Barcelona will be bigger than in London?
I think ICE Barcelona will draw significant interest and attendance given the new host city. I’ve chatted with many customers in North America who plan
to make the trip in January, in addition to our international customers who attend the event each year.
What does the company have in store for visitors to ICE 2025 that you can tell us about?
We’’ll showcase many products that will make their international trade show debut at ICE, most notably our premium MLP, Tiger and Dragon. We’ll demonstrate Tiger and Dragon on the PeakCurve49 cabinet, and as part of our IGT UNITE bundles for Eastern Europe. We also plan to showcase our Diamond Mania AWP game for Spain, the new Sierra27 cabinet and our first-ever version of Game King video poker developed specifically for the UK-B1 market. ICE will be the international debut for our Wheel of Fortune ETG standalone game for GameAce – this product received a lot of attention and positive feedback in our G2E product demonstrations. As always, we’ll have products on stand representing the depth and breadth of
our portfolio, including casino systems technology via IGT ADVANTAGE X.
Apart from the ICE Show, what is the company looking forward to in 2025?
IGT has a lot to look forward to in 2025. We have strong product roadmaps across all of our product verticals and we are excited to get our latest solutions in the field and in front of players. We are very focused and determined on growing our video market share globally and doing this while maintaining our leadership in product categories such as video poker, VLT and CDS. We are also looking to build our footprint in some of the specialty segments such as ETG and HHR. Additionally, I believe 2025 will be a banner year for IGT ADVANTAGE X as it can significantly help operators in all geographies streamline floor performanceand leverage the possibilities of data, AI and other cutting-edge technologies.

Interview with
A LOOK BACK AT 2024 & BEYOND
Thank you for talking to the Infinity Gaming Magazine, as we near the end of 2024, we wanted to talk to about the year in general for BGaming, can you tell us what were the targets for BGaming in 2024 and have those been achieved?
This year has been very productive for us, even though we faced some challenges along the way. As planned, BGaming successfully entered new markets like Slovakia, Switzerland, Portugal, and others, while also expanding significantly in the ones we were already active in.
We made a strong statement on the product side, releasinga lot of games, including slots and casual ones. One of the highlights was Aztec Clusters, a fully data-driven game that pushed the boundaries of what we can do. Another milestone was the launch of the branded slot Snoop Dogg Dollars, which we’re especially proud of.
In addition to our games, we made significant progress in developing BGaming promotional tools, which help our partners engage their players more effectively.
There are now so many exhibitions during the year, more than ever, can you tell us maybe the top three the company attends and what successes do you see from them?
Yes, there have been so many exhibitions this year! For us, the ones where we had a booth were truly memorable because they allowed us to combine business with creativity. We continued our “When Art Meets Gaming” project, where we collaborate with local artists, and also managed to support donation initiatives in two countries.
For ICE London, we teamed up with London-based graffiti artist Mr. Cenz, bringing his unique style to BGaming booth. At SiGMA Americas, we collaborated with Bruno Smoky and Shalak Attack, a dynamic Brazilian duo known for blending vibrant cultural and artistic influences. During this event, BGaming also supported the A7MA Galeria Institute in São Paulo, Brazil, which nurtures children’s creative talents.
For SBC Summit Lisbon 2024, we partnered with renowned Portuguese muralist Gonçalo MAR to create a beautiful floral artwork. Additionally, we supported a biodiversity education
program in Lisbon aimed at developing children’s artistic skills and fostering community spirit.
What would you highlight as the most memorable for the company in 2024?
It’s hard to sum up all the incredible moments and releases from 2024 in just a few sentences, but I’ll do my best! This year was full of experiments and achievements for BGaming.
It all started with the launch of Aztec Clusters, our first fully data-driven game developed in collaboration with Casinolytics. Another big milestone was when our co-CPO, Yulia Alekseeva, won Product Manager of the Year at the CasinoBeats Developer Awards 2024.
We also hosted our very first private client event in Amsterdam at the iconic Circuit Zandvoort, a Formula 1 hotspot, where luxury and laid-back vibes came together, giving everyone a chance to connect and unwind in style.
BGaming CEO, Marina, made us incredibly proud by winning Leader of the Year at the SBC Awards 2024. On top of that, we released our first-ever celeb-
rity game, Snoop Dogg Dollars, created together with Roobet and Casinolytics, which was a huge hit.
Finally, we capped off the year by being named Best Game Studio of 2024 at the SiGMA Europe Awards. I think this award perfectly reflects the hard work and high standards we’ve upheld throughout the year. It’s been a fantastic journey, and we’re excited for what’s next!
In terms of staffing and management, has the company increased the employee numbers and any promotions during the year you
can tell us about?
was a fantastic year for growth at BGaming — we welcomed around 80 new BGamers to our team! Beyond expanding our team, we focused on creating an engaging and supportive environment for everyone. Regular team-building activities in the cities where our main offices are located have become a staple, helping us strengthen connections and foster a positive atmosphere.
One of the year’s highlights was our annual BGaming Hackathon, which has grown into a much-anticipated tradition. This 48-hour creative marathon
brought together BGamers to brainstorm, design, and develop innovative gaming solutions and products to drive BGaming’s growth. The event was full of energy, creativity, and collaboration, showcasing the talent and passion of our people.
Even during busy exhibition trips, we make it a priority to spend time together as a team. We always set aside a day to relax, reflect on our successes at the event, and enjoy each other’s company.
At BGaming, we believe that happy employees are the key to our success, and we remain committed to building a workplace where every BGamer feels valued and inspired!
Over the year is there any major technology advancements that you have been able to offer your customers that you would like to tell us?
This year, we’ve made significant strides in enhancing the technology we offer our customers, especially in the area of promotional tools. One major development has been the launch of B-Rush Challenges. This tool hosts in-game peer-to-peer competitions for players, streamers, and influencers, redefining engagement by bringing back old players and attracting new ones with ease. The best part is that the plug-and-play widget integrates seamlessly with our existing games, requiring no extra effort or technical support.
We also recently released the BGaming Loyalty Tool, which rewards players for their consistent play and engagement. The system tracks progress in real-time, with meaningful milestones to keep players motivated. This focus on longterm satisfaction rather than just shortterm rewards is something we’re really proud of.
Additionally, we’ve made improvements to our BGaming Drop campaigns
BGaming Exclusive Interview
this year. We understand how crucial it is for our partners to retain and bring players back into the game, so we’ve worked hard to create innovative tools to boost player engagement alongside our games.
Is there any new regions the company are working in and or any new partnerships the company have forged in 2024?
This year, we’ve expanded into several new markets and forged some key partnerships. BGaming made its debut in Argentina through a partnership with the country’s largest casino chain, Casino Club. We also signed a significant multi-brand content deal with Premier Bet, a licensed operator in Africa, marking our entry into that growing market.
In Europe, we launched our games in Slovakia with a landmark content agreement with TIPOS, the state lottery operator. Additionally, we entered the Armenian market by teaming up with leading online gaming operator Adjarabet, and we’ve also made our mark in Switzerland through a partnership with the popular online casino 7 Melons. BGaming entered Lithuania with Uniclub, a well-known casino and sports betting platform, and expanded further into Portugal with Solverde.
Moreover, we achieved another important milestone by certifying our games in Peru and Italy, which opens up even more opportunities for us in these regions.
For the first time the 2025 ICE Gaming Expo will be in Barcelona. Do you think it will be bigger than in London?
I believe the 2025 ICE Gaming Expo in Barcelona will definitely be different from the ones held in London. With a new location, fresh narratives, and a bigger scale, it’s sure to set a new direction for ICE. However, we’ll be able to
draw more concrete conclusions about the event once it’s over. In the meantime, we’d love to invite everyone to visit the BGaming booth, 2E22!
What does the company have in store for visitors to ICE 2025?
In 2025, we’ll continue our creative When Art Meets Gaming project, collaborating with talented artists from around the world to showcase their unique visions of BGaming’s iconic game characters. For ICE 2025, we’re excited to be working with Spanish muralist Núria Toll, whose artwork brings nature into urban spaces through beautiful representations of wildlife and flora. I’m sure you’ll be amazed by how she reimagines our game heroes in her distinctive style!
In addition to this, we’ll be unveiling our latest game titles and services, and we’ll share more details with you very soon. We can’t wait to see you at the event and reveal what we’ve been working on!

Las Vegas Strip Revenues Show Worrying Decline
In October, the total GGR for the state of Nevada reached approximately $1.28 billion, reflecting a slight year-over-year decline of just over 2%. However, the Las Vegas Strip’s performance was particularly striking, with a total GGR of $692 million. This figure not only represents a 3% drop compared to the previous year but also highlights a troubling pattern as the Strip grapples with ongoing revenue challenges.
The Las Vegas Strip has now experienced four consecutive months of year-over-year revenue declines, the Strip has recorded a decline of more than 6% in GGR.
The revenue breakdown for October reveals a mixed performance between slot machines and table games. Slot machine revenue saw a modest increase of 5.5%, totalling $428.3 million. In contrast, table games faced significant challenges, with a decline of 14.5%. Notably, baccarat suffered a 23.4% decrease, bringing in only $68.7 million for the month. This downturn in baccarat revenue, coupled with a 33% drop over the last three months.
While the Las Vegas Strip struggled, Downtown Las Vegas experienced its own challenges. The GGR for Downtown reached $86.8 million, representing an 11% decline from the previous year. Despite this downturn, the market has managed to maintain a 4% increase in GGR year-to-date.
The performance of other nearby markets also reflected a trend of decline. North Las Vegas reported a decrease of 3.7%, while Laughlin and the Boulder Strip saw declines of 6.8% and 2.6%, respectively.
While the southern markets faced challenges, the northern regions of Nevada did not fare much better in October. The overall performance of these markets was mixed, with South Lake Tahoe standing out as an exception. With a GGR of $20.8 million, South Lake Tahoe recorded the largest increase among the markets tracked by the NGCB, boasting an 18.7% rise.
In contrast, Washoe County experienced declines across the board. Reno, in particular, reported a 3% decrease in GGR, totaling $68.1
million. Despite this downturn, the Reno market remains relatively stable year-to-date. The Carson Valley also exhibited flat performance, with slight increases of 1.8% for the month and 1.1% for the fiscal year-to-date.

Norway’s Sovereign Wealth Fund to Scrutinize Crypto
Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, the largest of its kind globally, is to embark on a comprehensive investigation into cryptocurrency and gambling companies within its investment portfolio. This move, slated for the coming year, aims to ensure these firms adhere to stringent ethical standards, particularly concerning the risk of money laundering. The fund’s ethics watchdog, known as the Council on Ethics, will play a pivotal role in this process, recommending divestment or watchlist placement for companies found in breach of ethical guidelines.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Norwegian fund to maintain its reputation as a responsible global investor. With holdings spanning over 8,700 companies worldwide and a total value of $1.8 trillion, the fund’s decisions carry significant weight in the international investment community. The upcoming investigations reflect grow-
ing concerns about the ethical implications of investments in emerging technologies and industries with potential social impacts.
As the fund investigates these complex ethical waters, its actions are likely to set precedents for other large institutional investors. The focus on cryptocurrency and gambling operators highlights the increasing scrutiny these sectors face as they become more mainstream and integrated into global financial systems.
Norway’s sovereign wealth fund, officially known as the Government Pension Fund Global, stands as a testament to the country’s prudent management of its oil wealth. Established in 1990, the fund has grown to become a behemoth in the global investment landscape, with far-reaching influence and a commitment to ethical investing principles.
The fund’s inception can be traced back to Norway’s decision to safeguard and grow its petroleum revenues for future generations. Over the decades, it has expanded its investment portfolio to include a diverse range of assets across the globe. Today, it holds approximately 1.5% of all listed shares worldwide, making it a significant player in international markets.
At the core of the fund’s operations is a balanced investment strategy that seeks to maximize returns while adhering to strict ethical guidelines. These guidelines, set by the Norwegian parliament, reflect the nation’s values and commitment to responsible investing. They cover a wide range of issues, including human rights, environmental protection, and corporate governance.
How Virtual Sports Are Knocking The Competition For Six
BETBAZAR has recently added AI Cricket to its growing esports roster, we caught up with COO, Max Sevostianov, to learn how this evolving vertical can play a key role in attracting new audiences and keeping existing customers engaged.
Why is AI cricket, along with efootball, ebasketball, and ehockey, gaining such demand among players and operators?
I believe in this case, AI cricket and other virtual sports are gaining traction because they offer consistent, 24/7 availability that appeals to a global audience. Couple that with the instant, fast-paced nature of these games and you have a product that provides opportunities for non-stop betting without any of the restrictions associated with traditional sports schedules and their seasons. The main goal of virtual sports is, of course, to create a new niche within the iGaming industry that’s connected to AI technology. By doing so, you give operators and players much more flexibility and
add the possibility of creating fantastic products with a much broader appeal
What demographic is most attracted to virtual sports and how much crossover is there with traditional sports bettors seeking 24/7 events?
Generally speaking, the demographic drawn to virtual sports is often a younger, tech-savvy player category that typically enjoys quick, on-demand entertainment. That being said, there is significant crossover with traditional sports players who are simply seeking constant action outside of their regular schedules. You have to remember that these games are now so advanced that they can successfully emulate the appeal of the real-world sports that they’re based on, making them an attractive alternative for players that offers on-demand competitions and a variety of markets. In this way, they can effectively fill the gaps in operators’ offerings when live sports aren’t available.
How have virtual sports evolved recently in terms of production quality and how has this further boosted their popularity among players?
The production quality found in virtual sports has improved dramatically in recent years and I believe it will continue to do so from month-to-month, not even year-to-year. With AI technology helping to enhance the graphics and realism of virtual events and dynamic elements such as live commentary and in-game statistics all adding to the experience, I think there’s now much more scope for operators to package the product to suit their audience. This evolution makes virtual sports feel far more immersive and helps to bridge the gap between video games and live sports, enhancing their appeal to both casual and serious players and creating a big surge in popularity.
How do virtual sports strike the correct balance between the unpredictability of real sports and
using data-driven insights to inform betting decisions?
Virtual sports integrate complex algorithms and AI to simulate the unpredictability of real sports, ensuring no two games are ever alike. Just as in real sports the results are never 100% guaranteed, but all teams and sportsmen are underpinned by actual data and statistics to enable players to plan their choices accordingly. What we don’t want to do is create uncertainty for players, so if an obvious underdog is consistently beating better opposition, there’s obviously a problem – but at the same time, the result shouldn’t ever be a foregone conclusion either. Essentially, what we’re trying to do is provide entertainment first and foremost, but one that’s backed up by solid data.
With AI cricket offering dynamic commentary, realistic graphics
and detailed highlights, do you think it’s a good product for operators to cross-sell to their sportsbook customers?
I think it’s always an option when you’ve created a product that has a very similar structure to its real world sport equivalent. We’ve seen it before with FIFA and football and NBA2K and basketball, so why should it be any different with virtual cricket? Most operators already have an existing audience for cricket, so the virtual version will probably also be of interest to them too, especially given its additional capacity to entertain with music and special effects. What I’d expect is that if sportsbook players find the product engaging, they’ll turn to it when there are no live events scheduled and – over time – may blend both games into their regular gaming routines.
What advantages do virtual sports like AI cricket offer operators compared to real sports, such as shorter game times and sustainable margins?
In addition to filling the gaps in their regular live gaming schedule, virtual sports provide a number of advantages over their real world counterparts. These include shorter game cycles and tighter schedules, creating more gaming events and a higher gaming volume in a smaller time frame. Additionally, because these products aren’t tied to real world logistics, they offer stable margins, predictable revenue streams and the possibility for further experimentation. In football, for example, I doubt we’ll see the rules change any time soon, but in a virtual game like FIFA, you can easily adjust the format, see how your audience responds and update your product accordingly.
How can operators use the branding and customisation potential of AI cricket to enhance their offering and provide a unique product?
I think this is an important question when you consider the potential of AI cricket as an acquisition tool. In the virtual arena, the opportunities for customisation are basically unlimited, so there are huge opportunities for operators here. By adding branded elements to both the teams and game environment, they can create something unique that truly differentiates them in a competitive market. On top of that, there’s also scope to introduce features such as localised commentary and region-specific tournaments that resonate more deeply with their target audience, so while we’re still waiting to see the precise requests of our clients, the possibilities are basically endless.
UAE Launches First Licensed Lottery
The United Arab Emirates has entered a new era of regulated gaming with the launch of its first officially licensed lottery. This ground-breaking development marks a significant shift in the UAE’s approach to gambling and entertainment.
The introduction of the UAE Lottery represents a watershed moment in the country’s entertainment landscape. For the first time, citizens and residents have the opportunity to participate in a government-sanctioned lottery, bringing a new form of excitement and potential rewards to the Emirates.
In a competitive process, Abu Dhabibased company The Game, a subsidiary of the gaming and entertainment operation Momentum, secured the coveted UAE Lottery license.
The success of the UAE Lottery hinges on the expertise and collaboration of several key players in the industry. Smartplay International, a renowned lottery draw specialist, has secured a vendor license, suggesting its involvement in powering the lottery’s operations.
At the helm of the lottery’s management is Bishop Woosley, a seasoned
professional with an impressive background in lottery operations. Woosley’s experience as the former director of the Arkansas Scholarship Lottery and his tenure as president of the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries bring valuable insights to the UAE’s nascent lottery industry.
Lucky Day Draw
The centerpiece of the UAE Lottery’s initial offerings is the AED100 million Lucky Day draw. Tickets for this highstakes game are priced at AED50.
The inaugural Lucky Day draw is scheduled for December 14, in addition to the Lucky Day draw, the UAE Lottery has introduced a range of scratchcard games. These instant-win options cater to different preferences and budgets, with prices ranging from AED5 to AED50, the scratchcard prizes are equally diverse, offering potential winnings from AED50,000 to AED1 million.
Currently, tickets for the UAE Lottery are available exclusively online. This digital-first approach aligns with the UAE’s reputation as a technologically advanced nation and provides convenience for players.
Prior to the licensing of the UAE Lot -
tery, companies like Emirates Draw and Mahzooz had established a presence in the market. With the new regulatory framework in place, these operators are now exploring ways to pivot their businesses to align with the evolving landscape.
This adaptation process may involve diversifying into other verticals or seeking partnerships within the newly regulated gaming sector. The ability of these companies to innovate and find new niches will be crucial for their continued success in the UAE market.
The licensing of the UAE Lottery opens up new possibilities for the gaming industry in the Emirates. As the market matures, there may be opportunities for additional operators to enter, bringing diverse gaming experiences to the region.
The success of the lottery could pave the way for the introduction of other forms of regulated gaming, potentially including sports betting or online casino games. However, the pace and scope of this expansion will likely be carefully managed by regulatory authorities to ensure responsible growth.
UKGC Reportedly In Mediation With Richard Desmond
In early 2022, the Gambling Commission awarded the fourth National Lottery license to Allwyn, a Czech operator, after a competitive bidding process. This decision came as a significant shift, as Camelot had managed the lottery since its inception in 1994. Desmond’s Northern and Shell was among the contenders for the license, and the loss of the bid has led to the current legal challenges.
Following the award, Richard Desmond launched a High Court challenge against the Gambling Commission. His claims highlight perceived deficiencies in the bidding process, alleging that Allwyn received “unfairly favorable treatment.” Desmond argues that the Commission’s actions were not only flawed but also detrimental to the integrity of the lottery’s operation.
The £200 million claim is not merely a financial figure; it represents a significant portion of the funds generated by the National Lottery, which plays a crucial role in supporting charitable causes across the UK.
In a recent development, the Gambling
Commission it is reported has initiated mediation discussions with Desmond’s Northern and Shell. The aim is to resolve the dispute without further court proceedings, which could prolong the uncertainty surrounding the lottery’s operations.
Allwyn, the new operator of the National Lottery, has faced numerous hurdles since taking over in February 2024. The company aimed to implement a comprehensive technology upgrade to modernize the lottery’s infrastructure. However, delays in transitioning to new IT systems have raised alarms about their ability to meet ambitious fundraising targets.
The transition to Allwyn’s new technology platform has been fraught with challenges. Initially scheduled for completion in the summer of 2024, the deadline was pushed back to February 2025. Industry insiders express skepticism about whether this new timeline will be met.
Financial Implications
As Allwyn navigates these technologi-
cal challenges, concerns are mounting regarding its ability to fulfill fundraising projections. The company is reportedly behind on its sales forecasts, which could significantly impact the funds available for charitable contributions. The National Lottery is a vital source of funding for numerous causes, and any shortfall could have serious repercussions.
The proposed technology upgrades are designed to improve the overall experience for lottery players. By modernizing systems, Allwyn aims to introduce new games and features that could attract a broader audience and increase participation in the lottery.
Allwyn has ambitious plans to double the lottery’s contributions to charitable causes from £17 billion to £34 billion over the duration of its ten-year license. Achieving this goal hinges on the successful implementation of new technology and the resolution of ongoing legal issues.
New Jersey Regulator Fines William Hill
The New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) has imposed a $20,000 fine on William Hill, for accepting wagers on events that had already concluded.
William Hill has been a major player in the New Jersey sports betting market since its legalization in 2018. The company operates both retail sportsbooks and online betting platforms, catering to a wide range of sports enthusiasts across the state. New Jersey’s sports betting industry has experienced tremendous growth over the past few years, with operators like William Hill contributing significantly to its success.
Details of the Violation
The incident that led to William Hill’s fine occurred in September 2020. The operator accepted wagers on two college football games that had already taken place. Specifically, bets were placed on matches involving Clemson University and the University of Miami, both of which had concluded before
the wagers were accepted.
This oversight raised serious concerns about William Hill’s internal controls and the effectiveness of its systems in preventing such occurrences.
DGE Investigation and Findings
Upon discovering the violation, the Division of Gaming Enforcement launched a thorough investigation into the matter. The regulatory body examined William Hill’s betting records, internal procedures, and technological systems to determine the extent of the issue and identify any underlying causes.
The investigation revealed that the violation was not an isolated incident but rather a result of systemic failures in William Hill’s operations. The DGE found that the operator’s controls were insufficient to prevent the acceptance of wagers on past events, highlighting a significant gap in their risk management practices.
Following the imposition of the fine, William Hill issued a statement acknowledging the violation and expressing regret for the oversight. The company has committed to implementing a comprehensive action plan to address the identified shortcomings in its operations.
Key elements of William Hill’s corrective measures include:
Enhancing its technological infrastructure to prevent the acceptance of bets on completed events
Strengthening internal controls and risk management procedures
Providing additional training to staff members involved in the betting process
Conducting regular internal audits to ensure ongoing compliance

Texas Sports Betting Study Points The Way Forward
Texas stands at a crossroads in the realm of sports betting. As one of the few remaining states where wagering on sports events remains prohibited, the Lone Star State finds itself at the centre of a heated debate. Recent studies have shed light on the potential economic windfall that could result from legalizing this form of gambling, prompting stakeholders and policymakers to reconsider their stance.
In a new study conducted by Eilers & Krejcik, the independent research firm, with their report, titled “Legal Online Sports Betting In Texas: Revenue Forecast and Economic Impact Analysis,” offers insights into the financial and employment benefits that could arise from embracing sports betting.
Texas currently finds itself in a unique position as one of the few remaining holdouts in the national trend towards legalizing sports betting. While many states have embraced this form of gam-
bling, Texas maintains its prohibition, placing it among a dwindling minority of eleven states where sports wagering remains illegal. This stance has sparked debates about whether the state is missing out on significant economic opportunities.
As neighbouring states and others across the nation reap the benefits of legalized sports betting, pressure is mounting on Texas lawmakers to reconsider their position. Advocates argue that Texans are already participating in sports betting through illegal channels or by traveling to other states, resulting in a loss of potential revenue and regulatory control for Texas.
In recent years, there have been increased discussions among legislators, sports team owners, and business leaders about the possibility of legalizing sports betting in Texas. These conversations have been fuelled by studies highlighting the potential economic
benefits and the changing attitudes of Texans towards gambling.
Key Findings and Projections
At the heart of the study are several key projections that paint a compelling picture of the potential benefits for Texas:
Direct Tax Revenue: The research estimates that legalizing sports betting could generate over $360 million in direct tax revenue for the state annually.
Job Creation: The industry is projected to add over 8,000 new jobs to the Texas economy.
Economic Output: The total economic impact is estimated at $2.6 billion annually in increased economic output.
Additional Tax Benefits: Beyond direct gambling taxes, the study projects $24.3 million per year in non-gaming tax revenues.

Las Vegas Sands contemplates a massive $6 billion investment in a Long Island casino project. However, this ambitious plan now faces an unexpected twist – the prospect of legalized online gambling in the Empire State. This development has prompted Las Vegas Sands to reassess its strategy, potentially redirecting its focus to other U.S. markets.
In a recent earnings call, Las Vegas Sands CEO Robert Goldstein shed light on the company’s deliberations, highlighting the complex interplay between traditional brick-and-mortar casinos and the world of online gaming. As New York inches closer to internet-based casino games, the ramifications for land-based establishments loom large, forcing industry leaders to adapt their approaches.
The $6 Billion Question: Las Vegas Sands’ New York Casino Project
Las Vegas Sands, a titan in the global casino industry, has set its sights on New York’s lucrative gaming market with a
proposed $6 billion casino project on Long Island. This ambitious undertaking represents a significant investment in the state’s entertainment and hospitality sector, promising to create jobs, boost tourism, and generate substantial tax revenue.
The proposed casino complex would be situated near the Nassau Coliseum, a prime location that could potentially transform the area into a major entertainment hub.
As Las Vegas Sands contemplates its brick-and-mortar investment, a parallel narrative is unfolding in New York’s legislative chambers. Senator Joe Addabbo has introduced bill S8185 to the 2024 legislature, proposing the legalization of online casino gambling in the state. This move represents a significant shift in New York’s approach to gaming, potentially opening up a vast new market for operators.
The proposed legislation builds on previous attempts, maintaining a 30.5% tax rate on online casino revenues.
However, it introduces elements designed to address various stakeholder concerns.
This data suggests a gradual shift in player preferences and highlights the potentialfor online platforms to capture a significant share of the gaming market. As New York considers legalizing online casinos, these trends will likely factor heavily into the decisionmaking processes of both legislators and casino operators.
The potential legalization of online gambling in New York presents Las Vegas Sands with a strategic conundrum. CEO Robert Goldstein has hinted that if iGaming becomes a reality in the Empire State, the company might reconsider its investment plans, potentially shifting focus to other U.S. markets.
The New York State Gaming Commission has recently adjusted its timeline for new casino license applications, introducing both challenges and opportunities for prospective operators.
North Devon Council Stance Against Casinos
North Devon Council has taken a proactive step to reinforce its opposition to casinos within its jurisdiction.
North Devon Council has adopted a “No-Casino Resolution” under Section 166 of the Gambling Act 2005.
The No-Casino Resolution is a formal declaration that effectively bars any future casino applications in North Devon, regardless of potential changes in legislation.
The resolution is grounded in the Gambling Act 2005, which provides local authorities with the power to make decisions regarding gambling establishments in their areas. By invoking Section 166, North Devon Council has exercised its right to preemptively block casino developments.
It’s important to note that while the resolution specifically targets casinos, it does not affect other forms of regulated gambling or existing premises. This targeted approach allows the council to address concerns about large-scale gambling operations with-
out impacting other sectors of the local economy.
A key driver behind the resolution was the overwhelming public support for such a measure. The council conducted a comprehensive public consultation earlier in the year, which revealed that 82% of respondents favoured the NoCasino Resolution.
One of the primary motivations cited by both the public and council members was the potential for gambling addiction. The resolution reflects a commitment to protecting vulnerable individuals from the risks associated with casino gambling.
Respondents to the public consultation expressed worries about the broader impact of casinos on families and local communities. These concerns ranged from financial strain on households to potential increases in crime rates.
While casinos are often touted as potential economic drivers, the council and many residents felt that the potential negative impacts outweighed
any perceived benefits. This decision prioritizes long-term community wellbeing over short-term economic gains.
North Devon Council has been clear about its rationale for implementing the No-Casino Resolution, emphasizing its commitment to the welfare of local residents.
Councillor Louisa York, chair of the licensing and community safety committee, emphasized that the resolution puts the well-being of residents first. This approach aligns with the council’s broader goals for creating a safer and healthier North Devon.
The council has linked the No-Casino Resolution to its efforts to combat deprivation in the region. With 11% of the population classified as incomedeprived and several neighbourhoods ranking among the most deprived in the country, the council views the prevention of casinos as a step towards protecting vulnerable communities.
UK Operator Allwyn Reports Sales Decline
Allwyn’s recent financial disclosure has shed light on the performance of the National Lottery in the UK market. The third quarter of the fiscal year, ending in September, revealed a slight contraction in ticket sales compared to the same period in the previous year. This decline, while modest, has sparked discussions about the overall health of the lottery market and the factors influencing consumer behavior.
The reported 1% year-on-year decrease in ticket sales, when adjusted for constant currency, indicates a marginal but noteworthy shift in the lottery’s performance. This figure, while not alarming in isolation, becomes more significant when viewed in the context of the
lottery’s historical growth trajectory and its importance to various stakeholders, including charitable organizations that benefit from lottery proceeds.
The Impact on Instant Win Games
A key area of concern highlighted in Allwyn’s report is the weaker performance of instant win lottery games. These games, which have traditionally been a strong revenue generator for the National Lottery, have seen a decline in popularity. This shift could be attributed to changing consumer preferences, increased competition from other forms of gambling, or economic factors affecting discretionary spending.
It’s crucial to consider these figures within the broader economic landscape of the UK. Factors such as inflation, cost of living increases, and general economic uncertainty may be influencing consumer spending habits, potentially leading to reduced expenditure on lottery tickets and games.
The UK economy has been facing various challenges, including inflationary pressures and rising living costs. These economic strains can lead to reduced disposable income for many households, potentially impacting their willingness or ability to participate in lottery games.
