Youth Service Update

K

eynsham Town Council Youth Service offers enjoyable activities to all young people across Keynsham that provide opportunities to learn new skills and meet new people. We run youth club nights, detached sessions at Community at 67 and outreach in the town centre. We recently relaunched sessions with a change in the age ranges to encourage more young people to get involved. Our Programme Open sessions Tuesday 7pm – 9:30pm Timeout Youth Centre, Bath Hill School years 6, 7 and 8 (ages 10-13) Cost: 50p Thursday 7pm – 9:30pm Timeout Youth Centre, Bath Hill School years 9, 10, 11 and Sixth Form (ages 13 – 19) Cost: 50p Cook and Chill Friday 4pm – 6:30pm Community at 67, Queens Road School years 5, 6 and 7 (ages 8 – 11) Cost: 50p Open Music Studio & Youth Café 2nd Saturday of every month 12 noon -2:30pm Cost: 50p What have we been doing? On Tuesday evenings the music studio is open; Assistant Youth Worker, Mike, has been showing young people how to record tracks. Downstairs we have cooking, arts or crafts. On Thursday evenings, our Youth Support Worker, Kelly has been teaching young people basic First Aid skills, covering CPR to burns and everything in between. On Friday’s we have Cook & Chill with Dan and Carrie; members are learning to make tasty meals and sweet treats.

What’s next? The youth team will be out supporting the skate park event on 9th May at Memorial Park. The team are busy organising events for the summer and are planning the return of the climbing wall following its popularity in previous years. Look out for more information in the summer edition of the Keynsham News. On the streets The outreach team are out on the streets on Friday evenings. With the dark nights and cold weather, youth workers have been predominantly visiting both Memorial and Kelston Parks. As the weather changes in the spring, the team will be visiting more areas and organising games. Did you know? We have a fully working recording music studio and rehearsal space, four computers, and FREE wifi. Come along and try for nothing! We have plenty of space for new members in all of our sessions and the first week is completely free.
