SOMERSET COAL CANAL SOCIETY

LATEST FROM SOMERSETSHIRE COAL CANAL SOCIETY

Despite not being able to do much building work over the winter months because lime mortar does not set in cold weather, there has been plenty going on with the Somersetshire Coal Canal Society’s projects.

Our stonemasons have been preparing and sorting the good stone for Terminus Bridge abutment walls ready for when the weather improves and there has been a focus on clearing the edges of the Paulton Basin. This is thanks to the Paulton Work Parities, who now meet weekly, every Sunday from 10 am onwards. Recently, we have been clearing some of the old reeds that are blocking the water flow and stopping wildlife from moving freely, we’re leaving plenty of reeds in the water for spring, but it is looking much tidier now.

Visitors to the site might have noticed that we’ve removed a tree next to the Dry Dock Bridge, the tree was rotten and had an increased risk of falling and damaging the bridge.

Why don’t you come down and volunteer with us?

Work Parties are a great way to meet new people, get out in our beautiful countryside, and they act like a free green gym too! Get in touch if you'd like to know more - workparty_paulton@coalcanal. org.uk or call Stu on 07759 336864.
