Midsomer Norton Town Council Website

Website www.midsomernortontowncouncil.co.uk

The prospect of a new website for Midsomer Norton Town Council was raised on the December 2019 Finance and Operations agenda. At the time, the existing site was starting to show its age. Not only did it look dated, it was becoming increasingly cumbersome for the Council staff to maintain and update. Several quotes were sought with costs varying to over £7,000.

Despite the considerable effort required, it was decided the Town Council would try producing the new website in-house utilising the existing skills and experience of the staff and councillors.

The new site has been designed with a newspaper style look and feel with the home page now containing much more information to engage visitors. Articles are category based making it easier to add new content. To reduce the maintenance workload the site has features such as article expiration and can automatically propagate content to our social media channels.

Going forward, the Communications Working Party envisage expanding our digital offering. Plans are underway to produce YouTube content

promoting our town and the events we host. We will continue to work with, and support, local print media providers but also look to utilise the skills and talents of our residents by reaching out to our town’s organisations who might like to contribute digital content showing Midsomer Norton at its best.

The new website went live on the 19th March. To encourage as many people as possible to visit the new site and keep updated on the many wonderful things happening in our town, we will soon be launching a free prize draw for the first thousand people who enter with a top prize of a £100 Amazon voucher and five prizes of free tickets to the Community Cinema.
