Igor Borozan was born in Sarajevo in the spring of 1968. Coming from an artistic family, he naturally plays and grows up with the brushes and colours in his father’s atelier. His precocious personality and his undisputable talent for painting lead him to attend prestigious art schools in Eastern Europe. On 1990 he arrives in Italy, his homeland. Here he studies and, in Rome, he specializes in illustration with Professor Giancarlo Montelli. The war in the Balkans breaks out in 1991 and Igor Borozan’s following years are dedicated to a broad artistic production. The winds of war and the anger in the heart seem to have given new strength to his style of painting that is now becoming impulsive, overwhelming. Recommended by important gallery directors he moves to Switzerland, where his works are displayed in prestigious galleries in Horgen, Lucerne and Zurich. He goes back to Italy in 1998 as Danilo Donati wants him in his staff as scene painter for the movie “Life is Beautiful” by Roberto Benigni. During the shooting of the Oscar winning movie, he founds the Academy of Fine Arts in Terni. His pictorial language is simple, immediate, genuine, undeniably affected by the multiethnic music of the composer Goran Bregovic, his first artistic reference at Sarajevo’s times. In Italy he has a constant engagement with the Italian Ministry of Heritage and Culture for the promotion of events related to the “Week of Culture” and to the “European Heritage Days”, the most important annual art events on the Italian and international scene. In February 2008, he is awarded the prestigious “Saint Valentine’s Golden International Award” for the art. Recently, his artistic production is dedicated to a more material and tangible conception of the work of art. Urban representations come to life from his paintings: gigantic shirts of white paper hanging in the air, as a metaphor of the human condition that is seen suspended halfway between greatness and misery, between divine and earthly. From 2007 he starts a parallel and creative journey that takes him close to the Iberian world, with numerous artistic collaborations with art associations in Madrid such as the Taller del Prado, the Hub, the Circle of Fine Arts and the Caixa Forum. The main source of inspiration is represented by the stirring atmospheres of flamenco that give life to works of intense emotional depth. Particularly intriguing are those devoted to the singer Diego El Cigala Currently, its focus has returned to the painting and to the engraving technique, as demonstrated by the important production of fine art prints created in collaboration with Giorgio Upiglio and his disciple Paolo Sgroi. On the summer of 2011a very interesting experimentation in the ceramic workshops of the masters of Deruta takes place. Igor Borozan creates a unique blend combining the historical tradition of the place with an absolutely personal and unusual design. His research is a continuous flow, an ongoing transformation of the being and of his journey, where East and West come together in an overview of European awash with creative and important socio-cultural transitions.
