INDIAN CAREResource RESOURCE Center CENTERof OFIHCRC TULSA Indian HEALTH Health Care Tulsa 2017 1
About the Organization Since 1976, Indian Health Care Resource Center has been dedicated to improving the health of Tulsa’s American Indian population. Almost 40 years after inception, Indian Health Care Resource Center (IHCRC) remains dedicated to its mission of providing quality, comprehensive healthcare to Tulsa area Indian people in a culturally sensitive manner that promotes good health, well-being and harmony. IHCRC’s commitment to quality is evident in its accreditation by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Centers (AAAHC) and its certification as a Medical Home by AAAHC. IHCRC’s services are specifically designed to address one of the most important aspects of care for American Indians, attentiveness to the four elements of an individual’s nature (physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual). This focus on the whole person requires a complete integration of services, including those that positively affect behavioral as well as physical health. IHCRC’s medical home model of care allows patients to see the same care team on every visit. The wide array of integrated services operates through a multidisciplinary, patient-centered, medical home model of care. The one-stop shop houses: • • • • • • • • • • • • • • • •
Primary Care Internal Medicine Pediatrics Optometry Dentistry Pharmacy Laboratory Radiology Behavioral Health Systems of Care Suicide Prevention and Intervention Domestic Violence Awareness and Counseling Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment Health Education and Wellness Transportation Programs for Youth
As a nonprofit organization, IHCRC is not an Indian Health Service program nor is it tribally affiliated. Indian Health Care Resource Center (IHCRC) does not have tribal affiliation and as such does not receive federal funds appropriated for tribal health. As a provider of healthcare for the urban Indian population, IHCRC receives limited funding (less than 1% of its budget) from local Oklahoma tribes who concentrate their dollars on the rural Indian populations.
2017 Letter from the President and the CEO In the ever-changing world of healthcare each year brings us new rewarding stories and a new set of challenges to meet. At Indian Health Care Resource Center (IHCRC) we are blessed that our success stories always out number our challenges and we consistently work to meet our challenges with courage, strength, and positivity. We are proud to report this year we served a record number of medical patients at our clinic. The increase in patient visitation, and the outlook for a continued growth, will require us to expand our physician staff and to remodel our medical department. Beginning in December we plan to repurpose our medical records room which will result in an increase to our number of patient exam rooms. We believe these changes will allow our staff to continue to provide the firstclass healthcare our patients receive at our clinic. This year also marked the beginning of the Native American Community Committee hosted by IHCRC. Representatives of Native American Employee Groups and Indian-owned businesses meet once a month to learn from one another, to share each other’s missions, and to plan joint volunteer activities, many of which benefit IHCRC. The group has been an inspiring success and we are grateful to partner with so many wonderful Indian-owned companies.
Our running club, Running Strong, has been a huge success! The club began 18 months ago as a small group of 25 and has steadily grown to more than 75 youth and adults participating in the club’s activities. The group participates in approximately eight runs per year providing exposure for IHCRC and our mission to everyone they meet. More importantly, the club’s success is founded in the life changing stories of the club’s participants. We’ve witnessed our members losing excess weight, our youth improving their school grades and we’ve seen the personal confidence of all the participants grow. For these reasons we’re proud to say Running Strong has been a great success!

Finally, we are thankful for our staff for their continued dedication to our clinic’s mission. Because of our staff’s commitment we continue to positively impact and change our patients’ lives. On the following pages you will find a brief synopsis of those we have the honor of serving. Thank you for being a part of another successful year at IHCRC! Caring is strong medicine!
