Jack
t s u b r o t s o bo Jack had been on the ramps all day, doing some wicked tricks on his skateboard. He was starting to feel a bit tired but wasn’t ready to go home yet; he still hadn’t managed a triple, whipple, wheelie, flipple’ trick yet. Just as the sun was setting and Jack was ready to give up, he spotted one of the Resistorbot ‘N-Kick’ power boosts laying on the ground behind the ramp.
10
“Hmm, I wonder?” he thought to himself. Jack carefully took the ‘N-Kick’ and plugged it into his key hole. This could be all he needed to finally pull off the triple, whipple, wheelie flipple’. He had seen how fast the N-Kick made the Resistorbots, surely it would work on him too. No sooner had he opened the valve when he felt a powerful tingle racing through his cogs. It got stronger and stronger and stronger until...
BANG!! Jacks nuts and bolts popped off, flying in all directions across the skate park. Jack tried to pick them up, but his arms fell off, then his legs. Eventually, he was just a pile of scrap on the floor.
11
12
It seemed like hours had passed before jack heard a squeaky robot rolling into the park. “Please don’t let this be a Resistorbot!” he whispered. He knew that he could never fight off a Resistorbot in his current state. The figure in the distance got closer and closer. It was tall, slim and had one wheel. “Dr Creek? Miss Merize? Oh no, this doesn’t look good”. Eventually the robot came into view... “Mik-E!” shouted Jack, “what a relief!” Mik-E was the local E-Bot mechanic and would know just how to put jack back together again.
Mik-E gathered up all the bits of Jack and began the repair. In no time, Jack was better than ever. “I don’t know how to thank you Mik-E” he gushed. “Just promise me that you will never use a Resistorbot power boost again. Next time, you might not be so lucky”. “Don’t worry Mik-E, there definitely won’t be a next time!”

Rusty: Thank you for agreeing to talk to us today. I know you are an E-Bot of very few words, but I know our readers are very excited to learn more about you. Nobody: I wouldn’t say I’m an E-Bot of few

I will always help the E-Bots if I’m needed, but it just seems to be one thing after another and I just want to be left alone. Anyway, I trust that ROBOB will always do what’s best for all of us E-Bots so there shouldn’t be anything to fear.

CHAPTER ONE
M
onday 25th May 2002 was a very happy day for David and Helen Butler, for today was the day that they brought home their twin baby boys.
Helen and David carefully carried the two boxes into the living room and put them on the table.
They spent the day showing off their new little sons to all the friends and family that came to call. They fed them they changed them, sang to them, watched them while they slept but all the while they were waiting for another exciting delivery.
And so, taking one box each, they slowly lifted the lids. Nestled inside and wrapped in little cotton wool blankets, were two tiny robots, or Life-Bots as they are known.
Then, just as the sun was going down, there was a knock at the door. David and Helen looked at each other with excitement and ran to the door. There was no one standing on the doorstep, just two small wooden boxes, but they were exactly what they had been waiting for.
“Let’s do this together” said Helen.
“Oh how adorable” exclaimed Helen, “They’re twins, just like the boys”. “Let’s take them up” said David as he carefully lifted one out of its box and began winding the tiny key that fitted into the side of its head. Helen did the same and, as soon as the tiny Life-Bots started moving, they quietly made their way upstairs to where baby Lucas and Max were sleeping.
As soon as the Life-Bots spotted their life long human companions, they started to wriggle and squirm towards the sleeping babies.
Six Years Later...
Si, as he became known, snuggled up to sleeping baby Max, while the other Life-Bot quietly made his way over to little Lucas. Lucas’ eyes popped open when he felt the little robot next to him, and he gave a wide smile. Lucas’ Life-Bot was called ROBOB.
ROBOB, leader of the E-Bots, watched as General Choob and his gang of Resistorbots circled the playground, leaving misery in their wake. Choob particularly liked to pick on the little E-Bots.
Around the time that Lucas and Max reached two years old, the Butler family welcomed home a third child. A little baby girl called Millie. And, as before, a wooden box arrived shortly after containing Millie’s Life-Bot. She was a beautiful, shiny pink ball that looked more like a Christmas tree decoration than a robot. They named her Pearl.
Today it was Tiks turn to be bullied and ROBOB could barely watch as Choob teased and pushed the little grenade-like E-Bot until eventually, with tears streaming down his face, Tik exploded. Choob and his friends laughed with cruel delight as they watched Tik scurrying around pulling himself back together and then they called and jeered as he ran away to hide.
General Choobs eyes scanned the playground looking for his next victim. He spotted Pearl in a far corner, twirling and whirling around, casting ‘magic’ spells on her friends with her wand. With a nasty smile on his face, Choob started walking towards her. ROBOB felt weak and helpless. ‘If only I was one of the bigger, stronger E-Bots,’ he thought, ‘I’d put a stop to Choob and his cronies’. Just then, Pearl came rushing past him, sobbing, with her wand snapped in half. ROBOB felt so ashamed that he couldn’t even stand up for his little sister. ‘There must be something I can do to stop this.’ But just as he was thinking that, General Choob started heading his way. ROBOB slid into a dark corner to hide from him as he went past ‘It’s no good, I’m just not brave enough’ he thought sadly, ‘Choob and his gang are unstoppable’.
Four Weeks Later... ROBOB stood on the hill behind his home, staring at the dark forbidden factory that lay like an enormous sleeping monster in the valley below. For as long as he’d been with Lucas, he could never remember seeing anyone going into the factory. It was a true mystery but ROBOB felt drawn to the enormous black building for some reason. He often came to this spot to think and try to sort out his problems and this evening he had a particular problem to think about. Things were worse than ever in the school playground. General Choob’s power was increasing and playtimes at school were becoming a nightmare. As he was thinking about what he’d seen in the playground that day, ROBOB could feel himself getting more and more angry. He was so preoccupied with his thoughts that he nearly missed a tiny movement that seemed to be coming from inside the factory. ROBOB could barely contain himself. He stayed really still and just watched and watched and watched. Nothing seemed to be happening. Just as ROBOB was beginning to think that he had imagined it, he spotted a tiny light that seemed
to be dancing and flitting around behind the windows of the dark factory. As the lights got stronger, ROBOB felt himself being drawn towards the building. The closer he got, the stronger he began to feel. A strange feeling of confidence and wellbeing started to grow inside him. He felt like he could take on all of the Resistorbots, let alone General Choob! Gradually the lights began to fade and so too did all his feelings of power. All too soon, ROBOB found himself in total darkness again outside the enormous doors of the factory. ROBOB felt dazed. ‘What on earth just happened?’ he thought, ‘and how can I get my hands on those lights?’ This was exactly the sort of power that he needed to stand up to the bullies that were making everyone’s life so hard at school.
He didn’t know exactly how long he sat outside the factory, but nothing else happened and finally ROBOB gave up and made his way back home. Once inside the comfort of Lucas’ bedroom, ROBOB listened to the quiet breathing of a sleeping Lucas and tried to calm himself down. The events of the night seemed like a fantasy and he couldn’t work out what it could mean for him but he felt sure that it was vitally important. The next day in the school playground, General Choob was in his element, moving from one to another of the littlest E-Bots. He had already upset Tik and Aqud and forced Pearl to stay hidden in the classroom along with Liz and Oscar. Outside, Choob had set his sights on Dec, a small beetle-like robot. Choob started yanking on Decs legs whilst his Resistorbot followers held him down, twisting his legs in all directions and laughing at his distress. ROBOB suddenly felt himself filling up with anger and hatred and, within seconds, the
power he had felt the night before started to take over his body. He drew himself up to his full height and started walking purposefully towards where Choob had poor little Dec on the floor. Choob noticed ROBOB standing, staring at him and turned to give him a cruel smile. “Well well well, what do you want little wind up robot?” he sneered. “Need some help with your key do you?” Everyone laughed but ROBOB stood his ground. “What do you reckon lads?” said General Choob, “Shall we see how tight we can wind him up and how fast he can unwind?” Choob’s gang all shouted encouragement as Choob started walking towards ROBOB with an evil look on his face. ROBOB once again stood his ground, but he was very scared. He was one little E-Bot standing up to the mighty Choob. ‘Oh no’ he thought, ‘what have I got myself into now?’
But something inside him was giving him the strength to do this. He knew he had to be brave and stand up for what he knew was right for the sake of all the smaller E-Bots. As ROBOB stood there, feeling angrier and more frustrated at the situation he was now in, he once again felt a build up of strength and a feeling of determination come over him. He started to feel brave and confident, like he had the strength of 10 E-Bots and a whole army behind him. “Enough is enough” he said quietly, although his voice seemed to echo around the whole playground. Everyone stopped to watch. “We won’t put up with this any longer Choob. Can’t you see that life would be so much better if we could all get on? We come to school to learn and to make friends and you are stopping us from doing that and we’ve had enough”. General Choob walked even closer and put his face right into ROBOB’s. “We?” he replied. “I can only see you little wind up toy. Do you think you’re big enough to take on all of us by yourself?” he laughed sarcastically. “He’s not alone.” came a small voice from behind him. Tik had come up to stand next to ROBOB. “I’ve had enough too!” shouted Pearl, with determination in her voice. “I’m with you ROBOB” grumbled Brick as he came lumbering up slowly to stand beside ROBOB. General Choob suddenly looked less sure of himself as the number of E-Bots standing behind ROBOB grew and grew. Choob began to notice that one by one, his own gang of ‘friends’ were disappearing. General Choob started to panic, he was no good on his own. He only felt strong when he was showing off in front of his gang. And so, as ROBOB and the other E-Bots began to move towards him, he did what all bullies do when they are confronted... he ran away! The E-Bots all cheered and crowded around ROBOB, who was feeling a little dazed. Where had he got the strength from to stand up to General Choob? He knew it had something to do with the strange lights he had seen at the factory the night before, it was the same feeling of power

and invincibility. He made up his mind to go back to the factory as soon as he could and get to the bottom of this mystery. If just being exposed to the lights for a short while had helped him defeat General Choob, just think of the good he could do if he had that power all the time. For the moment though, he would keep this to himself until he knew what he was dealing with. The afternoon lessons passed peacefully and happily. General Choob sat alone at the back of the classroom, not really listening as Miss Cole set out their homework assignments. As soon as the bell rang, Choob kept himself to himself and made a quick exit. Later that evening, ROBOB made his way back up the hill to the factory. It looked dark and empty as usual. “OK, what do I do now?” he asked himself. He sat down and waited, watching for what seemed like hours. Nothing! He had just started to think that he was wasting his time, when he noticed one tiny light flickering and spinning around inside the huge black building.
”Yes!” ROBOB yelled, as he punched his fist in the air with excitement. He stared at the light, mesmerised as it quickly grew brighter and brighter until it was so bright he could barely look at it. Then, just as suddenly, it switched off and he was plunged into darkness again. ROBOB felt desperate, how could he hold onto this wonderful light? Suddenly, there was an almighty bang and his world went black. ROBOB found himself on the floor outside the now dark, silent factory. He got up carefully and checked himself for injuries. “Wow, what on earth is going on?” he said to himself. ROBOB decided he might be safer if he went back to his place on the hill and watched the factory from there.
As he turned to walk away, he noticed a small brown cardboard box on the floor outside the factory door. He was certain it hadn’t been there before the explosion. He walked over to it nervously and gave it a gentle nudge with his foot… Nothing. The box just sat there. Feeling braver, he tried to flick up one edge of the top of the box. A bright shaft of light shot into the sky, knocking ROBOB backwards to the ground. As he pulled himself to his feet, he started to feel very excited. This was what he had been trying to find. Slowly, ROBOB opened the box. Inside was a shining ball of light of extreme intensity. A flashing, buzzing orb of electricity. ROBOB had found The BUZZBALL. Perched on a nearby tree, but well out of sight, Honey – a troublesome, hornet-like Resistorbot, had seen and heard everything and could barely contain her excitement. This was just the sort of information that her queen, Miss Merize, would pay well for.

v a p v k e e r dr c “I am the best!” “No, I am” exclaimed Dr Creek to Miss Merize. “Well then, who is fabulous and in charge of all the Resistorbots? Hmm, let me think........ME!” cackled Miss Merize. Dr Creek was fed up with being told what to do by Miss ‘bossy’ Merize, so he had a plan. The next day, Dr Creek went to the E-Bots base and found Watchdog on look out. “Fed up with all of those evil Resistorbots then?” said Watchdog. “Yes, I have most definitly decided I will now become an E-Bot” said Dr Creek, with a smirk on his face. Watchdog called ROBOB and he congratulated Dr Creek. Dr Creek’s plan was working. He walked inside the E-Bot base and could see how happy they all were, but he remembered he had to stick to his evil plan. ROBOB showed Dr Creek around the E-Bot base, he even showed him the last room - the secret room. Dr Creek looked around and tried to memorize the path to the secret room. So later, when night fell, he crept back to the secret room. He thought all the E-Bots were sleeping but one E-Bot was still awake and heard Dr Creek sneaking around. it was Pavlova and she was standing there watching him! “What do you think you are doing sneaking around here at night?” asked Pavlova, “you want to steal the secret E-Bot plans dont you? You’re fed up with Miss Merize telling you what to do so you are trying to prove you are better than her. See, I got it in one!” anounced Pavlova proudly. Dr Creek decided to try and make a run for it but Pavlova stopped him. “You’re not escaping like that Dr Creek” said Pavlova as she sprang into action, spinning round and round at top speed. She whisked Dr Creek up off his feet and sent him flying up in the air, far far away back to the Resistorbot base. Not long after, all the E-Bots came outside and congratulated Pavlova on her excellent performance. They were all so proud of her, Luni even gave her a little kiss on the cheek and said “well done!” All night they partied and danced and everyone had a smile on their face and ROBOB shouted...... “BE BRAVE, STAND TALL, AND FIGHT FOR WHAT IS RIGHT”. And that is excactly what Pavlova did!

Gangsta Granny is the latest book from the hilarious x-factor judge, David Walliams.
this months game review is by Lucas - aged 10, from surrey
His books, which also include Billionaire Boy, Mr Stink and The Boy in the Dress, are being compared to the late Roald Dahl books, So you know they are going to be funny, exciting and even a bit scary. Oh, and they are definitely naughty! Boys, girls, old and young everyone will love this crazy, funny tale!
I love minecraft because it is SOOOO random! you can go from killing zombies to building houses. You can mine for rare jewels or search for ingredients to make a cake. this may not sound like a lot of fun, but trust me, this game is mega addictive and you’ll never get bored. that’s why millions of people around the world are playing it every day. oh, and best of all... it’s free!

The Adventures of ROBOB trading card game has been designed to work for all ages and abilities. There are many different ways to play, from simple ‘Trumps’ and ‘Who’s who?’ games, to a more strategic battle where you may need to sacrifice certain robots for the good of your team.

Lay your Battle Board on a flat surface. Split the cards into two piles, one for the E-Bots and one for the Resistorbots. Now choose your army and shuffle the cards. Place your army face down and, without looking, take the top 15 cards from that pile. These are the cards you will battle with. You can now look at your cards but don’t show your opponent. Now lay the 7 ‘Action Cards’ face down in the spaces in the centre of the battle board. Player one should now select one of the ‘Action Cards’ and turn it over for all to see. Both players should now look through their cards and select three characters that have a high score for that action. Place these cards, face down on the 3 play areas on your side of the board. Now battle the 3 cards, 1 at a time, based on the action that has been chosen. The higher number wins. The winner of each battle captures their opponents card and places it in jail until the end of the game.
