Naukri.com's report on hiring activity in the IT industry IT-Hardware sector has seen growth of 10% in Sept’20 when compared to the pre-COVID period of Feb’20. On the other hand, IT-Software still has to catch up to pre-COVID levels, down by 28% in Oct’20. One of the relatively least affected sectors inthe aftermath of the pandemic is the IT sector. At a time when COVID induced layoffs, shut downs, pay cuts and furlough took several sectors for a spin, one sector that was able to stay more than afloat in terms of hiring, was the IT sector, owing majorly to the increased demand for technological capabilities on the business front as well as having had an experience of the remote working environment on the people front. From a growth perspective, as per Naukri.com’s latest report, there is an upward M-O-M recovery for the IT sector, peaking in Sept’20 for hardware (63%) and software roles (20%).

In the images above, pre-COVID numbers refer to numbers in Feb20. While M-O-M in Sep20 looked promising, the growth in comparison to pre-COVID times is still lagging. The software segment continues to lag at 28% in October, and the hardware segment saw a decline from 10% growth to -14% in comparison to pre-COVID levels. Here are the key roles that continue to experience growing demand: • Software Developer • Tech Lead • Tech Architect • Testing Engineer • Technical Content Developer • Database Architect and Solution Architect Interestingly, roles such as Technical Content Developer, Solution Architect and Database Architect have witnessed a 350%, 150% and 100% growth in demand year on year, with demand for Tech Architect roles growing over 50% year on year. IT firms in the likes of Accenture, Tech Mahindra, TCS, IBM, Cognizant, Dell, MindTree, Xerox and Adobe are currently hiring for the roles mentioned above. In finding new opportunities, the most searched keywords by jobseekers on the Naukri.com portal are Java Developer, Manual Testing and Business Analyst, indicating not just a demand for candidates but a reciprocating demand for jobs as well in these much in-demand roles. From a geography perspective, Bengaluru (22%), Delhi (13%), Hyderabad (9%), Pune (9%) and Chennai (7%) contribute to 60% of the jobs in the sector.
With a slow yet steady recovery in business and the gradual return to former paychecks accompanied by reasonable increments, the IT sector is demonstrating signs of a return to normal. However, how that impacts workforce planning and structure in the near future and how IT giants manage to upskill their workforce for the digital proficiency that the future demands will determine their ability to fasttrack progress..

FIFA to allow 14 weeks of maternity leave to women Female players will be paid two-thirds of salary during maternity leave The governing body of the Fédération Internationale de Football Association, popularly known as FIFA, will now allow at least 14 weeks of maternity leave to all women athletes, along with a pay of two-thirds of their full salary. This mandate is protected under the new employment rules as announced by the international governing body of football. The national football bodies are allowed to negotiate more generous terms. The players on maternity leave will receive adequate medical support from their clubs that will also be obligated to reintegrate them once they return from the maternity leave. Any club not adhering to this new rule, will be required to pay a fine and face a risk of being banned from the transfer market for a whole year. This move is a step in the right direction in protecting women players before and after childbirth, and bringing in more professionalism to women’s football. This new rule is expected to address any potential issues that may arise with more women joining professional football. Out of the 14 weeks of leave, eight must be availed immediately after the player gives birth. Women coaches will also receive protection through formal contracts. Provisions will be made to ensure all women are paid on time. This new rule will benefit all women football players under FIFA. The rules are expected to be formally approved by the FIFA Council in December, and be implemented w.e.f Jan..

Disney at #1 for most admired HR, 2020 Disney dethrones Apple for the top spot in HR services Disney pushes down Apple, which was at the No. 1 spot for two consecutive years, and also Netflix to the third position, as the most admired HR in the report for corporate reputations.
As the entertainment giant soars to number one, Best Buy jumps 256 spots to land at no. 10. Disney’s reputation in the four categories — management quality, people management, product/service quality and innovation, soared. Its greatest gains were in the first two categories, with significant improvement in the latter two as well. Korn Ferry and Fortune team up annually, to determine the World’s Most Admired Companies. The credit for Disney’s ranking goes to its stable growth. Similar growth was shown by Disney in 2019 as it consistently worked to build its reputation. Disney’s HR team has supported the workforce in its journey towards this exponential growth. The “compassion and creativity” exhibited by the HR team clearly helped the employees handle these difficult times and cope better with the changed work situation, caused by the pandemic. The team focussed on the employees and ways to address their needs using tools that enable them to work smoothly. Best Buy, which took a giant leap to occupy the tenth position, made noticeable improvements in all four attributes, just like Disney, mostly through people management and management quality. Data was collected in late 2019 by Fortune and recalibrated for Human Resource Executive’s yearly Most Admired list, all based on the four HR attributes that measure HR quality..
