Competency-Based Pay Framework for Business Growth: Design and Implementation It is well known that even through the Global recession there is still a ‘war for talent’. Many surveys have regularly pointed out that one of the major concerns of senior management is the lack of skills to meet the company’s future business needs. While the focus is often on talent programmes and succession plans, little seems to have changed in the way we structure our Compensation and Benefit programmes. In part, this is because HR & C&B practitioners are comfortable with their grading structure and job evaluation plans even though, in most cases, they do not support the development of the skills and competencies required by the business. This workshop will focus on how to develop a pay programme linked to the skills and competencies required by the business and translate this into salary structures and pay systems. In particular, it will show how you can do this without fundamentally having to revamp your existing salary structures. With a stronger link between skills and pay programmes, along with the existing talent management initiatives, HR will ensure that your organisation is operating at the optimum level and that you have the right level of skills and competencies, linked to pay, which will help in achieving an engaged workforce. Attend this workshop and learn how to:

By completing this workshop, you will be able to:

§§ Collate job task information and develop skill attainment levels §§ Develop skill based salary structure options and link this to market pay levels and capture the financial impact of the new structure §§ Develop a skills analysis process, including skill validation & how to develop training plans to support skill acquisition §§ Implement and communicate the new programme to ensure success §§ Link skills analysis to competencies that can be integrated with the pay structure

§§ Identify the key skills and competencies required by your organisation §§ Develop a skills based grading structure and pay system §§ Develop core and functional competencies from the skills analysis, showing how it can be linked to performance management §§ Communicate and implement a skills based pay programme that will deliver the medium and long terms skills needs for the business

Tools & Templates Leave with a range of tools and templates ready for you to use the next morning in the office, these include: §§ Organisation review template §§ Skills identification template §§ Process for lining skills to pay

§§ Process for linking with skills with competency framework §§ Process for linking into performance management §§ Checklist for successful implementation

MEET YOUR WORKSHOP LEADER Insel Jemal has nearly 30 years experience in international HR Consulting specialising in Reward and Performance Management. He has carried out assignments in Europe, Middle East, Africa and America. In 1992, he created a competency based job evaluation programme, which has since been expanded into a complete Talent Management suite driven by web-based applications. At the heart of the process is a global career-ladder framework, which is now used to underpin all of the Meir pay surveys. 3
