Dear It Is Written friend, In 1944, an American Liberty ship, the SS Richard Montgomery, ran aground in the Thames Estuary 40 miles from London. On board were 1,500 tons of explosives. They remain on board the sunken ship to this day because it is simply too dangerous to remove them. The ship’s masts can be seen above the surface of the water, a reminder that below the waterline is a lot of power! Throughout our 61-year history, starting with Pastor George Vandeman in 1956, It Is Written has produced thousands of television programs. Powerful, Bible-based messages have taught God’s word and led many, many people to faith in God. After programs were broadcast, they were put on a shelf in storage and typically never seen again. Which means that we now have more than sixty years of power… sitting.
But there is a way to harness that power, and God has led us to do so. It occurred to me that there had to be a way of harnessing that power, of giving new life to the old programs which speak so powerfully of Jesus and the truth of the Bible. The problem we faced is that the old programs were recorded in formats that are no longer used. In fact, they simply cannot be used because 16 millimeter film, magnetic tape, and many other formats have become obsolete. But there is a way to harness that power, and God has led us to do so.
