Dear It Is Written friend, In 1944, an American Liberty ship, the SS Richard Montgomery, ran aground in the Thames Estuary 40 miles from London. On board were 1,500 tons of explosives. They remain on board the sunken ship to this day because it is simply too dangerous to remove them. The ship’s masts can be seen above the surface of the water, a reminder that below the waterline is a lot of power! Throughout our 61-year history, starting with Pastor George Vandeman in 1956, It Is Written has produced thousands of television programs. Powerful, Bible-based messages have taught God’s word and led many, many people to faith in God. After programs were broadcast, they were put on a shelf in storage and typically never seen again. Which means that we now have more than sixty years of power… sitting.

But there is a way to harness that power, and God has led us to do so. It occurred to me that there had to be a way of harnessing that power, of giving new life to the old programs which speak so powerfully of Jesus and the truth of the Bible. The problem we faced is that the old programs were recorded in formats that are no longer used. In fact, they simply cannot be used because 16 millimeter film, magnetic tape, and many other formats have become obsolete. But there is a way to harness that power, and God has led us to do so.

By the grace of God, we were GIVEN several machines to use for digitizing old programs. After having them repaired we now have several of our dedicated It Is Written volunteers transforming programming from yesteryear into digital files that can be viewed today by a global audience! We are harnessing the power from decades of solid Bible teaching! In addition to what our volunteers are doing, many tapes must be sent out to a media service company to be digitized. This service is expensive, but when this project is completed, we will have brought back to life the vast majority of the 3,000 or so weekly television programs It Is Written has produced over the past six decades. I realize that time is of the essence for this project, and I have a real burden to see it done. Old tape that sits in storage eventually degrades. Some of the old programming can not be salvaged owing to the ravages of time. But when this is completed, life-changing programming that hasn’t seen the light of day for decades will again preach the gospel of Jesus Christ. Martin Knopper, one of our volunteers, said, “I think it is very important to preserve these programs. We need to get these messages out to the people. It is our heritage. I’m so happy to be a part of that.” Notice that comment: “We need to get these message out to the people.” I’m determined to not only preserve these programs, but to get them before an audience of people who are hungry for the Word of God. And with It Is Written’s full-time, 24/7 digital online channel soon to begin operating, the programs produced by It Is Written many years ago will begin to change lives again.

A couple of weeks ago I watched a short segment of a fully restored program. Here’s what I noticed. The program looked different than what we produce today, but the message was powerful! In just moments I was drawn in by Pastor Vandeman’s powerful presentation on the subject of Jesus fulfilling the prophecies of the Bible. Programs like these must be seen again by as many people as possible! It Is Written is an evangelistic, soul-winning ministry. For many years we’ve had this magnificent evangelistic resource sitting in boxes. Now the programs will speak again, and all over the world people will be blessed and drawn to Christ.

Programs like these must be seen again by as many people as possible! These classic programs along with new programming will soon air on our 24/7 Roku channel and other online channels.
