Perfume as an Art For those who managed to resist GOOD GIRL GONE BAD, KILIAN takes it to the max with GOOD GIRL GONE BAD – EXTREME, a limited edition that pushed the original blend’s olfactive allure into excess. GOOD GIRL GONE BAD – EXTREME now joins the core fragrance opus of KILIAN. Two versions of the same scent express seduction’s eternal pull between naughty and nice. The scent is a whirlwind of petals – feminine, uninhibited, luscious and still somewhat pure. Opening with Roses from Turkey and Morocco, and Orange Blossoms from North Africa, this bouquet is further carried by the song of three sirens calling from its core: Indian Tuberose, Egyptian Jasmine Sambac, and Narcissus from France. Choose which side of the coin you wish to play in the game of seduction!

useo Picasso Malaga was created in response to Pablo Picasso’s own desire for his work to be presented in the city where he was born on October 25, 1881. The museum was created thanks to Christine and Bernard Ruiz-Picasso, the artist’s daughter-in-law and grandson, whose donations constitute the core of the collection. The museum was officially opened on October 27, 2003 by Their Majesties King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia of Spain. Today the Museo Picasso Malaga hosts 233 Picasso’s works in its permanent collection. This group of works covers Picasso’s revolutionary innovations, as well as the wide range of styles, materials and techniques he mastered. From his earliest academic studies to the overlapping perspectives of Cubism, and from his experiments in ceramics to his late paintings in the 1970s. > www.museopicassomalaga.org/en

asy to make and refreshingly bitter, the Negroni is said to have been invented in Florence by a dauntless Italian count who demanded that the bartender replace the club soda in his Americano with gin. It was a substitution that launched a thousand riffs. In its hundred-year history, few cocktails have encouraged more frenzied experimentation than the beloved Negroni. Its one-to-one-to-one recipe of gin, Campari and sweet vermouth has become the platform on which generations of drink mixers have left their thumbprint. But how do you mix the perfect version? Start by selecting the right base materials. The key to a great Negroni is finding a ginvermouth pairing that complements – rather than overpowers – the bitter, bold flavors of Campari. Once you zero in on a winning trio, write it down, memorize it, and request it at your favorite bar. You will make the count proud.

he more social media and multitasking reality dominate our lives, the more the sense of “me time” is struggling to penetrate into the modern mentality. Do something for yourself. Do something with yourself. Find some time and give it to yourself. Free your mind. Raise your gaze into the sky for a few minutes. These are things we read daily in psychology articles, we see apps in our Instagram feed with sounds and images that promise to offer us short but valuable relaxation, quizzes on Facebook about how much we need personal mind peace. And somehow, “me time” becomes a visible challenge like a neon sign flashing right before our eyes. No FOMO (Fear Of Missing Out), or jealousy

about what others do, or interest in what’s hot in social media; the trend is “time for me, at last”. The real luxury is #metime. Indeed, plenty of surveys in recent times show how valuable “me time” in our psychology is. The time we spend on doing something we love increases our level of happiness. This way, the urban citizen’s constantly uncharged batteries are rejuvenated; the mind thinks more clearly, perceptions become more acute and success in achieving goals comes closer. “Me time” is not as selfish as it may seem. Its benefits are contagious, they easily become “viral”. Both the people who are close to us and the people we work with can only appreciate that we have greater endurance and better ability to concentrate, are more positive and calm while managing situations and respond accordingly.
The real luxury is #metime. The time we spend on doing something we love increases our level of happiness.

HERE’S HOW “ME TIME” CAN BECOME A WAY OF LIVING EVERYDAY SHELTERS OF HAPPINES S Create moments of personal joy during the day. The few minutes’ time you drink your beverage when it is quiet at home, early in the morning or late in the evening, is a valuable shelter of pleasure. A walk for shopping always has a wondrous effect in psychology – most women would agree. The sports activity you love; a massage the way you like it; an hour you will spend on your favorite book or series or even in the kitchen, creating whatever makes you happy; a brief beauty ritual; a registration to a rhetorical group or a book club; a visit to an art exhibition; a trip, all along from daydreaming to realization. The goal is to consciously enjoy the time, even if it is for10 minutes.
MEDITATION Even if you are meditating for 5 minutes every day, this magical mind exercise can literally change your life for the better. In our times where digital detox is necessary, meditating is the best way for you to spend valuable time with yourself. It takes some practice, thus there are centers especially for introducing us in meditation techniques. The benefit is multi-level: immune system fortified, positive thoughts, clear mind, quality sleep, stress reduced.

MINDFULNES S ME ANS C ONSC IOUSNES S Another word we need to insert in our vocabulary but also our lives. Why live trapped in the past or worry about the future? Stay in the present, live each moment consciously, fully. Consciousness is precisely that: the situation in which one is conscious, aware in here and now, the present moment. In that term “me time” has multiple value; you will fully enjoy all that you offer to your weary self. Of course you need training to learn how to live in the now. There are several integrated self-awareness enhancement programs provided through online courses, sessions or workshops. So, you can even begin today exploring consciousness with simple meditation exercises and relaxation practices or find a professional specialist in mindfulness to guide you for your personal exploration journey.

where they could spend a summer vacation. At this time, in the mid-19th century, social distinctions and the segregation of the classes were still too powerful to break. A successful bourgeois might indeed have the money to enjoy the same things as a member of the upper class, but the two worlds were still kept very much apart. It took several years for this new custom of the summer holiday to become widely established, but soon more and more people in Britain – home of the capitalist revolution – were beginning to discover the many advantages of their new wealth, among them the pleasures of travel. Destinations grew more varied and numerous: from the peaks of the Alps to the coasts of the Mediterranean, from the Middle East to North Africa. Even the poorest members of society had joined in the holiday game, taking cheap vacations at nearby resorts and establishing the idea of the summer holiday as we know it today.

s with all social developments not brought on by violent change, the evolution of the holiday was gradual and occurred over many decades. When the idea of mass tourism was still in its infancy, the foundations were already being laid for the package holiday of today, thanks to a certain Thomas Cook, who in 1841 arranged for 570 persons to travel from Leicester to a rally in Larborough, chartering carriages from the British rail companies and charging the passengers one shilling each for their fare and a meal. In literature, too, travel was beginning to occupy a more prominent position, particularly in the novels of Jules Verne, which were addressed to an educated audience but proved so popular that they did much to familiarize the general public with the idea of travel, whetting ordinary people’s curiosity to see the world and go on distant adventures. Arabic, Moorish, Jewish, Gypsy and Christian influences created an historical mosaic with references throughout the surrounding area. It is one of the 17 autonomous regions of Spain, located in the southern part of the country.

pparently the Andalusian cuisine includes every feature of the Mediterranean, yet many of its elements are linked to the Arabic cuisine. Arabs are the ones who introduced rice, aubergines, artichokes, asparagus and the use of spices into the western world. Mediterranean cuisine is based on olive oil, used raw in salads or cooked in recipes. The production of wine is also one of the region’s main assets, specifically the well-known Sherry, an enhanced white dry wine from Jerez de la Frontera in southwestern Andalusia. This particular wine is a product of Protected Designation of Origin. Inland cuisine consists mainly of meat, vegetables, soups and cooked food, while in the seaside areas dishes include fish and seafood. The cold cuts are numerous, such as the Jamon Iberico, produced exclusively in Spain from the legs of black Iberian pigs. Specifically when it comes from pigs living free in oak forests and only fed acorns, it is called Jamon Iberico de Bellota. If you try Jamon Iberico matured for 36 months, you’ll experience an all different taste; it becomes fuller and deeper, with aromas reminiscent of dry nuts and wet skin. While maturing its flesh becomes even redder by approaching the deep purple, while its fragrances are mixed in a way that can even be confused with the calf. Jamon Serrano is more widespread and comes from the white pig meat living on the Spanish mountain area. Of course you could not go to Spain and not try the traditional paella, but in Andalusia we will find it in its local version, which is called arroz mariner, a mixture of seafood, vegetables and Colombian spices. Other very distinct local flavors
are the local cooked pringa meat in Seville and the habas con jamon (beans with jamon). Sopita de ajo (garlic soup), the rabo de toro (bull’s tail) and the churrascos (grilled pork) are a few more local dishes. Do not miss the chance to try one of the most signature dishes of Malaga, pescaito frito, a delicious fried fish, and also gazpacho, the famous throughout Andalusia cold soup.

eville is the capital of Andalusia, located in the hinterland. Very close to the city flows the Guadalquivir River, where there is a harbor with a distinguished role in Spain’s history; from here on, the trade for the West Indies began. In the old town, it is worth visiting the cathedral of Santa Maria, the largest Gothic temple in the world and one of the biggest churches worldwide. Its construction began in 1401 and was completed in the early 16th century. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. In the city center you will see San Francisco Square and the famous Plaza de Espana, the largest square in the city built in 1928 and an excellent example of the Renaissance period in Spanish architecture. The city tour continues in Alcazar, a set of palaces with very impressive gardens. If you want to see everything about bullfighting, you can visit the Museo Taurino, where paintings, sculptures, photos and impressive costumes are exhibited.

lace of origin of the famous poet Federico Garcia Lorca, Granada is one of the most beautiful cities in Spain. It has been built on three hills, where two rivers, Genil and Darro, join. Both the city and the whole region are distinguished for music, art, poetry and ancient civilization. The beautiful tiny villages, the green plateaus and the stunning beaches of Costa Tropical are only a few of the places to visit. The Alhambra is the red fortress of the Moorish monarchs and certainly the most important monument of the city. It is a tourist attraction of Islamic architecture, recognized as a World Heritage Site. The Cuarto Real de Santo Domingo is a magnificent palace of the 13th century well preserved. Alcazar del Genil, residence of all queens of Granada, is a palace of the 14th century. The old Gypsy
neighborhood is located on Valparaiso hill, in one of the most interesting parts of the city. Inside the caves located in the area, which are well suitably configured, you will enjoy flamenco dance shows. At Generalife (the Garden of Paradise) you will have the chance to admire the magnificent architecture, the lakes, the waterfalls and the fountains. Cartuja, a baroque architecture monastery, started building in 1516 and continued for the next 300 years, though it has never been completed. The monastery was inhabited by monks and laymen, to whom the oath of silence had been imposed. In the interior it is worth seeing Sancta Santorum, perhaps the most interesting baroque art complex in Spain.
MALAGA

he birthplace of the famous painter Picasso, Malaga is the touristic center of Andalusia and the most famous city of Costa del Sol. Cosmopolitan, with attractive architecture, a beautiful historic center, beautiful valleys and amazing sandy beaches, it certainly maintains its tradition. Malaga is located on the western edge of the Mediterranean, on the southern coast of the Iberian Peninsula, where the sun and the warm climate create the ideal summer scenery. Among the area’s most interesting sights are Picasso’s house, the statue of the famous writer Hans Christian Andersen, the San Juan Church and Alameda Boulevard. In August, Feria de Malaga takes place for a week.

At the Museo de Bellas Artes you will admire paintings of the most famous Spanish painters such as Goya, Murillio and Valdes. Also here the most advanced technology museum in the whole country is located, the Museo Vivo de Al-Andalus, in which the visitor can experience the way of life of residents in various periods of Andalusia’s past. Last, La Torre de la Calahorra, a 1369 building next to the Guadalquivir River, exhibits artifacts and documents related to the rich history of Cordova.

THE ARCHITECT Diego Gronda, managing and creative director of Studio Gronda, talks about the challenging project of the brand new Ikos Andalusia in Spain.
W
hat is the number one quality you seek when staying at a hotel? On a resort hotel, in most cases, I look to loosen up and forget of time. When one looks to relax and recharge one’s body and soul, a timeless, serene and friendly-designed hotel can help considerably. Privacy and seclusion are also virtues I look for when selecting a hotel to unwind. I travel continuously around the world spending many nights in different hotels. However, when I want to unwind, I select a hotel that will assist me on my quest. What was your inspiration for lkos Andalusia? Before we drew the first line on paper, we were invited to experience the lkos Lifestyle. As we spent time at each hotel, we witnessed first-hand how time was placed on hold. The serenity we found on each resort was a great source of inspiration. lkos Andalusia is the brand’s first hotel outside Greece and we obviously looked for inspiration in the rich Andalusian culture. One can say that Greece and Spain share a common Mediterranean ethos, however, it is diversity that provides richness to the brand. We aim to create a new and refreshed lkos resort while keeping the brand’s search of excellence in high-end hospitality.
In what ways is lkos Andalusia different from other hospitality projects you sign? One can say that when comparing our design to that found on the top international resort brands, the design standards do not vary considerably. However, the fact that at lkos Resorts guests tend to spend most of their time inside the hotel, made us rethink the different F&B
venues, public and wellness areas in order to keep the guest experience fresh. In a way, we forced ourselves to design each space from a radically different point of view to offer an innovative guest experience where the element of owe and surprise is always present. What was your top priority for lkos Andalusia? Our main priority was to provide a serene and luxurious guest experience. The DNA of lkos Andalusia follows the brand’s continuous search for the ultimate lifestyle resort experience. Greece meets Andalusian’s flair and savoir-vivre. Could you describe your style? I believe that when the search of the ultimate guest experience overwhelms one’s design-ego is when memorable pieces of architecture are created. We conceive spaces, both exteriors and interiors, that engage guests at an emotional level. This is what we strongly believe in when designing a signature project such as lkos Andalusia. Which projects are you working on currently? We are currently designing a high-end 32 villas resort in one of the few virgin peninsulas in the south Phuket Island. We just started a renovation of a heritage country hotel close to the Windsor Castle on the outskirts of London. We are also working on a business hotel for Renaissance Hotels in Barcelona, and we are renovating the public areas of Nobu Hotel in London. Our eclectic global portfolio has always displayed our commitment to hospitality spirit. A passionate spirit always on the look of the next new experience. IKOS RESORTS

THE HIDDEN GEM OF THE AEGEAN Unpredictably unique and cosmopolitan, the island deserves to be known as a cultural mosaic. Τ Ε Χ Τ: D I M I T R I S S TAT H O P O U L O S
HIGHLIGHTS FROM THE HISTORY BOOK
A
ncient Kos was built in 336 BC. The island’s Ancient Agora, reaching 41 acres of land, was one of the largest markets of the known world at the time. Remaining elements of Roman Age are located in the Western Archaeological Zone: The Stadium, the Gymnasium – with the arcade where athletes were training – and Thermes. Famous houses of the time with excellent wall paintings and mosaics have also been preserved through time. The Roman Odeon was built in the 2nd century with a capacity of 750 spectators; fully restored today, hosts performances during the summer months. On the same side of the city, one can visit the only restored residence of the Roman era, Casa Romana, including 36 rooms and 3 interior courtyards. One can see an important complex of castles and fortifications in Kos, most notably the Neratzia Castle located at the port, built by the Knights Ioannites in the mid-14th century. The Byzantine Castle in Paleo Pyli, built in the 11th century and situated on the slopes of Mount Dikaios, is another important construction. Inside the castle, there are three Byzantine temples: Panagia Kastriani, Saint Anthony and Taxiarches. Antimachia Castle, still
inhabited until 1925, is another significant castle of the island. Intensively influenced by the Venetian architecture after 31 years of Italian domination, Kos is characterized by the distinctive urban diversity and architecture. The Town Hall, the Palazzo del Governo, the municipal market operating in a building known as Μercato delle Erbe, the Archaeological Museum and the Albergo Gelsomino Hotel, are all buildings of great architectural value. The Jewish Synagogue and Circolo Italia, where today Cafe Avra is located, are some more traces of the island’s diverse history. The Archaeological Museum, located in Eleftherias Square, hosts rare exhibits that originated in all periods of Kos’s inhabi-

walk in the Avenue of the Palms, one of the most interesting remains of the Italian domination and trademark of Kos, is one of the first things that anyone should do while on the island; knights coats of arms, strong fortifications, unbelievable views and of course hundreds of visitors who want to experience the island’s cosmopolitan aura. Akti Kountourioti, one of the most central points in the city, includes everything – from tourist shops and restaurants to luxurious yachts and fishing boats. The north side leads to the beaches and the famous Averof Street with the ouzo tavernas. Heading south you will meet Akti Miaouli with the Italian buildings and the marina. The best way to explore the city is by renting a bicycle. This way of going around is very common in Kos; the island’s cycle path extends to 13 kilometers and bicycle rental stores are numerous. You will find bicycle parking stands in most of the beaches as well. Leaving the riviera behind and walking down the amazing cobbled narrow streets of the historic center. Life gets intense. Dozens of small shops, traditional tavernas and artistic workshops make a beautiful scenery. Wandering around downtown, a definite must-see is Lotzias Square where the Mosque of Gazi Hassan Pasha and the famous plane tree of Hippocrates are located; according to tradition, Hippocrates was teaching medicine under its shadow or even planted it himself!

os is famous for the beaches. It has an endless coastline, with the two-thirds of it being vast sandy beaches. On the north side of the island, 11 km from the city, we meet the award-winning Tigaki Beach. It features points with umbrellas and sun loungers and free parts and also schools for water sports. Other organized beaches on the north side are Alykes, Marmari and Mastichari. On the south side, from Kefalos to Kardamena, you will find amazing beaches ideal for swimming and sunbathing. Kamari, the immense, beautiful and full of life beach that starts from the port of Kefalos, is on the list of the beaches you must visit; the beach bar and the nearby basilica of St. Stephen, in the shade of the archeological site of the basilicas built in the 5th-6th centuries, along with the view to the islet Kastri are the reasons to do it. If you seek for tranquil moments, choose Kamila Beach. Paradise Beach, the endless sandy beach with the crystal clear waters and the cedar trees, resembles an actual paradise. Marcos sandy beach, with shallow and crystal clear waters, is ideal for families. Magic Beach, the last beach before you leave Kefalos, is also sandy with crystal clear waters. Another sandy and vast beach, as we approach Kardamena, is the Golden Beach. If you are looking for a beach nearby city, popular choices are the beach bars of

02.
The founder of modern medicine, Hippocrates, was born in Kos around the year 460 BC so when you get to the island make sure you visit the garden with just 256 of the plants he used for curing his patients. One of the oldest trees on the planet is the plane tree that – according to tradition – was planted by Hippocrates 2,400 years ago and now reaches a trunk circumference of 11 meters. Now a listed nature monument, it is located in Platanos Square (plant tree square), in the front of the Castle of the Knights. Asklepion, a reference point in the relationship of the island with Hippocrates, is the place where Hippocrates taught medicine.

IKOS RESORTS
We tasted an aromatic Malagouzia – a white wine made of a well-known Greek grape variety – combined with a tasty local cheese, moved on to a red merlot followed by Atheri and Asyrtico, both flavored of the Aegean Sea breeze. Our wine tour of Kos has just began and will bring revelations along the way, including stops in spectacular wineries. Kos has an enormous vinicultural tradition dating back to ancient times, with vineyards located mainly in the northern slopes of Dikaion mountain.
FOR ITS NUMEROUS BEACHES – ESPECIALLY FOR THE FAMOUS KAVO PARADISO BEACH
Crowded or not, sand or pebbles, blue-green water, organized or not, Kos has many crystal clear water beaches. Limnionas, Kochilari, Kamila, Agios Stefanos, Chelona, Mastichari are some excellent options, able to cover for every mood. If you’re looking for tranquility visit the west side of the island. If you seek diversity and fun, you’ll have to travel several kilometers to reach Chilandion bay, best known as Kavo Paradiso Beach. For a magical beach head to Agios Mamas, follow the wooden signs and what you’ll meet will be rewarding – fine sand and cedar trees create a dreamy scenery. Once reaching the beach, walk to the left of the canteen for about 15 minutes to discover a well hidden bay with sand and cedar trees.
05. 04. FOR ITS ARTISTIC JIGSAW PUZZLE OF HISTORY Τhe Ottoman fountains and mosques, the Castle of the Knights but also the buildings from the period of Italocracy and the ancient structures create a platform of balance unexpectedly unique. That is exactly what makes Kos so different – the island preserves every part of its history, ready to share it with the visitor with no restrictions. The period under the occupation of the Knights Ioannites and the Jesuit Order, who built impressive walls and huge strongholds, has been significant for the island. One can also admire the Town Hall, the Government House and the catholic temple of Angus Dei, all buildings that date from the period of Italocracy.
FOR POSIA, THE WELLKNOWN WINECHEESE OF KOS Don’t leave the island without tasting Posia, the popular cheese of Kos that matures in wine sludge – posia, as it’s called in the local dialect that gave it its name. It is produced with goat’s or sheep’s milk and, though all white inside, in the outside it develops a light brown tint – depending on the time the cheese will spend immersed in posia. It is this “posia procedure” that offers the cheese its special taste, with wine notes that deluge the palate, a great companion for every sec or semi-sec wine. Posia is included in the list of Greek products of Protected Designation of Origin (PDO).

THE ARCHITECT Dr. Niki Manou-Andreadis is the architect of Ikos Resorts in Greece and talks about inspiration and creation of good life spaces.
W
hat makes Ikos Aria stand out compared to your other projects? Ikos Aria is the fourth unit of the Ikos Resorts collection. It extends in a magnificent area of 178,000 square meters that ends up on a vast beach with an islet in the background, an archaeological site and a chapel; an ideal location for an architect to be creative! In our plan we included the four-winged hotel’s old, abandoned central building, which we rebuilt, adding new two-story and ground-floor volumes that spread harmoniously throughout the entire site. Respecting all general principles that characterize the design of every Ikos resort – calm and straight lines, earthy shades, natural materials and luminous spaces – we also managed to provide Ikos Aria, which is located in Kos in the southeastern Aegean Sea, with many elements inspired by the insular architecture, its forms and its morphological data.
What was your main goal concerning Ikos Aria? In every hotel we design, I always take time to feel, to really understand the natural space around it, the special characteristics and the peculiarities of the place. In the case of Ikos Aria, as I said before, the site was more than enchanting. With much attention and respect, we have integrated in the area both the new building constructions and the old ones, fully renovated. Our goal was this huge hotel, with its indoor and outdoor spaces, to be completely part of the beauty and the majesty of the nature around it, engendering a sense of calmness and relaxation to each visitor. In your opinion, what is the element that transforms a
“space” into an “environment”, a place where someone wants to spend time? Architectural composition must definitely have a central idea that will be used in each individual solution. If this does not exist, it always results in a contradictory outcome that any visitor can feel. Applying the central architectural concept to all the individual spaces and taking into account the special conditions and needs arising from the functional expansions, a “space” is transformed into an “environment”.
How would you describe your own style? I don’t think the term “style” suits to an architect. It definitely doesn’t suit me. Over the years, I feel like I have formed a clear architectural view that features clean lines, harmony, avoiding exaggeration or clichés just to impress, sustainability and respect for the environment. I try to be consistent in all of these and adjust them according to the functional requirements of each project. What projects do you work on? With my team, we are working very intensively but doing something that we love very much and gives us real joy. Throughout last year, we completed the big project of the Ikos Aria resort, which opened in May 2019. Furthermore, we added to the Sani Resort facilities a number of new important constructions such as the unique Nadal Tennis Club, the Adventure Park, the new Pool Complex at the Sani Beach Hotel, and the wonderful new Pool Lobby-Bar & Restaurant at the Sani Club. At this time my studio is also designing the redevelopment of two major hotel units in Thessaloniki. IKOS RESORTS

he main highlight of the island, Liston walking street, is one of the most famous spots in Corfu, located on the western edge of Spianada, the huge square in Old Town. Trademarks of Liston are the arches, “voltes” as the locals name them, where you will now find many cafes. Liston was constructed in the early 19th century during the French occupation era.

hile in Corfu, you will certainly hear about the Old and the New Fortress. These two emblematic landmarks of the town as well as the whole island are the signature point of Corfu’s history throughout the ages. The Old Fortress marks the eastern end of the city and is built on two characteristic hills-peaks. The peaks gave the island its Latin name “Corfu” – after the Byzantine word “Korifo” that means “City of peaks”. The city was initially built at the onset of the 6th century, during the city’s first inhabitation that made fortification a necessity. Ten centuries later it turns into a military space, and

Does the term “sofrito” bring in mind anything else but thin slices of fried veal with white sauce, plenty of garlic and parsley? Fish choices are numerous just like the relevant recipes with Venetian influences. You will hear about bourdeto, a storyteller dish – a thick fish soup.
CORFU DURING EASTER
C
orfu is one of the most popular destinations during the Easter period. Easter traditions are full of influences from Western European culture. A special custom that dominates the island during the Easter period is polyphonic ecclesiastical music, a distinctive harmonious chant originating in the 17th century on Crete, called Cretan Melo. The liturgy of Saint Spyridon takes place on Palm Sunday
at 11 am. This is a tradition started back in 1630 after the island’s discharge from the plague epidemic. All 18 philharmonic orchestras are participating playing joyful compositions in central parts of the city. It is worth walking around the city and enjoying the unique music. At 9 pm the same day, a concert with the Mantzaros philharmonic takes place, introducing the audience to the spirit and the philosophy of the Holy Week.
THE BEACHES

Sand or pebbles, crowded or isolated, organized or not, the beaches of Corfu will enchant you; every day you can discover a new one. The north part of the island offers long sandy beaches with shallow waters, while in the southeast coast they are narrow, with sand and pebbles and usually calm seas. The café is now in the hands of the family’s third generation and maintains its style unaltered. The simple wooden benches, the metal tables, the wood stove, the old black and white photos and the few, basic food staples in the open shelves create a beautiful scenery. Here you will have the chance to experience the true life of the island, to meet and talk with locals and come closer to the local way of life.
03. FOR THE FAMOUS KUMQUAT AND ITS PRODUCTS Τhe wonderful-smelling kumquat is cultivated on the island since 1924 while it arrived in Corfu by a British agronomist who planted a tree in his garden. Systematically grown in Japan, Taiwan and the Philippines, in Corfu we mainly find it in the northwestern part of the island and is the raw material of many traditional delicacies such as spoon sweet, loukoumi, jam and liqueur.
05. 04. FOR PASTITSADA, SOFRITO, BIANCO AND BOURDETO These signature dishes, all of them iconic Corfiot recipes, are enough to be our gastronomic guide. At Douka’s we tried the famous patsitsada, a meat stew with an explosive mixture of 15 spices, served with thick spaghetti. Going back to the Venetian period, sofrito – made with thin slices of veal cooked with wine, plenty of garlic and parsley – is a musttaste. For the best version of bianco, the lemon fish with the white sauce, we dined at Bellou’s in Benitses.
FOR DINING AT THE TAVERN OGNISTRA IN A 19TH CENTURY PROTECTED MONUMENT The partly preserved settlement of Palia (old) Peritheia, the oldest of the island dating back to the mid-14th century, is located in mount Pantokratoras (The Almighty) and once included 130 houses of Venetian architecture. Over the years the settlement has been abandoned but now there’s a new interest in restoring and purchasing the residences. Some restaurants now operate in this beautiful scenery such as Ognistra, which is hosted in an historical preserved monument of 1872. There you can taste the famous tsigareli with pickled greens and a spicy sauce.

FOR THE NATURE AND THE ROADS LESS TRAVELED To escape the summer traffic, why not take the peaceful road from Gomati to Ouranoupolis, or explore the less popular parts of the third foot of Halkidiki, Stageira and Strymonikos, away from the fashionable resorts and crowds. Explore the 4x4 trails through the mountains, from Vourvourou to Marmaras with the imposing mass of Itamos, the tree-clad mountain rising to more than 800m from sea level, covered in black pines, still entirely unspoiled by human development. And Dragoudeli, the wild life sanctuary, with all the magical charm of a natural world still untouched by man.
FOR THE VILLAGES OF PARTHENON OF THE NORTH AND PALAIA NIKITI Parthenonas, 10 kilometers from Marmaras, an abandoned and forgotten village until the late 1980s, is definitely worth exploring. With its unique traditional architecture and stone-paved streets, this is a village of unusual beauty – with fabulous views out over the Aegean. It has much of the charm of the old villages of mount Pelion or the Zagorohoria, with the added attraction of being just 10 minutes’ drive from the sea. Another must-go destination is Palaia Nikiti, a beautifully preserved old village, with fine traditional houses, overlooked by the Church of Aghios Nikitas. A wonderful example of a community that genuinely respects its architectural heritage.
05. 04. FOR ITS GASTRONOMY Halkidiki is not only stunningly beautiful and historical but also a gourmet destination with excellent restaurants and tavernas. It is for sure one of the most beautiful areas in Greece, with exotic waters and beaches, tropical colors and crystal clear waters that revive the visitor with their coolness – instead of making you drowsy like tepid soup as elsewhere. Halkidiki is one of the most gastronomically developed areas in the country, its restaurants being awarded many prestigious awards, surpassing famous islands like Mykonos or Santorini. Among the superb seascapes, exquisite forested mountains and lovely villages, visitors discover excellent tavernas and charming fine dining restaurants that offer that distinct taste to their vacation.
FOR THE BEACHES AND THE BIG BLUE You only need to visit a handful of its innumerable beaches to realize that all you really need for a holiday here is a bathing costume – although there are still a few deserted beaches where even that can be dispensed with. Access by car can be difficult when visiting some of the most remote beaches, but you can explore these locations by boat and you will have a better chance of finding some of the undiscovered coastline beauties. Bousoulas, Vourvourou, Kavourotripes, Tristinika and Paliouri – magical names for magical beaches, with clear and blue waters that, once experienced, no other beach will ever seem the same. Tip: stay till sunset.

INTERVIEW
ORDINAL DINNER TABLE FOR CASSINA.
did you start experimenting with light, what was that fascinated you? I have always been attracted to light because it is a very poetic medium. After spending many years exploring my approach to design, in 2017 I decided to set up my own brand. At that point I focused on lighting because it was easier for me to manage. Then, in 2011 Flos approached me, because they really liked what I was doing, and they suggested that I created a line for them and more light came to the picture. So it was by chance, I may say, that after all these years most of the people know me as a light designer.
HOW
What was the biggest challenge you faced when establishing your brand in 2007? Starting from scratch, that was the biggest challenge. I didn’t have any financial support and I knew that I had to do it all by myself. It was a risk but at the same time I decided that this was the best way forward. At the time I was already in the design world for 10 years and I had realized that no brand is willing to work with a designer who is unknown, they needed the safety of working with an established designer as they wanted to sell the name as much as the products. So after many years of efforts to break into that circle I realized that I was wasting my creative energy. It was clear I needed to evolve, to 78

let my work shift to the next level and the only way forward was by actually producing my own pieces. It was a conscious decision. The very first pieces that were produced at the time were pieces that I strongly believed in. Most of them became indeed popular and this is how it all started. Establishing your name while working for a big company. How do you manage to juggle the two? For me both are equally exciting. In the sense that as a designer I don’t differentiate between the work. The sole difference I see between the two is that with Flos I try to implement a project that technologically is far more ambitious. Projects that require bigger investment are easier to take place through a big brand – they simply can justify high production costs, and they implement challenging projects.
In the last couple of years you have also been working with a number of other companies, not just in the lighting area. Are we going to see more work in this direction? The first brand that invited me was Herman Miller. Then Cassina and B&B followed. It has been 3 years now that I am developing different kinds of objects in the field of furniture. I am interested in meaningful, thoughtful collaborations that make sense, I am not interested in spreading my name. When I feel that I can contribute with something new, that the challenges are there and exciting, then I do it, otherwise there will be always somebody else who can do it.
INTERVIEW
BEOSOUND EDGE FOR BANG & OLUFSEN.
Do you follow the work of other designers? I try to, but it is very difficult to find the time to invest in that. Usually on my own free time I choose to see artists’ work. That is what I find mostly inspiring, since most artists possess a certain level of freedom when it comes to their work.
Why would you say this is so? Is it because design is a more commercial form of art? Not only that. The design world these days is oversaturated. There are so many companies and so many designers out there, and it seems they are running out of ideas. And when they realize this, they start looking at what people did in the past. The pressure of producing more objects is so big that I think in the end everything looks the same because people simply have run out of ideas. At the same time, companies try to pursue a language that seems to be
popular. This lack of originality is very sad. When companies sense the success of another company with a specific product, they focus in developing something “in the style of”… This is why we end up with so many objects that look alike. Is there also lack of risk? Lack of risk, lack of imagination and lack of commitment to hard work. I believe that great ideas only come after hard work. As a designer you have the duty to believe in your work and actually breathe the real you in the product. What would you like people to think of when coming across one of your products, when coming across your work? I want them to really feel individuality. I want them to see originality, to see the real me. This is something that I really try for.

t the age of 14 she became number one pop star of France with her debut album M&J and the song Joe le taxi. At age 18 she received a César Most Promising Actress Award for her debut performance in the film Noce Blanche by Jean-Claude Brisseau. She became Chanel’s muse at the age of 19 when Jean-Paul Goude “captured” her beauty by transforming her into a paradise bird for the Coco perfume campaign. Undoubtedly a child star-phenomenon, Vanessa Paradis was introduced to the world with a spectacular start and continued with an impressive track, both in her career as a musician, an actress and a model, as well as her personal life. Among the highlights of this journey, her collaboration with the French music scene legend Serge Gainsbourg for her second album Variations sur le même t’aime, her seven Victoires de la Musique awards (or Grammy of France), her performances next to A-list actors such as Gérard Depardieu, Alain Delon and Jean-Paul Belmondo, and an alternative-glamorous, ordinary life for 15 years with Hollywood’s unbearably sexy “bad kid” Johnny Depp, the father of her two children Jack and Lily-Rose. Today, at age 46, the miniature muse with the sexy gap between the front teeth opens a new chapter in her life with the French director, painter, writer and screenwriter Samuel Benchetrit and records her new album without losing her place in the exquisite club of Chanel girls, where she also introduced her beautiful 19-year-old daughter. 82

You came back to the big screen with two unconventional roles – in Knife + Heart by Yann Gonzalez and Photo de famille by Cécilia Rouaud – but not as a protagonist. I do not care how big the role is, as long as I like it, as long as it gives me joy. Each role is a new adventure with a new team and this collectivity is all the more important to me. Both films have the signature of two passionate creators with a different but equally interesting view.
For the first time you entered the Cannes Film Festival nominations in 2018 with Knife + Heart, a film that received quite contradictory reviews. I do not know what the critics wrote. What I know is that I enjoyed every moment – my collaboration with the director, the co-actors, and all that we were doing together. In Cannes everything is superlative, good and bad reviews are too. I am well-meaning by nature. And every time I am surprised at how aggressive the critics are – behind the security of their computer – devaluing the time and effort put in a movie. It is unfair, but I guess that is how the game is played in such big festivals, where movies are overexposed.
However, do you admit the peculiarity of the film and your role as a producer of gay porn movies? Clearly this is not classic cinema. In France, although there are great talents, we do not cease to be gingery about any new creator proposing a different approach. On the contrary, we are much more receptive to foreigners. As for the role, I did not hesitate, I was not even worried about ruining my image! After all, cinema is just that: entering roles other than your personality. Except for your first movie Noce blanche (1989), which gave you the César Award, what moments would you highlight in your acting career? Despite the difficult conditions, Noce blanche is a milestone film for me; in that film I was introduced to the magic of acting. Elisa by Jean Becker (1995) was also very important for me; we had such great time during the shootings! Another special film was Girl on the Bridge by Patrice Leconte (1999), after which I made a long pause to focus on my family and to work on my music.
How do you approach a character? Cinema and music require two completely different approaches. On stage you can be yourself and perform the song as you like. On a film set you do what the director asks you to do. I really like to be guided, I am very obedient. I find it all the more interesting every time a director unveils different aspects of me. Otherwise, every role would be just a repetition...
You live between Paris and Los Angeles. Are you not interested in the American cinema? I do not even have an agent there. I am not willing to force myself and do things I would not do in France. The only time I participated in an American production was in John Torturro’s Fading Gigolo, who actually offered me the role; I did not go through casting to play a “French female”. What are these castings like? The truth is that I have not been to many (laughs). I would say that they are neutral, neither exciting nor humiliating. They see one girl after another and none of them will ever know why she has not been selected! If I was interested in a specific director I would of course go to a casting, but I’m not after them. Your daughter is already doing films... This was my big concern before she even started. But she does so well and she is so careful that I’m not worried at all now, I am only proud of her. She is beautiful, talented and adaptable. She is made for it. And of course I’m happy she is working with something that really pleases her.
I have said “no” to big productions, but I do not regret it. That’s what my heart felt like at the time and that’s what I did. Something I have always wanted but I have never been able to do is to play in a musical.

SILK DRESS AND HEELS CHANEL, LINEA PIU. * IKOS MAGAZINE BY MADAME FIGARO EXPRESSES ITS GRIEF FOR KARL LAGERFELD’S PASSING.
Are you a cinephile? Knowing many real cinephile people, I would say not really. But I am happy every time I discover a new masterpiece, such as Max Ophüls’s Madame de..., which I recently saw. Shocking movie!
You are about to star for a second time in one of your husband’s, Samuel Benchetrit, movies. Are you his muse? Although our collaboration started a bit late for this (laughs), I admit that I would be flattered to become the feminine version of Antoine Duanel (note: a hero in the films of François Truffaut) for someone. Have you turned down many roles? I have said “no” to big productions, but I do not regret it. That’s what my heart felt like at the time and that’s what I did. Something I have always wanted but I have never been able to do is to play in a musical. Even today I would do it, although at the age of 20 one has a different energy. Why not writing a musical yourself? I would never think of directing or writing a script. I am so insecure as an actress, even during castings I don’t feel comfortable. Directing is not my thing, though I indefinitely admire the work of directors. On the contrary, singing comes natural. I have written every song on my latest album and that is what counts the most for me: doing beautiful things. You have been working with Chanel since the ’90s. What does Chanel mean to you? With Chanel I discovered fashion – the fashion world, to be exact – though from very young age I adored clothing. However, at the age of 18 I observed everything through a different perspective; the background, the preparation, the photo shootings, the campaigns. To be introduced to this whole universe by such an important name was a real gift. Fashion for me is something that makes you feel beautiful, that gives you joy and Chanel is on top in aesthetics and quality, all thanks to Karl of course. I like working with him so much, becoming his “doll”. He has the best ideas and a rare talent for improvisation. When I pose for Karl, it is like playing in a movie. I like the way he treats his colleagues. He respects them, esteems them and encourages them, so they all give their best. It is important for people to be passionate about their work, to be polite and cooperative, it should always be this way. Respect for team work is what makes all the difference. IKOS RESORTS

hen temperatures rise it is time to trade the heavy formulas and dark colors for lighter textures and bright hues. Add a bronzer and you will have a youthful sun-kissed appearance, a makeup trend that will forever be in style and that you can achieve in a few easy steps.
THE SKIN
Summer is all about warmth so the rich earth tones are always a safe choice. You can try different textures – matte, sheer or creamy – but avoid metallic shades, especially in the morning. Also stay clear of harsh black eyeliner and opt for softer colors, like brown or soft blue.
THE LIPS Lip colors in nude, pink or peach hues always emphasize a golden tan and are the perfect choice for a natural summer look. Since you are looking for a dewy and glowing result opt for glossy textures or if you want a more impressive look, try a liquid lip color with a metallic hue, like bronze or rose gold.
During spring and summer time try to avoid dark colors and go for pencils and shadows in bold, bright hues that flatter the skin.
FABRIGE CORMY//MADAME FIGARO
The key for you summer look is the “no makeup makeup”. Set aside the thick layers of foundation and allow your skin to breathe. This is the time to choose a foundation with sheer coverage, a tinted moisturizer or a BB cream. Add a light dab of a creamy blush on the cheeks and swipe some bronzer on the spots that naturally catch the sun; the result will be a naturally radiant and dewy complexion.

SUMMER MUSTS 1_ Highlighters are easy to use and give instant glow. Apply where the sun naturally hits your features, down the center of your nose, above the brow and on the highest point of your cheeks to give light to the whole face. 2_ Face mists keep your skin hydrated and your makeup in place. Keep one always in your bag and use it whenever necessary. 3_ Mascara is always a must-have. You don’t want to overdo it when you are going for a natural makeup look so don’t apply too many layers and, if your skin is fair, try a mascara in brown color.

bronzer and a blush or a bronzer and a highlighter or two shades of a bronzer. Just remember that you don’t want your face to look too bronzed so you should use small amounts of the product and add gradually until you get the perfect look. Last but not least, make sure to choose a matte bronzer for the summer otherwise the result is going to be too shiny, especially under the sun light. The best way to find the ideal bronzer is to try out a few in the store, so you don’t end up with one which doesn’t work for your skin and which doesn’t suit your style.

You cannot fake a sun-kissed glow without a bronzer. Whether you prefer a soft look or whether you want to emphasize your tan the bronzer is the way forward. First you must choose the texture that suits you. Powders are easy to use and offer a matte result. Creamy products may be more tricky to apply but will give a more radiant and natural complexion. Whatever your choice, you will have to use at least two different shades. Start with a shade slightly darker than your face’s natural color all over the face. Apply the product with a brush and wait for it to settle before retouching. Use a lighter shade on selected areas of the face, such as the cheekbones, the nose bridge and the forehead. You can combine different products in order to shade and highlight, for example a

women’s fragrances because of their multiple facets: they have a delicate aspect but also a fleshy scent that can be lust-inciting when combined with the right ingredients. Most of these white blossoms grow mainly in warm climates and exotic countries. They have been known for many decades among perfumers but up until the recently obtaining their scent was expensive and time consuming. But since new and 130

less inexpensive methods of extracting white flower’s oil have been developed, perfumers started using them in some famous classics, like Frédéric Malle’s Carnal Flower or Estée Lauder’s Private Collection Tuberose Gardenia. Wearing a white flower perfume will boost your self-confidence and make you feel special. Its sweet, sensual smell is extremely attractive, that is why more and more women – and men – are getting addicted to it. Don’t forget that fragrances with white floral notes can be quite intense so they are better suited for a special occasion, like a dinner party, than every day use.

Wearing a green or fruity scent will make you feel at ease with any situation and may bring back memories of a holiday or a trip by the sea or the mountain – depending on whether it has aquatic or herbal ingredients. However, perfumers have been including some fresh, floral and fruity notes, in more feminine and somewhat sensual fragrances in order to express the contemporary, modern millennial. This young woman is seeking for a more subversive and less predictable perfume, something unique that combines unusual elements.

en’s grooming routine should be easy and straight forward. There is no need for too many products that you will probably not use. It is however necessary to follow a simple, daily routine that will guarantee a better looking complexion and hair. Start with a good cleanser. You shouldn’t use harsh soaps or face scrubs that make your skin dry and older-looking. Go for a gentle cleanser that will remove dirt and oil and, at the same time, will keep your skin hydrated. Next, invest in a good razor that fits your skin sensitivity and beard coarseness and combine it with a moisturizing shaving cream or gel. Don’t ever skip your facial moisturizer. An after-shave hydrates and soothes the skin after shaving but a moisturizer should be used every morning and evening to give your skin a soft touch and a youthful look. When it comes to hair care buy high quality, preferably natural, cleansing and grooming products. This way you will have the look that you want without risking your hair’s health.

THE STAR CHEFS OF IKOS RESORTS
DAVID IBARBOURE JOINED THE IKOS FAMILY FOR THE OLIVA RESTAURANT IN IKOS ARIA RESORT.
DAV I D IBARBOURE
Born on May
20, 1985, David Ibarboure spent his childhood in the kitchens of La Table des Frères Ibarboure – the restaurant owned by his father and uncle – where he discovered his passion for cooking. Years later he placed his abilities at the disposal of numerous starred restaurants. He went from L’Oasis Courchevel to the Paul Bocuse group and spent 5 years alongside Pierre Gagnaire in London and Hong Kong. His culinary arts have always stood out, which is why, at the age of 30, he can be counted among the ranks of the grand chefs. Thus, in 2008 he took up the kitchen at Briketenia – his old, family hotel restaurant. Together with his father they evolved the cuisine, retaining its Basque heart, and in 2010 David and Martin received a Michelin star. 2014 saw the hotel modernized and the Briket’Bistro created, a place playing homage to the produce and wine of the region. In 2015 David was named a French master chef and he went international, opening a Briketenia in Hong Kong. In 2019 he starts collaborating with the Ikos Resorts collection for the OLIVA Spanish
à la carte restaurant, at the brand new Ikos Aria on Kos Island. In his own words: “I am very pleased to work with Ikos for OLIVA, in the new Ikos Aria. I will be able to share my passion for cooking and try to transmit the Basque cuisine while trying to combine our products with those from Greece, something that I find really interesting”.
LEF TERIS L AZAROU Lefteris Lazarou is the first Greek chef to receive a Michelin star for cooking Greek cuisine, considered one of the pioneers of Modern Greek Cuisine, mostly due to the fact that he was the one who dared to draw inspiration from traditional Greek cuisine and its recipes and to include traditionally “humble” types of fish, such as the garfish or the angler, in his avant-garde creative cuisine. Many of his signature dishes are considered “classics” and have been copied over and over again, creating a unique culinary path in which many others followed. He has been a guest lecturer on matters of Greek cuisine in the Culinary Institute of America and had the honor to serve some of the most influential personalities of contemporary

He was literally born and raised in the kitchen, as he started working from a very young age alongside his father in the award-winning Etrusco family restaurant in Corfu. The Michelin-starred Greek chef shares with us his views on the new trends in global gastronomy.
2_ TRADITION AND CREATION According to Ettore Botrini “tradition is the key to the future, as long as you know how to rightly deploy it, which parts you should keep and which you should discard. You certainly cannot have a future without a past, but you must know what you are doing. In KERKYRA restaurant at the Ikos Dassia resort, for instance, we serve a 100% authentic Corfiot cuisine – the local cuisine of this beautiful island as authentic as it could be – but with a modern touch. The most characteristic dishes, like pastitsada or sofrito, are served here, but always with a small twist. We take the traditional recipes and we help them evolve ”.
1_ A NEW-FOUND VERSION OF SIMPLICITY. According to Ettore Botrini “the global gastronomy setting is changing. People want simpler things. You can see that by the way the restaurant business is evolving global-wise. Even top chefs opt for back to the basics: the best seasonal ingredients in simple and delicious dishes. Let us not forget that Italian cuisine has always been the cuisine of ingredients, a ‘poor’ cuisine based on top products. If you taste a sea bass straight from the waters of Mount Athos, you will never want to eat another sea bass in your life. The local produce in Halkidiki is blessed, and I don’t want to sound extravagant, but it is true. The tomatoes here are like honey, the olives and the olive oil are pure gold. Take a chunk of bread and dip it in the Halkidiki green olive oil, sprinkle it with a little bit of thick sea salt and put it in your mouth; if you do that, you have the whole of Greece in your mouth. That is the way you will begin your lunch or dinner in OUZO restaurant in Halkidiki. Then you can taste trahana, one of the healthiest and most delicious types of pasta you will ever have the chance to taste in your whole life. Trahana and

Its unique taste is represented through a perfectly creamy fennel risotto, which allows all the aromas and flavors to blend into a unique outcome. Lefteris Lazarou didn’t restrict himself only to the island of Corfu, but also spread his scouting to the nearby Ionian islands. So in Ikos Dassia you will find the amazing salami from the island of Lefkada and a wide cheese selection from all seven islands. 3_ KOS, A BRAND NEW AEGEAN CULINARY EXPERIENCE On the other side of the country now, the brand new Ikos Aria on the stunning island of Kos and its very own OUZO restaurant will offer you a culinary tour to the whole of the Aegean Sea. So, take a seat next to the water, let your eyes gaze all over the eternal blue, take a sip of the ouzo, the tsipouro, the raki, the mastiha or whichever other Greek spirit lies in your glass and welcome to the pure essence of Greek hospitality. DO IT THE
VEGAN WAY
Unless you have been living in a cave, on the top of a mountain, during snowstorms, you must be aware of the fact that veganism is becoming “the new black”. T E X T: N E L LY K A L A M A R A
W
e cannot hide from evolution, that is a fact. But there are ways to make the planet a safer home for all. At the time of speaking, 1 in 8 Britons choose to lead a vegetarian or vegan lifestyle, and the number of strictly vegans in the UK has tripled in the past 5 years. During the last decade, the term “vegan” has become more and more present in our daily lives, starting with vegan dishes and menus appearing in our favorite joints and evolving into the openings of new 100% vegan restaurants and even vegan clothing and vegan cosmetic brands. Veganism is a strong contemporary trend, but it is not as recent as one might think, as vegans have been around for decades and most religions include “vegan periods” of worship; they might not be named “vegan” but the result is the same still. So, it seems ethical nutritional habits have been around much longer than the last 50 years. But let’s take things from the top.
DEFINITION OF VEGANISM
W H AT D O V E G A N S E AT ?
According to The Vegan Society, the vegan diet and practices were already formed by 1944, but it was as late as 1949 before Leslie J.
There are multiple ways to embrace a vegan lifestyle, but in general all vegans share a plant-based diet which excludes all animal goods, beginning with any kind of meat and fish of course, as well as shellfish, insects, dairy, eggs and honey. All of the above and the nutrition value derived from them can be easily replaced with fruits, vegetables, nuts, grains, seeds, beans and legumes, but one should always look out for nutritional deficiencies, especially in Vitamin D, calcium, iron and B12. Things you should include in your diet are:
Cross pointed out that the society lacked a definition of veganism. The society was first registered as a charity in August 1964, but its assets were later transferred to a new charity, when it also became a limited company in December 1979. By winter 1988 a definition was in use – although the phrasing has changed slightly over the years – and remains so today. So, veganism is defined as: “A philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude – as far as is possible and practicable – all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of humans, animals and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals”.
‣ Nuts and seeds which contain 15-20g protein per 100g. ‣ Beans and lentils which include about 10-20g protein per 100g. ‣ Soya products – tofu in particular – which includes about 8g of protein
per 100g. Soya milk and soya yogurt are also rich protein sources. ‣ Calcium-fortified tofu, soya milk, breakfast cereals, orange juice. ‣ Products rich in iron such as beans, lentils, peas, tofu, nuts, raisins, dates, kale, broccoli, spinach, wholegrain rice.

COMMON VEGAN DIETS There are many ways to embrace a vegan diet. These are the most commonly found around the world.
• THE STARCH SOLUTION
A low-fat, high carb vegan diet similar to the fruitarian but with cooked starches, e.g. potatoes, rice and corn instead of fruits.
• WHOLE-FOOD
• RAW TILL 4
Permits a wide variety of whole plant products, such as fruits, vegetables, whole grains, legumes, nuts and seeds.
A low-fat vegan diet combining the two above categories – raw food until 4pm and cooked plant-based meals from 4pm and afterwards.
• RAW-FOOD
It is based on raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds or plant foods cooked at temperatures below 48°C.
• THE THRIVE DIET
• FRUITARIAN
• JUNK-FOOD
A raw-food vegan diet that limits fat-rich plants, such as nuts and avocados, and relies mainly on raw fruits and soft greens instead.
Υou can be a vegan who eats junk. This vegan diet is based on mock meats and cheeses, fries, and other processed vegan types of food.
Plant-based, whole foods, raw or minimally cooked.
5 STEPS TO VEG ANISM If you like the idea of a vegan lifestyle, but you think it’s hard to follow, here are some pros’ advice to make your transition a piece of (vegan) cake. Veganism doesn’t have to be a mystery. Make the transition to a plant-based diet easier and more accessible. MAKE THE RIGHT CHOICES

Going vegan is no excuse to begin eating junk food or neglecting your health. Being vegan does not mean you suddenly become 100% healthy and immune to all, so you still need to follow a balanced and healthy vegan diet, providing you with all the vitamins and nutrients needed.

Like all changes in life, the decision to go vegan takes time to become an everyday reality. It does not matter if your best friend went vegan overnight, you can do it in your own way and at your own pace. Apart from the numerous vegan societies worldwide, there are also social media groups and clubs where you can join up with people that have made the same choice. They can help you from the simplest of things, such as “where can I find vegan ice-cream?”, to the toughest ones, “my best friend makes fun of my decision to go vegan”.

one to get totally accustomed to veganism, but it does take some time. Do always keep in mind the reasons that urged you to make this choice and don’t give up. You will get there, if you really want to, don’t let small slip-ups discourage you.
