Tin Building is one of two surviving major structures of the celebrated Fulton Fish Market, meticulously disassembled and recreated 32 feet east of its original location by SHo Architects.
Interior design by Roman and Williams Buildings and Interiors and Cass Calder Smith Architecture sought to honor the history and legacy of the site taking inspiration from the 1920s and ‘30s heyday and adapting it for a contemporary context. Drawing on extensive research into markets from around the world, Roman and Williams layered in traditions and features unearthed on their travels to create a global market for the ages.
The building is anchored by materials–ribbons of brass, turned wood details, marble surfaces, handmade tiles in maritime blues and greens, and archways. Restaurants and retail each with their own distinct identities and designs–punctuate the space, creating texture, energy, and a journey of senses and discovery.
T. Brasserie, a French brasserie with Art Nouveau–style tilework, marble tabletops and counters and a contemporary take on a Moroccan tile floor celebrates the country’s classic fare.
The House of the Red Pearl, a clandestine fine dining restaurant serving Chinese inspired dishes that marry the elegance of Jean-Georges and the flavor of the East, tucked away for a feeling of discovery. Cinematic, glamorous and romantic, the design features velvet-upholstered banquettes and horseshoe-style armchairs, walls clad in gold-on-red Chinoiserie wallpaper, and softly glowing lanterns overhead.
A true marketplace at its core, Tin Building is anchored by its market and retail offerings, sourced locally wherever possible, most notably, Central Market, full of daily rotating sustainably sourced meats, seafood, cheeses, produce and ready to eat items. Carefully curated retailofferings are integrated throughout the building in three separate outposts, emphasizing all-natural and best-in-class ingredients.
Seeds & Weeds, a sustainable and artisanal plant-based eatery that embraces the fresh ingredients of the day including Olive Oil
Fried Artichokes, Stir-Fried Summer Beans with Yuba and Spicy Garlic Glaze and Cornmeal-Crusted Baby Trumpet Mushrooms with Grenada Pepper Dip and Pluot. The design features light, natural woods, muted geometric tiles, verdant leather banquettes, and sun-dappled plants on open shelves in the windows giving the space a bright and airy feel.
