CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS Registered Holsteins, reconnecting with old friends and making new ones, the 2019 Illinois Senior Holstein Convention was a tremendous success! This year’s convention was held February 1st and 2nd in Greenville and was hosted by the Gateway Holstein Club. Convention chairs, Ron and Karen Schaufelberger, put together an incredible event with the help of hosts Connie, Michael and Jennifer Turley of Rolling Lawns Farm. Friday afternoon, executive and board meetings were held. Later that day, Lucas and Michelle Clanton welcomed guests in the hospitality room sponsored by STGenetics. That evening, the Presidents of the Illinois Holstein Association and National Holstein Association USA Presidents from Illinois met for a Presidents’ Dinner. Saturday’s festivities kicked off with a welcome from Illinois Holstein Association President Ed Smith and a national update from Holstein Association USA President Boyd Schaufelberger to start the annual meeting. Following the meeting, attendees enjoyed a tour of Turley’s new milk processing facility and a glass of delicious Registered Holstein milk with lunch. The Illini Futures Sale was held in the afternoon followed by ice cream from Ices Plain & Fancy (view a video of them making ice cream with liquid nitrogen on the IL Holstein Facebook page). Thank you to the Turley family of Rolling Lawns Farm for hosting us at The Milk House! The afternoon alternate program toured the DeMoulin Museum in Greenville. The convention concluded with an evening banquet and hospitality. Dave Fischer served as the emcee and Illinois Holstein breeders were recognized. These breeders are included on the cover and featured on page 30 of the Midwest Holsteins section of this issue. The Illinois Holstein Association was honored to have Holstein Association USA CEO John Meyer as the guest speaker. NATIONAL BOARD
Hello Illinois Holstein members and guests, Happy New Year! How did we get here so fast? A new year, new challenges, and hopefully we will see a turn around in milk prices and a stronger cow market. We just had a very successful State Convention that was very well attended, thanks mainly to the convention chairpersons - Ron and Karen Schaufelberger. You two did an outstanding job! Everything went off without a hickup. Thank You! Of course that is really not surprising because Ron was co-chairman along with Dale Drendel about four years ago when the National Convention was held at St. Charles where they did an outstanding performance chairing that event. The meetings were held at The Milk House. For those of you who weren’t there, The Milk House is one of only two new milk processing plants in the United States to start production in 2018! The new facility is owned and operated by Rolling Lawns Farm family under the management of none other than Michael Turley. A class act, top notch facility! I never tasted milk that good before. There is no doubt in my mind you will be very successful with your venture with the vision you have for the future. Thank you Connie, Michael, and Jennifer for being such gracious hosts. We had a successful futures sale also, thanks to sale chairman Herb Schmiedeskamp, Larry Kleiner, auctioneer, Gary Janssen, pedigree man, and everyone else who volunteered their services. Thank You! I thought we had an excellent banquet also with very good food, excellent homemade pies, really good fellowship, and an excellent performance by Dave Fischer as emcee! John Meyer, CEO of Holstein USA, who was guest speaker, received a standing ovation. Congratulations to all of the award winners also. Their pictures will be in the pages that follow. Our banquet was one of the best attended banquets in the last several years with 120 in attendance. We were honored to have the CEO of Holstein USA, John Meyer attend our convention along with Joann Hartman, former National President, Boyd Schaufelberger, current National President, Ron Schaufelberger, former National Director, Dale Drendel, current National Director, Gary Janssen former Red and White Association President, and several former IL Holstein Association Presidents. For IL not being a dairy state, Holstein USA has certainly benefited from IL leadership. Thank you to all who have served in the past and present. Last but not least, Michelle and Lucas Clanton did an excellent job being in charge of the hospitality room! Thank You! Too bad the Comfort Inn didn’t have a bigger room we could have used. I want to thank this past year’s Exec Committee and Board of Directors for working with me. Thank You to Sarah, Carol, and Stephanie for a job well done! I look forward to working with the new Exec Committee and the new Board of Directors this coming year. Also, welcome the new dairy bowl coaches, Tricia Zehr, John Mitchell, and Mat Faulkner. I’ll leave you with this: The wife who drives from the back seat is no worse than the husband who cooks from the dining room table. Until next time,
DUTCHESS DOMAIN Hello Illinois Holstein enthusiasts, I hope you all have thawed out from the polar vortex. Mother Nature sure has not been kind to us, but spring is coming! Which also means Spring Thing is around the corner. I hope to see many junior members in Peoria on February 23rd-24th! Stay warm and don’t forget spring is coming!

Dear Holstein Breeders, We are now three months into 2019, and we here in the upper Midwest have been reminded of the cold temperatures and wind chills of the late 1970’s and early 1980’s. If there is any positive here, it is that the extremes usually do not last for long and spring is hopefully not far away. Now that the final numbers for 2018 are in, we know that females registered or identified reached an all-time record of 748,543. This represents a 1% increase (5683 animals) over the previous high set in 2017. Your Association is working with a higher percentage of dairy farms than ever before. Your sales representatives deserve a lot of credit for this growth. The continuing IT project has helped with processing orders correctly and returning them in a timely manner to you. Online transfers are now being easier and faster than ever! The national board has not met since last November, however, we board members along with association members have been active by serving on several committees. The Audit Committee has been updated on current financial trends. The Nominating Committee is working diligently to find nominees for the 2019 board or officer elections. The Legislation Committee has been working hard to support the Dairy Pride Act, calling for the word “milk” to be used only with real dairy products. Thanks to everyone who is willing to take the time and responsibility of keeping our association strong and moving forward during this challenging time. Many states have held their annual meetings by now. Congratulations to everyone who has been recognized by their respective states! John Meyer, Holstein USA CEO, delivered his “State of the Association” address at the California meeting. It is available for you to view on the Holstein USA website or on Youtube.The latest chapter of Holstein America was aired on RFD TV early February. If you missed watching it, Holstein website or Youtubegives you another option. The Judge’s Conference will be held in conjunction with the Mideast Spring Show, March 28th, in Columbus, Ohio. Attendance once every five years is required to remain on the Holstein Judges List. Advance registration is suggested but late registrations will be accepted. Look for more information on the website or contact your Holstein representative. Upcoming spring sales will offer excellent chances to add fine genetics to your herd. The website of Holstein Marketplace is also an excellent opportunity for you to add to your herd. Holstein Marketplace Sires, new since midJanuary 2019, offers more selections for you and your herd. Looking forward, we hope many of you are planning to attend the national convention that will be held in June 2019 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Hello from Northern Illinois, Hope everyone is surviving this crazy winter. Northwest juniors have been getting ready and are excited for this year’s Spring Thing. We started practices on January 13th and have had over 30 kids at each practice. We have a total of 29 kids representing Northwest at Spring Thing in dairy bowl, jeopardy, craft, folding display, photo, and speech contests. At one of our practices, we selected officers for the upcoming year. They are President - Nathan Erbsen, Vice President - Payton Erbsen, Secretary - Delana Erbsen, Treasurer - Ben Bremmer, Reporter- Magen Busker. BOARD MEETINGS January 4, 2019 · Bloomington, IL The January 4, 2019 Board of Director’s meeting of the Illinois Holstein Association was called to order at 3:10pm at the Radisson in Bloomington by President Ed Smith. Secretary Sarah Lenkaitis took roll call with 15 board members, 3 staff, 5 committee chairs and 5 guests present. Printed copies of the minutes from the September board meeting were distributed. Kevin Wendling moved to accept the minutes of the meeting, Ray Hess seconded and the motion carried. Treasurer Carol Jones presented the Treasurer’s Report. Richard Meier made a motion and Sarah Butler seconded to approve the Treasurer’s Report. Motion carried. Upon further review, there was an error found in the summarized profit and loss by category. Recalculated numbers were presented. Boyd Schaufelberger moved to accept the amended Treasurer’s Report. Aaron Heinzmann seconded and the motion carried. Editor Stephanie Hammerly thanked the advertisers from the 2018 Illinois Holstein Herald. The winter issue should be in mailboxes now. The cover features the photo contest winner, Tracy Harms. The deadline for ad reservations and district news for the spring issue is February 10. It will be a Midwest Holsteins issue and a great place to advertise spring sale consignments. Also, Illinois Holstein of the Year nominations close January 10. Upon close, nominations will be posted on the Illinois Holstein Association Facebook page for voting, and the award will be given at the Senior Convention. On behalf of Dave Fisher, Ed Smith reminded the board of the upcoming IMPA Dairy Summit – Tuesday, February 5 in Centralia; Wednesday, February 6 in Bloomington and Thursday, February 7 in Freeport. Holstein USA Field Representative Tim Ewing and Holstein USA President Boyd Schaufelberger updated the board on Holstein USA programs and activities. Tim mentioned two new programs - Holstein Marketplace is a classified section on the Holstein USA website to connect Registered Holstein breeders looking to merchandise genetics and TriStar AMR is for herds collecting weight and component data via an automated milk system to aggregate the information to the Holstein Herdbook database. Boyd reported Basic ID hit a record in 2018. Registrations were slightly down in 2018 from the 27-year high reached in 2017. Boyd also mentioned a couple of ongoing projects at Holstein USA – they are in the middle of a four-year IT upgrade, and Holstein USA provided grants for research projects covering inbreeding and heat tolerance. The 2019 National Holstein Convention will be in Appleton, Wisconsin on June 23-27. Illinois will have four delegates. Boyd will be finishing his term as President of the Holstein USA Board of Directors. New this year, the National Genetics Conference will be a part of the convention. Also, to commemorate the 25th anniversary of YDLI, there will be a dairy leadership and advocacy program on June 27. It is open to alumni, friends and dairy industry leaders. Junior President Brock Irwin and Junior Advisor Wendy Erbsen provided the Junior Report. Spring Thing will be held February 23-24 in East Peoria. It is open to all dairy youth, not just Holstein. Capping off a successful show season, Wendy reported twelve juniors have animals that received an All-American nomination. OLD BUSINESS Sarah Butler thanked members that attended the 2018 picnic hosted by Bluff-Ridge. NEW BUSINESS On behalf of the Gateway Holstein Club, Ron Schaufelberger invited members to the Illinois Senior Holstein Convention on February 1-2. Registration forms were distributed and are due Sunday, January 20. This year, the convention will include a tour of The Milkhouse, owned by Michael and Connie Turley. It opened this fall and bottles milk, heavy cream and other dairy products twice a week. The guest speaker at the banquet will be John Meyer, CEO of Holstein USA. Herb Schmiedeskamp reported the Futures Sale will be held at the convention on February 2. He is still looking for a few more consignments. 2019 COMMITTEE REPORTS State Show Committee Report given by Steve Irwin on behalf of Joe Engel - The open show will be Friday, July 12 at the Interstate Center in Page 8
Bloomington – it is a week earlier this year. Chip Savage is tentatively scheduled to be the judge. Exhibitors will need to set-up their own gates. Again this year, the show will recognize and provide a small award for one CFP production winner for each class (Jr. 3 and older) and name an overall winner ahead of Grand Champion. On the show entry form, exhibitors will be reminded to bring production record verification. Also, Amy Raber is the new co-chair, focusing on sponsorships and awards. This is the final year on the current contract with the Interstate Center. The committee will be exploring two options – pursuing a new contract with the Interstate Center or moving the show back to the fairgrounds in Lincoln. Also, due to the declining number of entries at the majority of district shows, it was discussed if in the future the shows need to be consolidated into a Northern Illinois and Southern Illinois show. Budget: $1,000. Motion to approve the State Show Committee Report was made by Boyd Schaufelberger, seconded by Jason Oertel and the motion carried. Futurity Committee Report given by Darcy Steffes - The Illinois Futurity will be Friday, July 12. Entries can be submitted using the paper entry form. Once the entry deadline has passed, Darcy will input entries into an Excel spreadsheet and distribute to exhibitors. The number of entries for the 2020 show are about the same as previous years. Darcy will work with Stephanie to update the futurity rules and entries on the website. Budget: $0 Association funds. Motion to approve the Futurity Committee Report was made by Aaron Heinzmann, seconded by Boyd Schaufelberger and the motion carried. Public Relations Committee Report given by Stephanie Hammerly on behalf of Aaron Heinzmann - The committee is evaluating ways to increase value for breeder and commercial advertisers. Stephanie will be developing sponsorship packages beyond print advertisement in the Illinois Holstein Herald. She will also be looking into Junior sponsored advertisements. In 2019, there will be two Holstein Herald Magazines and two Holstein Herald Newsletters. Budget: -$5,000. Jason Oertel moved to accept the Public Relations Committee report, Kevin Wendling seconded and the motion carried. PDCA Calf Sale Committee Report given by Herb Schmiedeskamp - The 2019 PDCA Calf Sale will be held at the Champaign County Fairgrounds on April 13. There will be a showmanship clinic with Julie Hemp beginning at 11:00am. The sale will begin at 12:30pm. Consignment information is due February 1 (except for spring calves, which will be due on March 11), and they are looking for 30 Holstein calves. The Jersey Juniors will host a breakfast and lunch stand again. Juniors will also lead the animals and help pass slips. The committee discussed the value of Cowbuyer being available. Motion to approve the PDCA Calf Report was made by Ethan Heinzmann, seconded by Jeff Thorman and the motion carried. Junior Advisory Committee presented by Chairman Wendy Erbsen - As mentioned in the Junior Report, Spring Thing will be February 23-24 in East Peoria. New this year, there will a photography, craft and scrapbook page contest. Also, there will be a Dairy Youth Team Challenge where teams work together on three areas (feed identification, dairy judging and sire selection). Attendees will be going to a trampoline park on Saturday night. They are looking for volunteers to help with dairy bowl, dairy jeopardy and other activities and contests. Nominations for the Kyle Mitchell Award are due February 1. Applications for dairy bowl coaches are open. Responsibilities and details on how to apply can be found in the winter issue of the Illinois Holstein Herald. Application closes January 20, and coaches will be selected by February 1. Coaches will be selected by a committee including the three Junior Advisors, up to three coaches will be selected (and each will begin a three year rotating position – same as the Junior Advisors), coaches will have a yearly evaluation completed in July and filed with the Illinois Holstein Secretary and a point person between the coaches and Junior Advisor/Executive Committee member will be appointed. The junior show at the Illinois Championship Show will be July 11. They are working to finalize a judge. The juniors will be conducting a silent and live auction at the Illinois Senior Holstein Convention to help fundraise for National Holstein Spring 2019
Convention. Wendy reported she currently has two YDJM and one DJM candidate. Budget requested: $3,000. Motion to approve the Junior Advisory Report was made by Dave Shanks, seconded by Ethan Heinzmann. Ahead of the vote, the board discussed with the Junior Advisory Committee the need for $3,000 given their current account balance and planned fundraisers. Boyd Schaufelberger made an amendment to the motion to remove the $3,000 requested with the acknowledgement that the senior association will consider needs as appropriate next year. Kevin Wendling seconded. The motion carried with a 10-5 vote. State Sale Committee Report given by Chairman Brian Olbrich - The committee discussed the value of having a sale in a challenging market. The committee agreed to forgo having a 2019 sale and asked President Ed Smith to appoint a group of three to four people to explore the sale format and future of the sale. Budget: $0. Jason Oertel made a motion to approve the State Sale Committee report. Kevin Wendling seconded and the motion carried. Membership Committee Report given by Chairman Steve Irwin - A 2019 membership form was included inside the winter issue of the Illinois Holstein Herald. New rates for 2019 are: senior membership $40 per member (club rebate 10% each) and junior membership $15 per member (club rebate $0.50 each). Unpaid members will receive a post card on March 1 with their membership information and dues owed. A $5 late fee per membership will still be enforced beginning April 1. Unpaid members will be dropped from the mailing list for the summer issue of the Illinois Holstein Herald. In December 2019, we will look to send out the 2020 membership forms as a pre-populated postcard to help make it easier for members to return. Budget: $19,000. Carol Jones made a motion to approve the Membership Committee report, Ray Hess seconded and the motion carried. Dutchess/Little Miss Holstein Committee Report given by Wendy Erbsen on behalf of Lori Lyons - The 2019 competition will be held July 11 in the show ring. Dutchess contests must be 15-21 years old and Little Miss contestants 6-10 years old as of January 1. While contestants must be a member of the Illinois Junior Holstein Association, they are not required to own a registered Holstein. Budget: - $1,500. Boyd Schaufelberger made a motion to approve the Dutchess/Little Miss Holstein Committee report. Jason Oertel seconded and the motion carried. 2019 STATE BUDGET

Secretary Sarah Lenkaitis took the roll and handed out copies of the minutes of the January 2019 Board of Directors meeting. Jerry Smith moved to approve the minutes, Dale Drendel seconded, and the motion carried. Treasurer Carol Jones handed out copies of the 2018 Financial Report. Kevin Wendling moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Jason Oertel Illinois Holstein Herald
seconded, and the motion carried. Dale Drendel gave the Holstein USA report. He invited everyone to visit Holstein Marketplace Sires on the Holstein USA website. There are four sires available for purchase, including one from Golden Oaks. Hawkeye houses and collects the bulls. The third episode of Holstein America will air on RFD-TV on February 7. The comment period for the Dairy Pride Act closed on January 28, and the initial reviews show strong support for protecting the integrity of dairy products by enforcing existing labeling requirements. Editor Stephanie Hammerly reminded the group that the Spring Herald deadline is February 10. It is a Midwest Holsteins issue. Junior President, Brock Irwin gave the Junior Report. Spring Thing will be held February 23-24 in East Peoria. Juniors interested in running for an office will need to complete a short application – it will be posted on the Illinois Junior Holstein Association Facebook page and be available at Spring Thing. The Juniors are holding a silent auction in conjunction with the State Convention. Items will be at The Milkhouse tomorrow and moved to the banquet tomorrow evening. Bidding will close at the conclusion of the banquet. OLD BUSINESS On behalf of Gene McCoy, Herb Schmiedskamp provided a report on the PDCA Calf Sale. Currently, there are 30 Holstein consignments, and the committee is seeking input on if all consignments or just several featured consignments should be included in the Illinois Holstein Herald advertisement. Following discussion with board members and consigners, Jerry Smith made a motion for a full-page ad to be placed in the Illinois Holstein Herald. Jason Oertel seconded, and the motion carried. Steve Irwin reported on State Show. Steve, along with Amy Raber, met with staff at the Interstate Center in Bloomington. They were able to obtain a contract extension from the Interstate Center for 2020 and 2021. The rate for the facility will increase a standard 1.5% each year. The Interstate Center emphasized the importance of the Illinois Holstein Association providing approximately six people to set-up gates, bleachers and the showring. Clean-up will also need to take place Friday after the show. Lucas Clanton made a motion to sign a contact with the Interstate Center for 2020 and 2021. Sarah Butler seconded, and the motion carried. Ed Smith reported he has received several applications for the Junior Contest Co-Coach Positions. Three will be selected by Spring Thing. NEW BUSINESS Kevin Wendling reminded board members that the membership will vote on the proposed amendments to bylaws at the annual meeting. On behalf of the Mississippi Valley Club, Herb Schmiedskamp announced the 2020 State Convention would be held in Quincy. Ed Smith read a letter from World Dairy Expo asking the Illinois Holstein Association to sponsor the Winter Heifer Class for $75.00. Dale Drendel made a motion to sponsor the class award. John Erbsen seconded, and the motion carried. The Illinois Holstein Association participates in the Spring and Fall Midwest Holstein issues. However, there was discussion amongst the board to participate in the Summer Issue instead of the Fall this year to coincide with the 2019 National Holstein Convention being hosted in Wisconsin. Jason Oertel made a motion to participate in the Spring and Summer instead of Spring and Fall Midwest Holsteins issues. Jeff Thorman seconded, and the motion carried. Southern Club board member, Norbert Hasheider announced their club is considering disbanding as they have a limited number of members. Current members would be able to choose which club they will move to – most would likely join Clinton. Ed Smith reminded the group that new board members, along with those beginning their second term, will be seated at tomorrow’s annual meeting. ANNUAL MEETING February 2, 2019 · Greenville, IL The 2018 Fiscal Year Annual Meeting of the Illinois Holstein Association was held February 2, 2019 in Greenville, Illinois. The meeting was called to order by President Ed Smith at 9:22am. There were 130 members and guests present. Secretary Sarah Lenkaitis handed out copies of the minutes of the February 2018 Annual Meeting. Boyd Schaufelberger made a motion to accept the minutes as printed. His motion was seconded by Jason Oertel, and the motion carried. Treasurer Carol Jones handed out copies of the financial summary from Fiscal Year 2018. Dale Drendel moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Kevin Wendling seconded, and the motion carried. Stephanie Hammerly gave the Editor’s Report. She thanked 2018 advertisers and contributors to the Illinois Holstein Herald. The deadline for the spring issue is February 10 – it is a Midwest Holsteins issue. The Holstein USA report was given by Boyd Schaufelberger. He thanked Turley’s for hosting today’s meeting and mentioned their family has been members of the Holstein Association for 101 years! Boyd also introduced banquet guest speaker, Holstein Association USA CEO, John Meyer. Despite operating in a tough economy, Boyd reported Holstein Association set a record for total identifications – estimating the association works with approximately 20 percent of the Holstein population. In 2018, basic identification outnumbered registrations. Also, in 2018, Holstein Association, along with Merck Animal Health, introduced Holstein American on RFD-TV. The third episode will air Thursday, February 7. All episodes are also posted on YouTube. The 2019 National Holstein Convention will be held in Appleton, WI June 24-27 and include a Genetics Conference as a part of convention. The National Winter Update Meeting in California will be recorded and available on the Holstein Association website. The show committee will be meeting in a couple of weeks and recommend to World Dairy Expo the addition of the Summer Junior 2-year-old class. Last year, Holstein Association worked Dairy Pride Act. This year, the association will be looking at school milk and animal exports to reduce the replacement inventory. The Illinois Extension Report was given by Dave Fischer. He reminded attendees the Illinois Dairy Summit is Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday next week. Dave also gave a recap on the 4-H Dairy Judging, 4-H Dairy Bowl and Superior Dairy Producer competitions. Illinois will be hosting the Midwest Dairy Challenge later this month. There is an opening for a Dairy Outreach Specialist. The Illinois Junior Member Report was given by Brock Irwin. The 2019 Spring Thing will be held February 23-24 in East Peoria. Brock reminded attendees of the silent auction set-up in the back of the meeting room. OLD BUSINESS Membership: For the 2018, the Association included 379 Senior members and 187 Junior members. A 2019 membership form was included inside the winter issue of the Illinois Holstein Herald. New rates for 2019 are: senior membership $40 per member (club rebate 10% each) and junior membership $15 per member (club rebate $0.50 each). PDCA: The 2018 PDCA Calf Sale was held on April 7, 2018 at the Champaign County Fairgrounds. The overall sale average was $1,376.12 with Holsteins averaging $1,747.00. The 2019 PDCA Calf Sale will be held at the Champaign County Fairgrounds on April 13. There will be a showmanship clinic with Julie Hemp beginning at 11:00am. The sale will begin at 12:30pm. State Show: The 2018 State Show was held on July 20 and 21, 2017 at the Interstate Center in Bloomington, IL. There were a total of 145 shown in the Open Show and 81 shown in the Junior Show. The 2019 State Show will be July 10-12 at the Interstate Center in Bloomington. Futurity: The 2018 Futurity was held on July 20 with nine 2-year-olds and two 5-year-olds exhibited. The Illinois Futurity will be Friday, July 12. Dutchess/Little Miss: The 2018 Dutchess is Ellie Lenkaitis and Little Miss Holstein is Noelle Clementz. The 2019 competition will be held July 11 in the show ring. Dutchess contests must be 15-21 years old and Little Miss contestants 6-10 years old as of January 1. State Sales: The Illinois Golden Opportunity Sale was held April 21 in Belvidere. It averaged $1,933. No State Sale will be held in 2019. A small committee has been appointed to explore the sale format and future of the sale. Page 10
Public Relations: In 2018, there were two Holstein Herald Magazines and two Holstein Herald Newsletters. There were also website updates and social media events promoting association activities, a Herald cover contest and an IL Cow of the Year contest. In 2019, there will be two Holstein Herald Magazines and two Holstein Herald Newsletters. The committee is evaluating ways to increase value for breeder and commercial advertisers including developing sponsorship packages beyond print advertisement in the Illinois Holstein Herald. Steve Irwin moved to approve the committee reports as printed. Aaron Heinzmann seconded, and the motion carried. NEW BUSINESS Kevin Wendling reviewed the proposed amendments to the Illinois Holstein Association Bylaws as printed in the Winter Issue of the Illinois Holstein Herald. Jason Oertel made a motion to amend Article III, Section 7 to strike “of at least 10” members. The amended article would read “A local Holstein club shall continue to be a recognized club so long as it has an annual paid up adult membership into the Association, and that the membership organize and carry out the recommended yearly program.” Boyd Schaufelberger seconded the amendment to Article III, Section 7 and the motion carried. The membership then voted on approving the bylaws as amended, and the motion carried. Resolutions by Dick Muller, Steve Irwin and Jeff Thorman: • Be it resolved to approve the acts and deeds of the officers and Board of Directors for the past year. • Be it resolved to thank Dale Drendel and Boyd Schaufelberger for serving on the Board of Holstein USA and representing the members of Illinois Holstein Association and other Holstein members throughout the U.S. • Be it resolved to thank Ellie Lenkaitis for her service as 2018-19 Illinois Holstein Dutchess and Noelle Clementz for her service as 2018-19 Little Miss Holstein. • Be it resolved to thank all officers, employees and state committee chairmen and sitting directors for their efforts and accomplishments this past year. • Be it resolved to thank all sponsors and donors for State and District Holstein functions. • Be it resolved to thank the coaches and advisors for the Illinois Junior Holstein Association, University of Illinois and Cooperative Extension Service for their effort, influence and accomplishments in supporting the youth of the Illinois Holstein Association, as well as those who financially support the Illinois Junior Holstein Association fundraising activities. • Be it resolved to thank Bluff-Ridge Holsteins – the Butler Family of Arrowsmith, Illinois, for hosting the 2018 State Picnic. • Be it resolved to congratulate the Junior & Senior Dairy Bowl teams as well as Jeopardy, Speech Contest, Poster and Scrapbook contestants, as well as DJM finalists for representing Illinois at the National Convention. Dave Fischer made a motion to approve the resolutions. It was seconded by Dave Shanks, and the motion carried. Nominations for new directors from clubs with directors whose terms are expiring: Lucas Clanton and Leon Dorsey will begin their first terms for Gateway, Herb Schmiedskamp will begin his first term for Mississippi Valley, John Erbsen and Jerry Smith will begin their second terms for Northwest, Ray Hess will begin his second term for Tri-County and Aaron Mitchell will begin his second term for Boone-Winnebago. Kevin Wendling moved to seat the Directors and Ron Schaufelberger seconded. The motion carried. Jason Oertel nominated John Erbsen, Jerry Smith, Kevin Wendling and Herb Schmiedskamp for the Executive Committee. Mike Hutjens moved to cast a unanimous ballot, Joann Hartman seconded and the motion carried. 2020 State Convention will be hosted by the Mississippi Valley Club in Quincy. A motion to adjourn was made by Joann Hartman, seconded by Herb Schmiedskamp and the motion carried. The meeting adjourned at 10:15am.
