CONVENTION HIGHLIGHTS With a shared passion for Registered Holsteins, Illinois Holstein members from across the state gathered in Quincy February 7th and 8th to attend the 2020 Illinois Senior Holstein Convention. This year’s convention was hosted by the Mississippi-Valley Holstein Club. Thank you for hosting! Friday afternoon, executive and board meetings were held with evening hospitality later on. Saturday morning began with the annual meeting of the Illinois Holstein Association, followed by a tour of Quincy Farm Products. Lunch was held at the Quincy Mall Community Room and later that afternoon, the Association hosted the 2020 Illini Futures Sale. More details on the sale on page 11. The convention concluded with an evening banquet and hospitality. Congratulations to the Illinois Holstein breeders that were recognized with the Distinguished Service, Senior Breeder, Junior Breeder and Illinois Holstein of the Year awards! Boyd Schaufelberger was recognized with the 2019 Distinguished Service Award, Don and Larry Gueldener were awarded the 2019 Illinois Holstein Senior Breeder Award, Jim Schluter received the 2019 Illinois Holstein Junior Breeder Award and Schluter Unstp Aspen-Red-ET, bred and owned by Olivia Schluter, was voted 2019 Illinois Holstein of the Year. They are featured on pages 26 and 27 of the Midwest Holsteins section of this issue.

NATIONAL UPDATES
Well, Stephanie told me that I had to write the President’s column, so I guess my election wasn’t just a dream (nightmare??). As nominating committee chairman Jerry Smith so eloquently stated right before the vote: “We’re going down a slippery slope here, folks.” But yet, here I am. As I was sitting in the hospitality room at the State Convention in Quincy, I couldn’t help but notice that I was surrounded by seven former Illinois Holstein Association Presidents. I said to myself, “Self, how many state presidents have you personally known?” If you figure a two-year term (Kevin Wendling had soooo much fun that he asked to serve 3), I think it is safe to say that I have known at least 20 of them. And what a fine group they are!! Dedicated, passionate and committed – all willing to go the extra mile for the Association, and none of them ever collected a dime in compensation. As I thought about these gentlemen, many, many memories came flooding back. Bob Butler’s fiscal responsibility is mentioned at every budget meeting TO THIS DAY!! Bob Miller’s storytelling is LEGENDARY. And have there ever been any nicer fellas than Allen Tucker, Kenny Erbsen or Kevin Lyons?? I recall like it was yesterday, at a State Convention more than 25 years ago, witnessing president Bill Olbrich walk in during breakfast and sit next to a 20-something shy, impressionable young man who was sitting all alone, and engaging him in conversation. Bill then picked up the young man’s tab. Could you imagine how that simple gesture made that young man feel? I certainly can – because that young, shy fella was yours truly. Thanks Bill!! I have never forgotten, and I fully intend to pay it forward!! So, it is apparent to me that I have big shoes to fill. I will give it my best shot. Hopefully I can take a few things that I have learned from those that have preceded me (I am already working on copying Ron Schaufelberger’s hairstyle!!). I would be remiss if I didn’t thank the Mississippi Valley Holstein club for hosting an outstanding Convention on February 7th and 8th. Great location, great tour, great food (ask Ed Smith about the free chocolate candy), and most importantly, great fellowship! If you haven’t attended a State Convention in awhile, make it a priority next year. I promise that you won’t regret it! I’ll leave you with this: I live my life with no regrets. It’s one of the benefits of not being able to remember things.

DUTCHESS DOMAIN Hello Illinois Holstein Association! I hope you all have had a good winter with healthy animals and families! I would like to thank all those who attended the 2020 Illinois Holstein Senior Convention in Quincy, IL, and benefitted IJHA with the silent and live auctions. Those two auctions are our main fundraisers to send the Juniors to the 2020 National Holstein Convention in Lancaster, Pennsylvania this year. With your help, we were able to raise just under $2,000 with the silent and live auctions. We had 38 silent auction items, and 3 live auction items. Thank you again to all those who helped benefit us! We greatly appreciate all of your help, and look forward to the coming years. Spring Thing is coming up February 28 through March 1st, and I know all the Juniors are looking forward to seeing all of their friends from around the state and competing for the spots for jeopardy, dairy bowl, speech, and poster boards. This weekend of competition is something I definitely look forward to because I love doing dairy bowl and jeopardy. Competing in these contests allows us Juniors to learn all about the dairy industry, and helps us become productive members of our industry with the gained knowledge. Good luck to all Juniors!! Finally, I would like to congratulate all the Junior and Open All American Nominees and Winners, and the with this year’s All American Contest. All of the animals who got recognized this year greatly deserved the awards, and should have a great show season ahead of them. Good luck to all of you this spring, and let’s hope we don’t have a spring like last year.

2020 Holstein Association USA Judges Conference to be held in California Registration is now open for the Holstein Association USA 2020 Judges Conference, to be held at Maddox Dairy on Friday, March 13 in Riverdale, California. The one-day conference will run from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Interested participants can register for the conference on the Holstein Association USA website with a credit card. The pre-registration fee is $50, which closes two weeks before the conference, on February 28. Late registrants and walk-ins will pay a $100 fee. To attend the conference, you must be 22 years old by the day of the conference. Individuals on the Holstein Association USA Judges List must have attended and received a satisfactory rating at a Holstein Association USA Judges Conference within a five-year period. Those planning to apply for the list in the future must first attend and receive a satisfactory rating at a Holstein Association USA Judges Conference before submitting an application. Holstein Association USA Updates Junior Transfer Deadline Starting with the 2020 show season, Holstein Association USA has changed the Junior transfer “received by” deadline to July 15 for both heifers and cows. In order to be eligible to participate in Junior Holstein Shows, the animal must be registered in a youth’s name by July 15. Changing the transfer deadline to July 15 puts the date more in line with all of the other dairy breed associations. Allowing Juniors an extra month and a half to purchase their show calves provides additional marketing opportunities. “We are excited with the Junior transfer date change which allows youth more opportunities to purchase show animals later in the summer,” states Kelli Dunklee, youth programs specialist. “It is important to remember that this change only impacts Junior Holstein Shows — 4-H and other youth shows may have different deadlines.” This is a “received by” deadline — any ownership transfer not received by the Holstein Association USA office on or before July 15 will not be eligible for Junior Holstein Shows. Adding or dropping any owner after the deadline will disqualify an animal for Junior recognition. If there is a question as to whether a Junior ownership transfer has been completed, be sure to contact the Holstein Association USA customer service or visit www. holsteinusa.com to check the ownership status and ensure the transfer was received before the deadline. NEWS U of I Welcomes New Dairy Judging Coach The Department of Animal Sciences at the University of Illinois welcomes Derek Nolan as their newest faculty member. Coming from the University of Kentucky, Derek will be teaching, working on outreach programs, and coaching their dairy judging team. “I am very excited to have the opportunity to work with and for the dairy farmers in the state of Illinois,” Nolan says. “The U of I has a storied dairy program and I am honored that I will now be a part of it.” Follow the department on Facebook (@UIUCAnimalSciences) and check out their website for more information (ansc.illinois.edu). BOARD MEETINGS January 3, 2020 · Normal, IL The January 3, 2020 meeting of the Illinois Holstein Association Board of Directors was called to order at 2:25pm by President Ed Smith with 15 board members and 6 guests present. Secretary Sarah Lenkaitis took the roll and handed out copies of the minutes from the September 2019 Board of Directors meeting. Aaron Heinzmann moved to approve the minutes, Steve Irwin seconded, and the motion carried. Treasurer Carol Jones handed out copies of the Financial Report. Following review and discussion, Jerry Smith moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Herb Schmiedeskamp seconded, and the motion carried. On behalf of Editor Stephanie Hammerly, Aaron Heinzmann reported the 2019 Illinois Holstein Herald was apart of Midwest Holsteins for the Spring and Summer issues, and in the new newsletter format for the Fall and Winter issues. The Winter issue features the photo contest winner – Bluff-Ridge Holsteins. Nominations for Illinois Holstein Cow of the Year submissions are due January 10. On behalf of Gene McCoy, brochures for the upcoming Illinois Dairy Summit were distributed. Dale Drendel gave the Holstein USA report. Members can contact their local field representative to purchase Holstein Marketplace sires. The line-up includes one bull from Golden Oaks. Holstein USA also launched HolSim – which provides a list of SimAngus bulls with specific production attributes as mating solutions for dairy producers who breed some of their herd to beef. The latest episode of Holstein America on RFD-TV aired September 26, and all episodes can be viewed online. Boyd Schaufelberger recently finished his term as National Holstein President. Participation in youth programs at National Holstein Convention remained strong this year with 22 teams in competing in dairy bowl. The inaugural Genetics Conference brought more people to National Holstein Convention. Holstein USA is looking at including an abbreviated form in future years. Beginning in 2024, Holstein USA will take the organizational lead on National Holstein Convention. Staff from the Brattleboro office will work closely with the host state, and National Holstein will be responsible for fundraising and determining activity locations. Dale also reported while registrations and transfers are struggling, basic ID continues to be strong. There are 1,473 herds enrolled in the Holstein Complete packaging program. It saves 24% compared to purchasing services à la cart. Holstein USA launched RedBook Plus Online in August. Holstein USA approved a grant program for the University of Wisconsin-Madison to research twinning. As of now, USDA has withdrawn the RFID official identification requirement originally slated to take effect in 2023. This year’s Judge’s Conference will be held March 13 in California. The certified National Show judge list is available on the Holstein USA website. There will be eleven National Holstein Shows in 2020 as the Western National Show has been dropped. The transfer date for junior owned animals has been moved to July 15 for national shows. Lucas Clanton inquired about All-Americans not being listed on Holstein Association pedigrees. Following discussion, the board decided a resolution would be drafted and put before the membership at the annual meeting in February. Junior Advisor, Amy Raber gave the Junior Report. Kyle Mitchell award nominations are due to John Mitchell by February 1. Five juniors intend to complete YDJM applications. They are due January 19 to the advisory committee, and two will be selected to compete at the national level. Spring Thing will be February 28 and March 1 at the Embassy Suites in Peoria. Registration is due February 17. They are looking for volunteers to help with dairy bowl, dairy jeopardy and other activities and contests. The juniors are working on several fundraisers including selling Illinois Junior Holstein Association shirts/sweatshirts and holding a silent and live auction at the State Convention. OLD BUSINESS Sarah Lenkaitis thanked members that attended the 2019 picnic hosted by Lenkaitis Holsteins. NEW BUSINESS On behalf of the Mississippi Valley Club, Herb Schmiedskamp invited members to the Illinois Senior Holstein Convention on February 7-8. Page 8
Registration forms were distributed and are due January 17. This year, the convention will include a tour of Quincy Farm Products. Herb Schmiedeskamp reported the Futures Sale will be held at the convention on February 8. He is working on finalizing consignments. COMMITTEE REPORTS State Show Committee Report given by Amy Raber - The open show will be Friday, July 10 at the Interstate Center in Bloomington. Amy will be extending an invitation to the proposed judge. On the show entry form, a space for judge nominations will be added, and the complied list will be presented at the exhibitor’s meeting. Amy will work with Stephanie to determine opportunities to reduce the cost of the show catalog. Also, Todd Irwin is the new co-chair. Budget: -$1,000. Motion to approve the State Show Committee Report was made by Aaron Heinzmann, seconded by Kevin Wendling and the motion carried. Futurity Committee Report given by Ed Smith on behalf of Darcy Steffes - The Illinois Futurity will be Friday, July 10. Committee members agreed they would like to return to receiving paper entry forms in the mail as the Google form can be difficult to navigate. $0 (No association funds required.) Motion to approve the Futurity Committee Report was made by Dale Drendel, seconded by Lucas Clanton and the motion carried. Public Relations Committee Report given by Aaron Heinzmann - In 2019, there were two Holstein Herald Magazines and two Holstein Herald Newsletters. The committee recommending keeping this format for 2020. Also, the committee discussed participating in the Spring Midwest Holsteins issue, but reevaluating if the state should continue to participate in the Fall based upon advertising commitments and sales. PDCA Calf Sale Committee Report given by Herb Schmiedeskamp - The 2020 PDCA Calf Sale will be held at the Champaign County Fairgrounds on April 4. There will be a judging clinic beginning at 11:00am. The sale will begin at 12:30pm, and Cowbuyer will be there. Consignment information is due February 1 (except for spring calves, due March 16), and the selection committee is seeking 35 Holstein calves. Consigners are encouraged to have animals clipped. The committee is looking for Holstein Juniors to volunteer to help lead the animals. The committee is asking the association for $225 – the value of the half-page ad placed in the Illinois Holstein Herald. Budget: -$225. Motion to approve the PDCA Calf Report was made by Jerry Smith, seconded by Kevin Wendling and the motion carried. Junior Advisory Committee presented by Amy Raber on behalf of Al Lenkaitis, Jr. - As mentioned in the Junior Report, Spring Thing will be February 29 – March 1 in Peoria. There will a photography, craft and scrapbook page contest. There will also be Dairy Quiz Bowl, Dairy Jeopardy, Speech and Dairy Youth Team Challenge contests. Attendees will be going to a trampoline park on Saturday night. The junior show at the Illinois Championship Show will be July 9. Jim Meyer will be the judge. They are looking for an associate judge. As mentioned in the Junior Report, there are several fundraisers happening in conjunction with the Illinois Senior Holstein Convention. The juniors will be conducting a silent and live auction and are taking orders for Illinois Junior Holstein Association shirts and sweatshirts. The board offered other suggestions for future fundraisers including an embryo shuffle or senior showmanship contest in conjunction with State Show. At the Junior Association meeting, the membership will vote on increasing the cost for National Holstein Convention from $300 to $350 per person. The juniors are also contacting surrounding states about opportunities to share a bus to this year’s convention in Pennsylvania. Amy reported Illinois can submit two YDJM applications to the national level. Because the advisors anticipate having more than two applications this year and in future years, the committee discussed and established a process for selecting which individuals will move onto nationals. Illinois Juniors are asked to declare their intent to complete a YDJM December 1, the completed application is due January 1. Three reviewers will evaluate the applications (using the national rubric) and select two individuals by February 1. The two individuals selected will Spring 2020
have until March 1 to submit their application to National Holstein. Budget requested -$3,000. Motion to approve the Junior Advisory Report was made by Kevin Wendling. Dave Shanks seconded the motion. Ahead of the vote, the board discussed with the Junior Advisory Committee the potential income from fundraisers and the costs associated with National Holstein Convention. Jerry Smith moved to amend the motion to -$1,500 and noted the board would re-evaluate at the June meeting when more detail on fundraiser performance and National Holstein Convention cost would be available. Lucas Clanton seconded. The motion to amend passed 14-1. The amended Junior Advisory Report was approved with a 15-0 vote. State Sale Committee Report given by Chairman Brian Olbrich The committee discussed the value of having a sale in a challenging market. The committee agreed schedule a sale for Fall 2020 in Southern Illinois. It could be held in conjunction with the State Picnic. The Illinois Holstein Association would receive 3% commission for clerking the sale. Consigners would pay a maximum of 20% commission. The committee indicated a sale chairman needed to be appointed. Beginning in 2021, the committee discussed the possibility of holding the sale in conjunction with State Show to align with the new transfer deadline for junior ownership for National Holstein Shows. Budget: $0. Lucas Clanton made a motion to approve the State Sale Committee report. Carol Jones seconded and the motion carried. Membership Committee Report given by Chairman Steve Irwin Membership rates will remain the same for 2020. Membership renewal forms will be in mailboxes in the next couple of weeks, and a blank membership form is posted on the website. An email reminder will be sent out March 1 to remind unpaid members of the April 1 deadline. Budget: $21,000. Dutchess/Little Miss Holstein Committee Report given by Addison Raber on behalf of Lori Lyons - The 2020 competition will be held July 8. The committee discussed changing the application and interview process. The committee would like to revise the application or ask for each candidate to submit a professional resume. Instead of the show ring, they would like to choose a new location for better quality interaction with the three judges. One idea presented was to visit a local bowling alley as a social activity, and then conduct a one-on-one interview in the fairgrounds office. The committee also discussed the age gap between Dutchess and Little Miss contestants and noted this may need to be adjusted to encourage participation. Budget: - $1,500. Ethan Henizmann made a motion to approve the Dutchess/Little Miss Holstein Committee report. board members and 2 guests present. Secretary Sarah Lenkaitis took the roll and handed out copies of the minutes from the January 2020 Board of Directors meeting. Jerry Smith moved to approve the minutes, Dale Drendel seconded, and the motion carried. Treasurer Carol Jones provided updates on the association’s accounts. There are four clubs that haven’t cashed their club rebate checks including Boone-Winnebago, Gateway, McHenry-Lake and Tri-County. Herb Schmiedeskamp moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Jim Schluter seconded, and the motion carried. On behalf of Editor Stephanie Hammerly, Sarah Lenkaitis reported the 2019 Illinois Holstein of the Year will be awarded at tomorrow’s banquet to Schluter Unstp Aspen-Red-ET. The contest had seven entries which were posted on the Illinois Holstein Facebook page. The contest reached more than 23,000 and received over 2,000 likes. Also, the deadline for the Spring issue of the Illinois Holstein Herald is February 10. This is a Midwest Holsteins issue and is a great opportunity to promote spring sale consignments or All-American results. Dale Drendel gave the Holstein USA report. The latest episode of Holstein America on RFD-TV aired Thursday, February 6, and all episodes can be viewed online. Dale will be finishing his term as Director-At-Large in June. He made a motion for the Illinois Holstein Association to support Jerry Smith in his bid for Holstein USA Director-At-Large. Richard Meier seconded, and the motion carried. No Junior report was given. OLD BUSINESS There was no Old Business. NEW BUSINESS The current Board of Directors list was provided on the agenda. At tomorrow’s annual meeting, Carol Jones and Richard Meier will be seated for their second term. Toby Probst will be the new director for Effingham. Dale Drendel informed the board Ray Hess has entered a nursing home in Dekalb County. A card for Ray is being distributed at the convention for members to sign, and Dale will deliver to Ray. The Tri-County Holstein Club will look to appoint a new director for their club. Holstein USA Field Representative, Tim Ewing was recently admitted to the Cox Medical Center in Springfield. On behalf of the membership, a card will be sent to Tim. The board reviewed the drafted resolution regarding All-American results not being printed on Holstein USA pedigrees. The resolution will be presented to the membership at tomorrow’s annual meeting. Whereas exhibitors from all over the country, the grassroots of Holstein USA, parade their finest cattle in the show ring February through November, and; Whereas the All-American contest has recognized and celebrated U.S. Registered Holstein animals and their owners for exceptional performance at National Holstein Shows for 97 years, and; Whereas the All-American contest received its highest number of entries in 2019, solidifying its value, Be it resolved, that the Illinois Holstein Association recommends Holstein Association USA returns to and retroactively prints All-American results on pedigrees. Kevin Wendling will ask the Effingham club to host the 2021 State Holstein Convention. The Prairie Central FFA sent a letter requesting support for their upcoming trip to Scotland. All four judging team members are active in the Illinois Holstein Association. Jerry Smith made a motion to for a $1,000 donation from the association’s Enhancement Fund. Kevin Wendling seconded, and the motion carried. Ed Smith reported futurity entries for 2022 were significantly down from previous years. He has recommended paper entry forms be sent out in the future to hopefully get more entries. Motion to adjourn the meeting was made by Jerry Smith, seconded by Jim Schluter and the motion carried. ANNUAL MEETING February 8, 2020 · Quincy, IL The 2019 Fiscal Year Annual Meeting of the Illinois Holstein Association was held February 8, 2020 in Quincy, Illinois. The meeting was called to order by President Ed Smith at 9:05am. There were 40 members and guests present. Secretary Sarah Lenkaitis handed out copies of the minutes of the February 2019 Annual Meeting. Jerry Smith made a motion to accept the minutes as printed. His motion was seconded by Dave Fischer, and the motion carried. Treasurer Carol Jones handed out copies of the financial summary from Fiscal Year 2019. Herb Schmeideskamp moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Dale Drendel seconded, and the motion carried. On behalf of Stephanie Hammerly, Sarah Lenkaitis gave the Editor’s Report. Stephanie extended a thank you to 2019 advertisers and contributors to the Illinois Holstein Herald. The deadline for the spring issue is February 10 – it is a Midwest Holsteins issue. The Holstein USA report was given by Dale Drendel. He encouraged everyone to look at the winter issue of the Holstein Pulse. It includes editorial from President Corey Geiger, highlights the programs Holstein USA launched in 2019 and lists top BAA herds. Also, a new episode of Holstein American aired on RFD-TV on Thursday, February 6. All episodes are also posted on YouTube. Beginning in 2024, the National Holstein Association will take the lead organizing the National Holstein Convention. Future convention hosts include 2020 Pennsylvania, 2021 Ohio, 2022 South Dakota and Minnesota and 2023 Kentucky. The Holstein Association also continues make progress with the Dairy Pride Act. Dale reminded members he will be finishing his term as Director-AtLarge in June. The Board of Directors is supporting Jerry Smith in his bid for Holstein USA Director-At-Large. The Illinois Extension Report was given by Dave Fischer. He provided a recap on the 4-H Dairy Judging, 4-H Dairy Bowl and Superior Dairy Producer competitions. He thanked the sponsors and farms that have helped with dairy judging exercises. Dave also provided a University of Illinois update. They are currently building a state-of-the-art feed mill. The dairy farm is milking 80 cows, and there are ongoing conversations regarding updating the facility. Dr. Derek Nolan, who will be working in outreach and teaching, will begin at the University of Illinois in two weeks. He will also be the dairy judging team coach and work with the dairy challenge team. No youth report was given. OLD BUSINESS Membership: For the 2019, the Association included 376 Senior members and 183 Junior members. Membership rates will remain the same for 2020. Membership renewal forms have been sent out. A blank membership form is posted on the website, and an email reminder will be sent out March 1 to remind unpaid members of the April 1 deadline. PDCA: The 71st PDCA Calf Sale was held April 13, 2019 at the Champaign County Fairgrounds. The sale averaged $1,075 for all breeds. The sale included 30 Holstein calves that averaged $1,175. The 2020 PDCA Calf Sale will be held at the Champaign County Fairgrounds on April 4. There will be a judging clinic beginning at 11:00am. The sale will begin at 12:30pm. Cowbuyer will be there. State Show: The 2019 State Show was held on July 10-12 at the Interstate Center in Bloomington, IL. There were 116 entries in the open show and 71 entries in the junior show. The fairgrounds appreciated exhibitors following the rules from the Interstate Center regarding setup, take down and handling manure and trash. In 2020, the junior show will be Thursday, July 9 and the open show will be Friday, July 10 at the Interstate Center. Futurity: The 2019 Futurity was held on July 12 with eleven 2-year-olds and three 5-year-olds exhibited. The Illinois Futurity will be Friday, July 10. Dutchess/Little Miss: The 2019 Dutchess is Addison Raber and Little Miss Holstein is Kelly O’Connor. The 2020 competition will be held July 8 in conjunction with State Show. Dutchess contests must be 15-21 years old and Little Miss contestants 6-10 years old as of January 1. The committee is looking at opportunities to update the application and interview process in the future. State Sales: No State Sale was held in 2019. A small committee has been appointed to organize a sale for Fall 2020. Public Relations: In 2019, there were two Holstein Herald Magazines and two Holstein Herald Newsletters. There were also website updates Page 10
and social media events promoting association activities, a Herald cover contest and an IL Cow of the Year contest. In 2020, we will continue with two Holstein Herald Magazines and two Holstein Herald Newsletters. The committee is evaluating the value in participating in one versus two issues of Midwest Holsteins. NEW BUSINESS Resolutions by Dick Muller, Steve Irwin and Brian Olbrich: • Be it resolved to approve the acts and deeds of the officers and Board of Directors for the past year. • Be it resolved to thank Dale Drendel and Boyd Schaufelberger for serving on the Board of Holstein USA and representing the members of Illinois Holstein Association and other Holstein members throughout the U.S. • Be it resolved to thank Addison Raber for her service as 2018-19 Illinois Holstein Dutchess and Kelly O’Conner for her service as 2018-19 Little Miss Holstein. • Be it resolved to thank all officers, employees and state committee chairmen and sitting directors for their efforts and accomplishments this past year. • Be it resolved to thank all sponsors and donors for State and District Holstein functions. • Be it resolved to thank the coaches and advisors for the Illinois Junior Holstein Association, University of Illinois and Cooperative Extension Service for their effort, influence and accomplishments in supporting the youth of the Illinois Holstein Association, as well as those who financially support the Illinois Junior Holstein Association fundraising activities. • Be it resolved to thank Lenkaitis Holsteins – the Lenkaitis Family of St. Charles, Illinois, for hosting the 2019 State Picnic. • Be it resolved to congratulate the Junior & Senior Dairy Bowl teams as well as Jeopardy, Speech Contest, Poster and Scrapbook contestants, as well as DJM finalists for representing Illinois at the National Convention. Brian Olbrich made a motion to approve the resolutions. It was seconded by Kevin Wendling, and the motion carried. Jerry Smith then nominated Herb Schmiedeskamp for Vice President of the Illinois Holstein Association, moved to close nominations and case a unanimous ballot. Brian Olbrich seconded, and the motion passed. Ed Smith nominated John Erbsen, Jerry Smith, Kevin Wendling and Aaron Heinzmann for the Executive Committee and moved to cast a unanimous ballot. Kathy Miller seconded, and the motion carried. The 2021 State Convention is TBD. Kevin Wendling will check with the Effingham club. Hello Illinois Holstein Members, At the Senior Holstein Convention in Quincy, IL the juniors put on a silent auction to help raise money for upcoming events like National Convention, Spring Thing, ect. The silent auction items were donations from friends and family of the holstein association. We want to thank all the donors and buyers that helped support the junior’s success at this auction. There were a total of 35 silent auction items and 3 live auction items. From the bidding on all these items the juniors were able to raise almost $2000 to put towards their upcoming activities. Zach Paul, Worden, received the prestigious Judi Collinsworth Outstanding Junior Exhibitor Memorial Award at the 2019 Grand National Junior Holstein Show in Louisville. The Judi Collinsworth Outstanding Junior Exhibitor Memorial Award is presented annually, in memory of former Holstein Association USA Executive Director of Member and Industry Services, Judi Collinsworth. Winners are selected at each of the four National Junior Holstein Shows, based on sportsmanship, herdsmanship and level of participation in Holstein activities.
