Holstein Show Highlights Making Holstein History with a new class for Summer Jr. 2-Yr-Olds

The Illinois Holstein Association was pleased to present the inaugural class of Summer Jr. 2-Yr-Olds! Thought to be the first in the nation, this class was started to showcase young cows born after June 1, 2016 as the industry is moving towards calving at a younger age. Some of these are even Fall Yearlings in Milk! A beautiful turnout of 11 young individuals were placed by Judge Mandi Bue at the 2018 Illinois Holstein Championship Show in Bloomington on July 20. 1.

2018 Illinois Holstein Championship Show Dedication L-R: Illinois Holstein President Ed Smith, Kathy Miller, Madeline Schultz, Kaye Miller, Bob Miller, Emily Sheehan and Kaylen Miller

The 2018 Illinois Holstein Championship Show was dedicated to Bob and Kaye Miller. As young entrepreneurs, the couple began Mil-R-Mor Farm in northern Illinois more than six decades ago. Valuing a close-knit community, they eagerly committed themselves to supporting others in the Illinois Holstein industry and contributing to the state show. One of their favorite competitions is the bred and owned championship. Not only did Bob and Kaye win this award in 1983, 1984, and 1987, they have also donated roses for bred & owned class winners for decades. Supporting youth has always been important to them. Whether serving in the ring or sponsoring awards, Bob and Kaye have been ever present to champion the next generations of Holstein enthusiasts at the state show. Together, Bob and Kaye bred over 200 excellent cows and numerous state and national production leaders. They developed C Glenridge Citation Roxy EX-97 into one of the greatest brood cows of all time and her descendants can be found in every corner of the globe. From pioneering embryo transfer in the 1970s to judging Holsteins in Australia in the 2010s, Bob and Kaye have been world-recognized leaders. They remain humble and appreciative of all the opportunities Holsteins have given them. One of their greatest joys is being part of a wonderful family that values the farm legacy they built. We thank them for all their contributions to the dairy industry and the Holstein breed, and most of all, for enriching our lives with their friendship. Congratulations!
