Johnny (J F Taute) was born in 1964 in Pretoria as the second oldest of 6 children. His Father, J H F Taute was an artisan while his mother, Anne, worked at the national telecommunication company. He matriculated in Pretoria in 1982 at the High School Hendrick Verwoerd. At school he excelled at sport and represented them in the first Rugby and cricket teams for two years. (1981 & 1982) He also played tennis, soccer, chess and swimming for the school and was a cheer leader and as a cadet leader with the rank of corporal. Johnny showed an affinity for the stage and writing and took part in several high school stage plays as lead actor and writer in the three final years of high school.

Due to the financial constraints within the family Johnny could not study at a university or college and joined the SA Police in 1983 to do compulsory military service.

VIDEO

Johnny learned his video skills as a newbie in the SA Police and went on to start his own production company as per the following CV: SA Police (1983 -1988) Video-unit Johnny received a shoulder operation (Rugby injury) at the end of 1982. So when he joined the SAP in January 1983 he was placed at the Villieria Police station (precinct) to heal before going to the academy in July 1983. Johnny was placed at the media office of the public relations department after graduating from the academy. In early 1984 he showed an interest and aptitude for the electronic media and was placed at the Video unit as a sound engineer. Johnny undertook self study in this field until he received official video training in 1988. *(ANNEX 8)

.. . He soon acquired camera & editing skills through self study too and moved on to filming, editing and directing over 30 video productions on Hi-Band, Betacam & Hi8 format. The programmes were mainly training films focused on: Firearm safety, Special Task Force (SWAT) training, K9 handler’s training and Vehicle driving skills. He filmed journalistic events on homicides and crime for TV and investigations. Johnny was awarded the rank of Sergeant in 1986 before he resigned with full honours in 1988 to join First national bank. He concluded further compulsory annual Policing duties as prescribed by the SA Police until 1994 and is still a member of the Sector Policing for his neighbourhood. During this time, Johnny started an acting career (as freelance actor) and soon had bit part in a national television series named “Schooldays” and went on to act in a couple of Afrikaans and English comedies and dramas and Christian programmes for radio and video. First National Bank (1988- 1989) Johnny joined training department of First National Bank in 1988 in Johannesburg and completed a (Live broadcast) Television Course at Wits University. (ANNEX 5) For the bank he filmed: Training productions, corporate communications and a quarterly news programmes called “Network.” During his stay he completed internal training certificate courses in “Management Principles” and “Human Relations”. Johnny specialised as camera operator (Betacam) and co-director for 18 months. University of Pretoria (1989 – 2002) Faculty of Health Sciences In 1989 Johnny was appointed at the Faculty of Health Sciences to start & head up a Multi-media & Video-unit and assist in the training of undergraduate and postgraduate students at the medical faculty, at the Faculty of Veterinary Science (Onderstepoort) and the Faculty of Dentistry at the Univ. of PTA. He produced video, audio, Graphics and multi-media programmes from research, script writing to full production on subjects such as: • Equine surgery & veterinary procedures • Nursing training • In Vitro fertilization • Dentistry • Surgery and Physiotherapy • Marketing & student recruitment videos for all department • Video productions & Multi-media (Quest) for the Medical Skill development lab. When Johnny arrived to start the department, the equipment on the inventory was low-band cameras and 2 x low band recorders. He was the first person in 1998 to introduce a PC into his office in the Faculty to replace the Word processor (DOS) and when he resigned in 2002, he had fully modified the video unit into a full digital production facility.

.. . In 1995 his department merged with the Multi-media studio at the main campus of Pretoria University. Johnny scripted, filmed, edited and directed programmes on subject matter for departments such as: History, African languages, the Construction industry, Sport, Agriculture & various others. His duties entailed: • Video camera filming • Betacam AB editing • Non-linear editing (Avid, Pinnacle Silver, Toaster & Casablanca Krön) • OB VAN directing • Floor management and live mixing (In studio) • Teleconferencing via ISDN • 2D cartoon Animation (AMIGA) • Graphic design and cartooning (Photoshop & Corel) He was involved in award winning productions: • In 1994 Johnny secured the Institute for Instinctual Media’s (South African Association for Research and Development in Higher Education’s) media prize for University of Pretoria for: The best Multi-Media Learning Resource together with Dr Herman van der Merwe. This was awarded for programmes on Dentistry. (ANNEX 1) •

In 1995 he was awarded their: Media Prize for the best Video Production: “NOT Just another brick in the wall.” (ANNEX 2)

Johnny produced ads for marketing student’s annual competition with RAU and the AAA Marketing School. He produced 3 winners over 4 years.

As freelance actor and presenter he continued as on-camera presenter on educational programmes for: Univ. of Pretoria, SASOL, & Christian -TV and he recorded voice-overs for such video programs. On the educational front Johnny archived the following: • 1991: Completed diploma in “TV script writing and Creative writing” at Success College. (ANNEX 3) • 1998: Obtained diploma in Journalism at Intec College. (ANNEX 4) • 1998: Completed the scriptwriter’s course of the ATKV. • 1999: Completed a UP web designer’s course. (ANNEX 9) In 2001 Johnny returned to the Faculty of Health care on request of the Dean of the faculty to produce Multi-media material and Inter-active CD ROM programmes at their Skills Lab and for all health departments. Johnny played the supporting role in Leon Schuster’s (“Mister Bones”) comedy feature “Sweet & short” as the captain of the Makulu rugby team in 1993 and continued to act bit parts in local TV dramas. As sportsman he continued to play action cricket and played for the Harlequins club in Pretoria and later as a senior member of the Silverton Rugby first XIV until 1994 when they beat SA Police to win the league.

.. . Johnny won the 1999 National Step Championship and assisted in gym training at Interfit Gym in Pretoria. (ANNEX 10) Freelance productions Johnny started to freelance as “Taute Productions: (1990 -2002) to produce video programmes for corporate clients such as: • Johnson & Johnson • DANSAC Medical • ABI Coca-cola • PG Float Glass • Health management companies and • Anglo Platinum. • He concentrated on his love for cartooning and animation and sketched 2 books on the 20 (Kaizen) keys for workplace improvement in the mining and mineral sectors for mining companies Anglo Platinum and Impala Platinum and animated inserts for TV programmes. Dream Merchant (2002 -2003) In 2002 Johnny partnered up with a corporate client and started Dream Merchant as director of the video company. •

He worked as director on corporate productions for Anglo Platinum and on Broadcast programmes for the investigative TV series called “Carte Blanche” on subjects such women boxing, science and Makhaya Ntini. (sport) He worked as DOP on several documentary productions both in SA and in Israel where he filmed “Cave dwellers” and “Saving Jesus” and worked on a journalistic documentary film (“For all to see”) for the national broadcaster’s (SABC) series. His interest in the history of the Bible (studied 6 times complete from Genesis to Revelations) and religion assisted in the completion of several more Christian programmes for TV programmes such as “In Pas.” Productions were produced with digital Sony and Canon cameras and editing was done on Pinnacle’s Liquid Purple and Liquid Gold.

After 18 months Johnny resigned to form his own production company. i-LINE FILMS cc (2003 - Current) Johnny started i –LINE FILMS cc to produce training, corporate & broadcast videos. He started the company with less than $ 7000. Johnny is currently the sole owner of the company. (ANNEX 7) Sensible management principles and entrepreneurial skills were acquired through self study and research and reading books such as “10 day MBA” and the “Rich dad “ series and magazines such as “Entrepreneur.” The production company is the National Small Business Chamber’s current National Small Business Champion (2009-2010) and has more than $ 500 000 worth of assets. .. . The venture survived the global crisis is 2009 -2010 through the employment of sound economic principles. Johnny has been contracted by the office of the King of the Royal Bafokeng since 2002 to assist in electronic media and photography. Platinum is mined on the properties of The Royal Bafokeng in South Africa. i-Line films also serves the subsidiaries of the Royal Bafokeng such as Royal Bafokeng Holdings, Royal Bafokeng sport and Royal Bafokeng Administration. When it comes to producing music videos he has extensive experience in creating video for the Christian music market for a series named “Gospel Gold.” Secular videos are not excluded and he has produced productions for local artists too. Although i-Line films is a production facility and not a film school, Johnny compiles various books and manuscripts for the personnel, students and prospective filmmakers on subjects ranging from amongst others: “Stating your own Business,” “Marketing your business,” “Basic Video & Photography course,” and “Directing” to better themselves in business and video production. (Manual examples attached B1 – B4) All i-Line personnel, previous and current have all been trained in-house by Johnny Taute. Johnny publishes an online magazine called DIRECT on ISSUU (www.issuu.com/ilinefilms ) for aspiring video directors and he is an avid writer of blogs on a variety of subjects on WordPress.com (www.iline.co.za) and www.move.co.za for such film students. The FIFA SWC 2010 has selected the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Rustenburg as a venue and Johnny Taute had full FIFA accreditation to enter any FIFA stadium and any pitch. i-Line films had 2 media accreditations for the stadium as well and Johnny and all his employees had full accreditation for the Royal Marang Hotel and for filming the England Football team. To date Johnny was accredited and filmed personalities amongst others: • SA Presidents Nelson Mandela, Thabo Mbeki and Jacob Zuma. • The Dali Lama • Richard Branson • USA VP Joe Biden and President Bill Clinton. • Sport personalities such as: Pele, Springboks (Under John Smit) and All Blacks (lead by Ritchie Macaw.)

SKILLS DEVELOPMENT

Johnny trains all of the employees working for the company. i-Line Films boasts a tremendously successful and proven skills training programme. We develop our students through practical applications. All training starts with

.. . a quality photographic course before the students are immersed into the deep video pool as they are trained to shoot, edit and direct videos. Initial Skills Transfer started in 2002 •

2004 -2004: Derick went on to start his own enterprises in 2004/5 and Albert is a school teacher.

2004: Lesa van Rooyen joined Johnny’s company in 2004 as a junior photographer and first full time student. Lesa is now accomplished in video filming, editing and photography. She went on to join the “Economist Group” in 2009 as photographer.

2004: Jennelee Dreyer was Johnny’s fourth candidate, specialising in photography while touching on the basics of video editing. Jennelee was self sustainable by end 2007 and is currently the owner of her own venture.

2005: Piet-Hein Taute trained as part time “grip” on dolly & tracks as well as mini-jib.

2005: Lebogang Bogopane and Patricia Mosito joined the first 5 year fully fledged programme. Lebogang and Patricia are from the North West province. Special accommodation arrangements were set in to place and i-Line films obtained a two bedroom duplex to serve as a hostel for them. They undergo a dynamic 5 Year training programme until the end of 2010.

2006: Shani Kuhn joined as our last student in January 2006. It took only 8 Months to train Shani and make her employable. She is currently employed as a video director and on-line editor.

2008: Dirk Pieters started is training in 2008. Dirk is an accomplished photographer

2008: Jean Pohl started training. Today, Jean is a skilled audio technician, music composer, cameraman and video editor.

2009: Desiree Moila a film school student required practical experience and we extended her the invitation to work with us on productions. She was able to find employment in the industry directly afterwards.

The vision of our skills programme is as follows: • To train candidates to be a skilled photographer by the end of the first year of study and have a basic understanding of video production. Where needed, driver’s licences are obtained. • To train candidates to be a skilled photo journalist by the end of the second year of study and level one video cameraman. • By end third year, the student must be able to script, film and edit a basic production as a journalist. Sound management principles are taught to ensure a stable business. • The 4th and 5th years are the practical years and here the student will be used to do full scale productions.

As an ongoing training programme and to assist novice filmmakers in all arrears of filmmaking, Johnny blogs and podcasts regularly on various sites such as: www.mov-e.co.za and on the i-Line films’ site at www.iline.co.za. Johnny also writes and posts a bi-annual news letter (www.iline.co.za) on the progress of i-Line films and their clientele. Corporate productions are also posted on i-Line films’ YouTube site.
