BROADCASTING IN SA

2 We know and understand the spirit, limitations and expectations of local and intercontinental broadcasters. Our crews filmed, and directed several episodes for SABC’s “Good Morning South Africa”. i-Line Films worked together with EB Productions on inserts for “Ontbytsake” and “In Pas” for KYKNET. We filmed an programme “For All to See”, on SABC3’s “Expressions” and “Carte Blanche” on various inserts such as “Women boxing”, “A Profile on Makhaya Ntini” etc. In 2003 i-Line Films did on-line editing for the KYKNET series “Oulap se rooi” and did full production and directing of episodes for “Reise & Soetkyse” and music videos for “Gospel Gold” in 2006 -2008. We also do infomercials for corporate clients. We filmed, edited and directed the documentary (shown on SABC2 in 2009) titled "Wounded healer." The video was filmed on location in Santa Barbara, California, LA. We produce the series on KYKNET for Portico Financial Services named “Jou geldsake in 90 sekondes”

Syndicated documentaries: i – LINE directed several syndicated documentaries in the 1990’s. Amongst others we filmed and directed the “Return of the Tsetse fly” and “KUSOMA” a programme screened at the international Women’s Conference in Beijing, China. “KUSOMA” takes in depths look at the obstacles facing South Africa’s black women and the programmes implemented to help them overcome such hurdles. Johnny wrote and directed “What a beautiful world” (1990) which focused on the growing number of street kids in Sunnyside and the dangers they faced. The programme rocked the pillars of justice for everybody involved in the matter. In 2002, he was Director of Photography on a program investigating religion in Israel and in 2003 - 2005 Johnny co-directed and edited a syndicated documentary on the History of the Royal Bafokeng nation in Phokeng. Since South Africa is plagued by serial murder, in fact having the second highest number of serial homicides in the world, we embarked to study the minds and methods of serial murder in a syndicated programme funded by the National Film & Video Foundation of South Africa.

The programme “Tortured Souls” was completed after 3 years of research and production and has represented SA in the 2007 Hot Docs Festival in Toronto, Canada and Cape Town TV. The main focus of i –LINE’s syndication of programmes to the international market is to illustrate our continents most precious commodity, the spirituality of Africa. The i – LINE crew have been involved in numerous international documentaries and have travelled the country, the continent and the globe extensively and filmed in countries such as: Angola, Brazil, Botswana, China, England, Ethiopia, Ghana, Germany, Italy, Japan, Malawi, Mongolia, Mozambique, Namibia, Singapore, Swaziland and Switzerland, UAE, USA (Atlanta, California, Detroit, Tennessee & Washington DC), Zimbabwe and Zambia. A pilot for the programme series was completed on the first African Princess to fly a helicopter. The programme is named “An African Princess’ Diary” (2005) and includes picturesque scenes of Africa and its people. i-Line Films is currently employed by the Royal Bafokeng Kingdom in Phokeng to assist the King’s office with all aspects of the electronic media and various productions to inform the public on the cultures and history of the Tswana peoples. One such programme is the complete History of the People of the Dew while our multicamera team is employed during their annual Excellence Awards, Sports events at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace such as International Rugby and National Soccer Leagues and at the Quarterly mass meetings or Kgotha Kgothe.

Skills Training

i-Line Films boasts a tremendously successful and proven skills training programme. We never solicit donations; instead we invite stakeholders to grant us video and photo productions to develop our students in practical application. The students work close to the production team on all aspects of a production from concept to finish. Our mission is to make our students self sustainable business owners at the end of their training. Training starts with a quality photographic course, the journalism follows before the students are immersed into the deep video pool as they are trained to shoot, edit and direct videos. Initial Skills Transfer started in 2002 when our first students, Albert, AndrĂŠ and Derick, was introduced to the world of photography and then later into video. They went on to start their own enterprises in 2004/5. Jennelee is our third candidate, specialising in photography while touching on the basics of video editing. At the end of 2006 Jennelee will complete their diploma in journalism. Jennelee started her programme as photographer and video editor in 2004 and should be self sustainable by end 2007. In October ‘05 Lebogang and Patricia joined the first 5 year fully fledged programme while Shani joined as our last student in January 2006. It took only 8 Months to train Shani and make her employable. She is currently employed as an on-line editor. Lebogang and Patricia are our first students to join us from outside the Pretoria Area and from the North West province. Special accommodation arrangements were set in to place and i-Line films obtained a two bedroom duplex to serve as a hostel for them. They completed a dynamic 5 Year training programme in 2010 as seen below. Our current student, Phillicia, started with photography in Jan 2011. We continue to give opportunities to several students who need to do a quick internship at a local enterprise.

12

Skills development programme The students are trained on all aspects of photography and video production and then the management of an own business. These skills are not transferred merely to give the students employment but to help them start their own ventures and eventually become employers themselves. When a trainee exits the programme he will be a fully fledged: Photo journalist, Video journalist, Business manager, a video director with all the skills from concept to delivery. The vision of our skills programme is as follows: • To train candidates to be a skilled photographer by the end of the first year of study and have a basic understanding of video production. Where needed, driver’s licences are obtained. • To train candidates to be a skilled photo journalist by the end of the second year of study and level one video cameraman. By this time a CC must be started by the students and money made from basic productions such as weddings are saved into a CC account. • By end third year, the student must be able to script, film and edit a basic production as a journalist. Sound management principles are taught to ensure a stable business. • The 4th and 5th years are the practical years and here the student will be used to do full scale productions and start to manage their own business while i-Line oversees the management of the CC. • The schedule can be shortened to accommodate students.
