The Importance of Friends
o
ne of the things that most greatly affected me growing up, was making friends. Making friends is just as important as meeting family; it is an important bond. A bond that I think pushes people forward and helps us develop. As humans meet new people, and interact with their surroundings, friends are a propelling force that keeps us wanting to develop and learnmore about our surroundings. For example, the first day of school is one of the first processes of developing key understandings through developing friendships. Like when I first started attending school; you may not remember your first day, but I remember mine! It was like a nightmare…. Just remembering it gives
me chills. At first my mother brought me to a humungous building I didn’t know, not realizing what was in store as she was talking to what seemed like any of the other regular nice people who she generally talked too. Then, she said the words I would never forget “Okay be a good girl because I’m leaving you here. So don’t be scared, and have fun! Don’t worry I’ll be back later.” With that, my little world cracked into a million pieces. As I cried and held on to my mother’s clothing with all my strength; I was pulled away by the teachers. Beads from my mother’s garment tearing off into my hands. It seemed like the world had ended. I kept crying for what seemed like forever until a girl came toward me and began to talk to me, play with me,

and introduce me to others with whom I made friends. As I began to interact with everyone, my previous view of the school building being scary disappeared. What seemed like the end of the world became the beginning. A whole new world opened in my mind and I began to learn more about people, and why it is fun to make friends by understanding their feelings. I gained new insights and my view broadened. That is why I think making friends is an important aspect when it comes to shaping people, and how they react to their environment.
