ARCHITECTURE PORTFOLIO HAMIDREZA KARIMIAN November 2015
HAMIDREZA KARIMIAN since childhood I have always wanted to creat things that did not exist before.this can be understood from the handmade gifts I have given to my beloveds and also the paintings I drew at the age of 3,including a unique scenario,in addition to my efforts to make a poem using only the words that I heard at that time before going to school. When I was 11 years old I was accepted in the school of the national organization for the development of exceptional talents(NODET) and I stayed there for the rest of my secondary education.upon entering NODET school, I started to learn how to compete with the best and this was a real challenge as each year we had to show that we were still deserving to stay in this school. I hold the belief that all humans do follow a goal in their life which explains the reason behind their existence, therefore, this is our responsibility to discover that goal and fulfil our purpose.finding this purpose can help individuals to find the true meaning of life. In high school I realized that architecture could provide me with the fulfillment I had been seeking all my life, therefore,I decided to study architecture at Shiraz University. As a senior student,I become increasingly assured day by day that this was the right decision. At the age of 23,I still find myself as an ambitious and creative who is always looking at his surroundings very carefully to find out all the harmonies and rhymes in the universe.during my years at the university, I have devoted myself not only to academic projects, but also to study and research in traditional and modern subjects complemented by aesthetics in desert architecture.consequently, this background enabled me to consistently rank among the first 5 students in the last 3 semesters, culminating in the first steps to the writing of an article entitled “The necessity of studying des-
ert areas potentials in designing Ecocamps Furthermore,I strongly believe that this background, coupled with my hardworking spirit and my sense of responsibility, convinced my teachers at the architecture faculty of shiraz university to make me teaching assistant, ask me to participate in their professional design group, and introduce me to other students to provide them with assistance in my free time. To illustrate why I am interested in Politecnico di Milano,I should say that after conducting extensive research on the internet and consulting my experienced professors,I found Politecnico di Milano to be the best architectural university in Europe and one of the most highly accredited universities in the world.it has come to my attention that the architecture faculty of Politecnico di Milano covers a wide range of disciplines in architecture which can provide the impetus for further research and gives students the possibility to have access to a great number of professors and benefit from their knowledge. As an enthusiastic and motivated student,I am sure your university can provide me with an environment which will help exploit my potential to the full.i know several of Politecnico di Milano`graduates whose works have been quite outstanding, and they have all recommended your university wholeheartedly. All this is in addition to the fact that the Italy is a leading country in scientific fields, especially in architectural concepts and skills. On the other hand, life has always seemed like a struggle for me,a conflict which I have tried my best to undergo through perseverance and hard work.studying in a foreign country is also a challenge which can help me to enhance my educational abilities.Experiencing different cultures help people to view their life from different angles and it leads to a profound growth in people`s personalities.among all countries,I believe this growth can be reached to its full degree in a country like the Italy, where people are allowed to speak and express themselves without limitation. Here,I would like to give a brief of my final thesis work, but as I am a senior,my final project has not been assigned yet.As soon as it is determined,I will provide you with information in this regard.

the library was dictated by low-rise surrounding buildings and the wish to save valuable heritage on the site – old trees and historical building. In order to harmonically integrate into the environment, I decided to divide the building into a few small volumes instead of a single large building. The common space in library serves as a place to meet. To meet different people which come out from business, library, administration and cafe volumes. This place would become a public space. Its a place where you encounter different events which can arouse your curiosity and inspire your creativity. This project thinks that this goal would be most successfully achieved if such a programmatic flexibility became the library’s main identity feature. In the library volume, i decided to differentiate the function of floors, where ground floor would be easily transformable for various events and intended to group activities. I believe that a more open for people library is a better library. Therefore i proposed a big space for different activities and flexible furniture combinations. The tribune generates various seating conditions and usage. it can become an active place for discussions or a calm reading and relaxing place while looking at the town panorama.

Started With the idea of breaking the traditional housing typology in Shiraz , both lght and public space are demanded in this project. By cutting the prginal rectangular building volume into an L-shape volume and over lapping it with each oher , as atrium is created as wll as a private trrace for each floor. The creation of the private terrace allow the resident to have their own public space sepreated from the putside world. On the other hand, the design utilize some of the inner courtyard roof and connects them with a continous path. The design of the inner courtyard mimics the undulated terrain and pond from the nature, with this public space, people can takr a break a from their fast pace life and enjoy this green inside a city .

The design of this observation center in manifested in the idea of a continious circulation. this provides many opportunities architecturally, as it allows the obsrvation center to have equal parts interior and exterior program. The interior program has a perforated facade to allow a fragmented view to the outdoors. As visitors ascend the structure. Each corner provides a new view at the haigher elevation. Oncs the visitor reaches the exterior ciculation, no barriers abstract the views from the platform.

The government constructed a concrete box that encased four metro in the Zand neighborhood in order to reduce noise. This construction solved the noise problem, but created a barrier that split the urban fabric. There are already plans to transforn the top of the box into a park similar to the highline in Shiraz city however, it will still remain a barrier between the two sides of the neighborhood. For this project i propose an intervention that atemts to make the box a destination not a barrier and provides access to the top of the box from both sides. Can views exploded the desire and need for community center for the youths of the Zand neighborhood. My proposal is to establish a youth center at the intersection of Samand Street an the box that will also provide a public space to connect pedestrains to the top of the box and the other side of the neighborhood. This architectural intervention wil reconnect the neighborhood and make this node an important center in the community

ELEVATION Elevation the form allows public access to the top of the box and does not intrude on the ciculation of the park on the top of the box.
REMOVE The center of the bulding mass is removed to reduce the weight of the intervention above the box, and to create relationships among programs within the building.
CIRCULATION The circulation on the top of the box can pass underneath the structure uninterrupted. The circulation over the box uses the building structure on one side to reach the box level and ramp on the other.
FORM AND PROGRAM The form encloses all private programs. The residental space created beneath the the structure is developed to create a public program that can connect the box level to the Zand Street.
SPATIAL RELATIONSHIPS The interior spatial arangement allows for relatioships among different levels and programs.

This proposal tor the redevelopment to a large SUPERBLOCK . This site is also symbolic as it mediates two modern urban conditions, the bustling avenue (Karim khan zand Street ), and sleepy neighbourhood with low-density and winding streets (1 RD Street ) . The proposal addresses such issues as Karim khan zand Street retail renewal, defnsification, and the opening up of a large site to pedestrians and cyclists. The site, in a grand gesture, is sliced in its center, splitting building masses and creating a wide-pedestrian-only causeway, linking Karim khan zand Street and 1RD Street. The site features various styles of drawings, designes to accommodate a spectrum of demographics. The project actively targets those demograohics that currently prefer to remain in the suburbs, introducing such features as ample outdoor place space, at least double orientation in all units, and townhouse designs which introduce the practicalities of suburban dwelling in an urban setting.

The central element of the design is a slender tower of tinted glass, wich is placed atop the central housing form of the site. The structure is organized around a point-core system, with two elevators and two means of egress servicing all 33 floors. In order to break up the mass of the tower, a two-level platforn serving as elevated green space and party spaces with fully glazed windows and 350 degree views was placed on the 7th floor, creating a dramatic interlude between the architectural language of the podium levels and the tower.

This project aimed to revisit the lost tradition of teamtime and the once normal act of initing guestd into the home to share a simple act of communion. Looking at todays trends, I pulled my redesign inspiration from coffee. The goal of the coffee bench is to bring the same feeling of car=tching up over a cup of caffee back into the home. conceptually i wanted the design and feeling of the bench to relate to the history of the process and consumption od cofee. To start, I looked at the equatorial countries cofee is most produced in Shiraz, Tehran, Esfahan, Tabriz. The walnut acts as a band, wrapping around the bench creating a darker and more solid connection to the ground. The patina effect of the copper will act as a living document of the age of the bench.

This personal project was born from the necessity to find a way to cool my laptap and the will to improve my skills on one of the most amazing plugin for rhino Grassjopper. My computer is turned on 24 haurs a day and during the toughest deadlines it could become incredibly warm. Due to this reason i develop the idea of designing an object that i could have physucally buld by myself by means of a laser cutter and cardboard sheet. The shape, drawn in rhino, has been designed in order to be comfortablyused on a desk or on the user legs. The so called waffle structure was introduced in Grasshapper , through wich, at the end of the process. I had the possibility to decide and easily change the number of elements that compose the final object.

The location of the villa assume to be in Ramsar , wich is a unique place characterized by the typical rough seashore. Wild plants, sand and water are the main elements that that distinguish the surrounding landscape s. The main idea behind the project is therefore to emphasize the wildness of the area by placing a clean shaped volume that naturally finds its way into the landscape according to view, orientation and privacy. The house lays on the ground like a rock does in the desert: it is evident and part of the surrounding at the same time, an architecture between human-,ade and nature. The dwelling structure wriggles to offer different vies to the sea. The 15m sqm of the over ground space has been fitted as a unique volume where the sleeping room, kitchen, bathroom, living room and entrance are the same time, isolated and communicting with the whole residence.

Sky Green is sited along vibrant ammercial district of Enqhelab Street. The Enqelab street life is captured and extended along the lower retail levels of the building. Trees lined pedestrain walkways and staggered patterned glass facade provided a sense of urban scale at the street level. Above the retail shops rise 2 towers of residental apartments with generous recreaction facilitiies. A landscape courtyard unwinds the residents as they enter the development off the bussy streets. Green landscape is a part of the biulding material and envelope. Tower A apartments have extended balconies with trees and tower B apartments have a soft green creeper on its mesh screen facade. Skygardens placed at every unit can enjoy visual greenery outside their apartment windows. The recreational facilities are interior spaces designed to allow natural light and ventilation. The modern architectural language of the biulding contimues into the interior architecture and are designed in a contemporary style with refined detailing.
