1. Logo design: smiLance (2010) In 2010, as I was working for Ferdon Inc., I founded my own design studio called smiLance. This new vocabulary created by myself is the combination of the words smiley and balance, showing what I consider design is. I think that design should be a way of thinking and treating stuff around, not merely to pursue perfectionism when design, instead is to keep a balance between users, technology and environment, helping people with problems solving and providing them convenience and fun to leading their values and lifestyles. Design should bring us happiness, make everyone a smiley face. Thus, I gave the name smiLance to my design group and designed the logo together with the T-shirt for it.
2. Web design: online portfolio (2012) In 2012, as I was going to apply for MS program in US, I design my own online portfolio (www.tianjieli.com). There are four parts in my portfolio in total, about, portfolio, resume and contact. The page about introduces my personal information, my website and what is HCI to me. The page portfolio contains intern projects, course projects, designs and other relevant work I did from 2008 to 2012. The page resume shows the overview of my education, experience, skills, honors and activities I took part in. The page contact lists my phone number, email, skype and postal address. The photograph I had taken in Tibet Plateau acts as the background of the whole website, for the picture is so meaningful that brings me many unique thoughts towards HCI this field. The process of this web design is actually a challenge for me as I was not skilled in HTML and CSS before. Firstly, I built the framework of the website and finished the wireframes and sketches of the web. Then I used Axure RP6.5 for prototyping. However, the code generated from the software had many bugs which produced limitations for scanning.
3. Humidifier design (2011) This product which is a wireless humidifier is designed for babies, small families or the small size offices or the personal working places to keep a suitable condition. The additional function of the product is to share the information and the users’ mood with his or her family, colleagues or friends, aiming at improving the relationship between the family members and coleagues. Meanwhile, the friendly user interface of the humidifier can also add recreation between family members. The touch screen provides easy operations for the users. The interaction doesn't need to be learnt by anyone, not only the children but also the old.
4. Bottle design (2010) The bottle design was a part-time job for the company Shanghai Yuandian Design Inc. and the renderings are some of our design studio's work.
