PRESENTS

The Aglow candle stick holders were designed in mind of the designer’s trip to Berlin. The form, following the angular and square structures found in the architecture of the city. The blocking of the two materials, the woods and metals, showing the contrast found in the shadows around Berlin that were noted.

The contrasting materials used in the holder (which include walnut and black steel, dark oak and brass and oak and steel) add an industrial yet chic aesthetic due to the different hardness of the wood yet the ‘softness’ found in the lightness of the metals due to their smoothness. The material combination creates contrast between shadow and light, as found in the shadow images from Berlin, the dark oak being the darkness and brass being the light. The brass accent top of the candle holder creates a smooth finish to the hardness of the oak.

Working with sofa bed company, Springvale, as a pair we were asked to re-design the traditonal sofa bed particularly the mechanism of the three fold bed action. My partner and I opted for a very simplistic design along with mechanism.

The streamline and simplistic forms of the sofa was designed to suit a wide target market base, from the creative professional to the comfortably retired. The material combinations aids this from their being a subtle grey cotton to an out there orange smart velvet. The mechanism is on a leaver system so the user will not need to use force to make into the sofa bed, unlike the traditonal sofa bed mechanism. As well as that, the no pillows need to be removed.

Type 2 diabetes has its restrictions especially with travelling, having to plan for every circumstance that might happen. From this, ‘Insulin to me...’ was formed, to allow insulin dependant diabetics to travel more spontaneously and with ease. This was especially noticed in adolescents whom by do not want to stand out for having this disease and not make them different from their peers.

Insulin to me‌ is a system whereby it enables these diabetic young adults to travel more spontaneously without the excessive planning by using Amazon Air Prime. All the user has to do is order the pack from Amazon online or via the app, inputting their NHS number. Then the app tracks the users GPS which is transmitted to the Amazon Air Prime Drones to which they will deliver the pack to the user in 30 minutes. As travelling is seen as a rite of passage by adolescents, enabling diabetics to travel more freely using this system means that individuals will not feel alone and different.

The brief for this project was to design a solution that could be implemented and incease the engagement of swimming as regular fitness with an emphasis on ‘have fun.’ This tagged vest was designed as a new indoor water sports game which combines the rules and idea from tag rubgy but within a different environment, the pool.

The vest is designed with 2 tags on the vest that when pulled allows water to be absorbs into the pads which will then increase in size, therefore making the game more difficult restricting the players movements. The internal component of the pads are made from a hydromorphic material that increases in size when in contact with water. brand moodboard and storyboard

THE

CUPPA KETTLE

THE CUPPA KETTLE is a modular kettle that has an asethetic of being simplistic and sophisicated. By being modular means that if a part breaks, then a new part can be sent to the user to replace. As well as that, the kettle is on a subscription contract, whereby the consumer pays ÂŁ8 a year for 25 years.

inspiration, models and sketches

Under this, if a component breaks or the kettle is faulty over the years of payment, a new part will be sent out to resolve the fault. This way a more luxury and durable kettle , ÂŁ200, will grow with a family and last them a life time, through the modular simplistic design.

For this project , the brief was to design a way to encourage and support households, businesses and or communities to reduce food waste.

THE

FOOD WASTE APP

The Food Waste Project is an app designed in order to reduce the overall food wastage of a household. It achives this by organising the household and advising the amount of food used and promting when food should be used. With certain features in the application, including a portion controller and menumaker, the user can prepare for meal times better as well as organise what is spent on a food shop. In addation, the app notifies the user when food is going out of date so it isn’t wasted as well as it corrects the amount of food a certain member of the household should be eating based on their ageand gender. With the growing use of technology in today’s society, this app fits in with this as well as aiding an evergrowing issue of increased food waste.

Instead of carrying too much mouthwash with you, these perfect little pods, located inside the bag, enables the user to have the correct doseage for daily use. Once the pods are empty, the user can refill once back at home for their next trip. The case is designed so the user can take all their neccsities with them aswell as the pods. This includes space for a toothbrush, toothpaste, floss and a large compartment for soap.

the ADAPTABLE READING CHAIR For a personal design project, I designed and manufactured this bespoke chair which features orange adaptable chair panels. This allows it to change to adapt each user dependant on their height, to allow maximum comfort. This chair was designed with a specific consumer in mind, a ‘hip’ professional with an eye for unique and eye catching pieces of furniture.

THE DRINKS CABINET As a second personal design project, I designed and manufactured this drinks cabinet. I gained an insight into wood working as well as working in a live workshop.
