LOCAL & INDIGENOUS ENGAGEMENT
HEALTH, SAFETY & ENVIRONMENT
ITS works collaboratively with its clients, the community, industry and government to maximise local and Indigenous participation in some of the most remote areas of Australia. We have developed a successful commercial and community participation model for Indigenous employment, training and retention that often exceeds contract targets.
At ITS, we are committed to actively ensuring the health and safety of all our employees, and the people around us. Led by senior management, we abide by our own safety systems and procedures, and we have a strong culture of safety and risk awareness. We take responsibility for our own health and safety, and we hold each other accountable. We also assess and manage risks on site before they become an issue.
Our employment strategies address specific skills shortages, create social and economic benefits, and give people a brighter future.
Due to our cultural connections to land and sea, we take care to preserve and protect our environment. Our goal is to achieve zero harm through our operations.

METRO MINING LIMITED LOCATION Skardon River, Far North Queensland PROJECT VALUE $6.8M/Yr REFEREE John Khoo JKhoo@metromining.com.au PROJECT DETAIL Schedule of rates contract to mine and tranship bauxite for Metro Mining. ITS was contracted to provide transhipment, stockpile levelling (on barge) and stevedoring. Our team consisted of 98% Aboriginal employees. The work involved high-risk activity over water, tight and inflexible timetables, and a high number of subcontractor interfaces. The client also required delivery of 3.5 million tonnes of bauxite ore per year, regardless of weather. ITS was required to maintain 30% Traditional Owners employment. The company exceeded this target in the 2 years of operating at Skardon River.
