ACDC – Servicing Australia’s Remote North

KATHY GLASS, DIRECTOR

ACDC’s head office is based in Katherine, however the business overcomes significant logistical challenges to service several thousand square kilometres in the remote north of Australia: all areas north to Darwin, south to Tennant creek, east to the Gulf areas and stretching to the Western Australian border to the west of Katherine.

Kathy Glass has established and grown a multi-award winning, Indigenous family business in an industry where female leadership is rare.

As an Aboriginal owned and operated company, we are committed to supporting Aboriginal communities, including a focus on creating Indigenous employment opportunities. ACDC employs a team of 12 full-time employees, including qualified electricians and builders, communication technicians, refrigeration technicians and licenced solar panel installers. ACDC’s lead electrician is Allan Glass, Kathy’s husband. Allan is a licensed electrical contractor with more than 25 years’ experience. “Our focus is on increasing our local Indigenous workforce, and making a positive difference to Aboriginal communities.”

As an Aboriginal woman who has been successfully leading projects across diverse sectors for more than 20 years, it is usual for Kathy to operate outside gender and cultural stereotypes. With strong communication skills and contagious enthusiasm, she employs a talented team who are equally dedicated to the company vision. Kathy takes a proactive approach to the ongoing success of ACDC, ensuring the business is at the forefront of new technologies. She also focuses on strengthening the knowledge and skills of her team. Kathy is particularly keen to assist Aboriginal people living in town and in remote communities by providing education, training and employment opportunities. An example is educating and training people to perform the ongoing maintainance of the air conditioners installed in the communities by ACDC. Capability Statement - Page 4
