Limassol has changed a lot over the past few years! Being the largest city of Cyprus, Limassol does not stop to impress and fascinate both the locals and tourists, getting upgraded and more developed as days go by, but keeping in touch with its traditional character. As a cosmopolitan destination, the city now combines both old and new, both countryside and city, both a local and an international aura.

A walk in the old town of Limassol is highly recommended for any visitor that wants to experience the ambience of this contrast. Visitors can choose to do this independently or join one of the local tours organised for the last five decades, free of charge, by the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, the Limassol Municipality and Association of Tour Guides. Offered every Monday at 10 am from the tourist information office in the Old Port, the tour takes visitors through the narrow streets of the town, with their 1930’s baroque style balconies and characteristic small cafes and shops, showcasing Limassol’s traditional city character. In several spots of the route, visitors can look down at the glass covered underground ancient remains that date back to the fifth century. The tour continues down the coast line where the new and renovated ‘Prokymea’ seaside park is a very fresh, bright, inviting and enjoyable walk. The area also features a sculpture park showcasing works of art created by Cypriot, Greek and international artists.

In proximity, the ‘Old Port’ is an interesting contemporary project also boasting the traditional fishing harbor of Limassol, being in stark contrast with the new modern developments. Right next to the ‘Old Port’, the Limassol Marina becomes the ‘must visit' place, contributing to Limassol’s upgrading and significant transformation of the area within the last few years. The Marina enhances the city's role as a prime sea destination both for business and leisure.

The walk is a wonderful way to get in touch with the local history, culture and people of Limassol. The rediscovered small-town charms, combined with the newly modern touches, make the city so vibrant that one will not fail to be inspired!
