Mae Fah Luang University (MFLU) was established by the Royal Charter on the twenty fifth of September 1998, as an autonomous public university, with financial support from the Royal Thai government. H.M. the King mercifully designated H.R.H. Princess Maha Chakkri Sirindhorn to perform the official inauguration ceremony of the University and the Sirindhorn Chinese Language and Culture Centre, and to confer degrees upon the first graduates of the university, class 2003 on the third of February 2004.
