The Art of living Al Fresco

Nestled on the edge of Honey Island Swamp, Dave and Angelea Kronlage have created an outdoor area to rival the most luxurious resorts. Not only does the area feature a pool, three fire features, and a pool house, but it also includes a cold plunge pool and a swim-up bar. The drawings and design for the project are by Randy Angell Designs out of Dallas, Texas. Rock “N” Pools executed the design to perfection, including the custom pool finish in Pebble Sheen with glass accent tiles. Interior Designer Christine Diggs designed the custom steel shade pergola with a retractable cover and selected all the exterior materials, furnishings, accessories, pillows, cushions, rugs, and lighting for the entire project.

As you walk into the loggia, you can view the vast expanse of the project. The flooring throughout is Mediterranean limestone, which was specially imported by container for the project and was custom cut in the Versailles pattern. The pavers were also custom cut in the same pattern to accommodate the pool design. A raised bar with Quartzite counters looks down upon the sunken swim-up kitchen, which features Danvers custom metal cabinets provided by

Jackson Cabinetry in Covington. “This sunken kitchen was a first for us,” says Patrick Fulton, owner of Jackson Cabinetry. “It all fit together beautifully, like a puzzle. These cabinets are designed for outdoor use and will stand up to many years of entertaining.” The appliances were provided by Southland Plumbing in Mandeville.

At the far end of the loggia is an outdoor fireplace and a comfortable lounging space filled with Summer Classics furniture. Rugs were sourced from Stark Carpet’s Outdoor Collection by Christine Diggs. The cypress ceiling in the loggia adds contrast to the cream and white colors used throughout the project. Bevelo Gas and Electric Company provided the gas lanterns on the wall of the loggia.

An Ipe bridge links to a custom limestone walkway, which appears to be floating above azure water, leading to the comfortable sunken seating areaand large firepit. The custom cushions and pillows are in Perennials premium outdoor fabric. A custom four-head contemporary waterfall enhances the view of the swamp. Tall palm trees are planted in custom limestone planters and surrounded by sun-resistant ferns. Sun loungers are placed on a shallow ledge as well as on the dry limestone perch.

This outdoor area is designed to be enjoyed in all types of weather and for a variety of entertainment. The subtle pool and outdoor lighting give a peaceful ambiance to the area. Whether entertaining a small intimate group or larger gatherings, the overall space can accommodate both.
