Imagine: You will be looking for someone to ask you for some stripy paint. Impress with stunning vibrant colours and gorgeous soft pastels. It is simply the most effective technique to learn and one of the easiest.

Step 1: is always, wash glassware thoroughly in warm water and dry with a lint free cloth.

Step 2: Pour a strip of the two main colours side by side but not touching. If adding silver, drizzle a small amount over both colours. This method does require a lot of paint and the amount you have out will probably band quite a few pieces for you so make the most of this but it is still necessary to have an excess of paint to work with the blending. Step 3: Dampen a flat 1 inch wide brush, and remove any excess water. Begin to load the brush back and forward through the centre of the paint, making sure you don’t turn the brush over and mix the two colours together as one but work them into each other creating a third. Position your glass in the centre of the wheel and use the palm of your hand or a finger across the top to support without obstructing the spin. Apply the brush to the glass and spin until you have reached the desired effect. Load the brush when necessary and watch for any drips. Always work down the glass, begin a new band by flipping the brush over and blending the same colour together and returning the spin a couple of times until the start point disappears creating a beautiful smooth transition of colour. Rainbow Banding is very effective on its own or it can be used as the base of a design. Allow to dry thoroughly before applying any additional glitter writing or detail. Step 4: Have the outlining bottle, glitter, dusting brush, large container and a teaspoon ready. Position and complete any writing and highlights, working quickly to sprinkle glitter on while paint is still wet. Allow to dry for about 10 minutes before dusting any excess glitter off. Step 5: It is best to leave any pieces that have heavy paint work to dry overnight. Banding, brushwork and glitter are all ok to go into the oven once dry. Bake at 150C for 30 minutes. Allow to cool before removing from the oven. Always ensure good ventilation.

It’s the only way to decorate glass The paints I recommend are dishwasher safe if you have followed the manufacturer’s instructions accurately and your project is completed using only that medium. In a Spin Nique’s Way™ Projects include the use of glitter, diamantes and foil combined with the qualities of the paints and by following the instructions a very durable hand wash finish is achieved. Recommended drying and oven times do vary between manufacturers. Each In a Spin Nique’s Way project offers a common baking instruction suitable for achieving a high level of durability.
