Music for Schools
There are countless benefits to an arts education. Schools with music programs have markedly higher graduation and attendance rates compared to schools without music education according to the National Association for Music Education. Music is more than just an elective; it's science, language, history, and art. Even though it is clear how valuable music is as part of a well-rounded education experience, many children remain unable to participate in their school's music programs due to limited access to musical instruments. That’s where we come in! Since 2003, Music for Schools has provided thousands of instruments to students who needed them through this free lending library program. Students who couldn't have participated in their school’s band or orchestra program were able to because of this unique opportunity. Working directly with schools and teachers, instruments are loaned for the entire academic year completely free of charge. With over 1,000 instruments in the library, including typical band instruments such as flutes, clarinets, trumpets, and trombones, and orchestral instruments such as violins, violas, and cellos, we have something to offer for every music student. For more information on the instrument lending library, contact Tracy Sawyer at tsawyer@lutherburbankcenter.org.

Business Partner Spotlight REKHA'S STORY I'm Rekha Skantharaja, a community member, patron, and board director for Luther Burbank Center for the Arts. As we head into our most critical fundraising event of the year, I'm here to tell you my LBC story. It was almost 5 years ago that I was invited as a guest to attend the Art of Dessert. I witnessed the performance of the Mariachi Ensemble. It was during this performance that I was deeply moved and urgently called to get involved. Science has proven that performing in visual arts ignites pathways in the brain that lead to better social and emotional development. Kids that consistently interact with the arts are more attentive and perform better in math and science. The LBC isn't only a community treasure as a performing arts venue; behind the scenes we reach 50,000 kids in 7 Bay Area counties. With your donation we will continue to give these kids the chance to become not simply good performers today, but great people tomorrow. Just $100 allows a family to attend a show together or buys a child an instrument; just $250 provides a student access to a life-changing master class; $1,000 will provide 6 teachers access to the tools to bring their lessons to life through the power of the arts. Donate now and join us virtually on April 17 for amazing performances, exciting auction items, and to learn more about how the LBC is changing our world. Thank you. Click here for Rekha's full story.
