How To Throw A Great Super Bowl Party… …from someone who knows nothing about football. What I lack in football knowledge, I make up for with the ability to throw an amazing party. Here are a few tips you may need if you are considering having your own Super Bowl Party.

guests will be talking about the next day. See "Super Bowl Chili" recipe on Page B-12.

1. Enough seating. Only invite as many people as you can seat comfortably. Your guests are there to watch the game. They probably would have stayed home if they knew they would have to stand in a corner all night.

3. Beer. Don't buy a 300 pack of Natural Ice Beer while you keep the six pack of Magic Hat hidden away for yourself. You're hosting a party, make sure there is enough quality drink for all. If you can't afford to serve your boozy football friends with enough of the good stuff we understand, go with PBR. This way, at least your guests will look more happening in their Instagram photos.

2. Appetizers. This is not the time or the place to go with the pre-made platter of mediocre snack foods. Put some love into the food. It's the only other thing, besides football, commercials and half time, your

4. Wings. If you don't know how to make them, buy them. They are a Super Bowl necessity. Buffalo wings, burn-yourfingers wings, barbecue wings, dijon wings, cajon wings… wings, wings, wings, and more wings.

5. A Super Bowl pool. A party is always more fun when people are winning/losing money. It's a fact.

Harbor Grill in East Hampton will offer half price wings from their menu.

If you can not possibly get these five items together you will need to choose another venue. Try heading to one of these fine establishments for all of your Super Bowl needs:

Buckley's Inn Between in Hampton Bays offers two for one appetizers at the bar, a visit from the Miller Girls and a free half time buffet.

Southampton Publick House. This is where you will find me. They offer Super Bowl Madness starting at 5 PM with $5 burgers, $5 pints, wings and jalapeno popper specials.

Townline BBQ in Wainscott is offering $3 Coors Lights pints and $12 pitchers as well as $4 pints and $15 pitchers of tap beer. Also full pint cooler specials including fresh lime margaritas, MTO sangria, Townline dawg, and the apricot smash. At 4 PM the cocktails are $4, 5 PM drinks are $5 and at 6 PM the price is $6.

I n d i a n We l l s Ta v e r n in Amagansett has all beers on draft for $4 by the pint and all items on the bar menu will be $5. The game will be viewed on the three large flat screen TVs.

IN THE NEWS

by Asher Lee ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) The energy this week is about a good deal of pushing and pulling. It will be necessary for you to be a bit patient and hold on to your ideas and ponder them rather than take action right away. If you can wait until your ideas fully evolve, this will be best. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) So many choices! Because Jupiter is in your sign, there may be too many choices swirling around. While this may make you uncomfortable, just remember that your job is to choose which person or group or organization ‘feels’ more in sync with who you are. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Resist the urge to do too much and say too much and even commit to too much. Remember that you need energy for yourself. You can’t keep giving it all away or you will feel burnt out. That burnt out feeling is a sure sign that you have given too much away. Get okay with saying no. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Magic is in the air and it is connected with your ability to talk about everything that has been going on inside of you. Get real about your feelings and your needs. While you may be good at talking about everything under the sun, you can often leave out what your needs are, so be direct about that. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) There is the opportunity for change all around you. Don’t be afraid of letting something go so you can move in to the future a little lighter. Old ideas and ways of looking at things may need to be updated with a perspective on what is actually happening. Let go of what is not working. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Not the time to put the brakes on your creative energy. Look to what you feel and what is moving you and then move creatively in those directions. Following the creative flow needs to be the priority over what seems to be the practical next step. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) When your mind is drawn back to the past, use this as an opportunity to retrieve something that you may have left there. Thoughts of your childhood may remind you of something you loved and lost in the process of growing up. What did you used to love to do? Reclaim it.

Today’s Birthday: James Ambrose Johnson, 1948 James Ambrose Johnson Jr. of Buffalo was much better known as Rick James, the notorious funk master who is, unfortunately, remembered more for his wild partying than his music. James was a singer his entire life, influenced by his famous uncle Melvin Franklin, a member of the Motown group The Temptations. He fled to Canada to avoid the military draft and worked with a number of musicians. In fact, he might have ended up a member of Buffalo Springfield or even Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young -- he worked with several members of those groups. He was a member of a group called the Mynah Birds with Bruce Palmer and Neil Young, and the group scored a deal with Motown Records, only to have it fall part when the group’s manager stole the advance money. James was a marvelous talent. He was an expert producer, a gifted songwriter, and he could play a half-dozen instruments expertly. When he finally released his first solo album under the name Rick James, he wrote, produced and played virtually every instrument on every track. After that his career took off with four gold records. The smash “Super Freak” was an international sensation, a staple on every playlist in every disco in the world. As a producer he worked with Smoky Robinson, The Temptations, Teena Marie, Eddie Murphy. James was a fanatic party-goer, but his drug use became a source of concern, and his behavior became increasingly bizzare. He spent most of his money on cocaine -- he said $7000 a week for years -- and ended up in jail. He was found dead in his Los Angeles apartment on August 6, 2004. An autopsy revealed myriad health problems, including diabetes and a bad heart. He had seven prescription drugs in his system as well as cocaine and speed, though he did not die from an overdose per se. He was buried at Forest Lawn Cemetery back home in Buffalo.

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Time to bring things back together into one big picture. Recently you may have needed to isolate parts of the things you are reviewing, but now is the time for it to come together. Analyzing is not the answer, seeing the ‘whole’ is the better choice.

about yourself that you had no idea about. You may find that you are good at things you’ve never tried, so explore your options.

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) A little detachment may be necessary right about now. Loving and kind and yet detached. You will need to honor another’s right to do things in their own way, even if you think they are doing something crazy. Trust them and encourage them to trust themselves.

PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) I know you sometimes feel very vulnerable, yet this is a great strength for you. Putting yourself all out there is your best choice; just resist the urge to defend yourself or your choices to anyone. You don’t have to explain yourself to anyone, just be boldly you.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) It is all about truth and not trying to move too fast right now. Make sure that when you are talking that you put forward the whole truth rather than parts of the truth. Also don’t be afraid of putting yourself out there, even the parts of yourself that feel vulnerable. Don’t be hasty, yet don’t hold yourself back either.

NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday.

AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) Self discovery is the energy this week. Expose yourself to new and different things and see if you don’t find out something

Super Bowl Chili Ingredients 1 lb beef top round (cut into 1 inch cubes) 3 cloves of garlic chopped 1 10 oz can of kidney beans 1 onion (diced) 2 jalapenos (diced) 1 10 oz can of crushed tomatoes (strained) 1 ½ tbsp cumin 1 tbsp chili powder 2 tbsp paprika 2 tsp cinnamon 2 tbsp brown sugar 2 tbsp ground black pepper 3 tbsp vegetable oil 1 oz Worcestershire sauce 3 tbsp salt Method First start by heating a sauté pan. Add half the vegetable oil and brown half the cubed top round. There will probably be too much meat to brown

all at once so you will do it in two batches. When all the meat has been browned put all the ingredients together in a slow cooker, then deglaze the sauté pan with the strained tomato liquid. Simply cook on low for four to five hours in the slow cooker. Top with some cheese or sour cream if you like and enjoy. www.chefjoecipro.com

T h e Wo m a n in Black (PG-13) Daniel Radcliffe has chosen this neat little thriller to begin his post Harry Potter career, and it’s a wise choice indeed. Credit the director James Watkins’ deft hand, a taut screenplay, courtesy of Susan Hill and Jane Goldman, and the luminous presence of Oscar nominee Janet McTeer.

New In Theaters Contraband (R ) Mark Wahlberg is now a full-fledged manly tough guy – hell, he coulda brought down the 9/11 terrorists. And so he gets roles like this, wherein he displays nerves of steel while smuggling contraband in order to save his family. and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target,” according to the press release. Guess who wins.

New On DVD The Whistleblower Ok, it was a slow week for new DVD releases. In this one Rachel Weisz gets a long-deser ved starring vehicle. Unfortunately, despite a supporting cast featuring Vanessa Redgrave and David Strathaim, the film never takes off. The plot has a lot to do with it – Weisz plays an American cop who goes to Bosnia, and if truth be told it’s not really a good role for her. It’s got its moments, though, it’s rated R for “disturbing violent content including a brutal sexual assault, graphic nudity and language.” In other words, watch it after the kids are in bed.

Now Playing Haywire * (R ) Steven Soderbergh (Traffic, Ocean’s Eleven)fashions a complex thriller, and expertly guides the viewer through a maze of plot twists. An all-star cast led by Channing Tatum, Ewan McGregor, Michael Fassbender, Antonio Banderas, Bill Paxton and Michael Douglas make it all work. Young Gina Carano makes her debut a memorable one, performing her own high-adrenaline stunts. It’s quite the movie for a post-Oscar, mid-winter release.
