From Montauk, To Manhattan, To Maui - Summer Never Ends At The Four Seasons Resort At Wailea By Laura Anne Pelliccio The Spa at Four Seasons Resort in Maui embraces its inocean weightless spa experience, Wai Vari®. As the autumn months approach and the Hamptons high-season dwindles down, most Hampton-ites either head into New York City or go on their well deserved vacations. One thing that we all know about the East-End, is that when it rains and when it is cold, there are three things to do: eat, drink or go to the spa. This concept applies during the offseason for traveling. As for myself, this Fall, I am in love with Maui and the authentic Water Therapy just discovered on the islands Four Seasons Resort. I had the pleasure of speaking with Pat Makozak, Senior Spa Director at the Spa at Four Seasons Resort Maui, on a signature Water Therapy she has unveiled at this breathtakingly exotic spa destination. During Fall, the humpback whales will return to the resorts luxurious pacific surroundings with the soothing symphony of their echoing sounds. Being embraced by this amazing marine life, along with the healing elements of the ocean and ambience, this s i g n a t u r e Wa t e r Therapy was designed. Relieving physical discomfort and mental stress, Wai Vari® was customized for guests by a seasoned spa therapist of the five star property. Besides being offered in one of the most beautiful places on earth, Makozak expressed what truly makes this Water Therapy so unique, "The Wai Vari® treatment was created by a member of our massage therapist team to capture the tranquility of floating in the ocean while experiencing the therapeutic and nurturing benefits of massage. This combination allows for both the mind and body to completely relax. The feeling is primordial, being embraced by the ocean and hearing the song of the whales. There is nothing quite like it." How Wai Vari® is performed: Guests are escorted to a lounge chair with towels, a wetsuit and other amenities which include a ginger tea, to begin the signature experience. Massage therapists treat guests in the warm waters of the Four Seasons Resort Maui with gentle stretching, relieving areas of pressure and discomfort. Clients in treatment will actually hear the whales singing underwater during this experience while floating weightlessly in the tranquil setting. Wai Vari® is a phenomenal therapy for anyone but is also offered as another option for pre-natal clients. So while it is available all year round, the added touch is during whale season, which is at its peak during November. This 25 minute service requires an extra 10-15 more minutes for resting. Price $135. If you are heading to Hawaii this year, or planning for that milestone occasion, be sure to schedule “Maui time” and keep on the lookout for the Wai Vari® Water Therapy offered at the Four Seasons Resort. Laura's note: Offering massage therapy components from the spa’s ‘aqua craniosacral’ massage, Wai Vari® may qualify as a healing thalassotherapy, which are authentic treatments using elements from the ocean and sea life to improve and cure illness. Thalasso is sought out by spa-goers, scientists and some industry professionals to be among the best form of natural healing. The shift in the spa industry right now is the discovery of the healing benefits from ocean life and integrating them onto a spa menu of services for a different style of unique experience. Tea With The Queen Of Artisanal Gourmet Sugar
Your brand, Chambre de Sucre, began as a sugar business for you, is this correct? I started Chambre de Sucre three years ago. I import handcrafted gourmet sugars from Japan that are used for coffee and tea. We are a 270 year old, 17 generation deep, family owned business. My inspiration is my grandmother, whom I visited every summer in Japan growing up. She served these sugars
and I learned that it is so simple to make your everyday coffee and tea special and elegant. As my company has grown, I've added a hand blended tea line.
What kind of teas do you produce and do you have a favorite? I hand blend my own teas and they are each inspired by members of my family. They are actually named and numbered after my family. I currently have seven teas - a green rooibos, pu'erh, white, green, black, a tisane and an oolong. I love them all equally, but I have a special place in my heart for pu'erhs, so I'd have to say my Chocolat et Fraise, a pu'erh blended with hand shaven chocolate curls and dried strawberries. I even numbered that one after myself. Where do you want to see Chambre de Sucre in 10 years? I'd love to have a storefront with maybe even an attached café. Something truly unique, elegant, and simple. I'd love it to be designed by a Japanese architect and I'd love the menu to be inspired by Japanese
cafés and tea rooms. In 10 years I hope to expand my team and territory. I would love to see them in Canada, UK, France and Germany--just to name a few. Yo u r s u g a r s and teas are beautifully packaged in such detail, where do we find them? You can find our sugars in New York City at Todd English's The Plaza Food Hall as well as in the Dean & De l uc a st o re s. You can also find us nationwide in 40 HomeGoods stores. Over the next few months, you will see us expand to Crate & Barrel, HMK (Hallmark concept stores), and Terrain. We're thrilled that so many people have embraced our product and see the value in elevating the everyday cup of tea and coffee.
Independent/Jessica Mackin
By Laura Anne Pelliccio The Independent Newspaper and Hampton Daze Magazine had the pleasure of hosting a delightful tea party recently using Chambre De Sucre, an elite, high quality sugar company derived from Japan. The brand was founded by Lisa Kuzinaki, who expresses that the sugars have been in her family for many generations. Lisa has perfected these delicious handcrafted sugars and imported them to the United States for luxury spas, hotels, specialty stores and at events for guests to enjoy. Chambre de Sucre has expanded into a line of delicious teas. I had the pleasure of interviewing her and learning more about this amazing business:
Any insider tips on finding a great Afternoon Tea in New York? My go to place for English style Afternoon Tea is The Lobby Lounge at The Mandarin Oriental Hotel, New York and The Pierre. Japanese style, Cha-An in the East Village.

TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) With your ruler Venus finishing up in Scorpio this week, it is all about the passion. What you are moved to do will be the correct direction to take steps. Practical considerations may need to take a back seat to your passion. Sounds crazy? Trust your gut. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Yes there are beautiful pictures in your head right now and if you can focus that energy into some kind of art, that is a great idea. However, you do need to make sure you are seeing the rest of your life as honestly as possible. Life needs to be about the truth right now. Speak the truth, see the truth, and live the truth.
CANCER (June 22 - July 23) This is a week when physical activity serves you greatly. If you could track your world on a daily basis you would find that during any month, you have a full cycle of feelings and desires. Align your feelings with your desires by making sure you use your body in some way. Physical experiences will keep the emotional energy moving.
LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Interestingly this week, although your physical energy is high, your intuitive energy is also heightened. This intuition may serve you in the form of dreams or simply a nudge from the Universe. Stay connected to that subtler energy, for there may well be something you have wanted for a long time waiting. by Asher Lee ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Do not be afraid to show off all the parts of yourself. I know you may be told that you are too much, but speaking the “whole” truth is what you are designed for. Make sure you do just that. Allow yourself to shine and put yourself out there, just don’t push and trust the speed by which things unfold.

led. You can also trust that how things are right now is how they need to be to take you to the next place. Overall, know that you can have peace of mind right now, in this moment. If you make peace of mind the priority, your choices will be easier along the way. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Going with the momentum of things is really the better choice. If you can make yourself flexible enough to stay in the momentum of how things are right now, you will find that you end up exactly where you want to be. Trust what is unfolding.
SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) With Saturn still in your sign you really almost have no choice but to take things one step at a time. This is one of those tortoise and hare moments and you really do need to be the little turtle. Take your time, don’t be in a hurry and, for heaven’s sake, don’t be hasty. Give everything out in little bits.
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) New ideas may abound this week and while I know you love taking action on things right away, you may want to wait a little bit before you run after these new ideas. There are more ideas coming. You don’t want to move too quickly on one idea only to find the next idea even better. Right now, just listen. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Clarity will come and it is best to wait for it. There is a great likelihood that something will be revealed this week that you haven’t been able to see prior to now. If you are unsure or unclear about something, it will be best to wait for the clarity. A new person or a younger person may be very inspirational.
Growing up on the tough, Upper East Side of Manhattan, young Julius dreamed of becoming a doctor, but his mother Minnie had other ideas. As usual, mother knew best – she pushed her five sons into show business. Julius, Milton, and Adolph went out on tour as a singing group -- they didn’t find the going easy. As a singing act, the group learned early on audiences didn’t appreciate their limited talents. But, young Groucho noticed, their onstage banter drew laughs at every stop. The three oldest brothers reinvented themselves as ethnic comedians. Leonard, the oldest, became Chico and parodied Italians; Arthur took on the persona of “Patsie Brannigan,” an Irishman, and wore a shocking red-haired wig. He was a gifted slapstick comedian, and since he was uncomfortable speaking in public, it was decided he would be a mime named Harpo in the act. Julius at first took on a German persona, but the many Germans living in New York took umbrage to his portrayals, so he became Groucho, the loveable crank. He would maintain that persona for the rest of his life. The Marx Brothers became wildly successful, playing the Palace Theatre to sold out crowds and along the way adding their two other brothers, Milton (Gummo) and Herbert (Zeppo) to some skits. The act became a staple on Broadway; each show garnered rave reviews. When sound was added to the movies, those plays were put on film, including Animal Crackers, Monkey Business, Horse Feathers, Duck Soup, and A Night At The Opera. The brothers made 13 movies in all. Groucho embarked on a solo career, and was chosen to host the radio show “You Bet Your Life” in 1947. It was hugely popular, and broadcast on TV for 11 years beginning in 1950. Throughout his career Groucho used the greasepaint mustache and eyebrows and oversized hornrimmed glasses he had donned long ago. Legend has it he was impossible to recognize without the make-up and used to appear at gatherings where his name was brought up in conversation, and even discuss himself in the third person. Groucho lived to be 87, some said a young Svengali-like girlfriend, Erin Fleming, pushed him too hard. Other friends said she rejuvenated him and made his last days happy ones. Groucho kept his wicked wit throughout, coining dozens of one-liners that are widely used today, including “Women should be obscene and not heard,” and “A man’s only as old as the woman he feels.” allowed to be happy. Check in with yourself and know that you will have to give yourself permission to be happy first and foremost – then look at your life again.
PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) You are not too much. I know sometimes you may feel that way or people may tell you that, but you are just enough. It is not about toning yourself down or giving your power away to someone else. It is about trusting who you are and expressing yourself fully and allowing others to adjust around you. Don’t hide out.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs 2 (PG-13) A lot of folks liked the first effort – we didn’t. Most everyone agrees the sequel is too much of a mediocre offering. Still, there are worse things to do for parents with kids on a cold, Saturday afternoon.

Gravity (PG-13) And here come the Oscar contenders. This thriller pairs Oscar winners Sandra Bullock and George Clooney who get stranded in space when a routine space walk goes awry. The respected Mexican filmmaker Alfonso Cuaron out does himself; the camera work itself is Oscar-worthy. This may be the most visually stunning film since Avatar, and the storyline is so suspenseful, audiences are spellbound. Easily the best film of the year thus far.
Enough Said (PG-13) Writerdirector Nicole Holocener’s tender, sitcom-like portrait of two emptynesters coming together is getting a lot of attention because it was James Gandolfini’s final role. But it stands on its own merits and the chemistry between Gandolfini and Julia-Louis Dreyfus is genuine. Catherine Keener co-stars. This film has “hit” written all over it. Rush (R) Director Ron Howard, a two-time Oscar winner, pans for gold again with this sleek, high tech recreation of the 1970s Formula One rivalry between James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth) and Niki Lauda (Daniel Bruhl). Oscar pedigree is everywhere: The writer, Peter Morgan, is a two-time nominee, and the producers have a slew of statues. It is a riveting tale of an exotic world
Thanks For Sharing (R) Our own Gwyneth Paltrow co-stars in this winning dramedy about men who cope with their neuroses, and how it affects their relationships. Mark Ruffalo plays off Paltrow and the pair light up the screen. Tim Robbins, Josh Gad, and Patrick Fugit play the other “guys” with aplomb. The director Stuart Blumberg has fashioned an adult film that isn’t gross, silly, or maudlin – and in this day and age that’s quite an achievement. Hell Baby (R) This comedic take on the old haunted house genre is sometimes funny, too often sickening, and improvised to the point of embarrassment. We found ourselves rooting for the demons. Rob Corddry goes down with the ship. Jayne Mansfield’s Car (R) Billy Bob Thornton, who wrote, directed, and starred in Sling Blade, once again attracts an A-list of actors for his latest effort. Set in 1969, it is the story of two families that come together for a funeral. Robert Duvall, John Hurt, and a very scruffy Kevin Bacon give genuine performances, and, like Sling Blade, Thornton’s quirkiness and originality often shine through. Give it a try.

aside to cool. Slice two of the shallots into rings, dust them in the flour, and fry in a saute pan on medium heat with the olive oil for 3 minutes. Set them on a paper towel to dry. For the dressing: Toast the coriander seed in the oven at 375 degrees for 5 minutes, then allow it to cool and use a spice or coffee grinder to grind the seeds. In a blender cup add 1 shallot, mustard, ground coriander, and the juice from the oranges. While blending these ingredients slowly add the blended oil until you have reach a thick emulsified dressing. At the end you

When the beets have cooled, peel off the skin under cold running water. Cut thin uniform slices of beet and layer them in a circular pattern.
