The Crucible
Bay Street Theatre’s Literature Live! presentation of The Crucible, by Arthur Miller, is being presented live on stage in a professional production company through this Saturday. The play is directed by Murphy Davis, Artistic Director of Bay Street Theatre. The Crucible is about the Salem witch trials that took place in the Province of Massachusetts Bay between 1692 and1693. The play was written as an allegory of McCarthyism, when the U.S. government blacklisted accused communists. Cast members Ken Forman, Joanna Howard, Kate Mueth, Al Bundonis, Mackenzie Engeldrum, Kate O’Phalen, Rob DiSario, Lisa Cory, Peter Connolly, Chloe Dirksen and Joel Leffert do a fantastic job of recreating the Salem witch trials. They take you back in time to the woods of Massachusetts Bay. For info on showtimes visit www.baystreet.org. This show is suggested for ages 13 and up.

Silver Linings Playbook (R) Director David O. Russell (The Fighter) is at his best revealing the quirky side of neurotic family members. In this offbeat romantic comedy, a disgraced son (Bradley Cooper) returns to live with his parents (Robert De Niro, Jacki Weaver) after a prison stint, determined to rebuild his life. A mysterious girl enters the picture and the fun begins. The film becomes yet another star vehicle for Jennifer Lawrence (The Hunger Games, Winter’s Bone) who proceeds to steal the show. Think Oscar nomination.

Today’s Birthday : Michael Strahan, 1971
On this day in 1980 350 million viewers -- the largest television audience in history -- tuned in to “Dallas” to find out who shot J.R. Ewing. Back in 1963 the beloved former heavyweight champion Max Baer died – he was only 49. Speaking of pugilists, Gene Strahan was a pretty fair boxer before becoming a major in the U.S. Army. He once beat Ken Norton, who was also a heavyweight champion. On this day in 1971 his youngest son, Michael, was born. An army brat, Michael grew up in Germany but came home to Houston to live with his uncle and complete his senior year of high school. He played organized football for the first time there. By then his gap-tooth smile and easygoing manner were already evident, and those traits would help make him a TV personality later in life. While attending Texas Southern, Strahan began getting better at football, and developed a knack for sacking quarterbacks. The New York Giants noticed and drafted Strahan in 1993. By 1998 he was a first team All Pro selection. By the time he retired in 2008 Strahan had two Super Bowl rings and held the all time sacks record. His transition to television was seamless. He was hired to be a football analyst and appeared in numerous commercials, most noticeably for Subway and Nike. In October he was hired to co-host “Live With Kelly and Michael” along with Kelly Ripa, who has a house in Water Mill. ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) This might be a good time to exercise your healing muscles. Someone around you may really need your support. Feel free to extend yourself, even if they don’t take all of your advice. Still give what help you can and then allow others to make their own choices. Choose to believe the best of others. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) You simply have to be courageous. Well, maybe it won’t be simple – but it will be the one consistently best course of action through whatever unfolds this week. It won’t be about not being afraid. It will be about facing and moving through those fears. You are strong enough and bold enough. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) You are in a great place. I mean, think
about it. Really see where you are. Be grateful. Now the hard part. Let go of your expectations, especially the ones you have about others. Allow things to BE. Stay in gratitude. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) The table has been set. Time to sit down and enjoy this time that you have worked so hard to prepare. Take a moment, maybe a few days, and allow yourself to really enjoy your life. Not big giant partying – but quiet pleasure with your fears and worries set aside. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) What can you do? It’s kind of a wacky time. This week things come together and it will be best to trust and believe in yourself and ignore the naysayers. Let your star shine and stay in hope and gratitude as things unfold –
VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Change is always inevitable. How we respond to change is key. Don’t go kicking and screaming - open up to the idea of change. If you allow it, it could lead to exactly where you want to be. Trust yourself. Trust the Universe. Trust change. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Objectivity and refraining from judgment are the things to do. No rushing and no assuming. I’m seriously suggesting you wait things out and remain neutral. Observe dispassionately before reacting. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) If it is true that your friends seem a bit detached and home is feeling burdensome, turn your attention toward yourself and check in with what you need. Others probably really can’t meet those needs – they’ve got other stuff going on – so it is your job. Set your goals and meet your needs and carve out your destiny. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) If you haven’t mentioned how much you are moved by that special someone – you need to get to it. It may be a bit challenging to put all you are feeling into words, but you need to give it a shot. Follow your passion and do your best to keep others in the loop. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) The energy this week can go two ways – creative, spontaneous,
November 21, 2012 B-9
free to be moved in unexpected and intuitively sensed directions (i.e. FUN) or you can follow all the old patterns, filled with anxiety, doing only what you think you are supposed to do and basically not having any fun at all. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) If you take things one step at a time you are unstoppable. Truly. This is a time of great ideas, great plans. Take yourself to task and let us in on all of it. Just remember to take your time and plan well. Your considerable enthusiasm may make you try to put the cart before the horse. Resist this. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) This is a good time for you to be supportive and inspirational to those around you. You really do have a good view of things and good beliefs to live by. Put those beliefs to the test by living your life by them. Inspire others by your example and remember to have fun along the way.
