SeptemberFest: Art, Food, Music And A Stagecoach. By Kitty Merrill
“The bells were ringing, our souls were singing, do you remember, never a cloudy day – yow!” Visitors to Southampton will remember the 28th (and 29th) of September as SeptemberFest fills the village with music, food and fun. Organized by community leaders and civic organizations, Southampton SeptemberFest is designed to highlight the area’s rich cultural heritage and close connection to land and sea. It all starts Friday at a Kick-off Party held in Agawam Park. Revelers will get to try local wine and craft beer, plus delicacies served from gourmet food trucks. One of the Hampton’s favorite bands, Paul Mahos and New Life Crisis will rock the harvest. The party runs from 6:30 to 9:30 PM and tickets are $25 in advance at the Southampton Chamber or $35
at the door. On Saturday a Harvest Day Fair begins at 10 AM on the grounds of the historical society museum. Same time, a farmers’ market takes place at 25 Jobs Lane and a juried art show opens at the cultural center. At 11 AM, an ar t projects workshop is held on the steps of the Parrish Art Museum, while the Friends of the Rogers Memorial Library at the institution host a book
sale. Street music is offered by Jim Turner and Nick Kerzner. More kids crafts including airbrush tattoos, face painting and pumpkin carving begin at 11 AM and run till 4 PM at 25 Jobs Lane; Jester Jim delights the kiddies at the locale at 11:30 AM. Manic Pumpkin Carvers ply their craft on the steps of village hall. In Agawam Park folks have the chance to take a ride in an authentic Wells Fargo stagecoach throughout
the day. Things really start to cook -figuratively and literally -- at noon, as Project Vibe provides the first of the day’s concerts in Agawam Park. Also performing throughout the day are the Montauk Project, Goldspot, Miles to Dayton, and Rhett Miller & Serial Lady Killers. Concurrently, street music throughout downtown is on tap. And what fall festival would be complete without a chowder contest? Over a dozen of the finest restaurants and cafes in Southampton are contributing chowder competing to see who is the Best of the Hamptons. The contest star ts in Agawam Park at noon, as does “Taste of Southampton,” serving local food, wine, and craft beer. Check out the SeptemberFest website and visit them on Facebook for updates to the schedule. kmerrill@indyeastend.com

New On DVD Snow White And The Huntsmen (PG-13) Kristen Stewart, dark mane
Coming Soon
Looper (R) Writer/Director Rian Johnson has himself a winner. This offbeat tale of time travel and hit men has captivated critics and preview audiences. Bruce Willis is terrific, as is Joseph-Gordon-Levitt – both men play the same character (don’t ask). Emily Blunt co-stars.
New To Theaters Solomon Kane (R ) It’s an action film. I t ’s s c i e n c e f i c t i o n . I t ’s fantasy. But it’s boring. By the way, lots of people get killed. James Purefoy has the title role, and Brit vets Pete Postlethwaite and Max van Sydow get to ham it up big time.
and all, gets the title role as the beleaguered beauty who has drawn the ire of the evil queen. Stewart can look dull and bored around werewolves and vampires and equally nonchalant with the evildoers and would-be assassins in this wacky film. It’s Charlize Theron, though, who bedazzles as the luscious, but evil, queen; Chris Hemsworth and Sam Claflin also star. It’s fun, visually interesting, and much too long.
Now Playing End Of Watch (R ) It’s basically a cop/buddy movie, familiar territory for writer-director David Ayer (Training Day), but it’s exciting and intense. Michael Pena and Jake Gyllenhaal do the honors. Anna Kendrick and America Ferrera play the requisite babes. The Master (R ) *Joaquin Phoenix is sensational as a sailor who returns home after World War II and falls under the spell of a cult leader, brilliantly played by Philip Seymour Hoffman. The director Paul Thomas Anderson (Magnolia, There Will be Blood) brilliantly weaves this off-kilter tale and it leaves viewers struggling for answers by the film’s end. Costarring Amy Adams and Laura Dern. The cast may earn several Oscar nominations among them.

Today’s Birthday: Melissa McCarthy, 1970 Big is beautiful, and this Catholic School kid from Illinois hit the big time last year when she stole the show in the megahit Bridesmaids, earning an Oscar nomination and a host of other awards. She made a name for herself on the small screen first, landing a regular gig on “Gilmore Girls” which ran on WB TV for seven years. In 2010 she landed a leading role in “Mike and Molly” about two “large” people who fall in love. The series became a huge hit and McCarthy snagged an Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actress In A Comedy Series in 2011. Later she hosted a well-received “Saturday Night Live” that earned her another Emmy. She has since written a TV pilot that she sold to CBS. Her next film, Knocked Up—This Is Forty is due out shortly. McCarthy started her comedic career in the improv group The Groundlings and later married fellow alumnus Ben Falcone. They have two young daughters.
Week of September 26, 2012 ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Change is good, right? Since this is the case, don’t get freaked out if some things change suddenly or unexpectedly. You may want to play the lottery since the energy is unstable and expansive. Change happens for the purpose of growth. That’s what the energy is all about. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) You, along with Aries, should buy lottery tickets. The energy is all about destabilizing that which has become too rigid and growing into the future. Unlike Aries, you dislike change more than most, even though you know that the only way to grow and evolve is for us all to change. You like the idea of everyone else doing it, yet would prefer not having to. Too bad. Enjoy the growth and the change. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) This is a great time to be productive and make great strides in work and business. On the emotional front, however, even though you may be feeling a great deal of emotion you may not have an adequate way to express it. Get creative and find a way to be radiating how truly satisfied you are right now. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Keep moving slow and steady, for you will surely win this race. Speak your mind and heart and simply keep one foot moving in front of the other. There is no better way to use the energy right now than to make steady progress toward your future goal. Don’t be afraid of moving into any role that requires more of you. You ARE ready and this is the time. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Go for it! That is your saying for this week. Give yourself permission to take a chance and go out on a limb. The energy is lined up
in such a way that you will have no better chance than right now to succeed at something you may have been too afraid to risk before. If you have been waiting for just the right time, this is it. Go for it! VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) What is going on? Things may feel a little weird, and it may seem that no one truly understands what you are saying. If you pay close attention, you will be able to see the small steps that you are taking in the right direction. Focus on those small wins and try not to get distracted by the bigger and potentially emotional things that are going awry. I know this may be hard, if not impossible, but give it a try. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Pay close attention to the words you use this week and make sure that you are saying exactly what you mean and that you do mean what you say. A little extra care taken now may prevent long-term misunderstandings. Trust what you feel and try to be as specific as possible in describing those feelings. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Pay attention to having all the facts in a situation, for it is possible that you may be misunderstood or if you go off without all the facts you may open yourself to a very disturbing situation. People around you may be mirroring your anger. See if you can see it in yourself and find a way to resolve it. Don’t over-react. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Even though you may not have the clarity you desire it may still be time to take action. Romantic and emotional energies are large, even if they are elusive. Magic is afoot so don’t be distracted by how things appear; they can change in a moment. Trust the MAGIC of the universe - for sure!

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) I know you don’t like when things begin to get too complicated, but you may find that you are the one who is complicated during this time. Feelings and emotions seem to be at odds with what you know you want to do and you do need to muddle through. More than one person or creative project may be vying for your attention. Trust your inner knowing about these things and try to communicate as clearly as possible. Accept and enjoy what is. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) Your feelings must lead. That’s the only good option right now. Even if they don’t make sense, even if it doesn’t feel comfortable to rely so heavily upon them, you must allow your feelings to take center stage. And, oh yeah, make sure you are telling the rest of us what you are feeling. It would be a shame to go through this alone, when we are all waiting to hear from you.
IN THE NEWS
PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) It may seem that things are welling up emotionally and you may not be able to find just the right way to express all that you are feeling. Fear not, this is only temporary and little by little you will find ways to express all you are feeling. In the meantime enjoy yourself in what you are able to experience and express. Baked Stuffed Lobster Tail Ingredients (serves 4) 4 2lb lobsters 2 tbsp Old Bay seasoning 1 bay leaf 3 lemon 1 c panko bread crumbs 2 egg yolks 1/2 onion 1/2 head of celery 1 c white wine 1/2 lb butter 2 tbsp thyme (picked) 2 tbsp tarragon (chopped) salt and pepper to taste
Method Begin by bringing a large pot of water to a boil. Add the bay leaf, Old Bay seasoning, salt, and lemon. This will be the cooking liquid for the lobsters. While that is coming up to temperature, you can start to fine dice the onion and celery. When celery and onion is ready, heat half of the butter in a large sauté pan over medium heat. Slowly cook the
vegetables until they are translucent. Deglaze with the white wine and let it reduce for another five minutes over medium heat, or until the alcohol is cooked off. When it’s finished cooking set the onion and celery aside to cool while you tend to the lobsters. Cook the lobsters in the boiling seasoned water for four minutes. Be sure to have a large ice bath with ice and water ready to cool the lobsters quickly after the four minutes is up. Once the lobsters have cooled you can break the tails off, then break off the claws. Reserve all the claw and knuckle meat to mix into the stuffing while carefully removing the tail. When the tail is removed, split it down the middle and remove the shell. To assemble the stuffing, mix together the cooked vegetables, egg yolks, breadcrumb, herbs and cooked knuckle and claw meat. Stuff each tail with an equal amount of
