empathetic to the point of taking the world on your shoulders. That’s fine if your own life is running smoothly. Use that psychic intuition to fine-tune your own affairs.
ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Brace yourself for feeling powerful and passionate - sometimes even a bit jealous. Put these energies into pleasing both yourself and your partner and forget those feelings about getting revenge, okay? TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) This week you are jovial and fortunate. I know you always seem pretty lucky, but now more than usual. Your faith is your secret good luck charm - faith in yourself and a higher power. Take that gamble. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Find yourself determined and ambitious this week - willing to make the long haul. Make sure that your equipment is up to the rigors such an arduous climb requires. The best is really a necessity sometimes. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Feel inventive and inspired. You have so many ideas that you feel overwhelmed at times. In an idle moment you’ll think up some really
wacky scheme - but it could be the one that pays off big. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) This week you are extremely dramatic, even theatrical, blowing things a little out of proportion. Those same acting abilities may have to be used to repair the damage if you play Hamlet instead of Cyrano. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) It’s looking like you’re going to be very partner oriented, as in “new” partner. I hope your present partner is willing to keep the relationship new and exciting - otherwise you may need a new one to tip your scales. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Like nearly every other week, you are precise and tasteful. Only this month you may be driving your friends over the top. Relax a little and don’t be so perfectionistic - even you’ll feel better. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) This week you are sensitive and
SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Prepare to be nurturing but shrewd - good for your home-life but just as good for business. Combine the two and see if you can work at home for a change. Don’t worry, this isn’t what retirement feels like. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) You are going to feel flexible and curious - very open to new ideas. Only, don’t be surprised if someone tries to pin you down. You may have to answer either yes or no - not both. Say yes this time. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) This week you are going to feel like some especially soft and luxurious living. Moving quickly is not your speed. As long as you don’t slow down to a halt and lie down on the job, you’ll use this time well.

today’s birthday by Miles X. Logan
Vincent Damon Furnier, 1948 His name hints at his heritage; He has English, Huguenot, Irish, Scottish, and Sioux blood. Young Vincent, whose father was a preacher, grew up in Phoenix and though a good student, he had a lust for entertainment. Vincent, in fact, entered a musical talent show when he couldn’t play any instruments, at 16 years old and improbably won by dressing up like the Beatles and lip-synching their songs. Soon after he started his own band. A good student and athlete, Furnier had originally planned on attending college. Once again, fate guided him toward music – his band, the Spiders, made a record and it became a modest hit. By the time Furnier turned 18 he had renamed the band Nazz and had yet another regional hit single. A radio producer pointed out that Todd Rundgren also had a band named Nazz, so Furnier and his mates came up with another name for their band: Alice Cooper. By then Furnier’s vision of a new kind of music, married to theatrical performances, was taking shape. Replete with snakes, fake blood, decapitated dolls and chain saws, Alice Cooper founded what became known as Shock Rock. In 1971 the band went global with “I’m Eighteen” and a follow-up smash, “School’s Out.” The 1973 album Billion Dollar Babies was one of the biggest sellers of the decade and continues to sell to this day. The band broke up, but Furnier adopted the band’s name as his own and continued performing in grotesque makeup and unkempt stringy black hair, and is credited with defining the metal rock movement. The band was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2011. Sober since 1980, the father of three has another passion that belies his stage persona. He is a fixture on the Celebrity Golf Circuit, one of the world’s best amateur golfers.

a predominantly white campus takes no prisoners — all the assorted food groups take turns getting lampooned. But it’s not the barbs or the quips – it’s the light-hearted feel Simean has for the camera. The film flows seamlessly, with nary a cringe though he wrestles with cringe-inducing issues throughout the film. White People earned the 2014 Sundance Film Special Jury Award and Simean made Variety’s annual list of “10 Directors To Watch.”

An asterisk (*) denotes an Indy Best Movie pick. Coming Soon The Voices (R ) Ryan Reynolds stars as a loveable, yet deranged bizzaro in this odd little effort that is both a funny comedy and a grisly horror film. Director Marjane Satrapi is an original talent who makes films that matter. For the viewer, the trick is to figure out why. Anna Kendrick and Jacki Weaver co-star. New To Theaters Black Or White (PG-13) Kevin Costner in yet another new film? You bet. This time he’s a paternal grandfather caring for his black granddaughter – don’t ask. Enter Octavia Spencer, the maternal grandmother, looking for custody. And there you have it. New On DVD Dear White People * Writer Director Justin Simean’s poignant, witty look at race relations at a high profile university was easily one of the best films of the year. Hollywood has responded to the Obama presidency with self-important biopics with little substance, marked mainly by the need to please the White House by stereotyping onedimensional Caucasian characters. Simean’s look at a group of black students navigating the challenges on

Broadway Reporting From
(& Sometimes Off)
By Isa Goldberg
In Constellations, Jake Gyllenhaal plays a clumsy lover, and a professional bee handler, who gets stung when he meets Ruth Wilson, a charming, playful physicist. As simple as the attraction of opposites, and equally as opaque, Nick Payne’s new play juxtaposes the myriad possibilities that two lovers can imagine to the laws of physics, the immutable and unchangeable laws which bind us to this universe and the array of possible parallel universes, the multiverse. Fortunately, we are spared mere didacticism on the anomalies of modern physics, and its proposal that life is predetermined. “There is no freewill,” Wilson, as Marianne, tells Gyllenhaal’s Roland, still swathed in the innocence of their romance. Directed by Michael Longhurst, the two dance around each other, reliving each interaction from every perspective until all of the likely possibilities of what really happened are entertained. While the outcome proves itself sadly finite, and all too transparent, Constellations is a buoyant seduction, affirming the eternity of love in a brilliant 70 minutes at the Manhattan Theater Club. Shesh Yak At Rattlestick Entering the Rattlestick Theater, we hear the iconic Egyptian singer, Om Kalsoum, moan longingly in the background, singing the popular folk song, “Yaret,” meaning, “I wish.” The song has one line, that’s it. And it’s repeated over and over by the diva. Laith Nakli’s new play, Shesh Yak drives its narrative to one decisive observation about perceived brutality, the man against man mentality that
Westerners have identified about the Syrian character. The playwright’s observations: that brutality breeds brutality, that the use of force creates an equal and opposite force, and that hatred between people keeps them powerless, seems logical enough. Fortunately, Nakli’s tense drama moves beyond the polemical into the inexorably intertwined lives of these two Syrian foes living in the U.S., both American citizens. Before the tale is done each man will be the other’s victim and each the other’s victimizer. Nakli falls naturally into the role of the older man, an outcast and a revolutionary of sorts, while Zarif Kabier’s Jameel hides behind a heavy façade before we get to see who he truly is. Artfully helmed by Bruce McCarty, it takes a while to get past the deceptive simplicity of this piece, but it’s an adventure that is well worth experiencing. A Month In the Country In mid19th century Russia, Turgenev’s A Month In the Country was considered a racy affair, a comedy of risqué morals. As we see it today, in a contemporary translation by John Christopher Jones, it feels like a boulevard comedy in period dress. A pastoral tale about bad marriages, unfulfilled lives, and infidelities, populated by classically trite characters and equally unchallenging conversation, the production turns an old chestnut into a radiant gem. Helmed by Erica Schmidt with a Chekhovian sensibility, people come and go, lives are changed forever, yet the status quo remains, at least superficially, unalterable.
