Over 400 international collectors and prominent figures in art, fashion, beauty and finance flocked to have the first look at an extraordinary survey of four decades of work by famed photographer Robert Farber on Thursdad. The show "Farberesque: From Pensive to Provocative" at 3West57 Project in NYC presented by Cavalier Gallery is a fascinating overview of the vast body of work created by the iconic photographer. The show runs through February 26.
I'm not a huge football fan, but when I heard that Saks Fifth Avenue was having a Super Bowl Tailgate Party, I thought, "sign me up." There were candy bags from Dylan's Candy Bar at Splendid, champagne and cake pops at Alice + Olivia, a photo booth at Hudson Jeans, flipbooks at BCBG, and Blue Point bluebery beer from AG Jeans. I also stopped by Super Bowl BLVD in Times Square on Saturday evening.

This past Friday night Jack Simmons performed his heartwarming one man play “Buddy’s Gift: An Afterlife Experience” at The Suffolk Theater in Riverhead. Jack had mediums Janet Russell and Lynn Van Praagh-Gratton speak after the show and they raffled off two free gift certificates for readings to the crowd. The two winners are pictured with them here. There was a meet and greet afterwards where many shared how touched they were by this comical yet mystical play that was filled with special effects, photos and videos.

one is quite sure why Sony Pictures felt the need to make another one but this remake of the 1987 classic presumably takes the technology up another level, which means it will be loud and annoying. Be forewarned.

Barbara Hershey, 1948
You have to be pretty secure to change your last name to Seagull, but that’s what Barbara Hershey did. If truth be told, Hershey is not her real name either – she was born Barbara Lynn Herzstein, fittingly, in Hollywood. Herzstein was painfully shy growing up — fellow students thought she was deaf at one point. But a drama teacher took Hershey under her wing – the youngster had always dreamed of becoming an actress. She landed her first acting role on the TV show “Gidget” while she was still in high school. The show’s star, Sally Field, encouraged the youngster, who changed her name to sound less ethnic. More TV roles followed, and she made her big screen debut in With Six You Get Eggroll starring Doris Day. Hershey became notorious for a
long fling with David Carradine of “Kung Fu” fame. The pair lived a hippie-like existence, in a shack with no running water, grew their hair long, and had a son, Free. Hershey worked sparingly while raising the youngster; the relationship with Carradine fell apart by 1974. Some critics dismissed Hershey as a novelty, but others saw in her a brilliant actress who only needed the right role. One of her biggest boosters was the legendary producer Martin Scorsese. Hershey returned to acting full time with a vengeance, landing four consecutive career-making roles in the movies The Right Stuff, The Natural, Hannah And Her Sisters, and Hoosiers. She has been working steadily ever since, most notably in the Oscar winning Black Swan. Hershey has won an Emmy, a Golden Globe, a National Film Critics Award, and is an Oscar nominee. Free changed his name to Tom when he turned nine.
At Sag Harbor Frost 2014...
New To Theaters Labor Day (PG-13) This was supposed to be an Oscar vehicle for Kate Winslet and Josh Brolin, but it had to be re-tooled and missed the deadline. Still, the story, about a boy and his mother who take in a stranger, tugs on the emotional heartstrings and the actors perform admirably. In the end, though, writer/director Jason Reitman (Up In The Air, Juno) dials up the sappiness to overdose level.
Coming Soon Robocop (PG-13) Yes, again. No
New On DVD Enough Said The recently deceased James Gandolfini of “Sopranos” fame is indeed brilliant in this sweet romantic comedy costarring Julia Louis-Dreyfus. In the end, though, the film hinges on the ability of the viewer to buy in to the romance. Unfortunately, the slovenly, unkempt Gandolfini simply cannot sell the part. Louis-Dreyfus deserved better.

Roasted Eggplant And Chick Pea Spread With Rosemary Flatbread Ingredients (serves 4) 2 large eggplant 1 10 oz can of chick peas (rinsed & strained) 2 heads of garlic 3 sprigs of rosemary 1/2 c all purpose flour 1/2 c durum flour 1/2 c cold water 1/4 c canola oil 1/4 c olive oil salt and pepper to taste
Method Pre-heat your oven to 400 degrees. Wrap each head of garlic in aluminum foil and add a tbsp
of oil. Roast in the oven with the eggplant for 60 minutes. While this is happening, chop the rosemary and mix together the flour, water, rosemary, salt and pepper until you have achieved a ball of dough. Set aside until you are ready to cook the flat breads. When the garlic and eggplant are done remove them from the oven and place the eggplant in a mixing bowl. Cover the eggplant in plastic wrap and allow it to steam in the bowl for 10 minutes. and pepper. When the eggplant are cool, peel away the skins and add the eggplant to the food processor with 1/4 cup of extra virgin olive oil. Pulse to a smooth consistency. Heat a metal sheet tray or a pizza stone in your 400-degree oven. Set up an area to dust with all-purpose
flour to roll the flat bread. Roll out several thin sheets of dough at a time and place them on the hot sheet tray or pizza stone. Allow them to cook for five minutes or until they are brown. When the flat bread is cool brush them with olive oil and break them into large pieces. Serve along side your eggplant dip.

Russian Imperial Stout Once again, the brewers at the Southampton Publick House have opened the vaults and will be releasing very limited amounts of some highly special beers. This year’s roster of releases include the 2014 Russian Imperial Stout, Southampton Scotch and Southampton Double Ice Bock 2014. A release party will be held on Saturday at 11 AM. In an effort to not have people stand outside in the cold for hours on end, Southampton Publick House will once again hand out numbered, order sheets with the current offerings for the day. These sheets will be available at the front of the brewery at 9 AM and ask that people pick them up as soon as they are made available. Additionally, the SPH ask that everyone line up, in numbered order, prior to the brewery opening up at 11 AM. Weekend Brunch and Lunch will be served from 11 AM to 3 PM. Commemorative glassware will be available.

Many restaurants reported midweek numbers to be up over 50 to 200-percent and some open early just for the week. The campaign also garnered an honorable mention from the MarCom Creative Awards, an international competition recognizing outstanding achievement by marketing and communications professionals. Residents and visitors are given the chance to save while dining out at new restaurants (or old favorites), before the start of “high season.” For participants, this media-able, valuepricing campaign delivers a surge in business and a return on investment as they put their best foot forward to attract new and returning patrons. Hamptons Restaurant Week is presented by Long Island Restaurant and Hospitality Group – the businessto-consumer promotions division of WordHampton Public Relations. Businesses may sign up online to participate. For further information or to view the current list of participants, visit www.hamptonsrestaurantweek. com, call 631-329-2111 or email marketing@hamptonsrestaurantweek. com.
