Last Saturday evening the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead opened its doors and went back in time to the 1930s for its Grand Opening Gala. The historic art deco theater celebrated with a 30's themed cocktail party. Vince Giordano and the Nighthawks Orchestra performed music from the period. Vintage Model A cars lined the front of the theater and classic cigarette girls sold candy cigarettes. Many were dressed from the era, like Dan Egert and Billy Mack, posing in their top hats and tails. Chef Tom Schaudel, pictured with owner Bob Castaldi (center, left), prepared exotic '30's hors d' ouevres. The evening echoed a grand opening as may occured when the theater first opened in 1933.

UN Mission Recital

Last Friday the ribbon cutting ceremony for the Suffolk Theater in Riverhead was held at the landmark Main Street site. Members of the Riverhead Town Board, Riverhead Town Supervisor Sean Walter, Suffolk County Legislators Jay Schneiderman and Al Krupski were in attendance along with many other dignitaries. Suffolk Theater Executive Director Bob Spiotto held up the golden scissors which owners Bob and Dianne Castaldi used to cut the red ribbon as everyone cheered on! Over 100 people came out to support the theater including Miss Long Island 2012, Jessica Ricco. A show about interesting and entertaining topics that everyone can relate to. by Asher Lee

Todays Birthday: Connie Britton, 1967 Connie Britton was best known for her role as Tami Taylor, the coach’s wife in “Friday Night Lights” until last year, when she won the title role in the critically acclaimed “Nashville” TV series. And yes, that’s Britton doing her own singing. Viewers might also recognize her from her stint on “Spin City.” Britton isn’t your typical starlet who grew up dreaming of being on camera. She studied Asian Studies at Dartmouth and spent a year traveling in the Far East. Born and raised in Boston, Britton was bitten by the acting bug in 1989 and moved to New York to study at the Neighborhood Playhouse. She landed a couple of off-Broadway roles and then landed a substantial role in her first feature film, The Brothers McMullen. And yes, she had the Tami Taylor role in the movie version of Friday as well. She will next appear on the big screen in When Angels Sing later this year alongside Harry Connick Jr., Lyle Lovett, Willie Nelson and Kris Kristofferson. ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) Going with the flow is the best choice this week. No pushing or shoving, just hanging out and staying flexible. I know it will be hard, but do give it a try. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Trust your intuition and tune in to the subtle energies this week. Things may seem weird on the outside, but if you pay close attention to your inner world, you will see the path through it all. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Time to blend things together. See if you can combine different skills and talents to create a new thing. Resist the urge to dissect things and see if you can get a sense of the whole, rather than its individual parts. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Creativity is the priority this week. You can make little animals out of paper clips if you want -- just make sure you are doing something creative. Face any big scary energy you run into, even if it’s within yourself.

Janet Russell

LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) No settling. Take a stand this week and hold out for what you want. You know who you are. Be that big, kind, and dynamic self that you are and face those who want you to cave. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) You remember your sense of humor, right? This will be a good week to dust off your humorous side and meet the challenges or any weird stuff with a little humor and a light touch. Don’t hold on too tight. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Change is happening and it is a let go or be dragged kind of time. Change things up, even if it’s just by re-arranging your furniture. Better to repaint a room or some other project, just keep yourself open to the change. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Tune in to your body and allow it to tell you what you need right now. Strange cravings may actually be an indication that you need something

SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Know yourself, know and understand your motives and what propels you. Look a little deeper and see where you excel and also where you may want to make some changes. Also know that you can still learn new things and be open to just that. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) It is all about peace of mind these days. Make that the priority and then do all that you can to find and stay in that peaceful head. You most likely can’t impact the things you are worrying about, so you have to wait – peacefully if possible. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) New ideas are all around you right now. See and feel the germinating ideas. Keep track of them and allow

PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) As you know, this is a magical Universe and you can still trust that. Look toward the synchronicities and allow them to remind you of the magic. Argo Fresh off of winning the Best Picture Oscar, Argo is released on DVD for the few people who haven’t seen it yet. Ben Affleck’s political thriller is a good one indeed. Based in Iran circa 1979, it’s about six Americans hiding out during the hostage siege, and a plot hatched to make a fictitious movie to free them. Hey -- Hollywood loves films about the industry. Affleck directs and stars; John Goodman (“Roseanne”) is excellent. Alan Arkin, Tate Donavan, and Taylor Schilling co-star. A must see film.
