CHARITY Come to the “Spring Fling” at the Southampton Animal Shelter Foundation on Saturday. Pack up the kids and bring them out to enjoy a fabulous afternoon from 1:30 to 4:30 PM. The Hampton Bays Action Science Club will sponsor a “Spring Car Wash.” There will be face painting, a bake sale and a fabulous display of custom made bird houses by Larry O’Toole, and a flea market sale from the Jobs Lane, Southampton thrift shop. Canio’s Books in Sag Harbor hosts a reading from Long Island Noir published by Akashic Books with editor Kaylie Jones and contributors Saturday at 5 PM. Long Island Noir is an anthology of stories that covers Long Island’s extremes, from the very rich to the very poor, and all the darkness in between. Joining Kaylie Jones will be contributors Jane Ciabbattari, Jules Feiffer, and Sheila Kohler.

FILM The Parrish Art Museum in Southampton presents a screening of The Cool School: How LA Learned to Love Modern Art directed by Morgan Neville and narrated by Jeff Bridges Thursday at 7:30 PM. For ore info visit www.parrishart.org.

The first East End Cash Mob will meet this Sunday at 3 PM in Sag Harbor village at the windmill on Long Wharf. Cash Mob supports local, independently owned businesses with an infusion of cash and community. Community members are invited to bring $20 to spend at a local business (announced on Sunday) over a two hour period. Following the event, all mobbers are invited to attend a post-mob celebration at Muse Restaurant. Costumes and signs showing Cash Mob spirit are encouraged. The mobber who shows the most community spirit will win a gift certificate for two for dinner at Muse. For more info visit www.facebook.com/cashmobeastend.
