New To Theaters Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation (PG-13) Yes, another one, and they will just keep making them until the public stops buying tickets. Based on the buzz for this one, number five, that won’t be anytime soon. Tom Cruise, still looking like he can do his own stunts. Ving Rhames and Jeremy Renner are back. Look for Amagansett’s own Alec Baldwin. Coming Soon Listen To Me Marlon (NR) Marlon Brando as we’ve never seen – from beyond the grave. It turns out the great actor left behind a significant amount of visual material revealing many facets of his life he kept hidden from the pubic. Steven Riley directs, and does a good job keeping things rolling. Still, you have to care about Brando a lot to sit through 102 minutes of him. New On DVD What We Do In The Shadows An over-the-top mockumentary about four vampires, all roomates, finding it hard going in the non-fangster world. Did we say over-the-top? Make that “Way The Hell Out There!” The product of the twisted minds of Taika Waititi and Jemaine Clement, who wrote, directed, and star. A cult masterpiece. Now Playing Southpaw (R) Another boxing mover, this one with Jake Gyllenhaal.

You k now the drill – he’s the champ with the glamorous wife and a bunch of money, he loses everything, and he has to rebuild his career from the bottom. Forest Whitaker co-stars. Irrational Man (R) Ok, we’ll just come right out and say it – we hate Joaquin Phoenix and every movie he’s ever been in. On the other hand, we are unabashed fans of Woody Allen and worship the master. But our unwavering hatred for all things Phoenix is so overwhelming that it trumps Woody and his latest movie. Unfortunately for the Woodman, critics agree – it’s a bomb. Trainwreck (R) America’s hottest young comedian, Amy Schumer, gets her star vehicle courtesy of producer Judd Apatow and with SNL alumni Colin Quinn and Bill Hader in tow. Schumer wrote the script and has given the cast enough one-liners to fill a “Comedy Central” marathon. It’s a hit. Mr. Holmes (PG-13) Ian McKellen (Lord Of The Rings) gets another shot at the Oscar in this tender portrayal of the aging detective circa 1947 who grapples with nuclear bombs and old age. Bill Condon (Gods And Monsters) directs with a deft hand. Laura Linney delivers a brilliant turn. Sherlock Holmes as we’ve never seen him before. Unfortunately, the mystery inherent in most of the others is lacking here.

Benito Mussolini, 1883

The Law Office of William D. Shapiro (631) 899-3187 • Will@WDSesq.com 2411 Main Street, Bridgehampton Legal Services With Pride, Professionalism & Integrity

Mussolini swept into power in Italy promising reform, but he quickly turned into a cruel but powerful dictator. Born in a small village during the Fascist era, the young Benito was heavily influenced politically by his father, who was a Socialist. When he was only 19, a stirring pro-Socialism speech in the Village Square stamped him as a young leader to be reckoned with. Mussolini moved to Switzerland rather than do a required stint in the Italian military and he studied the writing of Nietzsche. He returned to Italy, served two years in the Army and began writing extensively. By 1910 he was considered one of Italy’s most prominent Socialists. World War I changed the course of history for many of the European countries but none more than Italy. The Italian Socialist Party ousted Mussolini because, unlike the other party leaders, he favored intervention – he believed fighting against Austria-Hungary and the central European traditionalists would encourage political uprising throughout the region. Gradually, though, Mussolini’s vision included not an army of socialists fighting in other countries, but a new political party – Fascisti – with a goal of revolution: to take control of Italy. In 1922 30,000 Blackshirts (fascists) marched on Rome demanding a new government. King Victor Emmanuel III appointed Mussolini to lead a new regime, believing he had control of the military. Within three years he turned the country into a dictatorship. Italy had designs on Africa, and in 1934 he aligned himself with Hitler, who had similar goals. The following year Italy invaded Ethiopia and within a few years became engulfed in World War II. Italian armies struggled in Africa, suffering several stinging defeats. Public outcry against Mussolini’s policies began to intensify at home. When the Allies invaded Italy in 1943, there was open hostility toward Mussolini, even among party leaders he appointed. In 1945 he was caught, with his mistress and about a dozen party loyalists, trying to flee Italy. He and others were executed, their bodies hung on meat hooks and left to rot in the public square in Milan as spectators pelted them with rocks.
