and check the details. Don’t worry, the energy will begin to move forward again, just take a breath.
by Asher Lee
Today’s Birthday: Chris Farley, 1964
ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) This is a week where you can allow your leadership skills to shine. You are strong and direct with those around you, just do your best to avoid being tactless and a little too blunt. Finish all that needs to be finished remembering that this is a healing time. Powerful and healing. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Anyone who is trying to hold you down or restrict you in any way is going to make you crazy this week. Freedom and rebellion is the energy of this week. Do your best to use this energy well; just don’t burn any bridges, the energy is moving away and next week you may feel differently. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) This may be an amazing week. You have a great deal of energy at your disposal; give special attention to your hunches and intuition. This is a profoundly healing time, so use your considerable communication skills and stand strong regardless of what goes on.
Though Chris Farley was grossly overweight, the “Saturday Night Live” star was amazingly light on his feet. Whether trying out for the Chippendales with Patrick Swayze or as an Olympic figure skater in another SNL skit, Farley could pull it off. Farley, an avid Catholic, was raised in Madison, Wisconsin, went to Catholic High School and graduated from Marquette University with a degree in communications. He was a born comedian – he idolized John Belushi – and like his idol joined Chicago’s Second City Theatre troupe. Like Belushi, Farley was spotted by SNL creator Lorne Michaels and signed on for the show in 1990 with Chris Rock. He became close with David Spade and the pair went on to make several movies together. Farley was a prankster on and off the set, and was eventually let go by SNL in 1995, but not before he attracted a healthy cult following. Movies like Tommy Boy and Black Sheep, both with Spade, were box office hits and Beverly Hills Ninja was a smash. Farley’s future seemed bright -- he was set to be the voice of Shrek – but his drug use, always prevalent, was intensifying. Soon, friends starting noticing the damage – flushed face, heavy perspiration, shortness of breath. Always heavy, his weight was soon out-of-control. Farley sought help, not once, but as many as 17 different times. On December 18, 1997 Farley’s younger brother found the comedian dead in his own apartment. An autopsy revealed he had died of an overdose of heroin and cocaine, like his idol Belushi had done in 1982. Farley was only 33 – the same age Belushi was when he died.
CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Not a time to be settling for less than what you want. You have real, dynamic energy this week, so do your best to take a stand when it is necessary. Be bold and direct; just don’t run with scissors or drive while angry. The energy is too big for that. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Can you feel it? It is time for you to move in to the new and different. Change is necessary now and exposing yourself to new things or changing up your routines are all necessary so you can move out of your comfort zone and in to the life you really want. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Big energy this week and do your best not to judge others for their weird or over the top energy this week. You have the power this week to be the force for healing in most situations, yet it will require not judging. You may be the one who wants to make your energy big and over the top. Roar if you need to roar! LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) You may have made strides to move in the direction you want in previous weeks, yet now there is a little bit of a delay and that is okay. Use the delay time to tighten up your objectives
SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) How you communicate this week is more important that what you actually say. Your energy is very big this week and others are inclined to hear you through a megaphone, so make sure you choose your words and your style of expression very carefully. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Do NOT give your power away to someone else this week. This is not the time to diminish yourself in any way. This is the time for you to stand boldly in who you are and allow yourself to be as big as you need to be. Take your power back from others and trust your direct experience of something. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) This is the week - the week to bring things together, gather all the pieces of what has been going on and bring it all into a cohesive whole. The word is “synthesize.” Look it up. Be creative and dynamic and refrain from picking things into little pieces, bring things and people together instead. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19)

Look around – are there things you should be having real joy in your heart about because those things exist right now? Now take a look and see where you are denying yourself the joy and happiness because you’re focused on something other than all you have to be grateful for. Shake it off and do the happy dance! PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) This is a time for you to allow your heart to sing. If it isn’t singing, go and take a long bath or do something else nurturing and allow yourself to be filled back up emotionally. The world has realigned itself with your energy in the past week, so allow all this energy to wash over you and cleanse and heal the old wounds. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday. Asher Lee is a professional Astrologer and Tarot reader. GAME DORK
by doug elfman
How Many ‘Final’ Fantasies Can There Be? The genre that “Final Fantasy XIII-2” falls into is a mouthful: It’s a cinematic, sci-fi, fantasy, real-time, turn-based, action-role playing game. Wait, let’s make this simple. You portray two heroes, Serah and Noel. They live on a pretty planet with beaches and forests. Three years in the past, Serah lived in a city that floated over the planet. But a bad guy destroyed the mechanism that allowed the city to float. So Serah’s sister Lightning dispatched that bad guy. She also may have inserted her soul into a magic brace that cradles the floating city and keeps it from falling. But now, a meteorite is tossing monsters onto the planet, and these monsters want to kill everyone. This sequel begins with Serah pining for her sister. The warrior Noel shows up out of nowhere. And Serah and Noel begin a long quest to kill monsters and find Lightning. It’s imperative for that plot to be
compelling, because the game is three things: Watching dialogue-heavy narrative scenes, slaying monsters and earning points to upgrade your magic and combat skills. “Final Fantasy XIII-2” is very good at balancing those complex elements. Anime film scenes are beautifully drawn. Storylines are mildly persuasive. I am somewhat addicted to how deeply the game lets us upgrade the heroes’ fighting strength, via hundreds of options. Every few minutes, you earn experience points. Then you pause the game, open a menu, and assign those points to boost your magic, weaponry, and your ability to self-heal during battles. Even cooler: Sometimes after you defeat a monster, you capture it, and it travels with you, fighting your foes at your command. You also upgrade those monsters’ fighting and medic powers in the upgrade menu. This is a huge game. You travel to more than 30 locations using time-

space-rift “gates.” There’s a kind of rewind button if you want a do-over in a location. My main caveat: The action of battling monsters is old-school RPG. You don’t move around and swing swords. Instead, you take your turn by choosing which attack force to throw at a monster. Then the monster takes his turn. Then you take another turn. He takes another turn. And so on. All the while, the otherwise static TV screen fills up with numbers to show you how many hit points you dealt your opponent, and vice versa. This can feel tedious. I have always hated turn-based action RPGs. That mode of action seems decrepit and stuck in 1980 “Dungeons & Dragons” dice games. However, I mostly enjoy it in “Final Fantasy XIII-2,” because battles move
very fast and intuitively; you have many attack options at your disposal; and it seems nifty. We just need a more digestible term for this genre, other than “cinematic, sci-fi, fantasy, real-time, turn-based, action-role playing game.” How about “Your Turn Fantasy?” No, that’s terrible. (“Final Fantasy XIII-2” by Square Enix retails for $60 for PS 3 and Xbox 360 — Plays fun. Looks terrific. Challenging. Rated “T” for drug reference, mild language, mild suggestive themes, simulated gambling and violence. Three and one-half out of four stars.) legendary chariot race. The film earned Oscars for Best Picture, Best Director (William Wyler), Best Actor (Charlton Heston), and Best Supporting Actor for Welsh actor Hugh Griffith, who in an unlikely stroke of casting genius plays an Arab sheik. It remains one of the finest films ever made.
Now Playing The Secret World of Arrietty (G) The latest from Disney Animation is a marvelous little story about a tiny 14-year-old girl, who lives in the recesses of a suburban home unbeknownst to the owners. The little girl makes rare excursions above the floorboards to gather supplies, and on one such foray, a 12 year-old boy discovers her. Her existence, and the existence of all like her, depends on him. Directors Hiromasa Yonebayashi and Gary Rydstrom have made a tender and touching film that will resonate with young and old alike.

In Darkness * (R) You may have to go to the city to catch the latest from the director Agnieszka Holland, but this film is well worth the trip. Based on a true story, In Darkness tells the tale of a sewer worker in Nazioccupied Poland who is paid to hide a group of Jews in labyrinth of the sewer system. It is a story of survival and much more. Don’t miss it.
New On DVD Ben Hur – Yes, the 1959 original that won 11 Oscars has been rereleased and it still packs a wallop. Based on Lew Wallace’s bestselling novel about Jewish prince Judah Ben-Hur who butts heads with his childhood friend Messala, a Roman tribune. A long and winding road – 212 minutes, to be exact – leads to the inevitable and now
Chronicle (PG-13) Twenty-six-yearold Max Landis, the son of director John Landis, penned this over-the-top sci-fi movie about a group of teenagers who acquire superpowers, but it’s the 26 year-old director, Josh Trank who earns the kudos. A cast of unknowns, most notable Dane DeHaan, makes the script believable (more or less) and Trank’s innovations keep serious filmgoers on edge. There’s spills and chills, but the Landis/Trank paring makes them almost endearing. Pop Landis obviously got this film made for little Max, but we’ll be hearing a lot more from young Mr. Trank. Star Wars Episode One – The Phantom Menace (PG-13) George Lucas continues to go back in time as he milks his Star Wars franchise for all it is worth. In this sequel – actually a prequel – Darth Vadar is only nine, for Cripe’s sake. They are all here: Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd), who will later father Luke Skywalker and become known as Darth Vader. Also starring Natalie Portman. It’s fun, it’s magical, it’s in 3-D of course, and they’ll be lunch boxes, book bags, T-shirts, pens, light sabers and so on. The Woman in Black (PG-13) Daniel Radcliffe has chosen this neat little thriller to begin his post Harry Potter career, and it’s a wise choice indeed. Credit the director James Watkins’ deft hand, a taut screenplay, courtesy of Susan Hill and Jane Goldman, and the luminous presence of Oscar nominee Janet McTeer. Contraband (R) Mark Wahlberg is now a full-fledged manly tough guy – hell, he coulda brought down the 9/11 terrorists. And so he gets roles like this, wherein he displays nerves of steel while smuggling contraband in order to save his family. In the end he takes on “a treacherous criminal network of brutal drug lords, cops and hit men before his wife, Kate (Kate Beckinsale), and sons become their target,” according to the press release. Guess who wins.
