To A New Year
Overall, it was a marvelous year. I'd like to take some time to reflect (more like back-track through my Twitter updates and Facebook posts, without the digital archive of my life I’d be lost) on some of the most memorable events that took place. We rang in 2011 at Chelsea Loft in New York City. I was pulled on stage at Girls Night Out the Musical, my first off Broadway debut. Went to Atlantic City for the first time ever, and a second time ever (now I think I’m good for a while). Saw Snooki at a nightclub. Attended runway shows at New York Fashion week and Paris Fashion We e k . M o v e d from East Hampton to Southampton. Traveled to London
and Amsterdam as well as Paris. Hampton Daze hosted Yacht parties on the Hudson and rooftop parties at Skyroom along with release parties at Chelsea Room, Chrystie 141, Sloppy Tuna, Beachhouse, Race Lane, a Halloween ball at Stone Rose, networking parties at Rugosa, and a 90’s Bowling Party. Let's face it in 2011 we attended more parties than the average person attends in a lifetime (it’s all in a day’s work). We n t t o C l u b G e t a w a y i n Connecticut for a weekend with some great friends, and made some new ones. Celebrated summer with many picnics at Coopers Beach

and Agawam Park. Attended my 10-year high school reunion. Discovered airbnb. com. Saw amazing art from Art Hamptons to Ashawagh Hall and ever ywhere in between. Did yoga twice after deciding it was my new life’s passion. Saw Crosby Stills & Nash at East Hampton Studios. Photo bombed Hoda (a personal feat). Hosted the first annual Hampton Daze Art Show where we also debuted our first television show on Hamptons TV (don’t worry, I wont quit my day job and move to Hollywood just yet). Hosted Thanksgiving dinner for 10 family members (I'm such a grown up). Published five issues of Hampton Daze Magazine.
Took a day trip to Foxwoods on the Hampton Jitney. Took a New York City Mob Tour. Drank champagne from a can with a straw (Sofia Blanc De Blancs from Francis Ford Coppola Winery, try it). Bought some of the best costume jewelry

at Parrish Presents. Went to DC for the first time. Was glamoured by Eric Northman from True Blood (Alexander Skarsgård) at the Hamptons International Film Festival. Joined the Hidden Cellar Society at Wolffer Vineyard. Saw Rufus & Martha Wainwright perform at Plant & Sing on Shelter Island. Went to see TRU at Baystreet Theatre, an insightful look into the life of Truman Capote, starring Darrell Hammond. Watched Breakfast at Tiffany's at least ten times. Ended the year with a wonderful group of friends at Seasons of Southampton’s NYE party. Hey, if the world ends in 2012, at least we can say 2011 was quite thrilling. Now for a few resolutions: Continue to travel as much as possible. Go to Vegas and Italy. Publish a book, or two, or three. Complete a clothing line. Clean my room. Do yoga more than twice. Spend as much time with the people I love as humanly possible. Have Hampton Daze 4th of July issue be the same size as the Vogue September Issue (a stretch, I know, but one can dream). www.hamptondaze.com twitter.com/hamptondazemag

Gurney’s Inn in Montauk hosted its 48th annual New Year’s Eve extravaganza, using the final entry in popular movie trilogy as a theme. That meant staff dressed as Dr. Emmett Brown and Marty McFly, as well as cowboys and Indians, and even a smoking DeLorean highlighted an evening filled with fun, music, dancing and incredible food. Coincidentally, Michael J. Fox, the “real” Marty McFly, is a frequent visitor to the Monte family’s inn by the sea.

No violence or anything like that, just don’t be afraid of your dark side and remember to honor the dark side of others. It may also be time to stretch your creative muscles. Make little animals out of paper clips or whatever, just be creative.

GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Creativity abounds, so jump on in. This is your time to be the ‘whole’ of yourself which will include honoring your creative side as well as your rational side. Think about it for a little while, what does it mean to be your WHOLE self, what will that look like? Then be that! CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Stay flexible and you may find you get everything you want. Not the time to dig in your heels, it is the time to go with the flow and see where you end up. Forcing your will upon a situation will most likely result in less than you can have – stay flexible. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) Communication is key, so stay connected to those around you and make sure you are talking and talking!! Magic is in the air for sure and it is aligned with your ability to communicate in magical ways so you can see magical results. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Time to finish up the old stuff, anything that is dangling, now would be the time to finish it up, or throw it away or pass it on. All of the new of this year is born as you complete the old, so get to it. Make a list and check things off as you complete them. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Time for you to stand in your power and not be afraid of taking on more responsibility, or being in charge if circumstance provide the opportunity. You are more powerful than you give yourself credit for and now is the time for you to see it in yourself in the world. Just do it!

SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Trust yourself. You are the only one who knows everything going on within a situation, so you are the best person to be making the choices and decisions in your life. Other people’s opinions and thoughts during this time can simply be a distraction and quite frankly a pain in the butt. So listen to your own counsel and get everyone else out of your head. SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) Authenticity is key this week. Take guilt and duty and responsibility out of the mix and feel what you really want to do, this is your authentic self. This is where it is best to put your energy right now, so trust your authentic voice.

CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Tune in to your intuition, it is very high right now and may give you answers to questions before anyone tells you what is going on. Trust those little voices in your head and if you get the rush to do something go ahead and do it. Listen to your inner voice.
Today’s Birthday: Don Shula When the Green Bay Packers lost their first game of the season Don Shula uncorked a vintage bottle of champagne he had kept on ice all year. So did every living player from the Miami Dolphins 1972 team. That’s because, with Shula as coach, the Dolphins won 14 consecutive games during the regular National Football League season then swept three more playoff games to finish 17-0, the only NFL team ever to accomplish the feat. To say Donald Francis Shula had football in his veins would be an understatement. He played football through his academic years, and lasted seven years in the NFL as a player. But his astute mind grasped the intricacies of the game. In 1958 he became an assistant coach at the University of Virginia at the tender age of 28. He became head coach of the Baltimore Colts in 1963, the youngest NFL head coach in history. The following year he was on the short side of perhaps the most pivotal game in the history of football – the year Joe Namath, the quarterback of the upstart American Football League’s New York Jets guaranteed a victory in Super Bowl III and delivered. The leagues eventually merged. It was one of the few blots on Shula’s record. He coached for 32 years, won a record high 347 games, and suffered through only two losing seasons. He won two Super Bowls, coached in six, and his teams earned seven conference titles. He established the The Don Shula Foundation after his wife died of cancer in 1992 and he has raised millions of dollars since. He already has picked out a rare bottle of champagne that will hopefully be opened sometime next season. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) Everything really is going to be okay. Peace is the goal this week, peace of mind and spirit in particular. Make choices which will enhance your peace of mind and if you choose not to worry, you can have peace right now. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Embrace the new and the different. Move boldly into the new. Re-arrange your furniture or your silverware drawer or something to get you open to the idea of change. If you are open to the changes you will find great joy there – so stay open to change. NOTE: If you were born at the end or beginning of a sign, read the sign before or after your birthday. New on DVD Cowboys And Aliens When a stranger (Daniel Craig) appears in New Mexico circa 1875 the iron-fisted boss man of the territory (Harrison Ford) doesn’t much cotton to him. But when strange things start a–comin’ the locals decide the new guy ain’t half bad. Good thing, too, pardner, ‘cause there be aliens in them-thar hills. That’s right, folks – the kind from outer space. Jon Favreau (Iron Man) gets the unenviable task of directing a heavy-handed script. Olivia Wilde is the requisite eyecandy. It didn’t play well in theaters and it’s pretty bad in the living room, too. In short, it’s a stinker.

IN THE NEWS
The fact that each has already been made into a movie in Sweden did not deter Hollywood specifically SONY, from taking a stab at them and the studio hired the director David Fincher and the latest James Bond, Daniel Craig, to head the project. The key role, though, would go to whoever played Lisbeth Salander, the quirky, troubled girl in question. After a frenzied casting call, with Natalie Portman and Scarlet Johansson vying for the part, the role went to Rooney Mara whose pedigree, believe it or not, is professional football, not acting – her family roots trace to the Pittsburg Steelers and the New York Giants. Rooney doesn’t have much of a resume, but she grabs this film by the throat and throttles it. Fincher, an Academy Award nominee for The Social Network, guides us through an entirely different project, a violent, disturbing mystery that shocks and revolts even though many in this audience have read the book and know what is going to happen. That really doesn’t matter – the film is so powerful, and the acting so taught, that it is impossible to turn away from the action. Craig is perfect as the disgraced investigative journalist hired to solve a family mystery dating back three decades. Christopher Plummer is perfectly cast, as is Robin Wright. As for young Ms. Rooney, if
New Year’s Eve (PG-13) How can a movie with the greatest cast in the history of cinema bomb so badly? Garry Marshall has assembled an allstar cast to romp through Katherine Fugate’s sometimes funny but often mean-spirited script consisting of a dozen vignettes, all occurring on (duh) New Year’s Eve. Halle Berry, DeNiro, Jon Bon Jovi, Jessica Biel, Sarah Jessica Parker are among those who go down with the script. Mission Impossible Ghost Protocol * (PG-13) We know, we know, it’s hard to fathom that Tom Cruise can be such an effective macho guy. In this episode his character, Ethan Hunt, goes undercover after the IMF is shut down. His mission: clear the good name of the agency. Guess what? It rocks, a mesmerizing action ride so intense that it ranks among the year’s best. Don’t miss it. Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy * (R) The remake of John Le Carre’s spy novel – the author co-wrote the script – is a wonderfully directed thriller during which the audience unravels the cluses. Set at the height of the Cold War, Britain’s secret intelligence unit has apparently been compromised by a doubleagent. A disgraced former spy, played by Gary Oldham, is hired to find the mole. Tom Hardy, Colin Firth and John Hurt co-star. Oldham will surely get Oscar support for his remarkable performance, and the film, a legitimate cliffhanger, may earn a nomination as well.

On December 21 Southampton producer Patricia Watt and The Douglas Watt Family Fund for the Performing Arts hosted their annual holiday bash to celebrate the success of the foundation’s dance and movement therapy programs for autistic children. Dance therapy has shown exemplary results for developmentally, emotionally and physically challenged children. The event also kicked off the organization’s two Holiday Online Auctions. Both offering an array of gifts - from exotic travel packages, to artwork, Broadway tickets and holiday gift baskets. Visit www.biddingforgood.com/ theastaireawards.
