Dancing with the East End Stars, a fundraiser benefitting Your Day Away last Friday night filled 230 Elm in Southampton with glamour, grace, and a little bit of the jitters. The Arthur Murray Dance Center in Southampton donated $1500 in private instruction for each participant to prepare for a Showcase Performance.

Terri Kiernan (Town of Southampton), Joe Shaw (Press News Group), Alyssa Giruzzi (The Corcoran Group), and Rosane Cassella-Wilson (Southampton Rotary) were the stalwart volunteers who stepped up -- and out -- to display newfound talent. They raised $4000 before the first strains of music even played.

Pet Hero Awards Kick Off

The Pet Hero Awards Kick Off Party took place this past Saturday night at 230 Elm in Southampton and was presented by the Pet Philanthropy Circle. Hosted by Tracy Collins Antonino and Jill Rappaport. There was live music, food and silent auctions. The award ceremony will take place June 29 where Christie Brinkley will receive the Humanitarian of the Year award. Lou Wegner, Founder of Kids Against Animal Cruelty, will receive his Pet Hero Award along with other winners.

Sunset Over The Harbor “Sunset Over The Harbor,” a fundraiser for the Greater East Hampton Education Foundation, will take place at East Hampton Point on May 3, from 6:30 to 10:30 PM. #COLDWATERSURFERSERIES Take a step into the world of a #coldwatersurfer. Neoteric Fine Art in Amagansett presents James Katsipis’s #COLDWATERSURFERSERIES, a photographic exhibition of an epic winter journey documenting the world of cold water surfing.

Katsipis, a lifelong native of Montauk, has assembled a breathtaking portfolio of images that represent the world of cold-water surfing as seen through his own eyes, both in and out of that extreme element. His hardcore dedication to his craft has earned him an irrefutable place among the sports most respected photographers, faithfully capturing moments that 99.9 percent of the world’s population could never imagine: a view of freezing perfect waves.

See photographs of gigantic winter surf in Ireland, crystalline sub-zero reefscapes, and the equally brave and dedicated surfers who chase these scenarios. Katsipis's local perspective and embedded relationship with Montauk’s local surf scene has produced an intimate portrait of a unique subculture.

And Diane Keaton and Kevin Kline are always good, right? Wrong. This is one of those dog movies where-in the bedraggled animal gets all the good scenes and the human actors come off like plastic people. Today’s Birthday: Kelly Clarkson, 1982 Do you remember who was the winner of the very first “American Idol” back in 2002? Hint: the young gal from Texas has become a huge star.

Kelly Brianne Clarkson, a Fort Worth native, has sold over 23 million albums and 36 million singles since being named “American Idol.”

She’s recorded an astounding 82 Billboard Number One hits.Eleven of her songs have been the top selling single in the world.

RCA signed Clarkson immediately after she won the contest, and struck gold with her very first single, “A Moment Like This” which jumped to the top of the charts within days of its release and became the top selling record of the year.

Clarkson began singing as a young girl when her parents divorced; she later said it was a way to release tension. A visit to a Baptist Church at age eight made Clarkson aware of the soulful sound of the music, and she began listening to the music of Aretha Franklin, Etta James, Tina Tuner, Annie Lennox and Whitney Houston, among others. At the same time, she was drawn to classic rock like Jimi Hendrix and Aerosmith.

Clarkson, a 2013 Grammy winner, is engaged to talent manager Brandon Blackstock. “American Idol” creator Simon Cowell said Clarkson is the best singer that has ever appeared on the show – “by a mile.” Esquire magazine was even more effusive, stating Clarkson has “the best voice in the history of pop music.”

Shrimp And Grits With Andouille Sausage Ingredients (serves 4) 1 lb. of shrimp peeled, cleaned, and meat diced (keep the shells) 1 c stone ground grits 12 oz Andouille sausage (large dice) 1 tbsp tomato paste ½ can crushed tomatoes 2 gallons water 1 bunch of scallion (sliced) 2 shallots minced 1 carrot (rough chop) 2 stalks celery (rough chop) 1 white onion (rough chop) 1 bay leaf ½ bunch of thyme ½ c white cheddar (grated) ½ c aged parmesan (grated) ½ lb. butter ½ c white wine ½ bunch cilantro 1 tbsp olive oil Salt and pepper to taste

Method Begin by bringing one gallon of water to a boil. Add a bit of salt and the minced shallot to the water. Once it begins to boil, use a whisk to stir the water while slowly adding the cup of grits to the boiling water. Once you have added all the grits reduce your heat to a simmer while continuing to stir for another minute or so. Cover the grits and cook over medium low heat for another hour whisking every 10 minutes.

While the grits are slowly cooking, make the shrimp stock for the sauce.

Start by roasting the shrimp shells in a 400- degree oven for 10 minutes.

Fill a small stockpot with the roasted shrimp shells, one gallon of water, the tomato paste, the crushed tomatoes, the carrots, scallions, celery, onion, bay leaf and thyme. Bring that to a boil, then reduce and allow the stock to simmer another hour.

Once the stock is going and you have the grits cooking you can grate your cheeses and dice the sausage and shrimp. When the grits are ready,

you can shut off the heat completely and whisk in the cheese, a 1/4 lb of butter, and any salt and pepper you would like to add. Put a lid on it and set it aside until you are ready to serve.

When the stock is finished, strain it through a fine strainer and set aside.

Next, heat a large saute pan over medium high heat. When the pan is hot, add the olive oil and then begin to crisp the diced andouille. When the sausage has seared and released a bit of fat, deglaze the pan with the white wine. Cook out the alcohol for about 45 seconds, then add the stock and allow the ingredients to simmer together for about 15 minutes. Add a bit of butter until the sauce is thickened to your liking.

Right before serving, add the shrimp and stir them in the sauce for about three minutes, as they will cook fast.

To serve, spoon equal portions of grits into four bowls then ladle sauce over top and garnish with some chopped cilantro.

Alongside signature favorites like the Montauk clam and corn chowder; crispy calamari salad; local catch ceviche; buttermilk fried chicken; Navy burger; and the four-cheese truffled mac will be an assortment of new and inventive items.

Small plate and salad additions include a crabcake with a fennelorange salad and mustard oil; conch fritters with habanero aioli; steamed Bouchot mussels; grilled Caesar with boquerones, manchego and capers; and salmon tartare with red wine mustard and cornichons.

Large plates will now include the clam-bake; lemon-crab spaghetti; lobster salad; and the catch of the day, featuring a filet or whole fish special. Additional seasonal and market-based items will be added in time for the Memorial Day Holiday weekend.

New to the popular cocktail menu will be a focused “G&T” selection featuring four different gin & tonics, including the Sapphire East (pepper & lime zest); Hendrick’s (cucumber); Oxley (grapefruit); and Bombay Sapphire (lemon).

Additional cocktails joining the roster include the Summer Share (whiskey, lime, agave); Painkiller (Bacardi, coconut, pineapple, OJ); and the Dark & Stormy (Bacardi, ginger beer, bitters). Signature cocktails including the Marganegra, the Southie, and Saintgria Rosa will return together with a wide selection of beers including Redhook’s Sixpoint as well as large formats Estrella Damm Inedit, Brooklyn Local #2, and

Broolyn Sorachi Ace. The approachable wine list will be rounded off with some new vintages and new selections for the season, together with an expanded rosé selection including bottles from France’s Côtes de Provence (Breezette, Cep d’Or), Spain’s Rioja (Watts Up Rosé), and Long Island’s North Fork (Lieb Cellars Bridge Lane Rosé).

The brainchild of partners Frank & Kristina Davis, Franklin Ferguson, Leyla Marchetto and Martin Cabrera, Navy Beach splashed on the Montauk restaurant scene in 2010. Navy Beach is a laidback, family-friendly waterfront restaurant offering a memorable dining experience for the whole family in a beach setting with casual coastal cuisine and the best sunsets in the Hamptons.

“Hamptons Restaurant Week has become a great way to offer locals affordable fun while at the same time attracting new visitors to the East End and giving them an opportunity to sample the best of what The Hamptons has to offer,” states Steve Haweeli of WordHampton PR. The campaign also donated $500 to Project Most, a local organization committed to building on the strengths of children by providing students a range of academic support, enrichment activities, and a positive social environment everyday after school.
