July 16-22 Read your rising sign if you know it. Aries (March 21-April 22) – The week begins with the Moon in your sign. Expect to wakeup tomorrow morning raring for action; Friday night and Saturday be careful as both the Sun and Moon connect with your ruler Mars. Acting impulsively, quarrelling, feeling competitive, a demanding physical regime, or getting things done are all possible now. Look for Mars in the southwest evening sky now passing to the left of brilliant Spica and towards Saturn. You will be called upon to put your recently-acquired heightened sense of justice to greater use as the summer progresses. Taurus (April 22-May 21) – Early Friday morning your ruler Venus changes signs and moves from Gemini into Cancer. Your energies will shift from a more communicative, physically active, selling and conversing mode of the last month, to one concerned with connecting with the warm feelings for home and family. It would be a great weekend to have a block or neighborhood party, as celebratory feelings run high. Indulge them all by cooking a special meal. You especially love the creature comforts of food. Gemini (May 21-June 21) – Your ruler Mercury connects with the mystical planet Neptune early Saturday morning. This might have made your dreams very vivid or will color the day with visions and fantasies. The Moon enters your sign around noon on Monday, sparking your mental activity. Thoughts are easily expressed. Just make sure that day and the next that your mind does not go towards being suspicious and seeing evil where there isn’t any. Your mental perception is razor sharp these days. Cancer (June 21-August 20) – You are winding down the annual month of maximum selfinterest now. What new aspect of personal identity have you managed to portray as your own? What feelings have you allowed to escape your hard shell and express? Venus, the planet of love, affection and valuing, has entered your sign now for a month’s stay, joining Mercury. Love and nurture yourself, re- parent yourself, enjoy your ever-present mood swings, your home, even your stomach aches. Hold a baby, a pet, listen to music, be by the water -- anything that raises feelings to the surface. Learn to love feelings. Leo (August 20-Sept. 21) – This is it, the time you have been waiting for. Jupiter entered Leo at 6:31 AM this morning until August 2015. Jupiter in your sign will demand you to expand, be generous, go for your ultimate success, take a leap of faith, check off items on your “wish list.” Of course, the downside can be weight gain, over confidence that leads to risk taking, religious fanaticism, self aggrandizement and an over the top sense of self importance. Leo likes to have fun and party, enjoys children and all creative acts, the theater, speculation, games, sports. Looking back to August 2002 through August 2003, the last time Jupiter was in your sign, you will be able to sense a theme that will repeat this year. Libra (Sept. 21-Oct. 22) – Events at the beginning of the week could be volatile, as in a need to defend your turf. This week also marks a turning point in the eclipse season, triggering what started at the lunar eclipse last Oct 18th, and/or April 15th this year. If this point touches anything in your chart (which you will know if you can recall events around either of those dates) your life will change, as the Sun at the end

of Libra squares that Mars in Libra, which we have been talking about for months. Mars has been in your sign for seven months instead of the usual seven weeks, igniting all kinds of relationships, hopefully bringing balance and fairness; soon to end. There is a solution in front of you. Scorpio (Oct. 22-Nov. 20) – Hopefully you have stabilized your joint finances this past year and are on the road to recovery. Saturn moving ahead on the 20th will give you the green light to proceed forward. You will see the results of your winter’s inner personal work on identifying more clearly who you really are, manifest in the outer world. Jupiter has changed signs now and having moved into Leo and your 10th house of career opportunities for a year, should give your career, status and reputation a clear boost. No need to wait for another person to act. You have the authority. Sagittarius (Nov. 20-Dec. 21) – Jupiter, your ruler, has changed signs now and moved from the place of increased unearned income and joint finances to the area of life which concerns your relationship to the divine, the meaning of life, your educational goals, travel plans, higher education, morals, ethics, and the law. You will expand and grow in one or more of those areas this year (look back to Aug 2002-3 for ideas how this will happen again). Leo is a fire sign as are you, so let your enthusiasm and zest for life shine forth and inspire others. Capricorn (Dec 21. Jan 20.) – You ruler Saturn is finally on the starting line ready to move ahead. You have been in retrograde motion since the beginning of March, a normal yearly pattern. If things have been in a stuck mode since then, you can now begin to win the race with the hare. Do not expect the fast pace to begin at once, but rather expect this week to have to make some quirky adjustments. The emphasis is on stability and persistence in emotional bonds rather than going it alone. You might attract an interesting homebody this week. Aquarius (Jan. 20-Feb. 20) – Both your rulers are changing directions this week. Saturn is moving forward and Uranus backwards (not really but from the earth’s perception they are changing their orientation to the Sun). Any revolutionary zest has to be turned inward, rather than externally manifested. As a result of the inner structure building you have been doing over these last few months, your outer reality will change now. The Sun moves into Leo, your opposite sign, this week as well, so let your partner shine. Pisces (Feb. 20-Mar. 21) – If better working conditions are your number one priority, you are fortunate this week as Jupiter, your ruler and the planet of luck, has moved into Leo and your 6th house of work, health and service, expanding the opportunities in those areas for a year. A new exercise regime or diet, shorter hours with more money, more congeniality with co-workers, a new and better job description are some of the benefits to look for. These things happen, but sometimes we do not notice that it is the revolution of the planets in their orbits around the Sun, that dictates the timing. Reel Deal

By Miles X. Logan

Coming Soon S e x Ta p e ( R ) J a k e K a s d a n (Lawrence’s son), a member of the lucky sperm club, weighs in with the tale of a married couple who make a sex tape to rekindle their passion. You guessed it, the tape goes viral and the two kids are really embarrassed. Cameron Diaz and Jason Segal do their best with what they have, and Diaz looks absolutely fabulous. Rob Lowe, Rob Corddry, and Jack Black mine for laughs with some success.

designer gore, but not quite as cultish as the original. Eva Green adds some depth: that is, she’s isn’t a muscle bound scantily-clad male slicing and dicing the living crap of similarly-attired men. Add a star if severed limbs turn you on. Now Playing Boyhood (R) Richard Linklater’s (Before Midnight) lens focuses on a boy growing up — literally. Young Ellar Coltrane ages before our eyes, providing an intimate look at the childhood experience. Linklater’s muse Ethan Hawke plays the father and Patricia Arquette is the mother. It’s an ambitious miss – the film, nearly three hours long, rambles and the audience ultimately wishes the kid would grow up already. Hercules (NR) Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is a natural for the title role in this big budget retro-fantasy. The director Brett Ratner (Rush Hour 2,3) sticks to the traditional plot and has wisely employed a slew of Hollywood’s best actors to bring the story to live. This is a probable summer smash. New To Theaters Dawn of The Planet Of the Apes (PG13) Another One? Really? Really. And it isn’t half bad. In this installment the apes move to DUMBO, open up a latte bar, become metrosexuals and get in a bidding frenzy over a glass-filled one bedroom overlooking the river. Caesar and Daisy argue over a summer share house and Oscar opens an art gallery. Gary Oldman as the hairdresser; Keri Russell plays the Pilates instructor. Naw, we’re kidding -- it’s really about highly-evolved apes fighting subservient human survivors, but you kind of knew that already, right? New On DVD 300 Rise of an Empire More

Earth To Echo (PG-13) A group of friends whose neighborhood is being torn down is about to be separated forever when they start receiving strange signals on their mobile devices. Further investigation reveals – ta da — a cute little alien who needs help. Anyone thinking ET? Get the little weird-looking thing a freaking bicycle and let’s move on. Snowpiercer (R ) Joon-ho Bong has fashioned an inventive and relevant science fiction film about a project to halt global warming that goes terribly wrong. Chris Evans (The Avengers) and Jamie Bell (King Kong) get the meatiest rolls, but veterans Tilda Swinton, John Hurt, Ed Harris, and Octavia Spencer add gravitas and keep it somewhat believable. It’s a bit messy, but there is enough here to merit a viewing.

Bess Myerson, 1924 Bess Myerson was a national celebrity but held a special place in the hearts of New Yorkers, especially Bronx natives. Myerson was an ambitious youngster, drawn to dance and music. A beautiful statuesque brunette with long legs and a stunning figure, she entered the Miss New York contest on a lark, hoping to buy a piano should she win the cash prize for finishing first. She did, then went on to shock the nation by becoming Miss America 1945, the first Jewish woman ever to wear the crown. Despite her popularity Myerson felt the sting of prejudice. She refused to change her name to appease would-be sponsors and advertisers, and would later become an avid civil-rights crusader. She was associated many years with the Anti-Defamation league. After graduating from Hunter College with a degree in Music, Myerson found work in a new medium, television. Her affable style and wit made her a natural for talk shows, and she joined the panel of “The Name’s The Same” and then starred on the syndicated series “I’ve Got A Secret” for 10 years until 1967. A lifelong native of the big city, Myerson became involved in politics during the regime of Mayor John Lindsay, eventually becoming the Commissioner of Consumer Affairs. In the seventies she served as Commissioner of Cultural Affairs under Mayor Ed Koch. Myerson was often seen socially with Koch. Tongues wagged that she served as the mayor’s “beard” because Koch, a lifelong bachelor, was often assumed to be gay, although he never said as much. Myerson ran in a primary in 1980 in hopes of becoming the Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate and was narrowly defeated. The 1980s were marred by “The Bess Mess” -- Myerson was accused of bribing a judge to help her boyfriend at the time, Andrew Capasso, beat a tax fraud charge. She quit her job with the city, but was eventually acquitted. She was also arrested for shoplifting in 1988, though Myerson said she merely forgot to pay for the items. Myerson is said to be living in Santa Monica but reportedly suffers from dementia.

on the long wharf in sag harbor overlooking the beautiful harbor

By Jessica Mackin On Saturday I visited Navy Beach in Montauk for a late lunch. Navy Beach happens to be one of my favorite places in Montauk and as usual it was a pleasure dining at the 200-foot private beach in Montauk. Navy Beach is the brainchild of partners Frank & Kristina Davis, Franklin Ferguson, Leyla Marchetto and Martin Cabrera and splashed on the Montauk restaurant scene in 2010. It is a laid-back, familyfriendly waterfront restaurant offering a memorable dining experience in a beach setting with coastal food and one of the best sunset views. The kitchen delivers a high quality fish centric menu with an emphasis on sustainable seafood and local seasonal produce. We tried the tuna tataki salad that includes red quinoa, green beans,

roasted red pepper and wasabi soy vinaigrette, which was the perfect dish to go along with the beautiful setting. The chilled shrimp was also a fantastic choice. On July 26 and July 27 Navy Beach will host its annual American Summer Riviera themed beach and boat weekend. Come by boat (NOS Station 8510560, 41° 02’ 45.11” N, 71° 57’ 44.8”W) or by land and enjoy two afternoons of special guest DJ Madrid starting at 2 PM. Reggae favorite Twister will play a special “Soul Train Saturday” themed performance on Saturday night, and a One Love Sunday reggae sunset set starting at 5 PM on Sunday. Photographer Nate Best will be on site both afternoons capturing the scene and festivities. The restaurant will feature a special Chandon American Summer pairing menu all weekend. By Jessica Mackin Shuko Beach, a pop-up restaurant, opened just a few weeks ago in the Highway Diner & Bar space in East Hampton. The restaurant provides a fresh and relaxed dining experience in the Hamptons and will be open through Labor Day. Chefs Nick Kim and Jimmy Lau were inspired by their travels through Japan after leaving NYC’s Neta and came up with a new sushi concept for the summer before opening their kaiseki-sushi restaurant Shuko NYC in the fall. Shuko Beach features a menu composed of omakase favorites, for those who want to leave the selection to the chef, along with small and large plates from the kitchen, all with a nod to Long Island’s summer bounty. On Sunday night we stopped by the bustling restaurant. We decided to order a selection of starters, small plates, sashimi and sushi. The cocktail menu was ver y impressive. We tried the "kick in the teeth" which consists of Yamazaki 12 year, double citrus, ginger and Angostura bitters, and the "get your kimono" made with Bison grass vodka, citrus, canton, lemongrass, and apple bitters. The summer green salad with lemon vinaigrette and sesame tempura flakes was a delightful starter that was light and refreshing. The grilled scallop served on the shell with foie gras and truffle butter was

exquisite. Another highlight was the Long Island fluke prepared with almonds, pickled tomatoes and ginger oil. The dish was a nice balance of summer flavors and delicate citrus notes. The toro (tuna belly) and kanpachi (wild yellowtail) sashimi were both delish and the finest of fish. The sweet potato vegetable roll with shiso was a pleasant vegetarian option. The menu at Shuko includes a variety of vegetable rolls to choose from as well. The desser ts included the chocolate mochi with peanut butter ice cream and a grapefruit granite with shiso and citrus zest. Prices range from $6 for sake sashimi to $250 for an omakase tasting menu. The ingredients all are top of the line and these talented chefs showcase a variety of culinary excellence. When you visit look out for a specialty dish of whole roasted fish and local vegetables served family-style. The restaurant is open for lunch and dinner every day and also offers takeout.
