Countess LuAnn de Lesseps

LuAnn with Noel and Aston Countess LuAnn de Lesseps is on the cover of the July 2013 Hampton Daze Magazine. LuAnn has been a star of Bravo TV’s hit series “The Real Housewives of New York City” since its first season, six years ago. Hampton Daze caught up with the Countess at her Bridgehampton home where she lives with her children, Noel and Victoria, and their pup, Aston. Noel designs skateboards and Victoria is an artist. LuAnn’s boyfriend Jacques Azoulay is in the wine business. Over the past few years Countess LuAnn has released singles and music videos for her songs “Money Can’t Buy You Class” and “Chic C’est La Vie” on Ultra Records and penned the etiquette book Class with the Countess. She has also been a strong supporter of foundations such as The American Cancer Society, GLAAD, ACE’s SoHo Partnership, and has been photographed for California’s NOH8 Campagne. LuAnn has begun filming season six of RHONY, set to premier this fall. She has also recently launched a chic, affordable tabletop line named “The Countess Collection.” For more info visit www.countessluann.com.

Describe your perfect Hamptons summer day: A run on the beach, swim in the ocean and a beautiful salad niçoise. Having lunch at home and hanging

out by the pool. That’s the perfect Hamptons day. And playing tennis.

Favorite activities to do with your family: Tennis, going to the beach, and cooking. Favorite shopping: Maison 24 for the home, Jogo in Bridgehampton, C Wonder, Catherine Malandrino, and the farm stands. Favorite outdoor activities: Run, play tennis, swim and I play ping-pong with the kids. Jacques and myself vs. Noel and Victoria. Best “Real Housewives of New York City” Moment: Morocco was fabulous. That, and singing with Natalie Cole, that was pretty awesome. Worst “Real Housewives of New York City” Moment: Almost getting thrown off a camel. They’re supposed to be really calm and this one just freaked out. I was lucky. They’re very high off the ground. It’s like falling from a second floor. Tell us about the Countess Collection outdoor dinnerware set: This is the first of my dinnerware collection. I started with melamine because I love melamine for summer,

I decided the first thing I would do is design a new melamine collection. It’s indoors and outdoors. The collection is about my love for entertaining and my passion for travel. This collection is called the “Amalfi Coast” with the coral, from my days when I lived in Europe. What I love about this is that it’s basically unbreakable. It’s chic and affordable. We are also doing porcelain and stoneware as well. This is the first in the collection.

What are you looking forward to most, filming the upcoming season of RHONY? I never know where we’re going to go. I always look forward to the trips we do. Making new friends. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Time for things to come together. All the dangling parts may find their way into a cohesive whole this week and you may just have to stand there in astonishment. Don’t over analyze things or pick them apart too much. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Good time to keep on talking and find a way to say what you need to say and be heard. See if you need to alter the way you present things so that others really understand where you are coming from. Be sure to take the edge off what you are saying. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) Make sure you are acting from the things you believe in. Resist the urge to match what others do; rather stand true to your principles. Just because someone else acts badly, it doesn’t mean you should return things in kind - if it’s not who you are. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) There is all this potential for your mind to get

by Asher Lee ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) You may really need to take a break this week and just chill out for a little while. Social obligations and all the things you feel you have to do may be a bit too much. Slow down, just for a bit, and take a break.

off track and fall into the fear, the big fear ditch. It isn’t in your best interest to judge the current situation by past experience. You are not the same person, so why expect the worst? VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) No gossiping. If the person isn’t in the room, you should not be talking about them. The energy is such that if you go off about someone, it will hurt the outcome you want to achieve. Really, if you have a problem with someone, speak directly with them or not at all. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) Hang out with an Aries and take a break. Time for some nurturing and making time to just BE. You will always have many social opportunities; sometimes you have to say no. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Great week to focus on your work and your plan for success. You may also want to define what success really means for you. If you have all the money in the world, but aren’t doing things you love with those you love, what is the point? SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) You can trust yourself and it may be necessary right now to trust yourself over what other people are saying you should or shouldn’t be doing. You are the only one that knows everything going on, so you need to make the choices. Trust yourself. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) Magic is in the air this week. Pay attention. Don’t be distracted by what may appear to be, rather trust that the Universe has some kind of plan in mind. Your job is to trust the magic and look for it so you can see when the Universe wants you to act. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) Make sure you are keeping some

The star of Born On The Fourth of July was actually born a day earlier. Tom Cruise was an unhappy child growing up in Syracuse, the victim of an abusive father who beat him. A devout Catholic, Cruise was bitten by the acting bug while attending grammar school in Canada, where his father had taken a job. He briefly attended seminary school, where he also played football. After landing a small role in Endless Love (1981), Cruise was picked to play a military school student in Taps. Two years later he landed the lead in All The Right Moves, playing a high school football player. He followed that effort with Risky Business, which made him a huge star. He’s been a leading man ever since: Top Gun, in 1986, The Color Of Money, the long awaited sequel to The Hustler, also in 1986 and many more. Off stage, Cruise became the focus of intense media focus because of his fascination with Scientology. Over the years he has risen in stature within the church and it is said he has donated millions of dollars. Cruise has been in three high profile marriages, all to actresses: Mimi Rogers, Nicole Kidman, and most recently Katie Holmes. All three ended in divorce. Cruise has been nominated for three Academy Awards and has won three Golden Globe awards. At the age of 51, Cruise still commands top dollar: his Mission Impossible franchise – four movies and counting – is a huge moneymaker.

kind of balance in your life. Balance great activity with doing nothing. Learn how to do nothing guilt free. It will be all about balancing work and rest, so remember things are in motion even when they appear to be standing still. PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) Focus is everything. This week for sure you will find that what you are focusing on will expand. So, if you are focusing on all the stuff that isn’t working, you will indeed get more of that. Instead, stay focused on all you have to be grateful for and you

Try it. * A Hijacking (R ) Director Tobias Lindholm has fashioned a harrowing tale about a cargo ship kidnapped and held for ransom by Somalian pirates. (Monster’s Ball) takes some chances, and the screenplay strays considerably from the book’s storyline. Still, when you have a zillion dollar budget, you’re going to come up with some interesting special effects, and the sets are magnificent. Typical summer blockbuster fare. Man Of Steel (PG-13) Remember Superman? He’s baaaaa-ack. This time around Henry Cavill plays the title role, but he is really (spoiler alert!) Clark Kent/Superman. It features a formidable cast including Kevin Costner, Michael Shannon, Russell Crowe, and Amy Adams as a bewitching Lois Lane. With its spectacular special effects and absorbing dialogue, this film is destined to become a mega-blockbuster. Enjoy Hollywood at its big ticket best. The Internship (PG-13) Vince Vaughn and Owen Wilson, who bonded in Wedding Crashers, seek to recapture the magic in this intermittently funny effort from Shawn Levy (Date Night). The pair makes loveable buddies, and if you buy in to that, you’ll enjoy this film. Much Ado About Nothing (PG-13) Joss Whedon (Cabin In The Woods) takes on The Bard, giving the classic comedy a contemporary spin. As is always the case, Shakespeare aficionados will make up the core audience and will either love or hate it. Amy Acker and Alexia Denisof star. The Kings Of Summer (R) Three friends decide to live off the land and build a house in the wilderness. The darling of Sundance, the film arrives amid much hype and manages by and large to live up to it. There are some bumps, but it is absorbing and multi-faceted – credit first time director Jordan Vogt-Roberts and screenwriter Chris Galletta. Nick Robinson, Gabriel Basso, and Moises Arias co-star. The Hangover Part III (R) It’s really, really, bad, but you already knew that, didn’t you?

The Newest Wrinkle In Facial Treatments By Kitty Merrill There’s plenty to love about facial treatments at Gurney’s Oceanview Salon in Montauk. The first time I experienced one, I had one foot in 40 and the other on a banana peel. Still, the technician crooned over my “porcelain” skin, declaring, “You have the skin of a 28 year old.” Whether the declaration was sincere or not, the delivery was such that my love affair with Gurney’s spa treatments was born. The treatment rooms -- whether in the Sea Water Spa or the Oceanview Salon – are a fragranced oasis from life’s stress. Attendants and estheticians murmur gently as they apply an array of scented, organic ablutions. They bring you delicious herbal tea. Soft music plays to encourage relaxation. There’s plenty to love about the facials, and there’s also plenty to love about one of their newest treatments, the Organic Microdermabrasion and SmoothSculpt. The word “dermabrasion” calls forth shivers and thoughts of skin being abraded off your face to allow the fresh new skin cells to show through. But the micro treatment isn’t like that at all. It’s a relaxing and renewing experience, typical of all

The Picture of Success Starts Here.

Gurney’s offers. Alba Garcia was my technician and started off by examining my skin. Originally trained in Europe, Garcia has been with Gurney’s for close to 30 years. One of her favorite parts about working at the Montauk locale is Gurney’s willingness to send staff to train in the latest techniques, such as the SmoothSculpt and Organic Microdermabrasion. After the exam, Garcia dubbed my complexion, “sensitive, but tough, with amazing elasticity.” To acknowledge the sensitivity, she used a lavender-based product to begin the cleansing and exfoliation process. Next came a cooling peel-off mask. SmoothSculpt is an advanced aesthetic technology designed to help smooth, contour and tighten skin. Basically, it’s a cupping wand that feels like a little vacuum cleaner suctioning your face. The goal is to stimulate the skin for a smoother, more defined look. Some people use it on areas besides the face, like the décolleté, neck or elbows. The results were fabulous. My skin felt like velvet – so soft I kept going up to people at work commanding, “Feel my face.” Some did, and offered “oohs” and “ahs.” Fine lines – and even those

But here’s the best part: traditional wisdom cautions against facials on the day of a special event. Skin can become overstimulated and even irritated immediately following a traditional facial, so it’s always been suggested that you have a facial a couple of days before a special event and wait for your face to calm down. quality ingredients for anti-aging and protection, like my Anti-Aging Vitamin Infused Moisturizer.” Some of her most popular treatments in addition to laser hair removal are the Fotofacial and the IPL which can incorporate a glycolic peel or microderm for the face, neck and décolleté. “It’s so important to treat your neck and décolleté the same way you treat your face. Even just a mild microderm is enough. You see age in the neck area much quicker than on the face and I cannot stress how important it is to include these areas in every treatment . . . and you can’t just get one treatment and expect lasting results. You need to go for consecutive treatments to really see improvement,” suggests Wisniewski. Using the latest technology in laser treatment skincare, she is able to work on clients during any season of the year, performing therapies on clients of all ages and all ethnicities.

When did you decide you wanted to be an Esthetician and why Medical Esthetics? I wanted to help people that I would see in public who had terrible skin conditions, scarring and antiaging. Southampton Social Club Independent/Jessica Mackin

By Jessica Mackin Southampton Social Club is a Hamptons staple. With renowned Chef Scott Kampf at the helm, not only is SSC a great spot for nightlife, but a perfect location for fine dining in Southampton. Kampf has received the acclaimed Chaine des Rôtisseurs Award of Excellence and Star Chef’s People’s Choice Award. He has also appeared on the Food Network’s “Iron Chef America.” His unique, personal style has been developed by living and traveling abroad in France, Italy and Spain. His personal style is evident in the creative dishes he prepares at SSC. My friend Jennie and I went to dinner at SSC this past week. To start we ordered off the cocktail menu. SSC has fantastic cocktails with top

quality ingredients. I ordered “The Roaring Twenties” cocktail which consists of Belvedere intense vodka, St. Germaine, grapefruit juice, and fresh lime on the rocks. For Jennie, the “Southampton Iced Tea," the bartender's twist on the Long Island iced tea, made with quality ingredients that do not include the hangover. The ingredients are Belvedere lemon tea vodka, fresh lemon, simple syrup, and iced tea on the rocks. Kampf sent us a variety of appetizers to sample. The braised short rib sliders, prepared with a roasted strawberry barbecue sauce, cole slaw on toasted brioche with gherkins, were absolutely delicious. The edamame and chickpea hummus with roasted garlic and citrus with Kalamata olives and hemp flatbread

was tasty, creative, and a great choice for anyone looking for a gluten free menu option. The crispy zucchini chips with garlic aioli were perfectly crisp and perfect to order for a table to share. The sesame encrusted Ahi tuna is a menu favorite, prepared with wake seaweed salad, lotus chips, wasabi caviar and a sweet soy reductions. The Burrata caprese salad was also magnificent. Made with local heirloom tomatoes, fresh basil oil and a balsamic drizzle, we could tell it was made with only the finest ingredients. For our entrees I went with the pan seared striped bass provencal while Jennie decided on the cast iron seared filet mignon. The bass was prepared with local roasted asparagus and organic quinoa. The

filet, made with Bourguignon butter, roasted peanut potatoes, charred baby carrots and a malbec demiglace. We agreed that each bite was better than the last for both of our dishes. For dessert we decided to try the SSC doughnuts. This delicious confection was served with creme anglaise and raspberr y coulis dipping sauces. To top off our dessert, mini raspberr y frozen daiquiris made with Bacardi rum, cointreau and fresh lime. SSC offers a variety of fine dining service options from dinner, and light fare to VIP bottle service and private parties, making SSC the perfect location for any occasion. SSC offers a $35 prix-fixe, which is impressively extensive, offering many menu options. It is available all night on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday and on Fridays before 7:30 PM. Grilled Squid Salad Snowpeas Scallions Pickled Chili Peppers

Ingredients (serves 4) 2 lbs squid (tubes and tentacles washed and cleaned) 1 jalapeno (deseeded and cut into rings) 3 sweet chili peppers (deseeded and cut into rings) 1/2 bunch cilantro (chopped) 1.5 cups snow peas (sliced thin) 1 lemon (juice and zest) 1/2 shallot (minced) 1 cup olive oil 2 tbsp rice wine vinegar

1 tbsp chili sauce 1 tbsp sesame oil 2 scallions (sliced thin) 2 tbsp sherry vinegar 20 oz tatsoi (salad green) 1/2 cup sugar 1/2 cup water 1 carrot (sliced thin and cut lengthwise) 1 tbsp fresh grated ginger salt and pepper to taste

Method Begin by heating up your grill. Brush the squid with olive oil and sprinkle with salt and pepper. Grill for one minute on each side. Remove them from the grill and allow them to cool for 10 minutes while you make your marinade/ dressing. Mix together the rest of the olive oil, lemon juice and zest, sesame oil, chili sauce, shallot, ginger, rice vinegar, and cilantro. Use half of that to marinate the squid and reserve half to dress the salad. While the squid marinates you can bring to a boil the half cup of sugar and half cup of water. When it boils, pour it over the thinly sliced chili's. Allow them to steep in that liquid for 15 minutes. Strain the liquid back in the pot and reduce it over medium heat to a syrup like consistency. When that consistency is achieved, cool the syrup then mix it back into the chili's along with the sherry vinegar. At this point you will cut the marinated squid into rings and toss the squid together in a bowl with the veggies and tatsoi, with some of the dressing not used to marinate the squid. Garnish with scallion and the pickled chilis.

Labor Day weekend. Guests may enjoy the cool, relaxed atmosphere into the early hours while listening to live music, and enjoying light late night fare and specialty cocktails. Chef and owner Noah Schwartz yearned for a late night scene in Greenport where he could go after work to unwind and realized, “I could make that happen.” The new nightlife spot for Greenport comes after an expansion of the restaurant, featuring an open wall and wraparound bar connecting the original dining room and expanded area. The additional square-footage also allowed noah’s to add draft beer from Greenport Brewing Company. For more information, contact noah’s at 631-477-6720 or visit them online at www.chefnoahs.com.
