Every Monday night Georgica hosts a party for revelers who won’t let the weekend end. This time around, it included a birthday party for Augie Teodoro.
Saturday evening, Love Heals, The Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education hosted Let’s Misbehave, its 17th Annual Hamptons event. The sold-out 200 person event held at the Wolffer Estate Vineyard raised over $195,000. Celebrating the glamour of the Roaring 20’s, hosts Nicole Trunfio, Bibhu Mohapatra, Samantha Marcus Yanks, Dini von Mueffling & Ted Sann, Chele Chiavacci & Richard Farley and Howard Horowitz, dined with guests and friends in the vineyard while enjoying fresh summertime cocktails from Patron. In keeping with the evening’s Gatsby theme, after dinner, guests danced the night away to jazz band extraordinaire Art Baron and The Duke’s Men. Artists Writers East End Hospice is a beneficiary of the 65th Annual Artists Writers Softball Game. A Pregame Party will take place on Friday from 6 to 8 PM at LTV Studios in Wainscott. Box Art Auction More than 75 of the finest artists on Long Island’s East End have again created memorable art boxes for an auction benefiting the East End Hospice. The 13th Annual Box Art Auction will take place on September 7 at the Ross School Center for WellBeing on Goodfriend Drive in East Hampton. The silent auction will begin at 4:30 PM with a live auction at 6 PM. All proceeds will benefit East End Hospice, which provides care for terminally ill patients, their families and loved ones living on the North and South Forks of Long Island, including the Eastern Suffolk County townships of Brookhaven. The Box Art Auction is East End Hospice’s only summer event in East Hampton. Admission to the September 7 benefit auction is $75, which includes wine and hors d’oeuvres. The public is invited to a free preview “Meet the Artists” reception at Hoie Hall at St. Luke’s Church in East Hampton (18 James Lane) on August 28 from 5 to 7 PM. See if there are times when you intentionally choose to think the worst of a situation and purposely compromise your happiness because you are afraid if you allow yourself to be happy, then you will be disappointed later on. Don’t rob yourself of the joy of this moment because you are worried about potential disappointment in the next. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Fear is no longer a viable reason to convince yourself you can’t do the things you want to do. Really take a look at how you approach situations and see if you notice how often you cater to your fears and retreat, or believe the worst-case scenario, rather than squelch your fears and trust yourself and the situation. Look at your small fear thoughts as if they are sparks about to ignite something much larger. Put out the sparks. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) You will need to mind your own energy this week. Today’s Birthday: Doc Holliday, 1851 He wasn’t exactly the typical neighborhood dentist. John Henry Holliday was reared in Georgia and lost his mother to tuberculosis when he was only 15. He devoted himself to his studies and at the age of 19 enrolled in dental school and graduated from what is now the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. He opened a practice in Atlanta but learned shortly after that he, too, had the dreaded TB. “Doc” moved to Texas, believing the drier air would help his health. He opened a dentistry practice in Dallas and took to playing cards there. He soon learned he could make more money gambling in the saloons than he could pulling teeth. After a stint in Deadwood Holliday returned to Texas and met Wyatt Earp, the assistant city marshal in Fort Griffin. Earp enjoyed a good game of cards as well and the two forged a friendship that would last a lifetime. Earp moved to Tombstone with his brothers around 1880 and Holliday followed. It was there the infamous Gunfight at OK Corral occurred in December 1881. Later, after two of Earp’s brothers were ambushed, it is said Holliday and Earp set out to exact revenge. Over the next couple years Frank Stillwell, Ike Clanton, “Indian Charlie” Cruz, and Johnny Ringo were all found dead in different locales. Holliday was eventually arrested in Colorado for Ringo’s death but was released on bail with the help of Bat Masterson, a friend of the Earps. Doc sought the recuperative power of the Hot Springs in Glenwood but the fumes made his condition even worse. Now Playing We’re The Millers (R) Wait a minute – could this be a “comedy” starring Jennifer Aniston that doesn’t suck? Yes, it is. Credit Jason Sudeikis, who is irresistibly funny as a small-time pot dealer. When things go horribly awry, he agrees to smuggle drugs – and invents an “instant family” as a cover. That’s where our Jen, a stripper who lives next door, comes in, and yes, she is terrific in the role. It’s the comedy hit of the summer – who knew? Lovelace (R) First of all, how could it be rated R? Deep Throat was a phenomenon when it hit theaters in 1972, a porn movie that was scripted, well made, and of course, extremely graphic. This is the story of its star, ably played by Amanda Seyfried. Peter Sarsgaard is excellent as “the director” who discovered her, and Chris Noth and Sharon Stone both are effective in supporting roles. Linda Susan Boreman Marchiano, the aforementioned porn star, ended up living in Center Moriches and raised a family there. BTW, she died in 2002 and was a crusader against pornography for much of her life. This is, surprisingly, a good film. Yes, it’s a bit over the top, but it’s worth a look. 2 Guns (R) Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington pack the aforementioned heat and do the buddy thing. You’ve seen it all before, but it’s undeniably entertaining. The Spectacular Now (R)* Critics and test audiences are falling in love with this obscure effort by director Michael H. Weber. The tale about two high school sweethearts is engaging, funny, and poignant. Shailene Woodley (“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) steals the show as “the good girl.” Miles Teller holds his own, playing against type as the good looking, popular senior boy. A great supporting cast led by Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”) and Jennifer Jason Leigh adds depth without stepping on the toes of the youngsters. Red 2 (PG-13) The gang from Retired Extremely Dangerous is back for another go after the first film went viral worldwide. Bruce Willis, as Frank Moses, is, well, Bruce Willis. But John Malkovich damn near steals the show again – except of course, for the presence of Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker. Oh yeah, Anthony Hopkins is in it, too. It’s more of the snappy banter and action, but of course, it seems a bit more contrived this time around. It’s still the fun movie of the summer.

Watermelon Gazpacho Ingredients (serves 6) 1/2 large seedless watermelon 1 English cucumber (finely diced) 2 limes (juiced) 1/2 papaya (fine diced) 1/2 honeydew melon (finely diced) 2 tbsp honey 4 plum tomatoes (finely diced) 1/4 c mango juice Method Begin by cutting away the rind from the watermelon. Cut the watermelon into manageable pieces and blend on high until you reach a nice, smooth consistency. Allow the watermelon liquid to sit for three minutes or so and skim off the white foam that rises to the top. Once you have done this you can whisk in the lime juice, mango juice, and honey. All that is left is to make the fine knife cuts on all of the fruits and vegetables and mix them into the base. Pour and enjoy a nice refreshing gazpacho perfect for a summer day.
