Every Monday night Georgica hosts a party for revelers who won’t let the weekend end. This time around, it included a birthday party for Augie Teodoro.

Saturday evening, Love Heals, The Alison Gertz Foundation for AIDS Education hosted Let’s Misbehave, its 17th Annual Hamptons event. Celebrating the glamour of the Roaring 20’s, hosts Nicole Trunfio, Bibhu Mohapatra, Samantha Marcus Yanks, Dini von Mueffling & Ted Sann, Chele Chiavacci & Richard Farley and Howard Horowitz, dined with guests and friends in the vineyard while enjoying fresh summertime cocktails from Patron. In keeping with the evening’s Gatsby theme, after dinner, guests danced the night away to jazz band extraordinaire Art Baron and The Duke’s Men. Fashionable guests included actress and model Kelly Bensimon, news anchors Alina Cho, Gigi Stone and Chris Wragge, Marla Maples and daughter Tiffany Trump, producer Arden Wohl, stylist Amanda Ross, Eric Villency, Jean Shafiroff, fashion designer Susan Beischel, philanthropist Yaz Hernandez, art dealer and producer Edward Tyler Nahem, attorney Richard Farley, Jill Martin and Polina Proshkina, among others. THE INDEPENDENT Q Traveler Watchman

by Asher Lee ARIES (Mar. 20 - Apr. 20) What kind of life do you really want to lead? That is the question. Do you want to lead a big giant life that you will have to work 24/seven to support, or would you prefer a smaller life that is rich within and you won’t have to be crazy to support? This is the time to decide. TAURUS (Apr. 20 - May 21) Pay attention to your thoughts. See if there are times when you intentionally choose to think the worst of a situation and purposely compromise your happiness because you are afraid if you allow yourself to be happy, then you will be disappointed later on. Don’t rob yourself of the joy of this moment because you are worried about potential disappointment in the next. GEMINI (May 21 - June 22) Fear is no longer a viable reason to convince yourself you can’t do the things you want to do. Really take a look at how you approach situations and see if you notice how often you cater to your fears and retreat, or believe the worst-case scenario, rather than squelch your fears and trust yourself and the situation. Look at your small fear thoughts as if they are sparks about to ignite something much larger. Put out the sparks. CANCER (June 22 - July 23) You will need to mind your own energy this week. What that means is that you need to allow others to make their own choices and decisions, even if you think they are doing the stupidest thing they could possibly do. It often seems easy from the outside to know what others are doing “wrong,” but we can never truly know someone else’s karma. Mind your own energy. LEO (July 23 - Aug. 23) I know, sometimes it seems that saying ‘why bother?’ and throwing up your hands may be the best choice. However that is NOT your best choice right now. Your mind may not be seeing things as clearly as you would like and you may have some misinformation in play. Giving up now, thinking that all is lost, and indulging your doubts and fears is really not the best choice. VIRGO (Aug. 23 - Sept. 23) Here’s the deal with this week. Things will most likely not turn out the way you want, although they may end up being exactly what you need. How much fun or joy you find in this week will be determined by how well you

allow things to be what they are rather than insisting they should be different. LIBRA (Sept. 23 - Oct. 23) It’s all about feeling safe enough to be who you really are, at least for this week, anyway. Take a look around you and see how you have created this safe world, safer than before, and know that it may be time to allow parts of yourself to have free expression, because it is safe now. SCORPIO (Oct. 23 - Nov. 22) Come on, now, you remember who you are, right? Don’t forget all you have gone through to get to this place in your life and don’t forget that you can trust yourself to deal with whatever may come up and not only deal with it, but come out of it better than before. Remember who you are and all that has led you to this place and trust yourself – truly! SAGITTARIUS (Nov. 22 - Dec. 21) This is not a week to believe anyone else’s opinions or perspectives over your hunches and direct experience. You are bigger than most people are aware and you need to start showing them. Allow yourself to be fully selfexpressed and don’t feel that you have to tone yourself down so that you don’t upset someone else. CAPRICORN (Dec. 21 - Jan. 20) You may not be able to see how things will unfold in the future, yet you can trust that things will work out. Having faith is the great challenge this week and you will need to in some cases ignore what seems to be and trust the people around you and the Universe, regardless. AQUARIUS (Jan. 20 - Feb. 19) Magic is in the air this week. Serendipity is the norm rather than the exception and all you need do is pay attention. Say all you need to say to those around you, especially if you have been holding anything back in the previous days or weeks. You have some extra special communication skills at your disposal, so keep on talking and watch as the magic unfolds! PISCES (Feb. 19 - Mar. 20) This week you will be able to quickly see that your feelings are directly connected to your thoughts and how you choose to think about a thing or even simply what you choose to think about. Pay attention to what your mind is doing and don’t allow it to run amok! Thoughts and feelings

Today’s Birthday: Doc Holliday, 1851 He wasn’t exactly the typical neighborhood dentist. John Henry Holliday was reared in Georgia and lost his mother to tuberculosis when he was only 15. He devoted himself to his studies and at the age of 19 enrolled in dental school and graduated from what is now the University of Pennsylvania School of Dentistry. He opened a practice in Atlanta but learned shortly after that he, too, had the dreaded TB. “Doc” moved to Texas, believing the drier air would help his health. He opened a dentistry practice in Dallas and took to playing cards there. He soon learned he could make more money gambling in the saloons than he could pulling teeth. After a stint in Deadwood Holliday returned to Texas and met Wyatt Earp, the assistant city marshal in Fort Griffin. Earp enjoyed a good game of cards as well and the two forged a friendship that would last a lifetime. Earp moved to Tombstone with his brothers around 1880 and Holliday followed. It was there the infamous Gunfight at OK Corral occurred in December 1881. Later, after two of Earp’s brothers were ambushed, it is said Holliday and Earp set out to exact revenge. Over the next couple years Frank Stillwell, Ike Clanton, “Indian Charlie” Cruz, and Johnny Ringo were all found dead in different locales. Holliday was eventually arrested in Colorado for Ringo’s death but was released on bail with the help of Bat Masterson, a friend of the Earps. Doc sought the recuperative power of the Hot Springs in Glenwood but the fumes made his condition even worse. He died in a nearby hotel, famously with his boots off, which he vowed not to do. “Doc was a dentist whom necessity had made a gambler; a gentleman a philosopher with a caustic wit and the nerviest, speediest, deadliest man with a six-gun that I ever knew,” Earp wrote in a eulogy for his friend. Holliday, asked if his conscience ever troubled him replied, “I coughed that up with my lungs, years ago.” From the Can’t Make This Stuff Up Department: Holliday’s longtime companion was known only as “Big Nose Kate.” are connected; so if you want to change how you are feeling, start to think about your life or a situation differently. Guess what? He died, just like the rest of us. Ashton Kutcher, in the title role, isn’t convincing – Ok, he’s an embarrassment. Josh Gad is a caricature of Steve Wozniak, Job’s partner. New On DVD

On The Road Speaking of bombs, this movie, based on the Kerouac novel, was in and out of theaters in five minutes. The reason is simple: the novel was all over the place, and so is the movie. It’s a bunch of pretentious arses talking about existentialist crap

they know nothing about. Just say no, daddy-o.

Now Playing We’re The Millers (R) Wait a minute – could this be a “comedy” starring Jennifer Aniston that doesn’t suck? Yes, it is. Credit Jason Sudeikis, who is irresistibly funny as a small-time pot dealer. When things go horribly awry, he agrees to smuggle drugs – and invents an “instant family” as a cover. That’s where our Jen, a stripper who lives next door, comes in, and yes, she is terrific in the role. It’s the comedy hit of the summer – who knew? Lovelace (R) First of all, how could it be rated R? Deep Throat was a phenomenon when it hit theaters in 1972, a porn movie that was scripted, well made, and of course, extremely graphic. This is the story of its star, ably played by Amanda Seyfried. Peter Sarsgaard is excellent as “the director” who discovered her, and Chris Noth and Sharon Stone both are effective in supporting roles. Linda Susan Boreman Marchiano, the aforementioned porn star, ended up living in Center Moriches and raised a family there. BTW, she died in 2002 and was a crusader against pornography for much of her life. This is, surprisingly, a good film. Yes, it’s a bit over the top, but it’s worth a look. 2 Guns (R) Mark Wahlberg and Denzel Washington pack the aforementioned heat and do the buddy thing. You’ve seen it all before, but it’s undeniably entertaining. The Spectacular Now (R)* Critics and test audiences are falling in love with this obscure effort by director Michael H. Weber. The tale about two high school sweethearts is engaging, funny, and poignant. Shailene Woodley (“The Secret Life of the American Teenager”) steals the show as “the good girl.” Miles Teller holds his own, playing against type as the good looking, popular senior boy. A great supporting cast led by Kyle Chandler (“Friday Night Lights”) and Jennifer Jason Leigh adds depth without stepping on the toes of the youngsters. Red 2 (PG-13) The gang from Retired Extremely Dangerous is back for another go after the first film went viral worldwide. Bruce Willis, as Frank Moses, is, well, Bruce Willis. But John Malkovich damn near steals the show again – except of course, for the presence of Helen Mirren and Mary-Louise Parker. Oh yeah, Anthony Hopkins is in it, too. It’s more of the snappy banter and action, but of course, it seems a bit more contrived this time around. It’s still the fun movie of the summer.

Stirring the Pot Guild Hall presents Stirring the Pot: Conversations with Culinary Celebrities with Thomas Keller on Sunday at 11 AM. The event is hosted and interviewed by Florence Fabricant. Chef/Owner of The French Laundry, Per Se, Bouchon, Bouchon Bakery, Bar Bouchon and Ad Hoc. Book signing to follow. Visit www.guildhall.org. Restaurant Week The bi-annual and award-winning Long Island Restaurant Week kicks off its Fall 2013 campaign on Sunday, November 3 for eight days ending on Sunday, November 11. Participating restaurants will offer a three-course prix fixe for $27.95 all night, every night they are open except Saturday when the menu will only be offered until 7 PM. Restaurants – spanning Long Island’s 118 miles – are signing up daily to participate. Each will serve its own unique $27.95 menu with a

minimum choice of three appetizers, three entrées and three desserts. A full participant list will be available at www.longislandrestaurantweek. com. Long Island Restaurant Week is a win-win for participants and consumers. Much of the island’s population is provided the opportunity to save money while dining and sample restaurants they might not otherwise try. For restaurateurs, this media-able, valuepricing event delivers a surge in business, a return on investment and community goodwill with the chance to win over new and returning patrons with a positive dining experience. “It is expected that the campaign this fall will garner more than 250 participants,” said Steve Haweeli, President of Long Island Restaurant & Marketing Hospitality Group – the new business-toconsumer promotions division of WordHampton Public Relations. “With more than 2.8 million residents and 1,000 restaurants with varied cuisines, concepts and price points, it is no wonder why we started the highly anticipated

Long Island Restaurant Week which continues to flourish.” Last year’s fall 2012 campaign boasted 248 restaurant participants, 134 of which extended the promotion through Sunday, November 18 as a result of Hurricane Sandy. Long Island Restaurant Week was designed to garner positive publicity and additional business during a traditionally sluggish period. Due to

popular customer and restaurateur demand, the spring edition of this popular island-wide autumn promotion was launched in 2011 with a 168 participant roster. Long Island Restaurant Week also believes in the importance of helping neighbors facing hunger and will make a donation following the campaign to select Long Island based charities.

Watermelon Gazpacho Ingredients (serves 6) 1/2 large seedless watermelon 1 English cucumber (finely diced) 2 limes (juiced) 1/2 papaya (fine diced) 1/2 honeydew melon (finely diced) 2 tbsp honey 4 plum tomatoes (finely diced) 1/4 c mango juice Method Begin by cutting away the rind from the watermelon. Cut the watermelon into manageable pieces and blend on high until you reach a nice, smooth consistency. Allow the watermelon liquid to sit for three minutes or so and skim off the white foam that rises to the top. Once you have done this you can whisk in the lime juice, mango juice, and honey. All that is left is to make the fine knife cuts on all of the fruits and vegetables and mix them into the base. Pour and enjoy a nice refreshing gazpacho perfect for a summer day.
